Knicks at Magic

March 1, 2008 – 1:04 pm

The New York Knicks (18-40) get a chance to prove themselves tonight when they visit the third best team in the eastern conference, the Orlando Magic (37-23), who are coming off a loss on the road to the Philadelphia 76ers. Orlando is one of those strange teams that plays better on the road (21-12) than at home (16-11). Teams such as the Magic that can win on the road are prime candidates to play spoilers in the playoffs, where the ability to steal road victories is a great advantage in advancing to the next round.

If the Knicks play hard tonight, they have a shot at victory. They must shore up the defense, and prevent Orlando’s perimeter shooters (Hedo Turkoglu, Rashard Lewis, Keith Bogans, Mo Evans) from getting the shots they are accustomed to taking.

The Knicks have been getting wins lately against teams that have been missing their key players. While it is a good sign the Knicks are beating teams they should beat, actually getting a win against a healthy team with a good record would be a huge boost for this Knicks basketball team.

  12. Now,now, perk up those little unhappy smiles, wipe those little tears away!Better times are ahead!Patience is still a virtue.Remember what Coach Jimmy V said about a good day.You have to cry a little and laugh a little (or something like that!)And the Daily News had it all today.Mr.Dolan was all over it!Some excerpts:

“Stern wasn’t gushing with optimism when he made the comment. But as longtime Stern-watchers point out, for him to be upbeat at all, he has to know that something will absolutely, positively, definitely happen.

Stern wouldn’t get into specifics. But he has long wanted the Garden to get its act together, working with other league execs behind the scenes to get Dolan to hire a “league-approved” executive such as Vandeweghe to try to change the franchise’s fortunes.

With the Knicks being irrelevant, the league can have the best race in the history of the Western Conference, and it can have a revitalized team in Boston, but it doesn’t resonate in the media capital of the world. So the league ends up suffering because of Dolan’s flawed regime.”

    Now for the laughing part!

Asked about Thomas yelling at him during the timeout, Curry said: “I’m pretty self-motivated. I don’t need anyone to tell me anything.”

Dwight Howard, chiseled at 265, Edie, chiseler at 285?

Ha,Ha,but who is the laugh really on?

Finally if nothing here has made you cry or laugh, or laugh or cry, try this. It’s not ball, but it’s not far from it.Enjoy!

  13. Sorry about that .There were three things, not two!For those who value specifics,I looked up the text.Very worthy and food for the heart, mind and soul.

“To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. And number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it. If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that’s a full day. That’s a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you’re going to have something special.” -Coach V.

    If they don’t win it’s a shaaaaaaaaame…”

It may be two strikes and two outs, but there’s that chance. Isn’t that one of the reasons we watch sports in the first place? To see an underdog overcome against all odds. To see what a man has in him. We’ll see what our Knicks have in them. Play them to the left if you want to, that’s your choice, but they’re still “your” Knicks.

  19. I still watch the Knicks—don’t get me wrong—they can be fun to watch because they can still put up buckets. Putting up buckets is a reason that shows me that this team would be something to watch in the future. Just a little tweaks here and there, players subtracted and added, a nice top draft pick would be nice. The kind of draft pick the Knicks haven’t had since Ewing. Imagine that!!! Perhaps a rookie point guard for the Knicks that comes out smokin from day one. With the confidence of a Jordan and dynamic scoring like a rookie Iverson. And Artest coming on board to join the party, and defense becoming a focal point because the offense is already there—-the Knicks can be a future force that teams should not sleep on. Isiah’s suspect coaching needs to be monitored. I know he never wanted to coach in the first place but to be the GM only. He probably recognized that his skills in the coaching dept. left much to be desired. But we and he knew he couldn’t say no. Larry Brown at the moment could’ve led the Knicks to greatness. But thats neither here nor there.

In closing…I don’t want the Knicks to quit, because they still has a job to do, and that is to win games. AND Any given night the Knicks can beat any team in this league—just that they can’t beat any and all teams consistently enough to go on a winning streak. Most of it is because of their streaky DEFENSE. Curry should be ashamed of himself for his lax luster defense, and lax luster rebounding, but his passionate enthusiasm for high calories diet continually goes unabated. Not just Curry fault of course, but wasn’t he suppose to be the Knicks next Franchise player? Came to find out when someone asked Curry last season, “Would he like to be the Knicks next franchise player?” “Yes!!!” Curry declared emphatically.

