Raptors at Knicks

February 22, 2008 – 9:29 am

First home game in a while and its snowing outside (tonight it is supposed to rain). Tipoff is slated for 7:30pm at MSG. Bosh, Ford, Calderon, this is a good team. Tonight will be a challenge.

I guess there are many interpretations to the Knicks’ inactivity at the trade deadline. When you’re at the bottom of the Atlantic, and you get blown out by 40 the night before, it would seem that a move needs to be made. Still, nothing came through, so the Knicks will continue with what they have. I am glad we didn’t get a player like Kenyon Martin (high injury risk, even higher risk to salary cap).

So with around 28 games remaining in the season, and the Knicks currently out of contention for a playoff spot, we blog forward.

*Note: if Dolan does want to replace Isiah Thomas, and I have no idea if he does, because I am not him, but if he does intend to replace Isiah, why wait? Is Dolan trying to make Isiah look bad, they way he did with Larry Brown making him go to the draft camp in Orlando despite no longer having any say in the organization towards a draft choice? If you made the change now, you could at least make a 28-game audition for next season out of the remaining games. Maybe Dolan isn’t going to get rid of Isiah Thomas? Who really knows for sure?

  2. As alot of you said in the earlier thread, at least we didn’t get fleeced for our young talent or get stuck w/ an albatross. It could have been alot worse. No half hearted Carter, no plays smaller in the playoffs JO, No injury plagued Nene. I guess I should be saying whew.

  3. So far we are doing exactly what we should be doing.
    No moves at all!!!!!!!!

Keep losing this season to solidify our draft spot (high).
Sign Artest in the off season.

How great would that be if we can draft either Rose or Mayo
    and also sign Artest?

I just wish we could’ve worked out a deal for him now but hey…..

  4. Why would Dolan get rid of Zeke for following his orders?
Everyone knows it was Dolan’s call that started our downward spriral
with the Marbury to the bench order at the Sun’s this year!
I don’t think Dolan is that stupid or low enough to fire the very same
coach that carried out his orders to a “T”
Add the fact that Zeke may be the best at drafting in the NBA and
it would appear that Dolan has accepted responsibility for screwing
    up this years team!

Maybe this is what Dolan has told Zeke:
Dolan: Look Zeke finish out this year, get us a good pick
in this years draft and use Marbury’s 21 Million expiring contract
to get us what we need to win next year…and I’ll STFU all next season! OK?
Zeke: Fine Jim, Just STFU next year..and BTW I want to bring in Bob Knight
and work on being GM! OK?

Dolan: Fine, I’ll lift all media restictions with Bobby here!
Hell, those NY MSM guys will want me to reinstate them
    by November! LOL

  5. Imagine Coach Knight’s half time locker room talks when the Knicks
play like Shyt? It would sound just like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yw7KijRfU-c&NR=1

  6. Concur with most of post #3 Peace, all except the Bobby Knight peice.

I listened to that youtube rant above, and that would never hold water with today’s professional athlete, much less these Knicks.

I can see either one of two things happening as a result…

    a. They would either quit on him or tune him out, or

    b. He would be a victim of a vicious assault (Zbo comes to mind there)

Mr. Knight is not our coach.

ARTEST STILL HAS SHOT AT KNICKS

    By MARC BERMAN

    RON ARTEST Stuck with Kings

    February 22, 2008 —

‘Ron Artest still is not a Knick and Eddy Curry and Zach Randolph still are.

Artest, a Queensbridge product, will likely opt out and become a free agent and the Knicks can offer him the five-year, $30 million mid-level exception as a free agent.

But who knows who will be the GM and coach?

Isiah Thomas loves Artest and at one point last summer thought his addition could lead the Knicks to winning the East.

The Artest camp prefers the Knicks try to work a sign-and-trade with the Kings this July. But if not, the five-year mid-level could work if no other team is offering Artest a long-term contract.

“If there’s a competitive offer on the table, the hometown team would become very appealing,” Artest’s agent Mark Stevens said.

The trade values of Curry and Randolph became so diminished in recent weeks it made no sense to deal him now.

Curry, whose role has decreased dramatically since late December, was made available in a larger deal for Artest, but Sacramento would have had to take on Jerome James’ contract. Last season Curry was considered the franchise center.

