Knicks@Wizards
January 18, 2008 – 2:14 amHey, regardless of exactly why, the knicks are winning so let’s keep the ball rolling New York and learn how to win one on the road. In time, we’ll know the exact reasons why we’ve had three solid wins against top teams, because we’ll either keep winning, or revert back to what we’ve been doing for the majority of the season.
You know Caron and company are going to come out strong, because we just beat them, so lets see good continuity from tip-off to the final buzzer.
Force MD’s, please represent our Knicks defense brotherhood with orange and blue colors in D.C. and I’ll do my best to do the same from the pub down the street. Who knows, in time maybe we’ll have our defenders in every NBA city showing up at game time, I know there are truly knicks fans everywhere.
So Stephon’s having surgery. Good luck to you, Steph. Looks like Isiah’s sustained, season-long effort to paint you as the scapegoat for this team’s struggles is nearing consensus, but I’m not buying it. Truth is, he is just now playing the guys that SHOULD have been getting burn all season long. That’s a conspiracy to me. MSM asked Isiah why Balk didn’t play for six weeks and Isiah made up some fake crap up that Balk didn’t even understand when they asked him about it. Quite frankly, Isiah is more Machiavellian than some of the dudes running in the primaries right now. Hope you prove them wrong Steph while the knicks keep this winning thing going. However, if it turns out down the road that the knicks can’t win with you, it will be time for you to go. But we’re not there yet in my eyes because I can’t even remember a time when you and Balk were on the court together, let alone you, Nate and Balk.
Anyone heard anything about the injury Jeffries sustained last game against the Nets?
In keeping with DVJ’s reverse prediction trends, I’m going to change things up and hope that Chandler DOES NOT play tonight, and see if that makes a difference.

WOW Starburyfan…I mean Knicksdefense—that is the most powerful and controversial I’ve read from you in a long time. Saying
Zeke using Marbury as a scapegoat and Machiavellian tactics.
Not playing Nate, Bulk, and Marbury together leans itself to some Larry Brown tanking the season type stuff. I don’t know.
Sounds like some strong accusations right there…and perhaps opening up a can of worms if MSM get hold on to this Introductory
Post from you.
Thought provoking stuff this early morning, though.
And as I think Steady would say—-”Useful”
Did I mention I’m the First Poster—-Eat Your Heart Out Knicks’ Defenders!!!—and represent Force MDs at the game tonight. Throw

Oh, one more thing, when in a DC jail cell, you never heard of me, or what I wrote.

George M thanks for your last post#49 WriteOn, “bruh”! (as Bronx n Md likes to say!)
Now with those latest trade mentions—imagine if the Cavaliers got Jamal—Lebron and Jamal together—what a dynamic scoring
duo. Would be something to watch, I tell you that. Jamal’s passing allyhoop to Lebron on a consistant bases-that would
be sick!!!
But it won’t happen—Zeke’s not stupid—Hughes for Jamal is a deal crusher. Maybe Lebron for Jamal then you going somewhere
with that trade.

anti-
sorry I should have wrote, just bloggin’. i know i’ll probably take heat for that post but i have to say the timing of the rotation changes looks more than coincidental to me. q’s playing great lately, but balk should have been in there MONTHS ago. same thing with Nate. the first time steph went awol did nate get the start? or was it a less impressive Jones?
just like you or african or Lives or STATESMAN i have my own interpretation of things that are going down. i don’t know zeke or any insiders with the knicks or MSM so i can’t say he’s definitely doing this or doing that.
all i can say is how it seems to me as a fan who watches every game.
but they’re winning now so all is well. i just wanted to point out that steph might not be the ONLY reason the knicks were terrible in November and December, although I definitely think his attitude contributed to the frequent losing.
Nate and Crawford seem like prime candidates for the leadership role that stephon hasn’t been able to handle and Malik can’t exemplify from the end of the bench. it has to be the players with 30+ mpg and looks to me like the seattle backcourt deserves those minutes now with this recent improved TEAM chemistry.

sorry anti wanted to add just bloggin’ before i get jumped.
hey, the knicks win today and they’re playing .500 ball in January! realistically, however, that will not be enough for any kind of a playoff push, they have to raise the bar while continuing to move the ball, take care of the ball, and take good shots (except for crawford when he’s going, he can take whatever and have a shot).
right now reminds me of the team from last season during the same stretch before people started dropping like flies due to injuries. jeffries better get healthy.
i wonder if both zach and eddy will still be here after the deadline. zach has been in a lot of rumors lately, but i wonder if that indicates that Eddy will be the one to go because Isiah would like people to think he’s off limits.
again, just bloggin.
LGK!

ENCORE POST PRESENTATION POST #457:
Had to get some work done today. Missed out on some spirited discussions. No need to take sides there were valid points made in many directions. So I think the side I will take is civility. Our opinions are what make this blog go. So to shoot anyone down as crazy for thinking in a way that may be upstream of where others are can be construed as disrespectful and breaks down communication more than it promotes it. Be good to your brothers and respect their opinions as their own even if it is in stark contradiction to your way of thinking. My opinions are my own and I will defend them fiercely. Because to attack the individual is still an attack and when you’re attacked you defend, retreat or attack back.
There was a lot of back and forth regarding being right or seeing things clearly. I know that the tempers here are temporary, but I would hate to see the relationships being forged here damaged over whether Eddy can rebound or whether Crawford should come off of the bench. Awright awright I can already hear the “f ewe’s” coming. So as grandma used to say, “You kids play nice.”
All that being said, trolls are fair game and their opinions are not their own so it is both logical and rational to rip their azzes for coming in here talking their stupid troll shi+.

in terms of “should the knicks tank games” or “should the knicks fight for the playoffs” I’d have to vote for fight for the former because we said at the begging of the preseason that anything besides the playoffs would be a major disappointment.
the east isn’t that strong once again, and the remaining games in january should be indicative of whether this knicks team has it in them to get an eight seed or a 7th seed (pistons! triple over time last year, beat them once this year).
also, isiah’s drafting ability doesn’t seem to depend on position. the highest pick he ever took for us was channing, but when you look at some of the guys he has taken with significantly lower picks, your Balkmans, Lees, Arizas, and Robinsons, well, those guys have done well thus far while Channing was sent packing for being “too soft.” I wonder if he would have still been considered soft if nate didn’t mistakenly blow out channing’s knee.
however a high pick this year would be well-spent on getting a two-way player instead of the common knick player, either a talented scorer without defensive aggression or a defensive specialist who can’t shoot a lick from the field.

Defenders, Marbury is sitting for the season. We knew it here first, before the MSM.
WIth a combination of inside information and fanatic savvy, it was clear to us that Marbury was on his way out, at least temporarily.
One reason we knew this is that we now understand the general rule for forecasting major Knick Personnel moves, under the Dolan administration, is that “Marketing Moves Proceed Personnel Moves.” For the Dolan, Mills and Thomas team, the Knicks are a product and they tend to telegraph their moves in cryptic statements and actions which the press consistently fail to interpret accurately.
I would suggest, in retrospect, that over the past couple of days Isiah has been advising us of his strategy regarding Stephon. Stephon has also been informing us (as Peace pointed out) that his people and their people have come to a temporary meeting of the minds regarding Stephon’s role with the Knicks. It appears that strategy involves using Marbury’s expiring contract to get under the cap. I guess if they ever intend to trade him, it would need to be for a high quality return or another expiring contract. I would need to do more research to be more specific, but I think the general strategy is clear from their statements.
Side note: The Knicks seem to move a little slower in making adjustments on their website before major personnel moves. For example, the title streamer still runs Stephon Marbury and has not changed to include Zach Randolph.

