Knicks at Sixers
February 20, 2008 – 4:33 pmCheck out the picture of Eddy Curry on the Knicks home page and tell me, that was the best they could do? That photo is very harsh.
The five guys that played outstanding team basketball last night: Nate Robinson, Jamal Crawford, Zach Randolph, Quentin Richardson (keep it up!), David Lee. that sounds like a starting five in the east to me, but with Eddy Curry reportedly on the market, look for Lee to continue to come off the bench since his production is basically independent of starting or coming off the bench.
Apparently nothing more happened between Nate and Zach after the drink/towel-throwing incident on the bench–winning can have that healing effect on a team.
I think Zach is starting to play better defense. He’s not going to block many shots, but he’s at least staying with his man and sometimes even forcing steals. Now if the knicks could just improve their zone… I won’t say it. There are 29 games left to play, and the Knicks are 16-37. just take it one game at a time.

don’t let anyone erode confidence in your leads, KD. this is just a fan site, you’re not a pro site lookin to snag a pulitzer. the idea and/or sentiment is the thing; there’s never any spelling mistakes — good e-frickin-nuff

Spurs Closing In On Artest?
February 20, 2008 - 4:59 pm
Sacramento Bee -
According to the Sacramento Bee the Spurs are closing in on a deal for Ron Artest.
The Spurs would send the expiring contracts of Francisco Elson and Brent Barry for Artest and possibly include a draft pick.
It is also believed, however, that Denver may be ready to part ways with Linas Kleiza for Artest.
Houston also reportedly had conversations with the Kings about Artest
By DaVonn Obama Jefferson on Feb 20, 2008 at 6:30 pm
Hey DLT
I checked out the Linkc KnicksD provided regarding the Spurs play to land Artest.
Seems that at this junctute Artest is staying in Sacramento.

Finley
Artest
Duncan
Oberto
Not bad Pop!!!
Manu off the pine!!!
That might be just as good if not better than all the other teams in the West.
Why doesn’t the Spurs GM ever get executive of the year?
I don’t even know who their GM is.
They make ALL the right moves!!!!!
By DaVonn Obama Jefferson on Feb 20, 2008 at 6:32 pm
Artest had an incredible game last night so that didn’t hurt his chances of being shipped.
He totally shut down Roy last night in Portland and he was unstoppable on the offensive
side of the ball.

Hey KnickD
Nice to see you keep your head above the fray.
In every story where there are two or more sides the truth is muddled somewhere in between.
Yeah… I get a sense that you might mistake some gold ol fashion ribbing amongst bloggers for more than that -e.g., Lives, BARF, Peace. But some people stoke fires more than necessary for what reason I don’t know.
Would I like to have my IP and email posted. Probrably not.
Do I get the vibe that STATESMAN at times takes passive agressive slides at people who disagree? Perhaps!
But this blog is a challenging place to grow as a knicksfan and a basketball fan so I take the good with the bad.
Heck I had one of the Force MDs call me Opie when I was in my Opaque and Bruised phase.
Oh well,… all in good fun, nothing personal.
Keep on keeping on, but always with a good healthy grain of salt.
Lets Go Knicks!
By Orange and Blue on Feb 20, 2008 at 6:35 pm
Hey I think African has it right after all!
But for different reason.
If Patrick “superhold hair gel dripping like straight out of the 80s” Riley gets some info on trades and prospects from blog sites. Then I suggest lets butter Curry’s up on this site.
From my perspective Curry is the most dominant big man in the game to today.
His sheer mass and girth!
How he powers to the hole of a Dunkin Donught!
How his buttocks lead the league in hard wood burns from having his ass polish the pine!
He can’t be stopped when he gathers momentum on his way to a McDonalds!
He is otherworldy in his ability to stink up a joint!
Curry for President!
By Orange and Blue on Feb 20, 2008 at 6:40 pm
I think all that is just some family bickering.
You guys will get over it and we’ll be back to posting

Don’t let the Knicks make the playoffs….it’ll be on then!!!!
I see it like this…..
This is Knicksdefense’s blog. He makes the rules….
He told Peaceman to chill out on using a certain word
that offended some people (not me)…the point is this.
Peaceman respected it and we haven’t heard about it since.
Is Statesman entitled to his own opinion? OF COURSE HE IS!!
He has a right to be mad about his IP address being posted…I would be to.
By the way Starbury…why did you post his IP?
We’re all family!!!!
Go outside to fight then come back in for dinner LOL.

