NBA Finals 2008, here we go…
June 5, 2008 – 8:57 pmWell, I don’t know about you, but I’ve had my fill of all the re-aired Lakers-Celtics finals of yesteryear, you knew they’d be playing those non-stop once the script became clear during the 2008 NBA playoffs.
Before they get it started tonight, though, anyone remember this quote from last week?
“Just to put things in perspective, they were worse than the Knicks last year. I mean, that’s how bad it was.”
–ESPN’s Sportscenter, on Boston’s previous season, immediately following their elimination of the Pistons in the 2008 Eastern Conference Finals on ESPN.
That was an unneeded Knicks cheap shot along the lines of Mike Dunleavy, Reggie Miller or even David Stern. I guess under Dolan and Isiah’s watch, the Knicks have become the barometer for poor performance league-wide.
In any case, regardless of who you’re rooting for tonight (we know Clyde Frazier and our Orange and Blue are NOT rooting for the Celtics), this should be a good match, the best we’ve had in many years. No matter how they got there, these were the two best teams in the league and congrats to both of them for reaching the top of the mountain both during the regular season and during the playoffs.
I only hope the refs don’t get in the way of what should be a fierce battle that could easily go the seven game distance.
Any one want to be so bold as to predict a score?
So who will be the X-factor tonight? There are so many interesting matchups here I don’t know where to begin.

You know who I pick to win the series. Celtics in 6-7
But if Garnett gets the ring I’ll applaud.
His story reminds me of Ewing’s but what’s different is that he, Garnett is still within his prime, and he has a superstar scorer, Pierce, a great star marksman, Allen, and an excellent assortment of young and veteran role players.
Just remember that the national media picked the Patriots as the favorites in the superbowl, and they lost.
This time a Boston area team is the underdog, and you know how those “Family Stone” Bostonians love to be the underdogs, and as such it will be ironic when they come away with the Chip.

I do not want Boston to win either. As Knick fan I resent how they were handed KG on a platter by McHale.
I also still hold grudges against the city b/c of how Russell was treated when it came to housing back in the day, and also I get pissed hearing Clyde’s(Boston Garden) stories about the heat being on in the locker room in the warm months and the open windows during the cold months, coldwater in the showers etc.
I know they have a good chance against the Lakers.. but hopefully Phils experience will prevail.
He has already started with the snide comments

UCLA All-American Kevin Love is no longer scheduled to work out for the Nets, who sought to bring him in next week. Today’s group includes 7-foot French center Alexis Ajinca and forward Chris Douglas-Roberts of Memphis.

JohnQ, it would be a productive summer if they got a quality defender like Artest, but as a Knicks fan, I’d rather have LeBron in 2010 than Artest right now.
The mid-level exception is the compounded trap that has plagued the Knicks for the past four years. if we did a sign and trade that would only hurt our chances of getting someone like LeBron, Bosh or D Wade.

KD,
I was one of the ones begging for an Artest to NY trade this year. If the goal is to get under the cap in 2010, he can’t be in our plans. He also plays LBJ’s position, so it just aint happenin’. I just thought I’d post it for the hell of it. There aint much to talk about in Knickland right now.

Notice how Hollinger’s article mirrors many of the topics me and Lives discussed on the topic of this year’s NBA Draft.
People read our stuff. Imitation is a form of flattery, better that than flatulence.
But…
Here’s my question.
Say the Knicks trade Z-Bo, via an exchange of draft picks. Ergo the Philly scenario.
Then if the trade goes down as was reported in earlier articles on topic, the Knicks would be much more flexible.
Now say Artest still wants to play for love?
Sign him only if he elects to opt out. But! I repeat But! Not if he wants a sign and trade.
The deal gives us another SF. But a two way player which we certainly need.
Now we use some of our overabundance of SF Jefferies, and Balkman and package them to a team that could used depth there
Lastly we draft a player that fills an immediate need, Mcghee? Lopez? ALexander?
Just a thought…

The NBA Rumor Mill is heating up and the Knicks name was mentioned in this latest tidbit by ESPN’s Andrew Marchand.
In a radio report over at ESPN 1050 there is a report of the following:
1. Kevin Love is scheduled to undergo a private workout with the New York Knicks.
2. Love, turned down a similar offer to undertake a private workout with the New Jersey Nets.
The report starts making inferences here. Namely:
3. That b/c Love has turned down a workout with the new Jersey Nets it is possible that Love recieved assurances from a team with a higher draft pick that he wouldn’t drop down as far to the Nets.
4. The Knicks may possibly be interested in Kevin Love.
This last part, according to Marchand, is based on the word of league executives…
5. The Memphis Grizzlies are very much interested in Kevin Love.
6. They believe he might turn out to be another Carlos Boozer type of player.
Marchand goes on to report:
7. That if the Memphis Grizzlies pick Love before the Knicks do, assuming the Knicks are interested in Love.
8. Certain players the Knicks covet might well be available for the Knicks to draft–e.g., Bayless or Mayo.
That’s the gyst of the report from ESPN 1050’s Andrew Marchand.
From what I gather let Memphis’s Love fest begin…
If it gets us Bayless or Mayo, that is!