One GM said during the All-Star break the Knicks “cannot win with both Zach and Eddy together.”

Thomas seems to realize it, too, but only Denver and Milwaukee seemed to show interest. The Nuggets are led by Mark Warkentien, who drafted Randolph in Portland and knows him well.’

Free Wilson Chandler!! Free my boy Shuttlesworth!! He got game.
Free Renaldo Balkman!!! (Why is he on the bench again?)
Free Randolph Morris. No exclamation points here, I just wanna see what he can do. Is it time to sit Eddy and let him stew while we see if it’s worth resigning Morris? Probably.

  10. @ Bronxboy

You don’t think that happens in Sloan’s, Riley’s, POP’S, and Jackson’s locker rooms TODAY????
That’s what these Knicks need! Screw the “Love” approach when we have Philly beating our azz by
40 points! Uncontested layups???? The Knicks do need to stop Fucking around and get their heads
    out of their assholes!

I don’t believe that any Knick would assault Coach Knight, the Millionares have learned from the
Spree incident that they would get their azz banned from the league for assaulting a Coach!
They earn Millions….and because of that fact, they should get cussed out when they don’t
deserve their paycheck! Most of the time it is a player(Captain) who says what Bob Knights says
to the players! What you just heard Knight say is “PG” compared to what happens in Sloan’s ,Riley’s
    and Jackson’s Locker rooms!

The difference between the above named coaches and Robert Montgomery Knight is the above named have carved out a niche and have earned the respect that comes with being the masters of their craft….in the professional ranks.

    Knight hasn’t.

That’s why Carlisimo was assaulted, and so would the General.

    It’s as simple as that.

  13. I would send Curry to the D-League to work on his game and get in shape.

    By D L T Knicks on Feb 22, 2008

  14. It would be nice if the coach had final word and respect of the players. All athletes should be held accountable for their actions (or in Eddy’s case inaction). Obviously if the players make 2x-10x what the coach makes, why would they listen to him ? Today’s athlete has too much power, makes too much money, and doesn’t expect to be held accountable for what he says or does. That’s what happens when u let the inmates run the asylum.

By JohnQ on Feb 22, 2008

  15. DLT,

Thats actually a great idea (12). Send Eddy down and let the kids get some burn in this already lost season. The problem is, he’d probably get more wins that way thus lowering Eddy’s already bottom of the barrel value and losing out on Rose.

  18. Mardy can go D-Leaguing for a while. Learning

By Jay Bee on Feb 22, 2008

  19. Mardy is indeed an enigma. How he could show the promise he did last season, to make a legend show enough interest to want to take him under his wings, to looking so bad at times this season that an argument could be made that he might not even be good enough to run in the D-League, is truly unfathomable.

I’m sure there are dudes watching Mardy saying, “WTF does he have that I haven’t got????”

By Bronxboy in Md on Feb 22, 2008

  20. BX,

Could he still be having problems from last years injury ? If its not that, it must be confidence issues after running the gammut early in the season ( DNP all the way to starting PG).

For those boys who are asking that question………the answer is………a contract.

By JohnQ on Feb 22, 2008

  29. I haven’t read the book, but I remember when it first came out somebody was talking about his career and said something like he never received a technical foul in his career. Could you imagine? And I’m sure the refs were more racist then than they are now. And his game was predicated off of half court sets and defense.

    That’s old school.

Clyde was my idol coming up, but I patterned my game after the Pearl. How he used to spin off of defenders w/his assortment of head and ball fakes was something to see.

Re: The notion that today’s athlete “makes too much money” strikes me as one thoughts typed through the veil of Hypocrates. How much do you feel today’s athlete should make? If your athletic aspirations had not been snuffed by injury, how much loot would you expect to be available for your years of training, God-given skills, personal effort and toil? How much of the purse do you feel should go to the owners and agents? Lift that veil JohnQ. Don’t hate the playah. The rest of the symptoms from today’s game are not all the fault of the athlete. Coaches implement the TEAM vision and GM bring in players and salaries while fans pay at the gate, vending booths, online purchases, etc.

2 for 3 trade. Who do you think would have been cut to get us down to 15 ? My guess is that Morris would have been cut.