Knicks down by 9.
Sixers are playing their game, points on the break of long bounds, and they are hitting the wide open threes the Knicks give up to every opponent.
By Orange and Blue on Feb 20, 2008 at 7:18 pm
Curry doesn’t show any energy beyond the initial battle for a loose ball. He just settles and other teams get the bound off of his unmotivated ass.
By Orange and Blue on Feb 20, 2008 at 7:19 pm
why’d they only sign mo cheeks to a 1-year extension?
because larry brown is waiting to take his job.
that 1-year is still more then they ever gave the loyal soldier herb williams.
early on, curry is productive early, zach, not so much.
crawford just made a great shot on a great pass by zach.
By knicksdefense on Feb 20, 2008 at 7:22 pm
Q seems to be forcing the threes but its’s not working so far.
Perhaps he is thinking his good shooting will carry over to tonight.
Not the case thus far. Sixers are back up by 9.

dalembert knows exactly how to block curry’s shots, i’ve seen that too many times.
some very weird lineup shuffling going on today after the great chemistry yesterday with entirely different people.

Man, Dalembert got his hand on top of the basketball on that rolling drive bu Curry and almost pushed ten inches through the floor. He kept pushing down even after Curry landed, and Eddy’s knees kind of buckled. Somebody book Tony Robbins to talk with Eddy this offseason. He needs his confidence shored up.

finally a lineup that i recognize.
it took this long to get it.
By knicksdefense on Feb 20, 2008 at 7:47 pm
STATESMAN - backatcha’ bro. At least we’re both Knicks fans, and as such, may provide each other with a moment or two of reading pleasure on one blog or another.
Ugh, we need to stop running plays to get spot-up threes from Fred Jones. The Sixers have a squad of young’ins playing now with greybeard Kevin Ollie, and their activity and length are making the Knicks real passive at both ends of the floor.
Congrats to Mo Cheeks on getting his extension. i can’t say he has done much with his time in Philly, but he looks smooth and unflappable on the sidelines, Iguodala isn’t campaigning against him, and plus he helped that white girl sing the national anthem that time.
Isiah going with the big lineup again. Let’s make them match up with us, i guess.

By Syd on Feb 20, 2008 at 7:51 pm
DLT, did you see the first two times the knicks played the sixers this season? That kind of game. bad passes, getting beat down the floor, weird lineups, and the other team has more focus and energy.
By knicksdefense on Feb 20, 2008 at 7:51 pm
Curry is showing something
By Syd on Feb 20, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Crawford is such a queen on defense. i guess if he really exerted himself, his mascara would run? He just got ripped by Rodney Carney, but had two steps on him while Carney transitioned. The other eight were behind, so carney was gonna take it coast-to-coast. Jamal just doesn’t even try to jump and contest the shot, much less angrily try to break the arm of the guy who just picked his dribble.
J-Chuck with a high arcing mistake. I have long been of the thought that the four pillars of rebuilding are Nate, Craw, Lee & Balkman. i may be wrong there.
Iguodala just ripped another steal and unleashed another vicious dunk in transition. Curry blew a dunk on the other end. Whoa, just an all-around bad first half.
By PaulNoize on Feb 20, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Seems like the Knicks don’t match up well with the Sixers.
By Orange and Blue on Feb 20, 2008 at 7:58 pm
Flagrant foul time next time a Sixer goes in for a dunk or uncontested layup.
I don’t care if the result is career ending!
Fuck it!
By Orange and Blue on Feb 20, 2008 at 7:58 pm
Cunning Zach got a beautiful pass in the post, but his deft footwork stumbled with the flailing, flying, fancyfree Sixers swarming above and around the rim. traveling on z-bo.
Yeah, KD nailed it. Knicks are scared, they just want this game over already. Crawford dreads brings the ball up and initiating the offense because the ball pressure is intense at both ends.

i hear you, O&B. What ever happened to the “message” foul? So you pick up a game or two suspension.
Knicks have given up 32 fast break points in THIS HALF. Sixer announcers are killing Zach & Eddy for not running back on “D”.
By PaulNoize on Feb 20, 2008 at 8:03 pm
Yeah Syd….they are tired.
Steve Mix just said one of the Knicks’ perimeter guys need to challenge Eddy & Zach, ask ‘em “Hey, are you guys gonna run back anytime tonight? Cuz the three of us can’t handle these five guys by ourselves!”
Course, a wise-alecky comment like that is probably grounds to stamp your foot and throw a cup of water at someone.

Haha DLT, we can rule out THAT excuse since they are both on record this season as saying they wouldn’t mind being traded out of NY. Clearly, neither one is very happy nor optimistic at this point.
Even Balkman looked sluggish and a step slow out there. Sixers might also be energized about the extension for Coach Cheeks, who knows? The silver lining is that this game is so out of hand that Zeke might try some creativity in the second half, shake things up a little bit. i want more of JEROME JAMES, NBA STARTING POWER FORWARD!

when is the last time randolph morris, or wilson chandler, or big snaxx got more than four minutes of PT? even in a very large blowout such as this one, I doubt they’ll get to double-figures in minutes.
that’s how mardy’s career got jacked. as a rookie last year, he rotted on the bench for the entire season and then all of a sudden was playing 38 NBA minutes a night during the last month of the season. he had to have secret knee surgery once the season was over, and hasn’t been the same player so far coming back from it.

