New York Knicks, Knicks, NBA

Now’s the time

June 26, 2008 – 11:48 am

Remember this rude awakening back in October? We drove up to Boston to see the Knicks get trampled 101-61 in Allan Houston’s single game comeback in a Knicks uni. It was also KG’s first home game in a Celtics jersey. It was also the first indication that the Zach Randolph-Eddy Curry experiment would fail. Turns out those were the champs who beat us by that much. That’s how far away this current team is from competing for a championship–in other words: years.

But Donnie Walsh and Mike D’Antoni knew this when they signed on to bring the Knicks back from the dead. Mike D’Antoni is considered by many in the NBA to be a very competitive, very positive-minded person. Donnie Walsh brings experience and a track record as president that MSG simply has not had in the 21st century.

It all starts tonight.

Now is the time.

Charlotte wants to make the playoffs this year, Jersey wants to get back into the playoffs, and obviously Walsh and D’Antoni would prefer to be there too when April ‘09 comes around.

Sure, the long-term plan is LeBron James in 2010, but these guys want to win just as bad right now, and what takes place today will be the first step towards something.

What will that something be? Your guess is as good as mine. Walsh hasn’t given away anything in the weeks leading up to draft day. Fortunately for Knicks fans, the wait is almost over.

The New York Knicks are on the clock.

  2. I haven’t been this excited about the knicks for a long time. I’m putting my faith in donnie and mike all the way. go knicks!!!!!!!

  3. It’s just wait and see at this juncture. Your guesse is as good as mine and that of any blogger.

  4. just for the record, here are my three guesses:

    1. Gallinari
    2. Russell Westbrook
    3. Joe Alexander

(assuming there is no trade up or down and the Knicks keep their pick at #6)

(ranked in order of availability–ie, if Gallinari isn’t there, they’ll take Westbrook)

(any of which would obviously be booed by the garden)

By knicksdefense on Jun 26, 2008 at 1:28 pm

  5. Here is my list

    1. Westbrook
    2. Alexander
    3. Gordon
    4. Bayless
    5. Gallinari

What do you think of CDR from Memphis?

By Orange and Blue on Jun 26, 2008 at 1:37 pm

  6. five is too easy. let’s have it like three-strikes your out style. actually we should just do one pick and one sleeper pick. Your top three is solid, depends on who is already taken 1-5. something tells me westbrook might go to seattle before the Knicks can nab him.

all of this hinges on draft day trades…

i hear #2 and Marion for #7 and Elton Brand MIGHT happen, wonder if the Knicks are interested in either side of that trade.

  7. Good PM Defenders!

Today is Draft Day and FORCE MD’S will gather to bear witness to this regime’s first legitimate player moves. If my gut is rihgt, we will trade DLEE to Memphis for the 5th Pick and keep our 6th Pick, and Draft RWestbrook or OMAYOif available for defensive purposes in the backcourt and athleticism, then select either Galinari, Alexander, or Lopez with the 6th Pick…

IMHO, that would be a great new start for our beloved Franchise and I think we could make some improvement, and possibly fight for a playoff birth.

    One Love!

    Keep it POPPIN!

  8. Top Three (strikes)

    1. Westbrook
    2. Alexander
    3. Galinari

    One and a Sleeper.

    Gallinari and Alexander.

Don’t ask me how I came up with it.

    One love Cooley.

    Blog on bruh!

  9. I think

    1.Westbrook

    2.Gallinari

    3.Anthony Randolph

This from Chad Ford(ESPN) about the Lee trade:

“The other team that seems to be hot for the Grizzlies’ pick is the Knicks. Earlier in the week, they discussed a deal that would send David Lee and Malik Rose to the Grizzlies in return for the No. 5 pick and Brian Cardinal. However, Lee’s agent might have scuttled that deal for the Knicks when he told Memphis that Lee, who will become a restricted free agent next summer, has no interest in signing a long-term deal in Memphis. The Knicks were trying to pick up multiple lottery picks to jump-start the rebuilding process.”

Good work with the eye DLT!