But this year he truthfully admitted he misheard the question and mentioned the person asked him, “Would he like more “FrenchFries”? Where Curry did emphatically say “Yes!!!!” too! So it was all a big misunderstanding about Curry becoming the Knicks next franchise player.

I’m still rooting for the the Knicks to win everygame they play—but If not, someone plug in that ping pong balls machine– rev it up —and lets get this party started for next season.

  20. You guys are fabulous.

Tman, great words as usual. Thanks for pulling up that Dick Gregory piece. It was so funny and honest, that although I saw it a couple of nights ago, I just ended up watching the whole thing again. And yes, at the end was very BBall relevant.

Yeah, Jay Bee and Peaceman, that’s what I’m talking about.

Bravo Anti. I agree. The foundation is there and we know exactly what we got. . . . Curry needs to wash his ears out. LOL.

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

  23. Isola with strong accusations in today’s NY Daily News:

“And yet, Thomas has never used the D-League. He even vetoed Larry Brown’s attempts to send Nate Robinson down to the NBA’s minor league two years ago. There is a theory that Thomas, who led the CBA into bankruptcy, doesn’t want to contribute in any way to the D-League being a success. Thomas denies having a personal bias against the D-League.”

By knicksdefense on Mar 3, 2008 at 1:38 pm

  24. @ #21… KD, I really thought after the allstar break, our new young players would have their chance to shine, show Knicks fans what they can do. Isiah, gotta realize we need some hope here too, no?. Real live minutes at opportune moments…. some needed confidence & experience is due the young players…. and just maybe his ace in the hole is sitting right there on the bench, he’ll never know until he give them a chance.

By Syd on Mar 3, 2008 at 1:51 pm

  25. KnicksD,
That Isola theory is jibber-jabberwocky. The guy conceived the notion of a D-League via the CBA and Stern ran with it. If Stern forces IT out of NY, I’ve got sneakin’ ’spicion’ trust that his handlers will “force” Stern to create room for him in the NBA the way the same way it was done for Stu. Heck, maybe Stu gets bumped up and IT replaces him. Just bloggin’.

Funny how Monty is shufflin’ the three Kings on the cardboard box, flashin’ Kingbury and Kingcury as the reasons why the team does not have a better record or in he “thick of a playoff run”. Which card will you pick Defenders:
    King of Pain…
    King of Lies…
    King of Fool…

In it ’til the King dies or die tryin’

  28. Yo Steady

I would hope that Stern does Thomas the courtesy of fining a place for him somewhere in the NBA. Bad enough that the Big Lil General ran with the Lil Lil General’s idea, now he is part of the plot to get him out of the one place where the lil lil general thought he could redeem himself. But if Curry and Marbury didn’t bury Monty in a hurry then surely The Big Lil General’s scriptwriters wrote the script of the final straw that is breaking Monty’s back.

  29. OBTW

The show of resolve in the face of unmentionable odds is a great thing to see. Kudos to you Peaceman for leading the charge with your generals– Lives, Jay Bee, and Steady.

I’m with this train untill it breaks on through to the other side is remodeled, and or crashes completely.

Also I heard speculation that should the Nets Big Rat Ratner get them to Brooklyn, Jay-Z intends on pulling his mogul juice to lure Lebron over. The reasoning for this specualtion is that bout Carter, and Jefferson’s contracts expire at the same time that Lebron is a free agent. You know Lebron loves the Yankees.

But a major move to block this route from being realized helps the Knicks chances of keeping Lebron from the Nets, and may provide them with a chance at landing the King himself.

On a more important note stopping RATner from developing over in Brooklyn will stop many a family from being dislodged from their habitats in one of the great City’s in the world. And that is why I’ll cheer any effort undertaken to keep the RATner and the Nets from Crooklynizing Brooklyn.

It sounds like you’ve been studying how Monty moves those cards around on his familiar Card Board Box. I know Monty’s been telling the gathering crowd that he keeps his ‘Trick Card’ in his vest pocket, but if you study the movement of his hands and those cards long enough you can figure out which sleeve he’ll pull the next one out of just by watching his eyes.

Where’s the CARDS Monty? I also want to commend Brudder LIVES for his fine expose on ‘The Winning Attitude’ a recipe for Successful Living at a Higher Altitude…That was great stuff Brudder LIVES…

Per my custom on Game Day, from the Rooty to the Tooty, I am a New York Knick Fan and I’m pulling for TEAM to win another game…