By JohnQ on Feb 22, 2008

  35. Steady,

I hear ya. What if coaches made more than the athletes themselves ? They are held responsible for the team record and getting all the pieces to mesh. They are also the 1st ones axed when the team doesn’t respond. What if the coach was more important than the athlete ? That would put the power where it belongs, with the club itself.

The 3 clubs you pointed out have 3 of the finest athletes you could ask for in KG, Nash and Duncan. It helps that 2 outta 3 were foreign born. I submit that these guys (and a few more) are more the exception than the rule these days. Maybe I’m just gettin’ old and can’t relate to todays me-1st attitude.

  38. THE KNICKS’ SILLY SEASON NEARS AN END

Pre-game Analysis: Knicks v. Toronto Raptors at the Garden

Well, no matter how you look at the Knicks’ 2007-2008 season, it’s hard to look at. The Pre-season on-court activity was so much not a harbinger of things to come (‘cept N8 was ballin’ then and he is ballin’ now). The crystal ball for the season (as cloudy as the crystal was) was the off-court activity of the vets – players and playas real similar.

The wanna be News-makers at the Daily News, repped by Frank Isola (he of bad journalistic rep) may have finally gotten something right when they dubbed the house on the corner of 33rd and Seventh Avenue, Madness Garden. And Newsday was prescient (or just observant) when it called the Knicks world “wacky,” because eventually the madness did spread to the court enveloping the entire Knicks universe from owner to intern to cheerleader to booing fan.

In retrospect the future was evident in the present: Dolan got his azz kicked by No-Nookie-Nucha to the tune of $ 10 Mill; Zeke got raked over the media coals, almost-dead enough for publicity-vultures to start picking at his carcASS; Marbury spoke his giddily mind, which we thought was tied to the heart he left in Rome, in cryptic biblical-verse (sounded like Hebrew). And poor Zach became an extra in the wrong movie – “Escape to New York.” The signs were all there waiting in the Pre-season for what we thought would be the regular season. But it wasn’t regular at all. It was just silly; yep, the Silly Season and now it continues against the playoff bound Toronto Raptors.

    Can things get any sillier?

By Lives In New Jersey, Loves New York on Feb 22, 2008

  39. Is there any reason to watch our Knicks get blown-out tonite?

    There is no help coming…….none…….nobody….no trade….no coach……no GM…..nothing.

So what you see, is what you get for 2008.

Curry still has no desire…….no heart……..”get that rebound E”,”nah,I’m too tired”

    There’s no “d” in Zach…..there’s no “pass” either……

    Crawford wants to make his numbers………..4 for 31 fg,14 for 14 ft..CRAWFORD SCORES 24..wow!

Lee has the fight, but is no one man team (like MJ was)…………”It’s not black people,it’s only MY teammates”

N8 just can not block enough shots to cover Zach & Curry’s paint party(all are welcome, bring your ball)……

    Q is lost in space…………………helloooooooooo….

    Balkman can’t get any burn…………

    Chandler can’t get any burn………

    Morris can’t get any burn……….

Collins is still making Big Apple Turnovers(free hand-outs every game)…….

Zeke can only find 2 players who play consistantly at a professional level….

Rose is the highest paid(7,101,250.00)player who never plays……….

Jefferies went back to D.C. to find HIS GAME……….

James went back to school to find out what “GAME” is…………

But, I like their chances, cause I bleed Orange and Blue………..and football season is over.

  40. Knicks, 16-38 v. Toronto Raptors, 29-23

    PART II: Overview

“”When we see them with their heads down, we want to stick the knife in deeper,” said Raptors forward Jamario Moon, who had 17 points and 12 boards against the Magic [on Wednesday]. “We’re going to put our foot on their throats from now on when we see them down.””

On January 11th, the Knicks, during a mini-winning binge, lost to Toronto 99-90 after being down at one point by 17 points. Although the Knicks were never in the game, figuratively and literally, for a small number of fans those were the good old days when Marbury was on the court and players (like Qrich and ZBo) were dissing Zeke’s substitution patterns left and right.

The last game is nothing but a continuation of the stomping that Toronto has treated the Knicks to for the past three seasons in which the Raptors won the series 3-1 each year. New York will get two more chances after this game to win at least one. They play each other again in Toronto on Sunday and again on March 28th.