Oh Gentlemen, I recommend that you pick up or visit the bookstores to read the current edition of ESPN the magazine. There is an interesting piece regarding the racial perception of fans regarding the NBA. There is a great article on Stephen Jackson who has a very engaging story. I like his game. I cna see why he and Artest on the same team was intimidating as hell. Walsh was very upset about trading Jackson, but the fan pressure was too great. Jackson seems like quite a guy. Actually, what i liked was a cutaway shot of Balkman sheepishly laughing while on his duff for a sec, ruefully shaking his head in the manner of a man who had a few too many last night, or was up till all hours of the morning with some strange, or who frankly just wasn’t quite focusing for a minute and screwed up, very publicly.
The nice thing was that it had a aspect of surprise to it, of foreignness, like he is not used to letting himself down. He then bounced up and grinned wolfishly and i think to myself - yet again - this guy is the key to the turnaround, he will improve MUCH faster if we play him in real NBA games, we have pissed away his development largely through Isiah panicking and giving the MLE to Jared Jeffries (i am still chuckling at the “giraffe on rollerskates” description of JJ, thanks to the OP, whoever that was).

Why do i picture Peaceman in a Contintenal library, relaxing with a tiny porcelain cuppa tea in a casual grip, saying to his disapproving host, “Knigge? Please….”

tough loss. I thought we figured out how to beat this team but it turns out the one time we did beat them was a fluke. if it is a matter of them being tired from the OT last night, conditioning should not be a concern for this team 50 games into the season. the sixers also played last night…
just take it one game at a time. like syd said next game is friday. chandler did get to play a little.
watching the kansas state versus nebraska game right now.
not much happening so far, beasley is just starting to get going. he’s not impressing me the way that kevin durant impressed me this time last year. that guy was a force in college. maybe beasley will turn it on. he had 35 and 12 against this same team in november.

Hey Bronx, LMAO. If you buy the first round, I’ll let you convince me why “Opie” was appropriate for OB. But since I consider both you and O&B my boys, I’ll leave it alone after I buy the next two rounds. By then Opie won’t look so bad. You could have called him “Aunt Bee.” Plus didn’t Opie win a couple of Oscars and make that classic movie “Cocoon.”
Shoot. I’m checkin’ my schedule and I see that we’re not in DC anymore this year. I wish they would sneak into the playoffs, but it is extremely unlikely that they would ever see the Wizards even if both made it. So I guess I’ll have to check out the Force MDs at some other event.
Hey Steady, are you suggesting that they played like somebody is being traded tomorrow?

paulnoize, that sounds like an interesting project, let me know if you decide to make it.

Knicks really gotta learn to make their teammates better..they don’t move the ball enough.
By Syd on Feb 20, 2008 at 9:40 pm
Funny….Cheeks get an extension, and his team plays inspired ball….
Zeke gets an extension, and we lose 9 of the next 11….
Go figure…
Concur with post 105….this game had a strange feel from the beginning. Example….
At the point he would’ve taken Curry out for his uninspired play, he kept him in as if to illustrate the rationale behind his decision to sit him.
Don’t get me wrong..I’m not pinning this solely on Curry..that was just one example of the weirdness.
Tonite’s performance was a total team effort, or lack thereof.

haha - Shaq just juked three guys off the line on a free throw - this immediately after having a lane violation called on his free throw!
Hubie Brown with some good commentary on Raja Bell’s defense, that he plays very physical defense and challenges the refs on a nightly basis to call the fouls - and by extension, to call the fouls on both ends with relatively equal bias.
i been calling on Isiah to initiate a similar campaign on behalf of Eddy Curry & calls in the paint. Clearly Eddy, as an individual, has had a disproportionately HUGE NUMBER of bad calls on both ends of the floor this season, both home and away. Some significant minority percentage of his dropoff this season is attributable to this referee bias (not that i am endorsing the more extreme “O & B” method of evaluating refs, just sayin’), a fact that is rarely weighed during vitriolic anti-Eddy posts here on KD.
The thing is, if Isiah is permitted the freedom to MARKET things, presumably in a less restrictive work environment with looser MEDIA POLICIES, he could probably get a little story spun on ESPN, maybe even design a little graphic with room for updating stats for how many times Curry has fouled out in the first half, surrounded by alternating videos - call and response - showing Curry picking up ticky-tack fouls on one end, but getting mauled on the other on a very similar looking play with no foul called.
Such a campaign, even if shortlived, would likely integrate itself into the following season’s annual referee review process, and i suspect every call against Curry would be analyzed, and aggregate reports drawn. i think those reports would have pithy, straightforward recommendations. Maybe it’s only laying groundwork for the next man at this point, but Isiah needs to do this for the good of the franchise and the good of the kid.
This of course has to be coupled with shared promises between Isiah and Eddy that Eddy will play heavy minutes. Would such a promise earn any kind of additional commitment from “the Kid”? Any level of physical effort that Zeke hasn’t touched yet?

