Scratch Rick Carlisle off the list

According to Peter Vescey of the New York Post, Rick Carlisle will soon be named head coach of the Dallas Mavericks. What is interesting to note is that Carlisle, according to Vescey, met with the Knicks on Wednesday prior to the handshake deal with the Mavs.

Did Walsh in so many words tell Carlisle that the Knicks already have their sites set on someone in particular?

With Larry Brown going to the Bobcats, and Carlisle on board in Dallas, the Knicks should be the next team to draw from the coaching carousel in the next couple of weeks.

KnicksD, I don’t even think Jackson is the front runner anymore. I truly feel that either Sam Mitchell or Avery Johnson will get the call. At least I hope so.

  • BX, good to see you still on here, homie.

I forgot to put Sam’s name on the voting poll, maybe because he has yet to be fired although there seems to be much turbulence up in Toronto these days. The only coach that seems to be safe these days is the one that probably isn’t a coach, L. Frank in Jersey.

but I’d be down with Sam coaching the Knicks, I think he did a good job in Toronto, and if Marbury has to stay for another year for salary cap/trade deadline reasons, I know Sam is one of the few coaches in the league that may get marbury to listen and do what is asked of him, be it coming off the bench or whatever the case may be.

I would also be down with Avery as coach because he’s fiery and the Knicks need a candle lit up under them to play d and hustle like they’re still on their rookie contracts and are not already set for life. the knicks are spoiled right now.

JohnQ i hear you about ATL over Boston. I’m rooting against the C’s, although I think KG has earned a shot at the title, those other Celtics, as good as they are, I’d like to see them get knocked out the box.

I’m big-time looking forward to the Spurs vs Hornets tonight. CP3 vs Tony Parker, doesn’t get much better than that this year. Going to be a war out there, unless San Antonio is THAT good that they know how to shut down Paul’s operations out there. Time will tell… I’m rooting for the hornets in this match up, Spurs have more rings than a bag of Funyuns.

I’m certainly rooting for the Hornets.

Avery Johnson as a head coach for the Knicks is a solid idea.

Too bad the Celtics are beating down the Hawks today. The Hawks made it exciting but the script is written and the C’s are schedule to appear untill about game 7 of the N.B.A. Finals.

The impression I get is that the next Knicks head coach may just be a care taker, whose positive qualities would work like a pair of braces to steady the team and set them up for a coach who would take the reigns should the Knicks fare well in the 2010 draft pool and in the upcoming lotteries.

What is your thought on that theory KnicksD?

  • Orange and Blue,
Based on what was said when Donnie Walsh signed on to the the Knick organization, I think you’re basically on the money as to what is expected of the incumbent head coach in New York.

There is definitely going to be a limit as to how different 2008-2009’s team is going to look from 2007-2008’s Knicks team, because some players are untradeable.

Walsh also said, however, that he wants to be competitive sooner rather than later though, so I can see why he’s taking some time to decide and not rushing into anything, be it a proven coach with an established system or a coach without any tangible experience. I like most of what I hear from the guys that may get the job.

I’m glad Dallas is off the radar, one less place that can steal away Walsh’s first choice. I know Chi-town is looking at Mark Jackson, so I think right after we know where the Knicks pick (the lottery is less than two weeks away I believe) we’ll know who is “the chosen one.”

With a high pick in June, maybe a Ron Artest pickup, plus a solid coaching match for this team, maybe we can be competitive sooner than Walsh thinks.

    Maybe… just bloggin’.

when all is said and done w/ the coaching race and more and more people become available, I’d still prefer Tom Thibidau over anyone else out there. He even looks a little like Van Gundy. lol.

  • KNICKDEFENSE/BLOGZILLA/StarburyFan, Peace be unto thee my Good Brudder….

I Co-Sign POST #2! It is good to see my Homie BX in the house tickling the keys.

And, I agree with you regarding the coaching siutation…Sam is not a bad option, but my preference would be Avery Johnson. Good young Stud Coach, has won, and I think he has something to prove and may be able to reach these kats and do something special…I’m just saying?

Back in the saddle, been on travel trying the make the ends meet…Big ups to you KNICKD you keep rolling and going…My pleasure to check in Homie…

    Peace,

    Keep it POPPIN!

  • Cooleyhigh, thanks for checking in homie and chiming in on the coaching situation. Avery I’m sure would make a solid choice for these Knicks. There are some good options out there right now. I got a feeling they’ll wait until after the lottery in 10-14 days to announce who will be coaching, maybe it will happen sooner…

Watching this war right now between orlando and detroit 80-80 in the fourth. and right after this one, another war between san antonio and new orleans. i say war because I’d be surprised if new orleans blows out san antonio two games in a row. I knew they’d win game one, because they’re got a great team and have a supreme talent in Chris Paul, but I was surprised by how much they won. Either CP3 and LeBron, I wouldn’t want to face either man’s team in the playoffs. If New Orleans blows them out again tonight, i can picture them going all the way to the finals.

San antonio knows how to compete though. just when you think its a wrap, they’ll hip check your point guard and before you know it, the series is over and your team is going fishing.

Hope you don’t mind a little Camp Lo for Mr. Cooleyhigh:
