Good win the other night by our Knicks. Jamal got hot, Zach had another solid game, and Lee came in off the bench and produced. So we were able to close them out, but like so many of the defenders have said already, Jamal isn’t always going to shoot like that, so the keys to a victory today up in Toronto may be a little different. Jamal, when he gets going like that, is fun to watch however. As Gus Johnson would say, “Crawford has in-the-gym range!”
The game time tonight is slated for 6pm.
The Knicks have to take care of the basketball, play tight defense, and, like everybody’s been saying lately, move the ball. If they do these things, can they make it two on a row? In a few hours we find out.
I did get to see some of the #2 Tennessee vs #1 Memphis last night, what a great game. This guy Prince on Tennessee is just a heck of a competitor, they gave it 110% in terms of rebounding and defense and knocked out the undefeated Memphis to take their #1 ranking in the nation.
Derrick Rose looked like the real deal. We’ll see more from him during March Madness, but just going from last night, he can be a leader in the NBA. He had 24, 5, 5 and did whatever the game required him to do at that moment. Good ability to go coast to coast and finish at the rack, solid defense, got his teammates involved, can drive to the basket and take a hit, can pull up and stick the jumper, reminds me a little of D Wade. He might be a little short to play the two guard in NBA, but we’ll have to wait and see how his game translates at the NBA level. Dumars was a hall of fame two guard and he was the same height as Rose. Right now it looks like Rose or Beasley will go #1 and #2 in the draft, Beasley did had 44 and 13 last night, but his team also lost.
Free Wilson Chandler!

didn’t get much from the bigs tonight. the knicks’ seattle back court put up good scoring and did not turn the ball over, but toronto’s defense shut down the knicks’ frontcourt. the seattle back court has to get their bigs going in the game.
the third quarter killed us, gave up a lot of wide open shots. the knicks just assume they’ll miss. the recovery time off a double team in the post is too slow.

Sam Mitchell/Isiah Thomas – Raps/Knicks – Feb. 24/08
I’ve been trying to figure out Zeke all year and tanking games is one theory that I will keep on the table along with many other theories that i would have never considered (see Steady’s Chicago Boy’s Theory). I’ve also got the “Q’s got serious dirt on Isiah Theory” and the “Balkman and Mardy didn’t pour his morning cofee just right” theory.
Anyway, here is my fuller take on Jamal… with a little ’80′s flavor (or lack thereof) http://www.cosellout.com/?p=229
Good AM Defenders
Seems like Zeke can’t find 5 guys to play consistant for 1 game.
This is what we got till October………not good.
This is why I hate Eddie.
“I’m going to continue to do what I do. I’m not going to change who I am,” Curry said. “I just really hope I fit in here. I hope they see that I fit in, because I think I do. I just have to keep doing what I do.”
Doing what ? playing small ? not playing D ? Clogging up the middle on O ? Don’t change Eddie. You’re perfect as the failure you are.
Those few times in the 2nd half when Zeke sent the guy least likely to recover ( EC ) to double Bosh leaving a wide open Bargnani was absolutely retarded. I blame alot on Eddie but it doesn’t help that Zeke was setting him up to fail w/ that weak defensive scheme.
Yo defenders use guys be a great basketball family.
But
I think Andrea Punani bent the Knicks over with some three balls that went balls deep into the Knicks craw!
Thomas is a defensive genuis rotating slowcity Ey Curry over to double on Bosh and then have to recover on Punani.
He must love smashing his head up against the oppositions fist figuring it will work out somewhere.
Thomas is part of the reason the teams basketball IQ is so low.
Hey seems like James is yapping up again about being traded to a team who’ll use him.
From Marc Berman’s latest article on the NYPOST
‘Center Jerome James realizes there’s no role for him on these Knicks and hopes Thomas releases him this summer if he can’t trade him. James is owed $12.8M after this season. James was a DNP for the third time in four games.
James said he understands his buried status, but would rather not be a Knick next season. Since getting healthy and being activated five weeks ago, James has appeared in two games for five garbage-time minutes.
Because of James, the Knicks have the max 15 players and no roster spot to sign a playmaking point guard if one shakes loose now.
“I might not fit on this team, but I’ll fit somewhere,” James said – adding he won’t negotiate a settlement.’
Here’s a question. With the West getting bigger, and certain teams jonesing for a servicable big man, why don’t we use James expiring contract to obtain some servicable parts the Knicks clearly need.
Online GMs is this feasible, are there any trade proposals anyone here can come up with?
With Dallas?
With Denver?
There is clearly a need for size in the West! Let’s get something done!
O&B
The problem is Jame’s contract is not expiring!
I tell you WHAT # 46 seems to be deadly accurate.
Another thing….if there is a Coach in the NBA that can motivate
a big and a PG, it is none other than Riley…so I believe Steph and Curry
may end up there next season, how that gets done and for who is the big question!
new power rankings
So James thinks he’ll be released at full salary to help “his” career. However, he is not willing to negotiate his salary down in order to “buy” himself out if that’s what he really wants. Another team, if he’s really wanted, could make up the difference.
somebody found this over on knicks knacks, thought you might find it interesting:

Curry and Malik for Matrix ? just bloggin’
If I were Zeke, I would have to ask James what he has done for the Knicks in his tenure here that makes him think they’d give him a full salary parting gift and let him sign w/ another team. I think James should actually owe the franchise money not vice versa.

DOLANS’ DESIGNS
RAINBOW SALE IS AMONG CABLEVISION OPTIONS
By PETER LAURIA
February 25, 2008 — Cablevision has been quietly working with Bear Stearns on ways to enhance shareholder value, including putting a value on its Rainbow Media unit ahead of a possible sale and drawing up a list of targets for potential acquisitions, The Post has learned.
Several sources said that after being sidelined for months in the aftermath of the Dolan family’s failed attempt to go private, the family is trying to “figure out the math” for Cablevision’s next move.
The company has already bid for wireless spectrum being auctioned off by the federal government, which if successful could help them pursue acquisitions in that area. And sources suggested the company might look for ways to bulk up Madison Square Garden and its sports-related assets. For example, last summer Cablevision made a play for the Yankees and its related YES network.
Cablevision hasn’t been an avid seller or acquirer, but after four failed attempts to go private, the Dolans are looking to do something to reinvigorate the company at a time when investors have soured on cable companies.
The company doesn’t have a lot of cash on its books – about $800 million – but its projected free cash flow gives it substantial room to make some purchases.
Wall Street analysts estimate Cablevision will generate between $600 million and $700 million in free cash flow this year and significantly more after that.
Even at the low end of this year’s free cash flow projection, Cablevision would have the debt capacity to acquire about $2 billion worth of assets, sources said. Selling Rainbow would only increase the amount Cablevision could spend on acquisitions.
Sounds like they want to cut debt, not incur new debt, enhance the value of the franchise in the marketplace and buy into being a bigger player.Losing will not enhance that desire. All those not seen as part of a newer and more successful regime are history.Dolan the Elder has spoken, little Jimmy seems to be going along.Look for IT and Jerome to all play hardball in terms of a buyout. You reap what you sow.LGK PS.Eddie looks a little lighter, maybe it’s just my eyes.Let the man get his six fouls! How is it that the only big man who can block a shot can’t even get a minute?Anybody can lose by twenty, give Jerome a chance to look bad. He’s paid for.Does anyone honestly believe Jamal will shoot us to a second half .500 record?
CF, I started to address this post “From a Cheeky Monkey to Donkey’s Cheek” but I figured you weren’t in the mood to laugh at yourself since you’re imagining that the Harlem Gospel Singers were probably singing all the way to the bank. So I won’t try to be more cheeky or monkey-like than I already am.
You put me in the position where I had to decide whether it was worth my time to find the passages I am referring to.. . . Unsure of what a “false dialectic” could be, I thought about it and I thought I could find the passages pretty quickly. Unfortunately it appears that the historical record has been lost as I believe we were forewarned they would be once the word-deletion program went into effect. Therefore, I think there are posts that you made that I cannot find.
I specifically recall a post where you supported the deletion of the N-word and another post where you specifically suggested that anyone who could not write without using those words should find somewhere else to post. I also remember you tossing the ACLU around like a bad acronym at anyone who cited freedom of speech as an argument against banning any word. I don’t recall whether you instigated the Peaceman episode, but I believe you did under the theory that the “word” was inappropriate because it was “hurtful” or “harmful.” So I am pretty sure that, despite the absence of a supporting record, that you advised us that you opposed the use of the “N-word” on this site because it was harmful.
Was the above, the “crock” of your argument? O’k so here we go again with you pointing to the “crock” of your argument, like your main point is a camouflage for all those “minor” points you make or insinuate. It appears that your favorite argument is to avoid the argument. (LOL).
Anyway the references don’t really matter because I was just curious how you were going to address the issue. And you kindly addressed the issue by referring to the “Pman incident,” which was not part of the question, while conceding that banning the N-word was “related” to your point but not the “crux” of your argument.
You also dismissed the Z-Bo incident by referencing, without detail, how I “framed” the question instead of dealing with the issue. How, I “framed” the question? Talk about chewing on a red herring. So, your response to the conundrum is clear and clearly follows your pattern of “false dialectic” which I believe would not be dialectical at all. Thank you working through your musical disappointment and offering a response to my query.
(I was so impressed with your argument however that after I “framed” it, I called the Director of the Lourve and suggested that they start a wing with your creation. They asked who you were and I told them one of the greatest bullshyte artists in American history. I think they are going to check your work out and ask for the opinion of dung master Chris Ofili. Paris here we come).
“Conundrum Master,” I also recall you inferring that I was disingenuous in a post which I responded to by advising you such language was more offensive to me than the “N-word.” I don’t recall a response. But I do know that your rationale for banning the “N-word” is bogus, if not disingenuous Did I tell you that I am at least ½ black? And I gotta tell you that the Black in me takes great umbrage at being compared to a monkey (cheeky or erudite) – you do know that referring to a Black man as a “Monkey” is not much of an improvement, if any, over calling him a “N-word.” But you did know that, didn’t you NEGRO? (I’m playing nice.)
(For the record, all those other races and nationalities that make up the rest of me also find the reference disrespectful and disparaging).
Anyway, the bottom line is this: you’re dull of . . . . contradictions and any claim by you that you are opposed to harmful language like nigro on principle is clearly not based on any solid principle.
Anyway, the bottom line is this: you’re full of . . . . contradictions and any claim by you that you are opposed to harmful language like nigro on principle is clearly not based on any solid principle.
Opps, “crock” was supposed to be “crux.” I know someone is saying “same difference” but I say “my bad.”
Modi,
I really enjoyed your Jamal Crawford piece. As inconsistent as Crawford is, there is no indication that he will become a sixth man for anyone any time soon. You’re just gonna have to be mesmerized by those eyes and you best believe somebody is going to take him home to mama.
1. His shooting percentage has improved from last year and is at equal to his best when he has started over 30 games and played at least 60 (5 seasons out of 8).
2. His shooting percentage would probably be slightly better if Isiah was not stuck on that crazy end of quarter play where Jamal works the clock down with a defender all in his face before launching a difficult shot with 2 seconds left from about 20 feet. He rarely makes those shots.
3. How do you think Jamal would look alongside LeBron or Kobe or Duncan? Better? Probably.
4. Who on the Knicks should replace Crawford in the starting line-up?
5. Not that it really matters, you do know that Marbury is a career 43% shooter and he was shooting almost 42% the past two seasons. He also is a career 78% free throw shooter and 32% behind the arc although he was better the last two seasons.
6. I do agree that Jamal should not be considered the “star” of a team. We were supposed to have three stars: Jamal, Curry and Zbo. LIVES IS IN THE HOUSE AND DYING LAUGHING.

Looks like the Pacers, Wizards, Bulls and ATL will all lose tonight
which may be good for the Knicks!
Here’s what I don’t like about Beasley…Dx Express caught the same thing here:
We’ve seen a fair share of Beasley-esque plays where he forces the issue and tries to do too much out on the perimeter (for example an ill-advised double-clutch pull-up fadeaway jumper), but he’s been able to make up for his mistakes largely by just rebounding his own misses and putting them back in. Beasley was known to be somewhat of a selfish player in high school at times, and from what we could tell from the game footage we evaluated early on, he’s not quite shedding that label quite yet. The ball-movement often stops once it reaches his hands, and oftentimes it seems like he is going to take the ball at shoot it no matter what, regardless of how the play develops around him. That’s something some NBA scouts won’t mind at all, while others will hope he’ll grow out of as he continues to mature.
Defensively, there is absolutely no way around the fact that Beasley has looked awful so far–not really a surprise considering his reputation coming into college. Even when he tries to put in a legit effort, he looks unfocused–almost completely lost– constantly out of position, and too often caught with his hand in the cookie jar gambling for steals. He doesn’t always put in that legit effort, though, as it’s not rare to see him looking a bit lazy running the floor to get back, particularly in transition situations. Again, some scouts will shake their heads at these types of things, while others will chalk it up to youth and inexperience.