Is Isiah fired yet?

Steven A Smith just said to put the Carter and the 3 team proposal to bed.
He said he spoke with Thorn this afternoon and he said
“we haven’t even spoke to those teams”
Is that a lie?
Wasn’t it reported that there were discussions involving Zach and Carter?
I know for sure the Net’s have spoke to the Nets recently as every team or
almost every team has spoke to each other.
Wow….these guys lie right to the media’s face LOL.
I guess that’s what you got to do.
Great game for us tonight. Keep getting closer to that good draft position.
I’m watching Beasley now also knicksdefense.

I meant to say I’m sure the Nets have spoke to the Knicks.

Checking out Ron Artest. He just battled Al Horford for a rebound, ripped Acie Law and shot a 3-pointer. Not too many guys in the NBA can do that.
Give up Lee dammit!!!!!!!!!!!!!

are the knicks trying out for the CBA?
oh i forgot, ‘u know who’ ran the CBA to the ground.
D-league Finals here we come

Ron just ripped Joe Johnson.
By HarleminMD on Feb 20, 2008 at 11:04 pm
I have no idea if the knicks are serious about making any trades before tomorrow’s deadline, but I’m going to make a guess that if somebody does get moved tomorrow it would be Curry or Lee. Probably nothing is going to happen though.
Just bloggin’

Are you gettin’ in the truck or what?

Lives,
The Force MDs may make a special encore performance sans Bball. There’s an interesting debate/conference being organized at one of the flagship HBCUs to discuss the need to maintain/fund the HBCUs in the future. A couple of the MDs are proud graduates of the nation’s HBCU system and are invited to attend and to share their knowledge with the audience. If that activity strikes your fancy (though the HBCUs are mostly below the Mason-Dixon line), we can make sure you get the memo/script.
And yes, from my perspective, all the boys played with pre-trade jitters. Hell, this was a game in which IT should have begged an ejection early and pass the stick to Herb. Those tricks are reserved for the old school types (Nellie, Sloan, Riley, Knight, JVG).

Defense is just bloggin. Isiah’s just chucklin. Thomas is the enemy of Knicks fans.
He’s too lazy and unintelligent to accomplish anything, so he’s just loving force-feeding this to New York fans. Up the wrong hole.
He knows he’ll never have any success, so what the hell? He’ll settle for notoriety.

Steady,
The HBCU event might be something I can handle as a day trip. I love multi-tasking so the trip would serve several wonderful purposes for me, the most significant of which is to check you guys out. However, I have a very strong community and familial connection to the HCBU’s as my father was a Morehouse man, Mom attended Alcorn, my an aunt starred at Spelman, one of my Brothers graduated from Howard and a couple of my sisters blessed Fisk and Wilberforce. (Additionally, most of my High School friends were directed to Grambling and my interns have included a couple of Hampton Grads). And my life continues to be blessed by the HCBU’s, so one might say I am KNEE-DEEP in the history and system. Plus, if circumstances permit, I might turn it into a weekend family road trip since we have plenty of other friends in the area who deserve my wife’s and my personal attention. So give me a date or two. I will contact you offline, so we can make it happen. I look forward to it.

Hmmmmm, Boston losses 2 in a row. Veryyy, interesting.
Toronto beat up on Orlando. Are we next?
We dropped a game behind Philly and Jersey. We’re now at 8 back and fading.
Toronto wants both of these wins so they can avoid Cleveland in the first round. They would most certainly prefer Arenas and Jamison in the playoffs.
Philly is faking the funk, but with that kind of youth, they may overachieve. Marcus Williams wants the job and Thorn wanted to give it to him since last year. Devin Harris is a very nice addition, but why do I feel like he will not be a Net for very long. Maybe a Harris/Williams backcourt is a fantastic and scary combination. Maybe.
Wow, the Knicks look like Starbury was back in the vicinity. (LOL)(Hahaha).
By Lives In New Jersey, Loves New York on Feb 21, 2008 at 3:45 am
Funny to see that the Spurs probably could’ve had Artest rather than Kurt Thomas for the same package of expiring contracts and a first round pick that pried Kurt loose. They chose Kurt over Ron Ron, and they must be right because they have won multiple championships. That boggles my mind.
