Hawks @ Knicks

March 16, 2008 – 12:34 am

Looking forward to seeing the kids play tomorrow, Chandler can shoot if given the opportunity to find his rhythm, and Morris has good footwork for a big, if he’s allowed to step off the bench and into the game.

Hawks were a solid athletic team without Bibby, a better team with him, because Bibby is the kind of guard who gets his teammates going.

  2. Chandler will start and there’s no reason why Morris shouldn’t get into the game. The Knicks aren’t going anywhere so why not showcase the young players? I like Chandler’s game and think Chandler and Morris were two of Thomas’ good moves. The problem with Thomas is that he makes good moves then never plays those players, so they really don’t look like good moves.

How is anyone to judge if Chandler, Morris and Balkman are good players if for the most part the get burried on the bench? This is the case of Thomas’ coaching decisions hurting his GM signings and draft picks.

  3. I just made a Jackass out of Trane on Hahns blog! Trane basically said I was lying about Mark Jackson
calling the Knicks fans “Rats on a sinking ship” he stated it was Richardson saying “The ship be sinking”
which was true but a different time period, I told him to look it up. He told me he didn’t have to…he cited it!
Well here’s the link to prove it, Note the date is on the extreme left hand upper corner 1989,
This is the reason Mark Jackson will never Coach the Knicks!

  8. Disaster. Neck up. Pitiful. Gone mad! I have hundreds of metaphors that sum up our heroes season. My “We Got This” mantra has changed to “We Got Gypped”!!! What a farce!! Talk about missing the boat!!! This forgetable season is thankfully ending soon. I cannot begin to express my embarrassment for all who love this team. The MSM is having a ball. Local, national, international to name them all. Everyone has a replacement in place. Who cares what those sadistic, poor forecasting, no knowledge, venom spewing embesils say, write or think. Most are the same idiots who tried to run Eli Manning and Coach Coughlin out of town. Changes are coming and they are warranted. The change must come from Mr. James Dolan. Period. He must do the same for the Knicks as he has done with the Rangers and not panic as he did to ruin this year and allow his executives to manage. Mr. Thomas must then practice what he preaches because he has done a ridiculously poor job this year coaching. He has improved the team’s fiscal deficit but his management of players has been abysmal. We will get a top 5 player who will have a instant impact in 09. We must rid ourselves of the James, jerome of course, Jefferies and God bless him, Malik Rose. Billy King got axed prematurely and look at the Sixers? Rolling and beating the best consistently!!!!! With Kids!!!! Zeke, that should be our Knickerbockers!!!!!!!!!!!! Stop the madness and play the kids. They can ball. Chandler is the real deal. Morris is a keeper. I forgot to mention that Curry needs a one wat ticket back to Chi-Town. Balkman, Great Nate, Dlee, Collins should have been getting 30 plus minutes months ago. Fred Jones, QRich are not the future. The kids are. Jamal may stay and Starbury is in the rear view mirror. Zach is trade bait. Blow this up this summer. We cannot remain like this. Dysfunctional. Get athletes who get after people defensively. Believe it or not defenders, with the right moves, we are not far away from being much better than a 19 win team. Admit your mistakes, buy out the players who haven’t panned out and move forward. This is what Sather did, and what Thomas or his successor should do once this inexplicable ends. I’m out!

  9. Yo Peace,

Good lookin’ on that Rod Strickland link you provided on the last thread..you knew I’d dig that shyt!!

You also knew he was one of my all-time favorite Knicks, and I agree, had we kept him instead of Jax, things would’ve been MUCH different in Knicks’ lore.

    @ Cooley,

I remember Sam Young from Friendly HS..I used to follow them closely. Sam was a straight beast in HS!! It’s amazing how his game transformed from a dude that basically overpowered folks to the skilled player he’s become. He does it all now…puts it on the floor, makes excellent decisions, and can even step out and hit the three. His performance was definitely worthy of the MVP. Can’t overlook the heady and clutch contributions of Pitt’s “NYC backcourt”, Ramon and Fields, the later being as tough as nails….the prototypical NYC pg.

I really think he’s improved his draft stock to a late first rounder/early second rounder…he’s that good!!

My son used to play AAU ball with one of Sam’s HS teamates, pg Trevan Jackson, whose pops coached the squad. Man, talk about a basketball mind….

  10. @ Peace, post #2,

Tman strikes me as an honorable cat…seems like an apology is due from him, a retraction at the very minimum.

  11. @ Vic,

I agree wholeheartedly…great post. That pretty well summed it up.