Another side note: They have been promoting Jamal Crawford quite a bit, so despite the trade rumors, it is highly, highly unlikely that Crawford is going anywhere for anybody but Kobe or LeBron.
DVJ, are we going to be financially able to pick up LeBron when he hits the market?

good stuff Poppin Scosci, thanks for posting those.
from the hollinger article,
“in the meantime, his [steph's] absence seems to have ironed out a lot of problems for the Knicks. Suddenly there’s one less player who needs the ball, and more minutes for Nate Robinson to do his thing off the pine. And lo and behold, we’ve even had a Renaldo Balkman sighting! It appears Isiah has finally remembered what a game-changing energizer the second-year forward can be, now that the playing rotation has room for him again.”
Steph or Nate playing has little bearing on whether balkman, lee or jeffries sees any action off the bench. a more logical argument it seems to me, is isiah’s (in)decision to sit Malik’s ass down, sit Q if he misses his first four and put renaldo in. balkman’s not a guard, he’s a forward. again, steph hasn’t helped the knicks chances this year, far from it, but isiah’s got most people now believing the knicks would be a playoff team if they just didn’t have this guy marbury ruining it for the knicks all the time.

knicks turn down Artest for Nate and Balkman.
By knicksdefense on Jan 18, 2008
KnicksD
Top of the morning.
I get the impression that Thomas doesn’t like to be accountable for his own mistakes. I also interpreted the way Thomas passed the Buck on the Balkman question by telling reporters to ask Balkman, who had not a clue of Thomas’ suggestion, indicates that Thomas does not want to answer to his own foibles.
I sort of thought that it was that lack of accountability from the GM/Coach, coupled with his preference for the bigger contracts over the hustle players had an effect on the Knicks. I think if their is no accountability at the top, and their is a system in place that does not reward effort, then those are things that lead to failure.
To that end, perhaps, the Knicks have privately aired out their grievances, and now Marbury is on the shelf, Balkman is getting burn, and passing is becoming more of habit amongst the more individual one-on-one players. If so then that’s a good thing.

Nice article on the “General Rule” preceding player personnel change.
KnicksD
Checked out the article from Newsday. The impression I get is that a person has to command the teams favor, respect, and indicate capacity, and poise, Crawford’s measured commentary and carry, to take the leadership slot on the Knicks.
Sadly Marbury, appeared to have the capacity but was no longer showing, or able to show, according to MODI’s theory based on line-ups. However, Marbury failed to carry favor with his teamates b/c of what appears to be his acerbic personality, and Marbury failed to show poise, through the various blow ups with the organization and on TV.
I personally think their is alot of good about Marbury, his charibtable contributions are significant.
But what was needed to provide leadership to the team, Marbury lacked this year.

B&B,
the nice thing about the prospect of the seattle backcourt is that both guys have the potential to be leaders for the team, together in the backcourt. nate can lead with his relentless energy and hustle. crawford can leads through good decision-making.
the next step for them is to lead with defensive intensity.

If Steph is out for the season…..GOOD!He was not helping, only hurting team chemistry.
It seems there are some Knicks with trade value Lee,N8,Crawford,Balkman,Zach(?) and maybe Steph’s contract.
I would have taken the Artest for N8 & Balkman a month ago.BUT now N8 is playing great and if we lose him combined with no Steph, what do we have for guards(please don’t mention Collins) Only Crawford and Jones, this it!
If we did that trade we need to get Bibby or Salmon also.
It will be interesting to see who stays and who goes if anybody in the next month.

Good AM Defenders,
Yes Anti-, you’re absolutely right. I do agree that the Knicksdefense post hung up by Blogzilla is useful. I co-sign on it. I’m also Just Bloggin’. BTW, you should know that Peaceman and Steady are the two cloaked “NYer/Conspiracy Theorists” on this blog–for what it’s worth.
Starburyfan in #12, I too vote for the latter. The fans were promised the playoffs and if you look at the MSG schedule for around the playoff months, you can predict if the NBA script writers will show us favor this year. Lives, are your boys off strike yet? Please advise bruh-man. As a 50+-year-old man, you should know (LOL)
As an example, if the schedule has Jon Bovi Returns or The Jackson Reunion or Show Dog Jumping or Whitaker vs Chavez scheduled for consecutive weekends around the time of the Playoffs, chances are we will be watching the other NB Actors. Case in point, the NYK go on 3-game winning streak, leaves NJ and head to the Force MDs where love is a house. Two weeks prior, RJJ comes to town and participates in NYK practice and gives a pep talk to the fellas. Marketing Lives, right? Then while the boys are in DC, RJJ and Tito rumble the following night in the Mecca–where there is the second largest concentration of Puerto Ricans in the world ready to watch a sports hero–T I T O. What is a BARF to do? Just Bloggin’.
KD, Beyond Machiavellian, IT/Zeke shows disingenuous tendencies and thus the Monty Knick-name I blogged. Then again, we’re all grown ass wo/men and we have come to agree/believe what N.B.A. means with its Lone Rogue Ref. Moreover, as fans, all we can do is wait for the outcomes of what the professionals do. Just so happened that we fans/NYers/Defenders opted to engage here and tell it like it is before it happens. Just Bloggin’.
Poppin,
There’s room for both you and Syd. I noticed that neither of you post “crotch shots” in our community board for view. Thanks for that. Useful post on the passing of the Chess legend. May his SRIP. Still, there are many would be legends that go by unnoticed in the homeless shelters, City park benches, and in the hood. Consider there is a Negro League of Chess. There will never be another Fischer. We should be mindful in his memory that there are other sources of talent in the chess world. If I continued to volunteer in the nursing home where my momma (SRIP) worked, I probably would have learned the game of wit, brains, strategy, and mental prowess from an old fella. Ya’ll know the rest of the story and the why’s and why nots. Just bloggin’.