Does this remind you guys of any of our Knick players??????
Ali G using my freaken computer again! lol
KnicksD,
There’s a lot of great scouting points on Rose, but I like to see the good, bad and the ugly,
here is the ugly since there is so much good hype on him!
January 30, 2008
Derrick Rose came into this season hyped as one of the best freshman in this class, and with that hype, came some very lofty expectations. Rose’s 4.4 assists and 3.0 turnovers per game don’t exactly lend themselves to the Jason Kidd-style pure point guard comparisons that Rose has drawn, and the fact that this was just his second game with more than 6 assists on the season isn’t very encouraging either. But as always in these cases, it’s important to look deeper than the stats when scouting NBA prospects.
peace, i hear you. also, that youtube video of derrick rose high school highlights was all dunks (granted they were extremely athletic dunks at that). had we youtube back when kidd was in high school, it would have been less dunks and more sweet passing and all the rest we associate with kidd’s style of play throughout his career.
with the knicks out of contention, I’m still going to watch all the knicks games, but I look foward to march madness and will try to notice some of these outstanding players in college, beasley and rose included in the mix, but also some of these other kids like Jordan and Lopez.
beasley’s coach always looks like he wants to kick somebody’s ass.

N8 has become the one to watch. IMO he is willing to say the things that Crawford doesn’t. Hopefully he is saying to Crawford the things he needs to hear too.
As a guard, if you can score at will that’s useful. You have to sacrifice that a little to become a facilitator. N8′s game should emulate Tony Parker’s more than any other athlete. Parker goes to the rack just like N8. Tony has a respectable outside jumper and he can make the three pointer. He uses those tools to get the ball to his teammates. Billups, same way. You can’t leave those guys alone because they’ll kill you either shooting or driving. But when the defense comes to defend him the ball shouldn’t just kick out to the three. It’s got to move. People have to cut.
If all we’re doing is outside shooting and threes then we get predictable and anybody can stop us. What we tend to forget is that when the ball is on a swivel and bodies are cutting, we’re hard to defend.
On defense, N8 needs to be pesky. An eye-poking, tiddy-twisting, scratching and physical defender. He has the strength to guard almost anybody. Now let’s see if he has the will and the discipline.

***BIG LONG THINGIE FOR LIVES (MOSTLY)***
Lives, my apologies for the delay. When my ADD acts up, it’s quite the effort to overcome boredom and this stuff is getting way tedious. I’ll just respond to your bit this way instead of writing up a full ‘essay’ type thing…
S’okay, I’m over the gospel “show“ now (we were duped!). Live an learn.
Yes, cuz you’d put ME in the position of having to look up stuff which, to my mind, was comfortably different from what you were assigning to me. Hey. my time’s worth somethin, too. If you’re going to call me conundrum master (please note you began the name-calling first) and distort my position on things, you should at least come correct with something specific. Your fuzzy misinterpretation should not count before an honest attempt to back up your claim.
Nope, many of them are still right here, in fact relevant threads (e.g. “disrespectful words“) are still right there in the “Recent Posts“ section listed on the KD main page. I mean, you have to try a little bit man. In the future you can just put ‘[search term] site:www.knicksdefense.com’ in your google search bar and wa-la you get a starting point.
Anyway, you quoted a few sentences of my comments re race-based insults in your lovely post to me called “More Folly Chronicles” (#8 in the thread). You don’t have to scratch your head in deep thought, just go back to what you wrote yourself!
Now you know how to find the ‘ACLU’ quote now, along with the others that are still kickin around.
No, the crux of my argument was about the whole class of race-based insults, so in so far as banning the n-word fits in with that, I’m in full support of it. I mean the whole idea of anybody-can-be-a-nword/wop/[insert your favourite culture slur here] is on its face ridiculous to me. In any event, in an open forum like this i’m thinkin guys oughta realize that not everybody will share that obviously rare viewpoint and avoid such weaponry.
