David Lee is officially a 2010 NBA All-Star

by knicksdefense on February 11, 2010

David Lee has earned the right to be there this year.

Although he could have boxed out better against the Kings the other night, Lee has improved his game and worked hard to maximize his potential.

Good for you David Lee, represent the Knicks with pride this weekend!

The Knicks are now sending three guys to the All-Star Weekend:

David Lee (All-Star Game)

Nate Robinson (dunk contest defending champion)

Danilo Gallinari (rookie-sophomore game, 3-point shootout contestant)

Acquiring McGrady would be no-brainer for Knicks »
By Frank Isola

Tracy McGrady has barely played basketball the last two seasons and if he walked into the Knicks locker room today he’d probably be their best player.

That’s why acquiring McGrady is a no-brainer for the desperate, fading fast Knicks, especially if the club has no intentions of re-signing Al Harrington. (Sometimes tells me Donnie Walsh would consider bringing Harrington back while Mike D’Antoni would prefer water board torture over Harrington.)

Of course, pulling off a three-team trade with Houston and Washington is complicated by the fact that the Knicks, who would reportedly send Harrington to the Wizards, have to throw in another high salaried player and right now there isn’t much of a market for Jared Jeffries and Eddy Curry. Adding Larry Hughes into the mix could potentially work and it would certainly work for Mike D’Antoni.

The Knicks head coach wants a playmaker. He’s had it with Chris Duhon and Nate Robinson. You also get the feeling that more than anything D’Antoni has a group of players that he views as outcasts and it is those guys that he wants to move them out of the locker room sooner than later. This is not a news flash but D’Antoni has no use for Curry, Hughes and Harrington, the latter of whom is aware that the coach wants to trade him.

D’Antoni has alienated those three players as well as Robinson. Imagine the drama in the locker room over the final 31 games if a deal isn’t made.

D’Antoni believes that Harrington is hurting the development of Danilo Gallinari and also feels that Harrington is too shot happy. That may or may not be true.

Harrington is said to be upset that the coach won’t allow him to operate in the low blocks and instead wants him out on the perimeter shooting 3′s. In fairness to Harrington, he may be the Knicks best low post scorer, especially since D’Antoni won’t play Curry.

Hughes is upset that D’Antoni buried him on the bench for all but two games in January. Robinson sat for 14 games in December and Curry feels the coach never gave him a chance.

The unrest in the locker room is palpable. Add to that James Dolan meeting with Donnie Walsh moments after Tuesday’s loss to Sacramento and what you have is a team on the brink of imploding.

One of three things usually happens when Dolan is angry. He fires the coach, fires the GM or fires a player. Walsh isn’t going anywhere and D’Antoni, whose reputation as an offensive savant is taking a huge hit, appears to be fine despite his 51-81 record as coach. (Dolan fired Lenny Wilkens with a 40-41 record on a team with considerably less talent than this year’s Knicks.)

If the GM and coach stay that means the players change. Something is going to happen between now and next Thursday’s trade deadline.

Needless to say, Harrington, Hughes, Curry, Robinson and Darko Milicic are all on the clock.