FORCEMDS, I wish I was there with you. African and Peace got me thinkin I shoulda just hopped on the train to check you out. My wife says I coulda gone too. Slow you blow. Enjoy and let us know how you do the do.
Tough game tonight gents. I may have a little analysis. Still, this game is very mental and who in the world knows how th Knicks will 1) handle prosperity 2) handle the exhale caused by Marbury’s surgery and 3) handle falling behind in the first few minutes because Zeke refuses to change his starting line-up. Will Jamal take this opportunity to toughen up or will he play comfortably lax because he knows Zeke has no where to go for a sub? He’s been playing 40+ so one would think he is taking this very seriously. Despite the naysayers, this boy can become a real star, at least for a season? Players can get better you know. (I was not calling Eddie “Baby Huey” Curyy a player, yet). Have you heard Zach’s faith in Crawford’s shooting? He sounds like a believer. Will he continue to act like one and pass out of the doble team? Can Q keep hitting shots? And will the Knicks hit freethrows like they did against NJ (I seriously doubt it, but that was a helluva display of accuracy).
Yes Marketing Moves precedes Personnel Moves. After all, this is the NBA.
Washington will be mentally pumped for this game. So Zeke’s management of his rotation and use of the energy guys will be critical.

KnickD,
Great Post. It is good to know that there are DEE-FENDERS that can see through the SHENANIGANS being run by IT/Monty.
Monty’s RAP is so fast that w/ a Blink of the Eye, the Knicks have made the transition from a Guard-Oriented Team, favoring
the Suns, to a Power Low-post Team (dump inside), to a team CURRENTLY built around a 41% Gunslinger(any shot is a good shot).
The face and style of these teams change (Steph,Curry,Craw), but the results remain the same, LOSING. The key is to
get folks on board, and believe that WINNING is just around the corner. There will ALWAYS be a CULPRIT.
The Culprits will change (Wilkens,KThomas,Brown,Francis,Fyre,Steph Randolph), but the results will remain, Losing.
Remember the Architect is not Culpable, and if the Culprits are not acceptable, then let’s BLAME injuries, fans, culture, etc.
The “Future” is the key, w/ a CULPRIT a MUST. What generates excitement among Knicks fans? Trades and Draft position,
But you MUST, ignorE “The Moment”. Remember, we are one trade/draft away from winning. Or, the infamous “wait til next year”.
Shyt, I’m either Crazy, or a Cubs’ fan. Well the Cubs are out of Chicago. Man, Monty, is a Muther….
Peace & Blessings