By Bronxboy in Md on Mar 16, 2008

  12. Trane issued me an apology once, when I had him stood corrected.

Honorable cat, but he retreated to the fix.

  13. Yep, excellent post Vic. Great stuff O&B.

I just got Peace’s personal invitation to join the group. All interested parties should advise KnicksD whether they are interested in supplying their address to Peace. I can’t speak for KD, but he has always takin’ the time to hook up Defenders who are interested in making the connection, but it takes a little time to do so I suggest you get him the info ASAP since tonight is the big bracket night. My invitation was individualized so I don’t believe their is a problem concerning mass distribution to spammers.

    Clemson shows its stuff tonight.

Knicks show us stuff tonight. LGK.

  15. Bronx MD,
Re #7, there’s a BIG difference between Tman and any order cloaked character with the T in their handle. Tman definitely strikes me as an honorable character. I refer to him as Coach. He’s a Shakespearian–a quiet man. Now the other kat at the other place–he’s “Lookin’ for Love in All the Wrong Places”. To his credit, I do recall the incident reported by our Orange & Blue.

    VicBit,
Hang around. We need all the positivities to get us through to 2009. There’s a script and even the MSM are beginning to make veiled references to the one played out by Monty. There’s a plan and blueprint that Monty and JamesD know about. We, the loyal fans, are on the outside and just bloggin’. This scenario calls for steadiness. Steady as JD goes.

    Good AM Defenders,
Let me go on record today in full support of the owners of the NYK. I recall being so upset with the Boss over the Howard Spira and Winfield scenario and the reggie Jackson departure before that. I healed and forgave as Winfield did. Reggie is now in pinstripes and on the ear of the ownership regularly. My forgiveness was rewarded multi-fold when A-Rod was brought back for the end of the run. Any time an owner is willing to $buck-up like a Baby-Boss, Dolan, Cuban, Buss then as a fan I must be satisfied. And when a flagship franchise hires (gender and ethnic) minorities for top jobs then you can’t criticize judgement. The Baby-Boss has Asians, Blacks, Hispanics (a son-in-law) and women in top slots. They kept the horses that brought the chips. They can take that 3 AM call because they’ve got good judgement. Not to be un-Steady but should JamesD move IT, I will be Steady as JD goes. Monty can go back to salty nuts and toffee kernels–he’ll be OK. And NY will always be King of the F’n hill.

  17. What am I supposed to do once in? You can see from the last post that I was looking for MBeasley in a Kansas game as opposed to a K-State game. I guess my “non-covetousness” never allowed me to follow the College Game–the last true remnants of pure, un-scripted, and highly competitive bball. I really don’t see where I can add value to the exercise other than be like Rose or James from the bench (LOL). I can waive some cyber towels and issue smiley faces.

  25. @ Peace,

My bad on the Tman/Trane thingy…I knew it sounded very much out of character for Tman. I’m watching the Clemson/NC game…man, talk about a “clash of the Titans!!” They’re goin’ full-throttle.

I like Clemson’s chances in this type of game. Hell, maybe I just like Clemson anyway…:)

By Bronxboy in Md on Mar 16, 2008

Clemson needs to play more of Olgelsby that white three point shooter!
That kid has the touch and range!!!! Great game so far!
I do believe NC will wear down!

By Peaceman on Mar 16, 2008

  27. Hansbrough is a beast, no doubt. If he declares, he’ll be a lotto pick.

Olgelsby has area code range…that kid can flat-out shoot. Unfortunately, he’s one of those “diminishing returns” types….

Clemson’s front line goes after it on the offensive boards..they’re very explosive. Mays looks like a late first-rounder.

    @BRONX

There’s a Lot of great BBALL minds in the COUNTY…As a matter of fact Justin Jack (Jared Jack’s younger bruh played with Sam at Friendly HS). From Coach Butler to Coach Lewis to Coach Martin to Coach Newsome to Coach Lanier, the list goes on and on. PG County continues to produce the WEALTHIEST Bruhs and Sistahs, and them folk have Baby Boys and Girls who can play BBALL & FTBALL at the highest levels LOL LOL…Sam has a PF mentality in a SF body. He has increased his skill level significantly and will DEFINTELY attract serious attention at the next level if he stays in school one more year. HE GOT GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    @ TRICKY VIC,

Great post and you always deliver a heartfelt expression regarding your FANSHIP and you always THREAD THE NEEDLE with some reality bits and some understated optimism…Like STEADY As It Goes, I’ve always liked your style and your SWAGGER…

