MLK game: Celtics at Knicks

by knicksdefense on January 21, 2008

Game time 1pm.

What better way to honor the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., than with a victory over the Celtics–and don’t tell me I have a dream, we can beat this team if we show heart and play smart.

Expert Frank Isola was on NBATV tonight sounding much like Lives saying the team has turned a corner. He said that he expects the Knicks to put up a good fight tomorrow (still Isola said the C’s would win, but who wouldn’t on national TV?). He did that very same kind of backpedaling at this time before, didn’t he? “I always thought this would be a playoff team,” was the exact quote during the 6-game streak if I recall correctly. Isola the jellyfish fence-straddler needs to just pick a side and quit calling loyal Knick fans everywhere “male groupies.”

I missed that Nate Robinson dunk in the first half of the Miami game, fortunately Alan Hahn found the video on youtube, check out Knicks Fix if you wish to revisit the footage. Somebody please tell nate if he uses his supreme talent to focus on defense he’ll have plenty of opportunities for more dunks in the game. Anticipate passes, read the passing lanes, he’s been studying Steve Nash tapes to become a better playmaker and that’s great, but he should supplement that with some Muggsy Bogues tapes if he has the time. Anyway, Nate has been doing a great job lately so I’m happy for him.

That’s two dunks for Nate in Miami thus far in his career. Does Nate even have a shoe sponsor yet? Would Steve and Barry’s possibly be interested?

One Thing about this 07/08 Celtics team, they play good defense, block shots, deflections, help D, etc…. Our Knicks today must move the ball effortlessly, be conscious of making the extra pass and break the defense down for easy baskets especially in the paint. Offensively we must control the clock, take high percentage shots, make the Celtics work even harder at the defensive end. Boston loves their big guns hanging on the perimeter to hit the open 3 every chance they get in their transition game….. It’s their bread and butter; It allows them to run up the score quickly in their favor. Knicks cannnot allow this, We must not get caught up in the run and gun style of todays opponent by taking quick baskets early in the clock. Control, team play and aggressive defense, will get us our ‘W’.

Good AM Dee-fenders

4 of 5 are ready for more.

Go Knicks!

5 Peaceman January 21, 2008 at 10:29 am

Todays game is on NBC Nationally! You know the Celtics
are gonna be show boating! That’s fine because “We ain’t afraid of no ghost.” lol

Today the Knicks can quiet a lot of haters, gain some respect around the league
by a big win today! We know Zach, Craw, NATE and Q are not afraid of anyone, so
the question is what Curry will show up today? If Curry has his best game for the
Knicks on both ends we will shock the NBA! KG can’t stop Curry if Curry sets his mind to
getting dunks in the paint, he can foul out KG! Curry can block shots if he sets his mind to
it! Curry should be hell bent to alter and Block more shots than any game in his entire career!
This is OUR house and this is not your Marbury’s Knicks! Lets do this NY!!!!!

I’m working today and would love a final score.
GO KNICKS!!

To this point I don’t think we’ve talked about the role of the agents in our lack of team play early on. In NYC, if you are a legit star on almost any team the city will love you, and endorsement money will rain on your head as if Pac Man himself were throwing it. So it does make me wonder with all the trade whisperings and newshounds looking for anything and everything, why have there been no agent quotes, demands for trades or press conferences. They have been conspicuously quiet and it’s not in the nature of most agents to be quiet.

So I’m sitting here wondering who are the agents for these guys and were they in the background telling Eddy to not get hurt or to overexert himself so he doesn’t mess up the cash flow by dying? Was Zach’s agent telling him that if he’s “the man” in NY he can write his own check? Could greed be the reason he wouldn’t pass out of double and triple teams early on? What does Balkman’s agent say when he gets tucked away for weeks with no game time and no explanation? Wilson Chandler and Randolph Morris’ agents have to be pissed, but no comments. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to wake them up or stir up trouble, but I wonder if any of that has come into play this season.

@Peaceman,

Now that scares me,expecting that CURRY man-up.We may have just as good a chance with JJames.lol

One of Boston’s weak spot is the center. But,watch Perkins and Big Baby outplay Curry.

Let’s hope Jamal is hot.

9 Peaceman January 21, 2008 at 11:21 am

@ DLT

I know it’s a stretch, but if Zach can LISTEN and pass out of the double
team then Curry can be told to put all his energy on the defensive end and LISTEN!
That’s all we need from Curry is to be a force on the defense! Times have changed and Curry has seen
the route Marbury has gone, Curry will have to change or take the same route as Marbury!

10 Peaceman January 21, 2008 at 11:27 am

One big point I want to make and I hope every Knick
feels the same exact way! Fuck Boston! LOL

11 Black and Blue January 21, 2008 at 11:33 am

13 Jay Bee January 21, 2008 at 12:04 pm

Lets Go Knicks!!! Fake fans be damned!! Knicksdefense is the site for the “real” Knicks fans. Not the ones that call press conferences. The ones that say lets win a game that no one says we can win. LGTWs!!

14 Jay Bee January 21, 2008 at 12:14 pm

LGTWs = Let’s Get Them Ws – Zach Randolph

15 MODI January 21, 2008 at 12:16 pm

I’m with Peace and Jay Bee!

anyway here is a REPOST from yesterday as I really want cooley to know where he stands with me:

————————————-

What’s up all. Apologies for the delay on this post which I really should have done Friday evening. In no prarticular order:

– Cooleyhigh is a G-O-D! Friday night’s game against the Wiz was an enjoyable experience despite the loss. How close to the court were the seats? Close enough to high five all the Knicks as they left the bench to go into the tunnel. How close? I swore that I smelled a fart from Jerome James! How close? If Bronxboy didn’t bail out, he could have reached around and given Jamal that handjob he has been dreaming about! How close? Those were the best seats I had since I saw X-Man (Sonics version) drop 40 on the Knicks back in the day. I also remember that Rory Sparrow nailed a shot at the buzzer to send the game into OT.