Toronto comes into the Garden with a 2 game winning streak and after beating up Dwight Howard and Rashard Lewis 127-110. Toronto is in second in the Atlantic, 12 games behind the Boston Celtics, vying for third place behind Detroit. If the playoffs were today their first round contest would be against the new look Cavaliers.

Toronto didn’t want a new look, but general manager Bryan Colangelo wanted to bolster his front court with Joe Smith from the Bulls. Didn’t happen but yesterday, Toronto traded guard Juan Dixon to the Pistons for barely-used 7′1″, 255lb center Primo Brezec, who becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1st. This appears to be addition by subtraction, since an unhappy Dixon was being phased out of the Raptors aggressive guard corp. The failure to add Joe Smith is meaningless to the Knicks bigs who already have trouble playing the Raptor bigs. We’ll discuss this in greater depth later.

  43. Starting Line-Up

We expect the following rotation. I am not sure whether T.J. Ford is ready to play yet. I don’t think so since I read that Mitchell was satisfied with Delfino backing up Calderon at point for now.

    Jamario Moon PF
    Chris Bosh PF
    Andrea Bargnani PF
    Anthony Parker SG
    Jose Calderon PG

    The Bench

    Carlos Delfino SG
    Jason Kapano PF

    Injury Report

    T.J. Ford (day-to-day, wrist)
Jorge Garbajosa (out indefinitely, leg injury)
    Jamario Moon PF

Jamario is a 6′8″, 205 lb rookie who is seeing more time and earning a steady spot in the Raptor rotation. He is averaging 28.3 minutes per game, 8.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists. His field goal percentage is 46% and he hits tres at a 30% clip. He likes to take shots from the perimeter (about 19ft) and from either wing. He will hit the short, sideline-tre.

Against the Knicks on the 11th he scored 14 points, had 9 rebounds and made 4 steals. Most of his shots came from the perimeter. His scouting report calls him an athletic freak.

    Chris Bosh PF

“Howdy partner, did you like my cowpoke all-star ad campaign? It worked.”

Yes it worked, but not as well as the play of this #4 pick (2003 draft) who is averaging 23 points, 9 boards and 1 block per game. He is very skilled: can run the court, hit the perimeter J, drive to good effect and rebound. He has weaknesses and can disappear against good defense.

He needs a strong mobile, immovable body on him. Malik Rose is a slightly better defensive match, but Bosh will shoot over him.

    Andrea Bargnani PF

At 6′10″ 250 lbs, he gives Toronto a large front court. According to his scouting report he has “ nice face-the-basket game. . .likes to shoot the three. . . . good mobility and ball-handling skills.” He is not considered a great rebounder or a passionate player. He averages 24 minutes, 10 points and 3.6 rebounds. He is good for one assists but 40% from the tre-arc.

The Knicks will let him hit about three tres and 15 points. He’ll get more if they switch to the zone with him on the floor.

    Anthony Parker SG

A European star, he is best in an up-tempo game. He averages 11.9 points and barely 2 assists per game. He is a tre-bien-poppin’ fool with a 48% average. Of course, he will be guarded by Jamal who will stand behind the line waiting for him to drive when he is going to shoot.

The Knicks should make him uncomfortable and force him to drive. Body him at the three, let him drive; then rotate and fill the passing lanes. Force him to make decisions to pass the ball while on the move. Steal-city, guaranteed. But the Knicks won’t do it. Pop. Pop. Pop. Goes the tre. That’s the snap of a wet net above Knicks’ defensive ears that you hear.

    Jose Calderon PG

6′3″, 210 point guard averaging 13 points per game and 8.9 assists. This man is the key to the Raptor play.

The last time the Raptors played the Knicks, Calderon had only nine points on 4-13 shooting, but he had 8 assists. He likes the midrange jumper and the tri-fecta (48%). This assignment belongs to Nate, Mardy and Jones. Mardy doesn’t really fit in the rotation and needs more time to develop confidence, but he is probably the only guard that can slow Jose down. But here is a thought: what about putting Jared Jeffries on him or Balkman to switch things up a bit. Yes, they would probably foul out, but it would disrupt the Raptor flow for a bit of the game.

    Carlos Delfino

Delfino is a 6′6″, 230 lb shooting guard who averages 9.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists and 40% from behind the arc. He scored 23 points in his last game against the Magic.