Yes, let’s get back to the point at hand, namely:
In the raptors at knicks thread (#171) LIPSS (Lives In a Perpetual State of Snit) said:
Easy. From where I sit, they’re not the same thing. And as for “supporting” zbo, see the first paragraph of my response in the trade deadline is today thread (#131). If it rose to the level of Zbo swinging fists in response to the words (and, I repeat, we don’t know what was said, or know the history/dynamic between these two), breaking into a brawl that forced patrons to back the eff up, then I think that’s obviously a gross reaction to N8. As I said, for me, a cup of water for N8′s transgression is about a wash. If you’re equating zbo’s reaction in that instance to pman’s reaction to the troll (or saying that zbo’s case was far worse) then we’ll have to agree to disagree re that comparison.
I aimed to give the zbo-n8 bruharhar full context. Say you gots a friend with two kids in their early teens. They’re both “fiery” sorts. The older one has a harelip he’s pretty sensitive about but he’s clearly the better at sports. The other doesn’t have a harelip but he’s not as good at sports. Your friend tells you about how one time the two of em were playing a game and got into some sort of squabble, wherein the younger one teased the older one about his harelip and in response the older one pitched a cup of water at the younger one. How upset are you over hearing this tale (beyond feelin sorry for your friend)?
Now let’s say you’re having a lil party at your house, you know most there, but some you don’t. The kids (yours an your guests’) are off in a bedroom playin a video game or somethin. Alla sudden you hear one of em screamin at the top of his lungs, “[NWORD]!!!!!! [NWORD]!!! [NWORD]!!!!!” Are you embarrassed as all get out if it turns out it was your kid reacting to a guest’s kid’s teasin?
Do you feel as badly for your friend’s kids (case#1) as your own(case#2)? For me, it’s not the same at all.
Earlier in the season Zeke had to be physically restrained from going after QRich. There was no hue and cry over that and there should be less over this.
Nobody is admitting that the if it were Rockstar who went off on a nword tirade there wouldn’t be this same shrug and commentary about free speech. We’d rightfully be pretty damned pissed about it. Because pman is an elder, he gets a big pass. So it def matters WHO is committing the “offense,” that should be in the calculus, but just because he’s a friend don’t mean you should let him go buck wild at your party, freakin out all your guests. Jus’ sayin.
Pot, meet kettle.
oh, but I DID respond (too much skip-passing, friend). now that you know the google trick, you can find it yourself.
Oh, what, because you say so? Because you can drop a nice pre-game writeup in well-crafted prose? Is that why? CooleyHigh sez I worked behind the scenes to get the n-word ban in place and it’s true just b/c he can quote some mean scripture? Because he’s an “elder?”Elder means sayin shit w/o even trying to back it up? Elderhood is supposed to be about wisdom and patience; somea y’all need to go back to elder school.
just funny that the arrogance and self-righteousness that’s ascribed to my writing you do not see in your own.
what the hell?! ANOTHER half-black blogger in here? so, what’re we up to now, 155 of youse? man, what’re the odds (long), but it does colour in a lot more of that tribal dna. hm. interesting.
anyway, as a fully Black man (ain’t no half-mixin, no mistakin me for ‘sicillian” or anythin else), I too would take umbrage at being called a monkey. I imagine any person would, but I’m glad to see you recognize there’s a special history behind certain words that will take a long while yet to overcome.
for what it’s worth, I meant no racial disrespect at all (as a Black dude who cringes at the use of the nword, that would make sense, right?). I meant it 100% purely in it’s usual colloquial sense, that you were being purposefully, well, cheeky. I’ve never used the term or interpreted it in any other way (and this is the first time i’ve heard it interpreted that way).
this kinda reminds me of that classic uncomfortable situation where you’re talkin with some White dude who finds occasion to look you dead in the eye talmbout, “just callin a spade a spade,” and grins. in your head you’re all, “WTF?! Did he MEAN some shit?!” but since it kinda flows with the convo you feel like you gotta let it slide til you get more evidence. Well, this ain’t that.
now, if you really mean it when you say you took it as a racial slur, I APOLOGIZE (omfg, my balls didn’t fall off! wshew!!). there was no intent to pitch a racial slur at you and I had no idea it was common enough (??) to see it that way. however, if you didn’t really mean it and just took it as an opportunity to continue with your indignant cheek act, well you can kiss my brown eye.
Lives, you see what you want to see, as far as your ego and charity will allow.
dammit, johnQ, you beat me to it. dnice is done. alright affy, guess i’ll be buyin the first policy. i need coverage for blog infatuation.

I know we need a good point guard—the likes of a Chris Paul or Deron Williams would be nice.