Hmmm….i reluctantly co-sign on NOT sending N8/Balk for Artest, but make no mistake on this one….
ARTEST WILL NOT SIGN HERE FOR THE MID LEVEL EXCEPTION !!!!!!!!!!
It seems we finally ground Sacto down and got the deal we wanted (i.e. Artest without giving up Lee, picks or taking on ugly contracts)…..except when the Kings finally capitulated and said OK, we pulled back instead of pulling the trigger.
Balkman in a BEST CASE scenario might get close one day to being the player that Artest is.
Nate’s a fifteen minute per night gimmick player on a contending ballclub.
Artest is a proven two-way All-Star.
i think we will regret this decision next season, when Artest is posting 18/7/5/3/2 nightly with good defense, while Nate and Balk are combining for 30 up-and-down minutes per game. Of course, this is probably best for the long haul, like four seasons down the road, because Artest will be old and overpaid by then.
i don’t think we can get LeBron without moving Zach, either (in answer to someone’s question up there). Sure, Steph comes off the books….but Lee, Balk & Nate are gonna need re-signing at some point (if that is their fate).
By PaulNoize on Jan 18, 2008
Well put (as usual) STATESMAN, however the so-called “MSM” has often pontificated that the culture of culpability is so intense in the biggest media markets, that it practically forces incoming front office teams in pro sports to “make change for the sake of making change”. Isiah struck for the quick payoff when he rolled up in here, and has been doubling down ever since.
Steady, on #27 you jump on Zeke for deflecting questions about Balk’s playing time….Isiah takes some unfair hits, and i think this is one of them. The entire Knicks organization is straightjacketed by James Dolan’s media policies, which i think deserve an equal or perhaps even greater amount of scorn and analysis than the print output of the supposed “MSM”.
While we’re patting ourselves on our collective backs regarding the correct prediction of Steph’s surgery (we know it before the “MSM” does!), i think it relates more to the fact that someone, somewhere on this blog takes virtually every possible position on every question relating to the Orange & Blue. If we collectively take every position - then yes, we’ll always be right and always be the first to correctly “predict” things. We’ll also be the first to incorrectly predict things, like the 50-win season predictions i scorned so heavily in the preseason (my own 39-win prediction from the old Knation forums is looking kinda STEADY, don’cha think?)
If i’m wrong, then perhaps our inside connects can answer the oft-asked question: what’s the status of Jeffries?
By PaulNoize on Jan 18, 2008
Steady, you’re not in the force MD’s? I thought you were a D.C. guys.
“MSM offers you 30 minutes of fame,” yeah, that was messed up of Craig Sager of TNT wasn’t it? (in reference to the Boston Massacre) but it looked so unplanned on tv before I heard about the wager.
STATESMAN, also, the obligatory “adjustment period” when a new player is aquired.
STATES, I haven’t forgotten about that poll suggestion about how many wins to finish the season, great idea, i’m going to try to post that one up today.
BX, hope you make it out to the game tonight should be a good one. sorry about all the extra posts, the three game win streak has got me amped up for a 2008 turnaround though I should remain STEADY.
i was on another blog and read something very interesting for yet another poll idea, stay tuned today for that one as well.
DVJ, why didn’t we see you on the TV in Jersey?

As 50+ year-old men (maybe) I’m almost certain they know how to Sip and Pass–as in Couvoisier, Hennessy and Remy. As for me, I’m ubiquitous and Steady.
KnicksDefense,
You will note that most cats who did not foresee the disingenuousness of Monty anticipated a 50-win season. Statesman was steady in preaching a slow rise to prominence as opposed to a broad leap. He damned nearly called DVJ out LOUD for having such optimism. Now, DVJ has become the ChuckFM of the blog with the reverse psychology and pessimistic rationalization. I see you got a bit of the bug too this AM. Wish the reverse and it will happen
As JayBee and Modi say, “free the children”. Free Chandler. Send Morris to the DLeague. And for the throwbacks here, make JJames earn his game check.

“It’s terrible” said Kobe of the Laker fans booing Kwame Brown!
“If they want to do that they can stay home” Said Kobe.
You boo him and it’s going to affect him, I let him know I got his back
said Kobe.
I’ve never seen anything like it said Ronny Turiaf, ” I’m sure his confidence took a hit today.”
“That booing is just not right, as a Laker fan you should support your team” said Jordan Farmer.
Can you defenders believe that NBA fans boo their own team??? Poor LA! LOL

Wow MODI…
I just read your story and if I didn’t know any better…it sounds like you think the team
still hasn’t turned the corner. Why is that?
We just beat 3 playoff teams.
Watch how we continue to shine without that black cloud (Marbury) over us.
So instead of giving one legit reason why we’ve started winning (Cause Marbury is gone)…
You go on to give 7 reasons!!
Come on bro…are you serious right now?
Knicksdefense…I also didn’t see myself when I came home and watched it on my DVR.
It was an exciting game where we were talking shit to the Nets fans….especially when
McGloire pushed Richardson. When the team came over to the bench….Nate was saying all kinds of
“fuck you’s” and what not.
Zach was also talking shit.
Curry was quiet as was Jamal…but Jamal was quiet because he was talking to Herb for the entire time on the bench.