  14. Now ESPN News is saying the Seattle/LAC swap is conditional.

    By D L T Knicks on Jun 26, 2008 at 3:59 pm

  15. Two big deals have just gone down in the past few minutes that could change the face of the draft.
The Clippers and Sonics have agreed to swap picks as long as the Wolves take O.J. Mayo at No. 3. If Mayo isn’t drafted at 3, the deal is off according to two sources close to the information.
With the No. 4 pick, expect the Clippers to take Eric Gordon of Indiana. They’ve coveted him as the type of dominant scorer they’ve been looking for.

The Sonics will take Brook Lopez or Jerryd Bayless at No. 7. However it seems Lopez will be the guy.

  16. My three strikes (or wishlist) is as follows:

    1. Westbrook
    2. Bayliss
    3. Alexander

It just burns me up to see other teams wheelin’ and dealin’, knowing the reason we’re not being dealt in is because we don’t have anything anyone wants.

    Thanks Zeke.

  17. Bronxboy

It does suck that Zeke did such a terrible coaching job.

But no wheeling or dealing for the Knicks might be a good thing at this time since it seems teams will try to hose us.

Donny needs to keep to his guns and not fire sale just for the sake of fire saleing.

It will now be up to Antoni (No D) to coach up these players and try to increase their trade value.

There will be alot of player playing time juggling going on as the team ready’s to make its boys look more appealing.

    What a dilema!

By Orange and Blue on Jun 26, 2008 at 5:26 pm

  18. O&B

Totally on point with that U R.NO MORE FIRE SALES!!!
EC should be wanted by most teams, same goes for Zach,Steph,Q and Jamal.
Would like to come out of tonight with at least a new PG(Westbrook).
He is not a true point but,he can learn,he can defend and he is explosive.

  20. If not for bad luck, we’d have none at all….

If the TWolves select Love instead of Mayo, I’d feel hopeful.

Now there’s no telling how this thing is gonna shake out.

Fuck, the Sonics selected my man Westbrook…..things are just getting worse.

  21. I’m depressed…..

By Bronxboy in Md on Jun 26, 2008 at 7:59 pm

  22. We selected the Galinari, and let it be known I’m not crazy about the pick.

This had better work out, or heads should roll.

By Bronxboy in Md on Jun 26, 2008 at 8:09 pm

  23. I agree Bronxboy.

    I wanted Westbrook.

But now we got the Italian Scallion!

By Orange and Blue on Jun 26, 2008 at 8:21 pm

  24. Bronx, it’s rough. A shaky sign for Chandler’s knee. =(

Knicks outrage is melting off server faceplates all over the nation!

i feel bad for the kid, he seems nice enough but it just isn’t the right time for him to break on the scene.

By PaulNoize on Jun 26, 2008 at 8:24 pm

  25. Haha cue the LB shit talking in…..3……2……1…….

By PaulNoize on Jun 26, 2008 at 8:25 pm

  26. Man, what were they thinking????? I could see if we were a piece or two away, we draft him and give him time to develop.

I really feel in my heart Westbrook would’ve been our guy if he was available.

The pressure on this kid starts now.

By Bronxboy in Md on Jun 26, 2008 at 8:38 pm

  27. PaulNoize,

“Bronx, it’s rough. A shaky sign for Chandler’s knee. =(”

When trying to make sense out of the move, I came to the same conclusion.

I hate to beat a dead horse, but this is the residual effect of Zeke’s bad moves..

We’re trying to win games we have no biz trying to win, so he doesn’t go down in infamy..

Then he starts playing Chandler 38-plus mins a game the last 10 when he hardly played in the first 72, making him suseptable to injury, which winds up being the case.

Is Zeke still in the state of NY?????? If so, he should be forcefully removed.

By Bronxboy in Md on Jun 26, 2008 at 8:59 pm

  28. i don’t know ….. if Chandler got caught slipping and out-of-shape in his rookie season of light duty, then frankly - shame on him. i know that’s an old-school attitude that maybe isn’t so popular, but it’s how i feel. i know the inmates ran the asylum this year - a chaotic and demotivating event i am sure for any rookie. =(

Ike Diogu from Indiana traded for Jarrett Jack. Nice move by Indy, i thought there was a chance Jack could end up here in NY but i guess someone else decided to pull the trigger. Brandon Rush in Indiana where brother Kareem plays. Bird’s really stirring the pot. =)
