garden is now separate from cablevision, for bean-counting purposes

This just in, Cablevision has split off MSG, and the two are considered separate entities despite the same family controlling both.

The New York Times is going with this headline tomorrow, it is worth a read.

James Dolan’s legacy in New York is great. As in, great depression. Severe, prolonged, miserable depression. 1997 was when he took control of the franchise. Shortly after, Ernie Grunfeld brought us up to the finals in 1999, and from there he somehow got unjustly fired. Layden was a four year disaster, followed by another four year even more distasteful disaster named Thomas, and now we’ve got Donnie Walsh in to try to rehabilitate what still is the most important franchise in professional basketball.

Tom Brokaw said screw it and publicly renounced his season tickets in disgust with the Dolans. I don’t blame him.  The lakers, celtics and bulls, the teams we’ve been compared to for decades, have all rebuilt their teams to greater heights than we have been able to acccomplish here in New York. The Dolans don’t get it, but they don’t need to, because they hold the chips, that prevent our team from winning any chips.

Maybe someone will try to buy-out James Dolan and his loser kharma.  I just hope it isn’t someone from Dubai or China if it ever does go down.  Then again, how could they do any worse?

  • According to Mark Stein, the Knicks are about to offer Sessions a long-term contract.

You know what that means, by Monday, Walsh will have signed Tinsley to a 1-year.

yeah we don’t need to go down that street again!!!

It would be nice to see something good this freeagency period for the Orange n Blue

If the Knicks could get Sessions, they should. It’s the smart move for building continuity and a core group of young talent. But, come on. Iverson would awesome. One of the great players of this era with something to prove on a team that hasn’t had a go-to scorer in the 4th quarter since the Clinton administration? This would be sick. Seven seconds or less with Iverson? Holy Moses. No, he’s not the player he once was, but he still has an explosive first step. He’d instantly be the best ball handler, the best dribble penetrator, and the best perimeter defender on the team [with the possible exception of toney douglas, but who knows really]. Sure, they’d lose some games because Iverson shot 7-27, but the Knicks, in spite of my undying love, suck balls right now. They would win more because of him than they’d lose. And we all know they need a little electricity in the garden. It’s starting to get pretty quiet in there.

Duhon would be a great change of pace back up to come in and get the rest of the guys involved. Nilo and Hill could float under the radar a little bit and get their legs. Chandler could thrive.

Iverson would bring swagger. He would bring toughness. At the very least, he would force other teams to have a game plan against the Knicks instead of Just Execute and We’ll Win Because All of Our Guys Are Better Than All of Their Guys. I’m not saying The Answer would be a better move than the young Ramon Sessions, but don’t sleep on Iverson. The guy’s still got more game than most and he’s an underdog again.

  • Good points Starks4ThreeYes, AI in 7 secs would be something else. just seems weird to get both iverson and hughes 10 years after they played together.

Maybe we could get both ai and sessions?

I have a feeling, if we get sessions, that it would be a sign and trade involving our duhon. so we’d still need a backup pg.

do both sessions and iverson want the full mle? probably.

What happen to all the rumors involving White Chocolate aka Jason Williams? I don’t know what Walsh is thinking with all these names and still no action. guess he’s waiting for an even better player to fall into his lap before november? the team isn’t right the way it is currently constructed.

The one thing about attaining Iverson is this: everything walsh is doing is with 2010 in mind, and how would it effect certain free agent all stars’ decision to sign with the knicks if they knew iverson has the ball coming up the court?

it may be a turn-on or a turn-off, depending on the player, but probably a turn-off for players that have carmelo on 1-touch speed dial on their cell phones.

  • *make no mistake, if we get ai and no one else this summer we would improve.

  • saipanknickster

good…points but what about practice and the example he would set for the young ones..and lastly is he gonna clash with coach?

  • saipanknickster

i dont always agree with Babs but this time I do.
AI would also cause matchup problems as well
There is scenario in which I can see him possibility , that is if the Knicks got a nod and wink from desireables in the 2010 class. but then again that would be illegal right?

The Hoopsworld story was a great read and I think the Knicks are wiiling to take that gamble, but the recent history of the Knicks front office has DW proceeding with caution. So perhaps by next week we will know something…I guess if Sessions and Jwill hitch there wagons here then Na8 maybe done….on another note the Lee Utah, S&T talks have been awfully quiet.