    @TMAN,

Your Big O Essay was on the money. Some of the Youngins don’t remember the big time BBALLERS of the 50’s & 60’s or the 70’s for that matter; Walt Bellamy, Gus Johnson, Dave Bing, Dave DeBUSH (BTW Bronx that’s who KLOVE reminds me of)Jerry Lucas, Walt H, Mr. Hudson, RBARRY, Big John WMSON, Mike Warren, Butch KO-MIVES, Kevin Loughery, Gail Goodrich, Cazzie Rus, The Senator (A College BBALL Legend), Fred the Mad Dog, Al Attles, not to mention Willis R, WES UN, Mr.Logo, Elgin, Pearl, Better Bean, Chet Walker, and the Other Walker (Jalen Rose’s Pop) Van Lier, SJONES & Johnny H & BRUSSELL , even funny shooting Don Nelson…TMAN, you need to write a little SERMONNETTE about the BBALLERS that not only paved the way, but Stood for something greater and larger than the GAME…Anybody recall the the Hoopster’s that stood Strong with one of the GREATEST ATHLETES IN ANY GENERATION, by the name of Sir Jim Brown when he called this nation and the Sport’s industry to task in Cleveland?…

Tonight I invite every DEFENDER to put your brackets to side for a few and watch BLACK MAGIC and learn about the McClendon’s and Jobe’s and Bigger Than BIGHOUSE Gaines and ALL of ther legends that had to walk that long RODE OF BBALL LORE…

Lastly Defender’s, Henrietta Wells, the Young Freshman Cutie from Wiley College that was depicted in D Washington’s lastest film ‘The Great Debaters’ passed away on February 27 (What is amazing Defenders, she participated on that Debate team for that ONE YEAR of Glory, because of her circumstances, she had to quit the following year to work). Let’s be thankful for her presence and essence here on earth, and hope that young Men and Women everywhere incorporate in their lives her Reverence for God (her Husband was a long time Minister), Respect for Character, and Her Yearning for Learning…

Also noted on the athletes that hail from the Southern Md area…seems like you can’t watch a game (especially b-ball) and not see 2 or 3 familiar area names (NC with 2 - Marcus Giynard (Oxen Hill) and Ty Lawson(Andrews AFB, Suitland Md))

  36. 1. Never called you a liar. (Find it.) I only cited the quote people know. 2. I acknowledged the quote I didn’t know. 3. That doesn’t change the fact that your premise is still wrong. That (1) Garden fans remember what Jackson said and (2) would hold it against him. They don’t. And they DO remember what Michael Ray said. Which was my point. Ten out ten people here will remember what Michael Ray said. I doubt 1 out of 5 will remember the Jackson line.

Oh, and BTW — What I wasn’t going to look up was the quote “I” cited. And I said it clearly. You’re so eager for a fight you don’t even read. My post was in reference to what I cited. NOT what you cited. Here is the entire post: “Why would I look it up? I know when it was. I cited it.” I CITED IT. I don’t mind a difference of opinion. But beating your chest over something you misunderstood is a bit much . . . though not uncommon. Keep looking. You’ll get your fight. You tried with “submission error.” But that didn’t work out too well for you either, did it? You’ll try anything. This is tedious.

    Here we go again.

Can the Kids pull it off?

It’s probably for the best(at this point in the season) that Marbury,Curry and Q(maybe) are out.

We need to see who is worth keeping.

O.K, Steady, play JJames some minutes to see if someone else will wants him (at 5mill a season).

I want to continue will Lee,N8,Chandler and Morris.

The New GM and/or Coach has to shape this rooster.

    If it’s

    Minus Curry
    Minus Marbury
    Minus Q
    Minus Collins
    Minus Rose
    Minus James
    Minus Jefferies
    and think about Zach too.

WE NEED PLAYERS WHO BRING IT EVERY NIGHT!!!!!…..look at Houston minus Yao??????????
The other players are stepping up their games with defense.

    Anybody else watching??????

  51. Balkman to shoot 2 !

By Peaceman on Mar 16, 2008

  52. Defenders,
Did you know the Bball version of the Baseball’s Mendoza line is called the Crawford line. It explains the number of games played without having made a playoff appearance. It stands at .307. What a SHAME. Still, he collects the coins so I’d be cloaked with the Veil of Hypocrates if I took a stand to further disparage. He’s a Knickerbocker and on my team.

  53. @ Lives, post #45..

I guess that’s the reason. Maybe I’ll just assist as a consultant, for a small percentage of the winnings….lol

  54. Zbo doing the passive agressive act tonight. Folks must be chomping at the bit to move him this summer.

  55. As I imagined – all you can do is resort to attack mode. Sorry, but what amounts to “you stupid” ain’t exactly a rebuke to be taken seriously.