    Jason Kapono

We know this Knick-killer well. A former three point competition champion, Mitchell will insert him at the right time and the Knicks won’t notice he is on the floor all alone behind the Arc de Triomphe dropping tre bien at a 50% clip. He is listed at 6′8″, 215 pounds and delivers 8.1 points per game and 1.6 rebounds per game in 20 minutes per game.

We’ve got more issues coming to the Garden tonight. At least we know these will eventually go away.

  45. HOW CAN THE KNICKS WIN: YES WE CAN

    CONCLUSION

I must admit that I no longer enjoy writing this section, because the Knicks don’t win and Isiah is too stuck in the mud to take my suggestions. But, I will pretend that I am writing this for a right-thinking, open-minded, and logical coach.

Toronto’s game plan will be to attack the basket and to use their quickness against the Knicks. The word is out that you can drive on the two big men and force Isiah to sit them down early. That will ultimately leave the Knicks small and unable to stop Bosh. Isiah refuses to adjust hoping that his big boys will wake up and force the opposition to adjust, but the entire league has already adjusted and even at their best, Curry (15 minutes played in the last match-up against Toronto) and Randolph (10 minutes played in the last match-up) will NEVER be able to handle teams like Toronto defensively together. NEVER.

The Knicks will have a difficult time keeping up with the Raptors speedy and penetrating backcourt, although the Toronto team is playing without the services of injured guard T.J. Ford.

So how can the Knicks win. Hmmmmm. First, commit to hustle and work hard and not to turnover the ball. Second, sit either Randolph or Curry as soon as possible. A starting five of Randolph, Jeffries, Rose, Jamal and Nate would provide better defensive energy although they give up a bit in size. Jeffries tight on Bargnani, Rose or QRich frustrating Bosh, and Randolph forcing Moon to shoot and defend is a decent defensive match.

Nate is probably overmatched with Calderon, but he can make Jose work on the defensive end too.

I would substitute as the circumstances warranted with Lee, Balkman, Jones then Curry if Isiah insists on playing those guys. I would love to see Chandler receive some burn with a unit of Tyrone Lue/Jamal Crawford/Eddie Curry/David Lee or substitute Curry with Balkman. Opps, I think that line-up is not possible for a couple of days. Sub Lue with Jones.

The idea is to put an aggressive, lengthy and laterally competent defense on the floor as opposed to a bruising, fumbling offense.

Establish a better hold on the interior with Balk, Lee, Rose and Jeffries. Shoot throw in James or Morris. Then force the tre-shooters to drive and shoot twos. Let them drive. Let them drive (except for Calderon of course).

But Zeke doesn’t get it and we probably won’t get what we’re craving.

  46. BX/ JohnQ, I want to read that Clyde book you’re talking about (I know he’s written more than one) because he has the “keys to success” or something like that he said it once on MSG and I thought they were golden words to live by. Have not picked up a copy yet, and have since forgot the “keys to success.”

John Q, I bet you would have been right about Morris, had there been a trade. There are a lot of guys that don’t play on this team–I would have wished for Jerome to leave because he really hasn’t played this year as I knew he wouldn’t.

Jay Bee, FREE WILSON CHANDLER. today’s game is for the young kids with athleticism. put that cat in the starting lineup and see if he can get us some blocks since we’re worst in the league right now at 2.5.

Steady, yo, as long as the NBA/Pro Basketball industry is making all that money, the stars are entitled to a good percentage of it, right?

excellent preview lives, thank you for doing what you do! way better than I could have ever done, admittedly.

you know, that knicks team that came together in the overtime against D.C., that team could play with these raptors. unfortunately there is no telling if/when that team is going to show up, maybe they should throw water at nate before tipoff ;)

thank you guys for being true knicks fans and sharing your knowledge and opinions here on knicksdefense.com.

i’m not ruling out victory tonight (especially if Ford doesn’t suit up). depends on HOW MUCH they want to TAKE it from toronto! I think part of the problem of the 40-point blowout is they get satisfied winning just one, fall asleep at the wheel, somebody has to motivate them to go out there and play like they were in college and not guaranteed to be drafted.

