Eddy Curry to play tonight in San Antonio

by knicksdefense on March 10, 2010

Gametime 8:30pm eastern time.

I’ve heard a lot of negativity surrounding the Knicks and their opportunity to improve their roster this summer.

In particular, a co-worker had mentioned to me today Joe Johnson’s quote about not wanting to go to another loser such as the team he did a sign and trade to join in Atlanta four years ago.

My response is twofold:

1. Anyone that thinks the current Knicks roster will resemble the roster the Knicks will come into the 2010-2011 season with is probably unfamiliar with the situation. The simple fact remains that we got under the cap to fundamentally change the roster from what we have right now. Assume anyone not named Chandler or Gallinari will not be a Knick next year, barring a miracle.

2. Joe Johnson is not even plan B. Joe Johnson is plan C or D, due to the simple fact that he will be a 10 year veteran by the time he has a new contract, wherever he signs. I figure if we are seeking out cornerstones to rebuild a franchise from scratch, you go for the young ones rather than players pushing 30. So Joe, you stay in Atlanta and get Crawford his first whiff at playoff basketball in 12 years of his professional career. Hope you like getting knocked out the box in the first round every year, because that’s what’s in store for you should you resign with the Hawks this summer.

So tell me again why we got rid of Zach Randolph and Crawford? So we can gawk over Lebron James who isn’t coming here? Note to the Knicks: team can pay their own free agents 2% more per year and give them one more year then the Knicks can give them. So why would anyone come here when they can get better deals from their current teams? Donnie Walsh killed the Knicks as GM of the Pacers. Is he and now is trying to do the same as GM of the Knicks?

It’s a gamble no matter how one looks at it.

I agree that players on the other side of 30 shouldn’t be pursued.

So the Knicks selling points are CAP SPACE and playing in the Garden?

Just remember that the NBA salary cap has limits that preclude more than two max free agents or a max and two players beyond the MLE.

I’m still not very much convinced that cap space and New York will make up for a team that will have cob webs as a result of the shuffle to clear cap space.

It’s a matter of opinoin and not of a personal vendetta.

Nobody cut out jack squat, have no idea what you’re talking about. I’m not scarred if you want to leave, please do so in a timely manner and spare me the name-calling middle school crap.
