Sergio… Why did he get a free ticket to pass up Toney Douglas on the depth chart when he got to New York?
In recent interviews, Mike D’Antoni has mentioned that Toney Douglas has so-to-speak, “paid his dues and earned his spot as a starting point guard” beating out others who have failed in that position for the Knicks this season.
Sergio Rodriguez came over to the Knicks at the trade deadline and was quickly inserted into the starting lineup.
What gives?
I think D’Antoni must have felt like he already knew Toney Douglas and perhaps he had an idea that Douglas was going to play in the final 15 or so games of the season, but wanted to see what Sergio could offer first. Douglas seems pretty hungry so I doubt D’Antoni leapfrogged Sergio ahead of Douglas for motivational reasons.
In any case, I’m fairly certain that although Sergio could be ahead of Duhon on the point guard depth chart, Toney Douglas is an upgrade to both at this point.

I feel that Mike felt that the way Sergio plays and the fact that SR is from europe, that he would fit well in the SSOL and drive and kick that mike employs…however he plays very poor D. He is also plays mostly at one speed … fast
how else was Dantoni supposed to know what he had in the new guard? He comes to the team and he plays right away. If he’s awesome, he stays on the court. If he’s not, he fits into the bench wherever he fits in. game performance best reflects how good someone is.
i’ve missed the past few games. can i get an assessment on bill walker? does he have game?