    just bloggin’

i’ll be down the street at the pub for the game, hope it is a good one…

  47. Looks like David Stern has won another round.Everyone in the Knick environment is sitting on their hands and playing nice with each other for the moment.Looks like Dolan, the Elder put his foot down, or maybe up someone’s behind (Dolan, the Younger?) and a new plan is now in place. No one spends any more money or moves anyone until the new management is in place to make any new decisions.IT plays out his season, or part of it until Stern’s new management team comes in to reconfigure our boys. That means there are probably a lot of shaky colons on 33rd St.Mills and co. will probably be casualties as well. With NBA Europe on the table and NBA China on the horizon there cannot be any loose cannons in NYC.To bad in a way, corporate NBA is no way as interesting as the mom and pop ownership we love to deride.Boston a big loser in the trades, they didn’t get any better at the point or get depth. That behind the back fake ain’t going to do it in the playoffs.Loved the Cleveland trade.LeBron got lots of help! They are now tougher defensively and Joe Smith and Delonte are better than what they had, deeper now too.Go Cleveland!Loved the San Antone trade too, Kurt makes them bigger and tougher defensively. They’d be my favorite except bone spurs don’t heal.If Parker can play up to par with pain they have to be the favorite.Without him I don’t think so, although watching Ginobli lately is pure pleasure.Seattle, nice future moves, loading for bear, nice!L.A. nice moves, Suns could be the real deal, but only San Antone and Cleveland got better defensively.I guess we’ll find out if Noah, Brooklyn Poly Prep’s Hessian, is the real deal.He needs to take out some Michael Cooper tapes and study them real hard if he wants to stay in the NBA.That could be his future if he wants to be an All Star, he’s not the next Ben Wallace, a shorter lesser talented Tyson Chandler maybe. As for our boys, we’re on hold. Not a terrible thing, because as one of our pundits mentioned, we can’t get any worse and maybe guys will settle down since they have to realize there will be no trades and they are all being evaluated for next season this season. If they don’t understand that they are very mistaken. As far as their salaries, their agents have explained to them that they are really entertainers and paid as such.Nobody is giving any money back and why should they?Nobody held a gun to ownership’s head.Get what you can, it’s the American way.By the way, I want to win, but, like most of the brothers here, loving the Knicks is in the DNA, can’t help it and don’t want to!TV goes on at 7, win or lose!LGK! Oh yeah, Lives.NEGRO!PUHLEEZE!I immediately had to check my backpocket to make sure my wallet was still there!Like Reggie Jackson said a long time ago, somebody has to be the straw that stirs the drink! It doesn’t mean you’re the onliest one.Lots of straws at KD, makes the drink tastier.Game time comin’ up!Love is a beautiful thing!

Maybe…just maybe the Knicks will play better because they know this is it!

By Syd on Feb 22, 2008

  81. Some of that penetration starts because Nate has trouble getting over those long, bumpy knee picks and the guards are driving right to the hole. Toronto has the advantage but the Knicks can still win this game. Peace, I am with you on the need for Lee to do a bit better. He is playing like Curry on D (except he rebounds).

Will Zeke keep Curry down so that his team can keep it’s rhythm. Bring Curry in later to keep Toronto off balance.

We had Crawsome tonite. Everyone is loose. Monty even had the good sense/wherewithall to pull Zach with a 3 seconds, putting in super-scrub Jones so that Zach could get some Mecca Mojo from the HARD/SAVVY NY Fans. Useful Monty–King of Hearts move.

Indiana U situation RESOLVED–good. Lives, get that fella a Mic on ESPNU.

Good night brothers and sisters (whoever you are).

  172. I am watching the Suns-Celtics game and I am convinced that the Celtics play defense like old school thugs. Very, very intense and intimidating. But, the Suns with Shaq and Stud-admire are more than enough to handle the Green Bullies. They are not intimidated. The Celts are trying to rough up Stud-admire but Shaq turns them into jumpshooters.

Yeah, Grant Hill also looks like the real deal again. Really nice.

  173. They got me again. I had to take them to the movies. Remember The Spartans. Kill me now. I am rubbing my wrists together furiously until I draw blood. Really, it’s gonna be like Fist of the Nortstar up in here. I’m going put my foot down just as soon as I celebrate this win with my wife. Except she won’t know I’m celebrating on her azz. Is that wrong? I’ll have to figure that one out later. Right now I have to stretch and meditate.

Oh great basketball gods, give me strength to wax that azz tonight in the name of the victorious Knicks. Forgive me for any impure thoughts I had after the 40 point Loserfest to Philly. I will purify my thoughts and focus on the playoffs that were promised to me in the preseason. In the name of the Clyde, and the Patrick, and the Bernard…amen.

But there is one thing from one poster, I would like to know and although I don’t think it will take him all day to contrive, I really mean construct, an answer I want to give him time to give it a solid foundation.

    Ah, great “Conundrum Master”, CharleyF

How do you reconcile your strong opposition to the use of the commonly accepted derogatory version of “Negro” as a response in a verbal battle with your support of Zach’s responding to a verbal battle by throwing a cup of water on someone?

Grasshoppa here, is keeping in mind the earlier lesson that “Sometimes complex is complicated, but sometimes complex is nothing but funked up contradictions.” I await your new lesson oh “Conundrum Master.”

Enjoy the weekend Gents and Ladies.

  176. Defenders good morning. Our mentally challenged Heroes pulled a rabbit out of the hat last night with our franchise center playing 9 minutes. Say what? Excuse me while I fill my crack pipe!!! What in the name of Sam Hill is going on here? I love the passion in this forum but only a few seem to understand what the real issues with our team are. Neck up, period. Starts with Mr. Dolan. Ends with me, the janitor, who happens to been in the clinic. The season was lost after the Miami game one fateful Sunday night. Marbury was blamed for what most clear thinking objective observers would disagree with. Flashback to that game, the Knicks were in control most of the game until Zeke forgot to put Steph back in the game earlier in the 4th quarter. Steph entered with Miami on a roll and our Heroes were in panic mode. At least he was not afraid to try to make something happen, yet Mr. Dolan blamed him, gave the order, thus the beginning of the end. Yes, Steph should have handled the situation with more professionalism but Zeke should have challenged Mr. Dolan on his thoughts. Last I checked, Mr. Dolan never played the game but he plays the banjo?? I have stayed away while the usual suspects defend, whine, ridicule, bore and so many other metaphors that I don’t have time to name about our Knickerbockers. The bottom line is until this team gets some heart and passion for each other, we could bring in the Mamba, the King, the Kid and whoever to this weak minded bunch, the results will remain the same. The MSM is salavating to know what Mr. Dolan’s next move will be, only to ridicule further. It’s his own fault. Firing Zeke would be too easy. Make him deal with this childish group he has assembled. Talented but very immature young men. We desparately need a point guard who leads and defends. We also need role players who bring it every minute they are out on the court. Not turnover waiting to happen stiffs. We need ballers who thrive on the pressure of being a professional athlete in New York City, refer to my football Giants. Not overpaid scrubs who disappear and pout when challenged. Ego and Essence. Understand that we lack both. This equates to where we are as a team, organization and fans. We still unbelievably have a weak pulse after all I have written. It’s time for the organization to stand up and become the winners we expect. Holla at your Playa if your not a hata, peace and Posner’s hair grease!!!!

  177. Jamal Crawford does his part to insure a Knick’s win yesterday, and Frank Asswhola still finds a way to rip into him.

Fool then comes up with an article in which he again fails to note why certain trades happened, in an article in which he covers Thomas’ position that he didn’t want to trade just for the sake of making a move at the trade deadline.

Contrast Asswhola’s style of writing to that of Howard Beck, who although also skeptical of Thomas at this juncture approaches the same subject matter with less personally inspired vitroil.

While I agree with your point about the need for a point gaurd, and also acknowledge the whole Isiah-Starbury mess early in the season as one of the reasons the Knicks demise, and concede that clueless Dolan should have his pet project taken from him, I am not so quick to make a judgment call against all the players on the Knicks roster, nor to dismiss them all so quickly.

    Below is your own quote.

“Firing Zeke would be too easy. Make him deal with this childish group he has assembled. Talented but very immature young men. We desparately need a point guard who leads and defends. We also need role players who bring it every minute they are out on the court. Not turnover waiting to happen stiffs. How does anyone determine ahead of time, hindsight being 20-20, which ballers will or will not thrive on the pressure of being a professional athlete in the NYC like your Giants? Congratulations by the way that win was an all time classic!

Last year your Giants were in a similar, albeit wholly distinct, situation to that of the Knicks.