– Too bad that Cooley wasn’t actually there. He was missed. But I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed the company of Steady and HarlemMD. So much so that I actually missed a lot of plays because I was engaged in prime Knicks convo combined with interesting non-basketball stuff!

– I thought that HarlemMD was a doctor. Turns out that he just lives in Maryland like me! Okay, from now on I’m ModiMD! HOWEVER, he was dropping enough Knick knowledge that his PhD was well-deserved.

– I still don’t understand Isiah’s coaching to the point where I might file a lawsuit for emotional damages… and only because of his coaching I do not anticipate continued success this year despite the last 4 games. The Miami game could easily have been a blowout win instead of a nail biter. From a developmental point of view the only exciting right now is the growth of Nate Robinson… besides that — nothing.

– Did I mention that cooley is a G-O-D?

16 Jay Bee January 21, 2008 at 12:32 pm

Curry get your hands up and challenge the shot!! (I’m just practicing for game time.)

17 Steady January 21, 2008 at 12:34 pm

NY, NY
Kings of the F’n Hill.
Always gotta get up against Boston–In memory/honor of Crispus Attikus.

18 Black and Blue January 21, 2008 at 12:40 pm

Take back your pride New York!

Fuck Boston!

The Boston-New England area signed a deal with the Devil.

19 Jay Bee January 21, 2008 at 12:42 pm

Zeke should be playing that first game for motivation. Breaking it down showing the lack of effort. Make the guys own up to what they did wrong. Challenge the guys to play like men. To fight like men. To win like men. Losing is not an option.

This is the fuk’n playoffs. There is no tomorrow. You leave it all on the floor for as long as you have it and trust that if you run out that your teammates have your back.

No free trips through the lane. No uncontested threes. Play tough hard D and this game will be ours.

20 Black and Blue January 21, 2008 at 12:47 pm

Jay Bee

“No free trips through the lane. No uncontested threes. Play tough hard D and this game will be ours.”

Wholeheartedly agree.

Today no Blood no Foul!

27 Peaceman January 21, 2008 at 1:07 pm

29 Peaceman January 21, 2008 at 1:10 pm

Needless to say I would of been opposite of James Farmer

34 Black and Blue January 21, 2008 at 1:18 pm

Perkins is their non name taking advantage today.

35 Syd January 21, 2008 at 1:20 pm

Eddie Curry …damn dude play some ‘D’.

36 Black and Blue January 21, 2008 at 1:21 pm

The last time it was Rondo feeding off of the big three

Now its Perkins.

Frustrating to no end!

37 Charles Follymacher January 21, 2008 at 1:21 pm

oh man, career high by perkins comin up…sheesh! zeke better figure it out this time out… (any suggestions brain trust?)

38 Jay Bee January 21, 2008 at 1:22 pm

TO early 17-1O Celts .

39 Peaceman January 21, 2008 at 1:22 pm

Good time out! The knicks are playing tight!
Settle down and lets play!

40 Black and Blue January 21, 2008 at 1:23 pm

If Curry battled for the loose ball, like he hits up the local McDonalds, his bounds would go and the team would get more rebounds overall.

But what does he do?

He stands there when there bounds to be had.

What a turd!

41 maestro January 21, 2008 at 1:26 pm

Curry is a disgrace, get that fat idiot out of the game.

42 Charles Follymacher January 21, 2008 at 1:26 pm

zeke switched zbo to guard perkins instead of curry…

43 maestro January 21, 2008 at 1:27 pm

And out of New York. Buy him out, do whatever it takes. GET HIM THE HELL OUT OF HERE.

44 Peaceman January 21, 2008 at 1:28 pm

Good play by our bench!

45 Peaceman January 21, 2008 at 1:29 pm

Rondo’s open layup was Lee slacking!

46 BARF January 21, 2008 at 1:29 pm

Nate, JJeff and DLee in and things start coming together for the Knicks.

The ball movement is nowhere near where its been in the last few games

Afternoon games on NBC must bring out the beast in the starting five. Isiah is merciless in pulling them though. Thats a bright spot.

47 Steady January 21, 2008 at 1:30 pm

Lives,
From the last thread, those were some significantly useful words there about DEFINITIONS. Very useful. On the human level, it is about IDENTITY. We define our identity. Thus, I often refute the “we are what our records say we are” bunk often repeated here. As an almost 50-year-old, I see your throwback tendencies, no lay-ups from the middle, no coveting OTPs, you know what’s good.

KFLL

48 maestro January 21, 2008 at 1:31 pm

A good defensive center on this team and we could do some damage.

49 Black and Blue January 21, 2008 at 1:31 pm

Defense playing better now that the lead footed Curry is off and to the pine.

MODI is right we haven’t turned all corners yet. Lives theory that one corner has been turned ok.

But untill Zeke puts his best team out there then we will always be held back.

50 Charles Follymacher January 21, 2008 at 1:31 pm

they can start chipping away at the celtics lead…have to start bangin guys a lil more on D (yes, risk some fouls)…can’t afford to trade baskets now
