NCAA Tournament

Since many of us are watching the tournament, a new post for it. Good luck to all those who are betting on their brackets. My guess is if Davidson wins it all, some people are going to get pretty rich…

I’m not going to look up Detroit’s draft position for each of the last five years, but I’m pretty sure they haven’t had a lottery pick in a while–maybe not since Darko, who will obviously go down as Dumars’ worst mistake. The others…if you can pick up a contributing player in the latter half of the first round, where Detroit has been customarily picking, you’re doing well. Stuckey, Afflalo, Maxiell and Delfino have all seen quality time on the floor, and Tayshaun is one of their mainstays–he’s what Isiah apparently thought he was getting in signing Jared Jeffries, or something like that. No doubt, acquiring Rip, Chauncy and Sheed by trade were excellent trades, and I’ll agree, that’s where Joe seems at his best. But don’t trash his drafts: they’ve been pretty good (with the exception of Milicic).

“Is it possible guys, that Isiah Thomas decided to tank to pickup the prodigy from chi-town D. Rose? Maybe”

Guys its not like the Knicks just started playing bad basketball, they’ve been playing badly all season. Maybe a better question “would be is it possible guys, that Isiah Thomas decided to tank (the entire season) to pickup the prodigy from chi-town D. Rose?” There was never a point in this season that the Knicks were playing good baskteball. In fact I have to go back to the brawl against Denver to point to a time when the Knicks even looked half way decent.

drossman. read the entire entry before you talk shit.

4 ed drossman March 31, 2008 at 6:06 pm

The problem I have is with your first sentence “Is it possible guys, that Isiah Thomas decided to tank to pickup the prodigy from chi-town D. Rose? Maybe” There hasn’t been a time that Thomas has been here when the Knicks haven’t been tanking. They’ve tanked ever since the lost in the first round of the playoffs under Lenny.

Thomas needs to go and if people here don’t think that, they are either on Thomas’ payroll or wish to be.

New coaches are Mark Jackson head coach, Pat Ewing and Herb Williams assistants. Or rick Carlisle head, Mark Jackson, Pat Ewing and Herb Williams as assist. Anyone have any other suggestions for coaches.

5 ed drossman March 31, 2008 at 6:06 pm

I also like Bill Laimbeer as head coach.

6 DaVonn Obama Jefferson March 31, 2008 at 6:32 pm

I agree Dross about the coaches. I wouldn’t mind Mark or Rick as the head coach
with the assistants you named. That would be great.
I’ve been saying we should tank for the last month and a half for this kid
D Rose. It’s no secret he’s the truth. If I had the #1 pick I would take
him over Beasley. Especially if I was the Knicks. We need a PG more than we
need Beasley. Beasley is not a monster on defense. Rose plays both ends of
the floor and remember I said this….next year when he’s drafted…he will be
THE MOST ATHLETIC PG IN THE LEAGUE!!!!
That’s not me talking shit right now…that’s me being serious.
I’m perfectly sane right now.

7 knicksdefense March 31, 2008 at 6:36 pm

Mark Jackson isn’t known for defense. this team needs a defensive renaissance to become competitive again.

8 ed drossman March 31, 2008 at 6:45 pm

Bill Laimbeer as head coach. He’s never lost as a player or coach. he’ll be tough on the Knicks which is what they need. Laimbeer assisted by Mark jackson, pat Ewing and Herb Williams!

Larry brown has a better shot than Jackson in NY! Jackson may have success with the Clippers
or even IONA! NOT THE KNICKS!

13 ed drossman March 31, 2008 at 8:12 pm

yeah peace, we’re much better off with Thomas and winning 25 games a year. Get your head out of Thomas’ ass. As I said, Bill Laimbeer as coach and Mark Jackson, Herb Williams and Pat Ewing as his assistants.

I had forgot about all the Jackson stuff. I’m not going to hold that against him.I don’t think he has a
real shot at being the coach anyway.I expect Rick Carlisle to get the job, just my gut feeling.

16 ed drossman March 31, 2008 at 8:23 pm

Bill Laimbeer’s coaching record. This guy hasn’t lost as an NBA player or a coach. He deserves a chance at caching in the NBA.

Bill Laimbeer’s coaching record is nothing to scoff at. This guy has never lost as a player or a coach.

18 Mike March 31, 2008 at 8:39 pm

I think Rick Mahorn would make a good assistant. The guy’s pretty sharp, and he could coach up guys like Eddy and David Lee in rebounding and post defense. I’ve read in plenty of places that Mahorn’s got the stuff to be a great coach.

19 D L T Knicks March 31, 2008 at 8:48 pm

I hear you Ed,but that’s a WNBA record.Coaching these high priced superstars may prove to be different.

The coaches and players in the WNBA are not the same quality as the NBA.

He was only a bully in the NBA(he used what talents he had).

Plus a little better than .500 winning pct is not that impressive.

But, who knows these are the Knicks!

Actually last time I checked Pat Ewing, Mark Jackson and Herb Williams are black and I wanted them on the Knicks’ coaching staff. Thomas, regardless of his color, is just a terrible coach.

23 ed drossman April 1, 2008 at 12:22 am

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/05/sports/basketball/05wnba.html?_r=2&pagewanted=3&ref=sports&oref=slogin

[“Bill was coaching when he was playing,” said Isiah Thomas, the coach and president of the Knicks and a former Pistons teammate of Laimbeer’s. “Chuck Daly put a lot of trust in us. We had guys on the floor telling each other what to do, putting together game plans. Bill understands offensive and defensive concepts as well as anyone.”]

“I’m a championship coach,” Laimbeer said. “I win, I demand, I hold people accountable. My job is to say what everybody else is thinking but is afraid to say. Some people don’t like that. That’s too bad.”

He says his style would work in the N.B.A., on his terms. Reflecting upon the Larry Brown fiasco with the Knicks, Daly said, Thomas told him, “I should have hired Laimbeer; he’s so thick-skinned.”

So even Thomas wanted to hire Laimbeer. I guess Thomas is a racist.

24 Jay Bee April 1, 2008 at 12:23 am

Mahorn I like, but daaaaaaamn Laim-beer. He wasn’t a real bully, he was a cheap shot arteeest. I’ve seen his girls play, but I didn’t really notice the x’s and o’s as much as I was checking out the girlies jacking up three pointers and scratchin’ the hell out of each other. Plus he used to get slapped around by the likes of Chief Stiffass in Boston back in the day. Mahorn and Jeff Ruland were the real enforcers back on those ruthless Bullets teams. A pick set by one of those guys was like hot coffee being thrown on your azz. You’re awake now MF!!

25 Jay Bee April 1, 2008 at 12:29 am

Why do we keep throwing around Pistons retreads? Where the hell is Oakley? The only problem with him is that you would not be able to shut him up (media policy be damned) and he would fight at least one of the players. But I betcha he would get his point across. And if they earned it, he would love them guys to death (no homo). I need to check my sources and find out where the heck Mase is hiding these days. I haven’t seen him at homecoming the past few years.

26 ed drossman April 1, 2008 at 12:43 am

Wait you don’t want to hire Laimbeer who has actual coaching experience, having won two championships, but you want to hire Oakley? What kind of coaching experience does Oakley have. I threw up names of knicks like Mark Jackson, Pat Ewing and Herb Williams and people didn’t like those choices.

Here’s where I suggested Mark Jackson as coach:
New coaches are Mark Jackson head coach, Pat Ewing and Herb Williams assistants. Or rick Carlisle head, Mark Jackson, Pat Ewing and Herb Williams as assist. Anyone have any other suggestions for coaches.

Here’s what peace said when I suggested Mark Jackson as coach :
“The Garden continued to boo his azz out of town! They were visious,

Larry brown has a better shot than Jackson in NY! Jackson may have success with the Clippers

Here’s another response to my suggestion of Mark Jackson as coach:

“Mark Jackson isn’t known for defense. this team needs a defensive renaissance to become competitive again.

Comment by knicksdefense — March 31, 2008 @ 6:36 pm”

So if you read my postings you’d see that I did throw up names of Knicks ie Mark Jackson as coach, Pat Ewing, Herb Williams AND MAYBE OALKEY (AS JAY BEE SUGGESTED) as two of his assistants. Before you claim I’m only throwing out Pistons retreads, why not read my postings?

Laimbeer’s definitely not a dumb guy, but I dislike him so much from his playing days it’s hard to get used to the idea of him coaching in the NBA (and he was so fucking smarmy on ESPN I couldn’t bear watching, so I turned the channel. Good thing he didn’t last). So what if we’ve brought up a few Pistons retreads? A Knicks retread is currently doing pretty well in LA. I don’t hear them complaining. Oakley, though…he was all enforcer (and he still kind of is, from what I read). I don’t know what else he brings to the table. But Mahorn (great line about the coffee, Jay Bee!) was not only tough, but also smart. He could do what Rodman did (without the craziness), keep his opponents off-balance mentally…he understood the game. He didn’t just throw people around.

30 edward drossman April 1, 2008 at 10:19 am

I don’t care where the guy is from, NY, Detriot,LA Chicago etc if the coach can win or has won as a coach, I’ll take him for the Knicks.

Peace is unable to stop making racist statements.

31 Steady April 1, 2008 at 11:08 am

Good AM Defenders!
Saw this MSM statement about Belicheat:

Belichick has denied to Kraft and in a newspaper report that he ever taped another team’s practice. He told Kraft that on a scale of 1 to 100, the tapes rated a 1 in terms of how helpful they were to his preparation.

If that’s true Bill then why tape?

I know that previous blame scenarios left Mills with a spank. IMO, Mills and the MSG attorneys got ABS. He wrote the BS glowing evaluations despite clear shortcomings. He did not go far enough when all the ABS theatrics was playing out opting for loyalty to ABS and sister rather than IT. The chickens came home and rested on Mills lap. As far as Monty is concerned, he is a Stern’s NBA creation–All drama, all the time. What you see ain’t what you get. NYK has been patsys to the NBA for far too long and NYK fans should tell both Dolan AND Stern.

Definsider, pitch this scenario: IN: Walsh/West w/ H2O as VP (understudy), Thibodeau, Harter. Mills, Aguire, Glymph out. Walsh sells out an inferior product and arena in Indy. He could do the same in NY on the greatest stage as his last hurrah! Watch Dolan link this announcement as part of the $14 billion Mecca renno. H20 had the right training at Memphis, dabbles in the media insdustry, and is a FOJ (friend of Jim). He can get OJT and get Bird rights. On the NYK side, it’s ironic that there’s mention of the sweet smell of Rose in the Garden. Marbury is still serviceable/can still play and help groom Rose/Augustin/Love for the PG. That expiring contract is a ginormous asset into 2010 when the Mamba and King James are set to relocate.
See what’s good Definsider.

Read an interesting article about what Behavioral Specialists call “Action Bias”–you know, that sense you have to DO SOMETHING as a reaction to a consistent negative outcome. The studies have shown that at most times, the probability of success increases when the protagonist does NOTHING. So Jim, the next time someone tells you: “Don’t just sit there like a lump on a log, Do Something!” Don’t.

Another year that Clyde reaches out to the team to let him lend a helping hand. Will they accept the tutiledge of NY’s best player ever ? Hopefully the new regime sees him as a valuable asset and lets him talk to the team about defense. How could you ignore a living legend ????

Think more about LeBron, Melo and Wade. Kobe’s not going anywhere unless Bynum’s knee explodes and Gasol breaks his leg in five places and has to be euthanized. The Lakers are set for quite a while.

38 Jay Bee April 1, 2008 at 4:43 pm

Every Knick, veteran or new, should be forced to read Clyde’s books first so they show himthe proper respect. Otherwise they may mistake him for the funny guy that calls their games with the retro suits. If you’re going to define what it means to be a Knick, he would be a great starting point.