It’s all good. It must be nice to imagine yourself so formidable. Yet, in my experience, people who really are, don’t feel the need to beat their chest and yell about it so much. Genuinely beautiful women don’t talk about their looks. Seriously rich people don’t talk about money. And really smart people don’t feel the need of reminding others.

By Trane on Mar 16, 2008

  56. Bronxboy…I sent you 3 more invites…make it work!
We are gonna Kick some ass! I have a bracket minus the play in game,
    I smell blood!!!!

  57. TRANE take a Train….or go under one!

By Peaceman on Mar 16, 2008

  58. @ Steady,

I’m glad you took the high road on that last post in regards to Craw. It’s not his fault he’s been on rebuilding teams his entire career.

We all know in the right situation, he can turn a team that’s “this close” into a championship squad.

By Bronxboy in Md on Mar 16, 2008

  59. Lives,
Re #45 and Knight–True dat and thus I can’t see how this situation goes on for a full season next year. He’s so volatile and having the rest of the talking heads on guard not to piss him off or trigger a live disagreement/blow-up takes away from the finished product seen by the audience. I’m certain we’re not the only smart pink-eyed mofos in America looking at this false chemistry exercise.

    Bronx MD,
It may not be too late. You can always fill my whole bracket. I saw 2 college games this year. :-)

  60. Maybe I’m too hard on Chandler…but he just doesn’t
seem to have the WOW factor! I think he may lift too much
    affecting his offense!

By Peaceman on Mar 16, 2008

  61. @ Peace..

You’re sending me the same links….but don’t despair, see post #52.

  62. Has Randolph Morris played yet? if not, then why????

By Bronxboy in Md on Mar 16, 2008

  63. Nah Bronx, it’s about steadiness and being a real fan instead of a hypocrit hatin’ on a guy with God-given talent who’s doing things that I could not do. It tickles me when I read guys who jump on blogs and type about pros who suck and meanwhile they’re watching in the stands or never, ever laced them up. Most importantly, he’s on my favorite home team.

  65. Peacemen,
Looks like WilChan got a PLAYBK at practice. It has no O in it.
Monty popped off to the MSM sayin’ that they want to see his D and rebounding ’til the end of the season. Looks like the script is well written.

  71. I’ll tell you what..after listening to Bobby Knight today,
I believe he can coach the Knicks and Zeke moves back to GM!

By Peaceman on Mar 16, 2008

  72. Oh, LGK.

By Lives In New Jersey, Loves New York on Mar 16, 2008

By Lives In New Jersey, Loves New York on Mar 16, 2008

  74. LIVES…EXPLAIN>>>PLEASE????

By Peaceman on Mar 16, 2008

  75. But then again, it would be so much fun watching him call out the media-idiots.

By Lives In New Jersey, Loves New York on Mar 16, 2008

  76. Explain what? My sadness at how Isiah seems to be coaching this as a throwaway or how crazy Knight is?

By Lives In New Jersey, Loves New York on Mar 16, 2008

  77. I just remember Pittino trying to get the vets to play D and press. They just laughed at him and were mostly recalcitrants. New York was respectable and there were one less Lone-Rogue-Ref back then. The script was less scripted. Not sure the Knight style works at the pro level. It definitely would do much about changing the culture of the place. But who is IT to talk about what culture the place should have with the body of work displayed thus far. I’m just bloggin’.

By Lives In New Jersey, Loves New York on Mar 16, 2008

  81. DOLAN would lift his Media policy with Knight!
Hell he would invite more Media!!!!!! WORD!

By Peaceman on Mar 16, 2008

By Lives In New Jersey, Loves New York on Mar 16, 2008

  92. I don’t care if Crawford shoot 30 times this quarter, RIDE HIM

    Have a good night Defenders.

Peace hook a brother up. I should get paid for watching this.

By Lives In New Jersey, Loves New York on Mar 16, 2008

  107. Chandler needs some coaching to develop those physical attributes into a nice little offensive game. He has the raw materials. Raw is the operative word, but a little tweaking here and there will be good. You can’t just let the guys play. You need to teach them something too, unless you, as coach, don’t expect to be around this summer.

  116. Peace,
Are you running point on this bracket thing? If we’s gonna be a team, I want to WIN. What is the winning play? It don’t make no sense to come in there competin’ within our bracket. Write the script and we’s all will be on the same sheet of music. I will yield my time to the the honorable gentlemen from MD. Send me a completed WINNING bracket by 3/20. Otherwise, we can take 6-10 shots at having a winning bracket among us with the same okey doke–he wins, we win. Ya dig. Hola what’s good.