Papers were ripping into Head Coach Tom Coughlin, many were calling for his head, his diatribes on the sidelines were becoming legendary, and some of his players were questioning him and other players within the organization– note Tiki Barber, bytch as primadonna who at this juncture is considered, along with Jeremy Shocky, as two of the players whose absence translated into a different team and locker-room atmosphere, many will credit in part for Eli’s emergence as a leader, and the Giants improbable Super Bowl run.

Last year the Giants were on the brink of going over the ledge and no-one suspected such success would happen for that team so quickly within the next year. The character of superbowl MVP, Eli Manning, was under scrutiny etc etc.

But what a difference a year makes, with addition by subtraction, some maturity and growth by the head coach, and the step up to the plate Eli took.

This is not to say that the Knicks, have an Eli Manning in the wings just yet, but the season has been tumultous, the players with character issues detrimental to the team (Marbury), and motivation insufficient to merit court time (Curry) appear to be identified, and quarantiened as of this writing.

Sure I note that the Knicks structure is far from comparable, and I myself take issue with Isiah wearing to hats, and using one hat to make decisision that cover up his decisions while with the other hat.

The young players on the Knicks roster, and the servicable role players brought in, will have to learn on the fly and recoup from the terrible chemistry experiment, and internal dysfunctions. But I believe if they play throught thos initial strikes against them, then a team will emerge out of the morass. Sure it won’t be a championship calibur team. But a team with the opportunity to improve through the draft, smart cap management, and prudent off season signings might emerge.

You can’t expect to throw anyone into NY, who is not at superstar level, and expect them to handle the pressure of playing in NY, and learning how to win in this fickle sports atmosphere. That’s why I’m cheering for this team to play through its malaise, and learn how to compete, and then win on the fly because it sure won’t happen over night and teams do take steps backward- NY Giant’s quick start last season, coupled with their late season collapse, and post season demise v. the Giant’s early season woes, and mid season turnaround that put them in position to make the playoffs, and find the momentum needed- against the Patriots BY NOT TANKING THAT GAME– to resurge and make the superbowl run for the record book!

OBTW, were you calling for Coughlin’s head last year.

That Marine makes me proud he brought the Chip back to the NYC and Tri-State.

By Syd on Feb 23, 2008

  180. The above regarding the Giant’s not just sitting down for the Patriots at the end of the season is the prime reason why I won’t cheer for the Knicks to purposely loose.

Learning how to win, and learning how to win against veteran, and championship calibur teams is a process, and this Knick’s team is going to have to face the music and learn that process. Might as well start now, b/c there is more to lose- in terms of confidence, and foward momentum- by intentionally losing than there is to gain by going out there and learning how to play, compete, and win as a team.

    OBTW Vicbit

  182. Good win last night gentlemen. I wish we could play small like this every night and be successful. I love an offense built on the scoring of Crawford and Zach sprinkled w/ the effort of Lee and Nate. Q even showed up for a nice little stretch there. The Zach shot at the half was sweeeet ! @82…….exactly. At the end of the game I was proud to see Nate had ice in his veins at the line. GO NY GO NY GO

Now all we need is a shot blocker/intimidator. When I think about what this team could be if Eddie concentrated on D and sacrificed his offensive game, it makes me sick. He knows why he sits. He can’t be oblivious to the fact that we need him to play big on D.

So what is it that keeps him from achieving the next evolutionary level for a NBA big man ? I’m curious to see what the Defenders think on this one seriously. Is it laziness, bball IQ, motivation, development ? I keep beating my brains out thinking about this one but can’t put my finger on why he refuses to play big and defend.

But isn’t that what separates Curry (Stank Ass and all) from Shaq?

I mean I read somewhere here that he was compared to Shaq and part of the emphasis was on his up size.

But the distance between Shaq and Curry is that Shaq even at his advanced age is still hungry for what a baller should strive for, a Championship, and to be a contributor on such a team.

Curry on the other is hungry, for about 30 McDonald’s whoppers. But that’s the limit of his hunger, he won’t adapt, adjust, tweak his game to accomodate the team. We all can talk shyt about z-Bo being the black hole but he had about 4 assist the other game, and he isn’t a shot blocker nor has the hops of Curry but he finds a way to contribute, and he appears to be working on adapting his game. Curry isn’t or is it that Curry won’t? If he won’t then that’s either selfish or unmotivated, is Shaq the same at this junc
