Because of the collective bargaining agreement, teams can pay their own players 2% more per year and give the an additional year of contact. So why would Lebron james come here to play for less with a far inferior team? The answer is he won’t. But other players like Bosh and Joe Johnson might come here.

And if the elect to take Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony next summer why didn’t they just keep Crawford and Zach Randolph who are going to be free agents at the end of next year?

when you have people tricked to the point that they think they can win with either Zach Randolph or Jamal Crawford, you make the deal.

Those guys, I watched them all their careers while the were Knicks. I do not miss them or their style of play. Lee puts up the exact numbers that Randolph can put up. They’re redundant.

So it wouldn’t be great to have lee and randolph to getting 20 point and 10 rebounds each per game? We had two all stars and we gave up one of them for the prospect of maybe getting one this year. That as we know because of the collective bargaining agreement might not work out. Because for Lebron to come here, he’s have to take a pay cut of 2% per year and 1 less year contact then Cleveland can give him.

So its “redundant” to have two people who can put up 20 points and 10 rebounds per game? I would say that 40 points and 20 rebounds would help us greatly. But we would need a coach to get them to share the spot light and ball. I find it funny that you say having two people who can score 20 points and get 10 rebounds a game is “redundant”. I’m sure many teams, including the Knicks now, wish they had that problem. And now Donnie is setting it up through interviews that the Knicks might not sign anyone this year. The way I see it is if the Knicks don’t improve themselves this summer and next, Donnie should get his walking papers.

This poll is crazy! Obviously, I’d rather have Lebron and Wade this year. That’s instant championship. But that’s also about 0% likely.

the point about the CBA and the limitations on max contracts for UFAs is a valid one.

I think you should add Joe Johnson / Chris Bosh this year to the poll to spice it up. Sure, Durant and Carmelo are both better, but they play the same position and a lot can happen in a year.

Final thoughts: to hell with Randolph. He’s a big baby. You have to play defense to be a winner. Crawford is a great 6th man, but the Knicks have bigger problems than extending the bench.

Joe Johnson / Chris Bosh are the only players we might get. Lebron isn’t coming here. Why would he? To play for a team that’s far inferior to his Cavs and to make 2% less per year and one less of a year? If I were Cleveland I would make a play for Wade. Now Wade and Lebron, that’s a team. Or maybe Chicago will sign both Wade and Lebron. But Lebron isn’t coming here. He wants to play for a contender.

Ha! Lee and Randolph? not bad on O but those would not stop anybody from scoring and they would not intimidate either. Crawful on D. Nuff said.

I for one am looking forward not back. The Knicks would have been foolish not to try for this summer.

The only people who knows what Lebron will do is Lebron and whomever amongst family, friends and confidants he might have told. That is most likely a very very very short list.

So what he’s gonna do is up to him not based on what “we” would do if we were Lebron… not based on what some talking head thinks.. and not based on some out of the game ex-players turn talking head thinks…
We will when we see… and if he does not as long as Donnie’s been in this game he’s got a plan B.

I thought Donnie Walsh only had “the plan!”

Now that the plan may fail,… he has a plan B. He never said that before.

You give that old fart way too much credit. The Plan was to be competitive and sign people in the Summer of 2010. Part B of that equation required that the Knicks coaching staff have their players show a pulse. Coach failed, GM has tunnel vision,.. and Waldotoni is about to strike out in T Ball!

9 saipanknickster March 8, 2010 at 4:08 pm

Whoa! by plan B I meant if Lebron does not come… not all of the availible free agents.

NYC True, the plan was to get under the cap first, not get competitive and then sign people as you state.

Irrespective of who is or is not signed this summer, the question is valid as hypothetical. In the one had you can have two a-list guys this year, in the other hand, two different a-list guys 365 days from July 1st 2010.

Pretend Isiah Thomas is still here if it helps you curb your blind hatred of old people not named Isiah.

By the way, however much you hate the Knicks (Waldontoni as you so eloquently put it), I hate Isiah Lord Thomas more. I hope he never works in the NBA ever again.

KD enjoy the game…I have a friend that has season tickets, who will likely re-up for next year. I will probably by a few tickets from them.

article about joe johnson, more interesting are the comments by the atlanta fans on the possibility of joe johnson going to another team this summer:
