8-11 and upcoming games are on the road, Can Mike D pull the team together?

I have a friend who will be at the Knicks-Nets game on the 10th.

Mobley’s heart problem really makes it difficult to makeup for the points we lost with crawford.

Interior D was bad before and after the trades, I doubt another trade is coming any time soon to address the issue unless anyone wants the expiring contract of Malik Rose. But taking on more cap space doesn’t seem like the direction Walsh is going in these days. Look for the interior D to continue to suck.

  • Coach K was right.

When the Knicks acquired Duhon this summer, Coach K, one of the best basketball coaches on planet earth, and a believe in Mike D’Antoni’s offensive system, said Duhon would flourish under D’Antoni’s system and could lead the league in assists.

right now he’s tied for fourth in the league with steve nash, just .1 assists behind Jason Kidd who is third in the league in assists.

  • With all that time on the bench, I wonder if Gallinari has put on any requisite weight he needs to avoid injury playing basketball in the big bad NBA.

I wonder how good/bad the Knicks would be if this Gallinari had been playing this whole time. He’s our lottery pick. I’m glad we didn’t get bayless or Augustin, and wish that Mayo had still been their as well as Westbrook, but still, the Knicks could have gone another direction. Even if all Gallinari can do is shoot, at 6′11″ he adds value to the Knicks because in D’Antoni’s system if you can shoot, you can be worked into the system (see Q, Roberson, TT).

  • Duhon is a good acquisition but the dude shouldn’t be run roughshod like is happening now, even if he “never gets tired.”

If he’s been a career reserve b/c the prior coaches handling him didn’t have an approach to properly utilize him could is conditioning to soldier with starters minutes put him up against a version of the rookie wall. If not could the starter minutes coupled with the extended minutes from not having a backup to spell him compound the possibility of Duhon hitting a wall later in the season.

Knicks played well today, Detroit is a shell of itself but still formidable the Knicks seemed to lose direction in the third and through the first half of the 4th quarter. I wonder if that is a result of Duhon not getting some rest. Knicks should pick up a back up point- shouldn’t have chucked Mardy so quickly, Roberson isn’t doing much.

The draft pick of Gallinari whether for good or ill is spilt milk what’s done is done if he fails or thrives. That said a Brooks Lopez, Russel Westbrook or Mayo would’ve been dandy.

Next up for the Knicks is Chicago Bulls, that is a winnable game in my opinion and Duhon should have a score to settlen. Juicy Juicy!

    good point O&B.

i wouldn’t be so quick to jump on Walsh for giving up Mardy over Roberson – that implies Walsh had any choice.

i think Mardy is more intriguing to other GM’s at this stage of their careers because of his defense, and i think Walsh probably wasn’t willing to scuttle the deal over Mardy Collins (either would i).

Funny how a pure two out of California is floated as a backup plan for Allan not suiting up in a Cat retirement scenario. i also think this team needs a backup point instead.

Shoot, since we’re running the offense only D’Antoni system, let’s send out a feeler to White Chocolate Jason Williams. He retired this summer, but i think he could be a Steve Nash lite off the bench in a limited role. Depends on where his mindset is, of course.

  • PaulNoize

Plus, if Williams came to the Knicks not only would we be raiding Riley’s kitchen rather than vice-versa, but also there’d be the added bonus of Peaceman going absolutely apeshit over another white boy who plays no “d” strappin on the orange & blue! =)

Shoot, we may as well “retire” Jerome James and bring back Keith Van Horn’s still-active contract (and body) to the mix until Danilo is ready to return, LOL! High socks all around!

  • PaulNoize

Great win for the Knicks, congrats. i am saddened to see AI look kind of discombobulated amidst a classy, veteran contending team. i guess the East is just a two-team race.

Chicago’s bigs have been called out lately and i think they see the Knicks as a way to pad some stats, get some solid double doubles. i see a very tough matchup, i think with a superb Duhon effort we can prevail. But can he keep it up???

  • saipanknickster

I was not really happy the knicks lost the lead, however I think this game will give some confidence as these guys need to learn how to win as a group…. they have had success iin other situations(be it college, HS, AAU or on another pro roster)But as a unit they need a strong confidence in each other.. today will help…although his O is a work in progress I like what Jeffries bring s to the table as deployed by D’Antoni…. Fella I agree a back-up would help a ton and give duhon a blow..plus it seems like against certain teams coach would like using a 3 guard set.

  • PaulNoize

Hey Saipan, what do you think about the “bring back Fred Jones” idea?

    - Paul

  • JohnQ

    Hey Paul,

Where is Jones playing right now ? I totally forgot about him w/ everything else going on. He might be a viable option.

  • PaulNoize

i think Freddie is just chilling waiting for a call.

Does his familiarity with the roster make him a better fit than a pure point guard like say ex-Magic point guard Carlos Arroyo?

i don’t think Arroyo is employed at the moment, he has a bit of a rep for not being liked in the clubhouse, so IDK if he fits into what D’Antoni is doing – but i think his skill set is closer to what we need in Mike’s rotation at the moment.

  • JohnQ

I’d really like to procure Jones as a SG and keep Q at the 2 as well. That would give us Duhon, Nate, Q, and Jones (He could actually play either guard position). Arroyo is only good at point.

  • saipanknickster

Paul N at least Fred Jones would play with energy…. but we need a ballhandler…his trade mate Dickau might fit better

  • JohnQ

Freddy Jones can handle the ball Saipian. He did it for us in stretches last year.

  • saipanknickster

Ok Q i must have overlooked that… I know he plays hard… not a fan of Arroyo… but he may be popular here in the tri-state

  • Whaddup Saipan, Paul Noize, & John Q

Good to see the blog bumping.

I’m down with the Fred Jones redux idea floated around. He is in a lot of ways more of a tweener but from what I got to see from him last year he showed the ability to hit the 3, solid defense, and good athleticism. All of those are traits that curry favor in the [ ]‘antoni offense. Plus he doesn’t bring the negative history or baggage associate with the now exiled former Knicks’ Point from Coney Island.

Like I said the Knicks should be able to handle the Rebuildabulls. Their not a bigger team inside than the Knicks, [ ]‘atnoni should have the advantage in the coaching aspect against rookie coach, Vinnie Del Negro. The bulls might be able to exploit our lack of back court depth especially if the young legs of Rose are directed against the overtaxed legs of Duhon. But with Duhon having something to show, the game will be extra juicy. Also Thomas was another players slighted by the Bulls who has found redemption with [ ]‘antoni.

    Lets Go Knicks

  • saipanknickster

Yea O&B you are right and perhaps jeffries will have more in the tank…ilike what he brings with the team as constituted

  • JohnQ

Even if Jeffries is not as good as Mikey thinks he is, at least it gives the other forwards a rest. Now if we could get someone to spell the 48 minute man, we’d be alright.

  • what’s up guys?

anybody out there watching the davidson game versus west virginia, the jim valvano classic at msg?

wonder how curry would fit in mike d’antoni’s system? right now, curry and that ricky rubio are the two players i’d like to see the knicks go after in the draft…

of course if we stay close to .500 we have no shot at either.

  • Draftexpress DX has a nice scouting report on Stephen Curry, I like what I read about him.

Duhon playing as well as he is, ad [ ]‘antoni pump up his stats in that system might seek to hold the Knicks for ransom when he becomes a free agent. That said a point might be needed more to replace Duhon, should he not resign.

A center is also needed to close down teh EZpass to the Knicks interior.