One of the biggest problems we have is our guards on defense. They need to be taught how to keep a defender in front of them and how to continuously mess with their concentration. You don’t let shooters get into a rhythm. You have to attack them defensively. Make them focus on you. Stay in front and move your feet. Draw the damn foul or challenge the shot. It doesn’t matter if you’re 5’9 if people hate to see you coming. Nate should be obnoxious to players. He’s got that annoying edge to him that if he keeps talking to you in that boyish voice, he’s going to get on your nerves. Put that together with a willingness to get in that jersey, and N8 could be one effective defender.

Jamal has the length, but seems to be afraid to mix it up. Probably because he’s so skinny. When he bulked up last summer, I was hopeful for him because I saw his weight as one of his disadvantages. When he goes to the hole, he goes in softly for a floater or fingerroll. How about a beastly two handed dunk? Is he afraid to hit the floor? Methinks he is. Defensively he shepherds the offensive player in toward the big which often gets them into foul trouble. Rarely does Jamal give true defensive effort. So I believe he would benefit from having a defensive minded mentor that would call him on his shi+.

No need to talk about Fred because he’s as good as gone. His new nickname should be Slot because that’s all he is right now. A slot for a rookie. Steph will play next year and will play well, because he is all about the money. Humbled but hungry, he will not only come off of the bench, he will attempt to be great. He knows if he doesn’t play well or cuts up this year then when he drops off of the books, he will really drop off of the books. That long money won’t last too long once his betta ho divorces him (irreconcilable differences, ABS, BJ in truck, erratic behavior, etc.) I don’t wish that on people, but I see her game and she’s waiting until that last check drops before the subpoenas start flying and all of the sudden she can’t take it anymore.

Mardy may end up being a casualty of war, but if it’s me, he’ll be running the show next year in summerleague like N8 did. See if he worked on his shot over the summer. See how aggressive he comes out. If he’s flat or weak, C-ya!! Cut your ties take the media hit and that’s one more slot.

We’ll know for certain the script is in play when we see that frosty ball pulled from the case telling us we have the next Chris Paul.

43 Jay Bee April 1, 2008 at 9:40 pm

We’re leading 61-59 at the half. Waaaaay too frenetic a pace. We can win like that, but I don’t like it. Reflective of two teams on the outside gunning like it’s an all star game. Zach is solid tonight, and DLee is killing em. Zach needs to stop shooting them three pointers. His three shot looks like Charles Barkley’s golf swing.

44 Jay Bee April 1, 2008 at 9:41 pm

We’re not really competing right now, so I’m just not feeling writing up a whole game. I can do a synopsis on occasion though.

45 Jay Bee April 1, 2008 at 9:43 pm

I’m with you on Clyde, DLT. What could it hurt to get him to work on their fundamentals when it’s obvious that they are lacking in that department.

46 Jay Bee April 1, 2008 at 9:44 pm

My main focus right now is to get a good look at the kids I’ve been asking for all season.

47 Jay Bee April 1, 2008 at 9:58 pm

12 point lead has withered to a tie at 88. Clyde called it. They need to keep the motion going, and stop shooting so much from the outside.

48 Steady April 1, 2008 at 10:12 pm

D L T, the Force MDs are tryin’ to do some things and we need to see if you’re down. Blogzilla please help out with the connect.

Speakin’ of Clyde helping out with the Defense–that’s what Zeke said he would do as his primary job last summer. Looks like he failed as the D was not there. There’s something to be said about bringing back the old NYK warriors for whatever its worth. Look at the NY Yankees. They keep that winning tradition at the forefront and bring back their former stars as coaches and trainers during the spring and get them involved in the business of the team. Monty has done completely the opposite so that he can put his ABS stamp on the team and cock-block everybody else. WTF??? GTFOH Monty and stop cock-blocking our NY heroes. You were an Indiana and Detroit hero. Just because you’re PNG in Detroit does not mean that Clyde, the Big Fella, Oak, H2O, Pearl, etc. should not come back home and reclaim NYK pride. Just bloggin’