Peaceman,
The irony in that post blows my mind. Still, what are you really thinking? Gimme the NY version for why you posted that. I said it once: IT does not do Kwame Brown because it validates Jordan. Brown was playing well before the injury so it will take him some time to get back wid it. If you thought we had a weak-minded C in Puffy C, get a load of Kwame. He’s LA’s Barney to our Puff da Magic Dragoon. And you know about the character in the Barney suit. Just bloggin.

DaVonn I listened to the audio link you posted yesterday. It is interesting that MSM tries to portray IT as dishonest by nature when they are dishonest by nature. In the link, I think it was either Sheridan or Broussard but they said that IT gives honest interviews based on whether or not he likes the reporter. If he doesn’t like a guy, he either won’t give him anything quotable or will give him disinformation to not let him get the scoop before someone else actually does. Have you all noticed that on a lot of the articles, they are just quoting each other’s articles and observations. The “Zach stood up in the middle of the locker room and demanded a trade” thing was a reporter quoting a reporter that said it happened. I would propose that it is not that he is Machiavellian but that he is engaged in warfare with the media. When you see his pauses in between questions and answers, it is not because he is dumb; he pauses because he is thinking of how what he says will be spun by the snakes with the microphones. Their treatment of him has been pathetic. I may have issues with his substitution patterns but his treatment of the MSM has been fun to watch. They are squirming and trying anything they can so that they can have the run of the land again. They are trying to intimidate and get their friends around the country to help, but to no avail. Winning fixes a lot of things. We’ve got a long way to go, but I believe that this team can put it together enough to squeak in.
The homer in me says this because of my next email which will take a while to compile but it’s in my head…

I don’t even know what ChuckFM means Steady LOL…
I do know if our team wins tonight and then again tomorrow against the Heat…
It will prove to me that we have turned the corner. It would show that we can
maintain the same level of energy whether it’s against a playoff team (Detroit, Washington)
or a non playoff team (Miami)
The game on Monday will just be the icing on the cake.
Something is really telling me that this team just may get it now.
Then again…we’ve all thought this before.

Quick programming note: I’ve heard from a few of you in Fixer Nation about the condition of the blog lately. I stopped doing the PreGame routine because I thought it didn’t have much of a shelf-life. Re: #51 - Well put JayBee, but it is even more complex than you say. When Isiah pauses to answer a question, he not only has to: 1) identify questioner and decide whether s/he deserves a real answer, 2) understand how the primary reporter’s article will be spun by rival reporters and papers, and 3) understand how his Boss, James Dolan, will evaluate Isiah’s role in those articles (through the prism of the fabled MSG Media Policy Handbook).
It is a very complex and dicey situation. You can carry yourself with distinction and grace for years, and have one careless comment leave your career and reputation in shambles. In this, professional sports is not alone….and the same things happen to a lesser extent in Green Bay, WI as they do in the Big Happle. But running a pro sports franchise in NYC is a grinding, thankless task even when you’re contending year after year - imagine doing it in the middle of a six season sh*t sandwich (say that six times quick).
Isiah must have the dope “Just For Men” hookup with Clyde to battle the outward signs of stress, LOL….

I am alive. I just got back from detox. When the Knicks went on a 3 game roll I checked myself in at a local clinic. They released me same day, telling me its for real and that it wasn’t all a hallucination. lol.
Seriously Defenders, this is the best stretch of games on the scheduele this year. I hope our boys continue to play together and finish off the next 2 teams before resetting for Boston on Monday.
I have a few questions for you all defenders.
1. It seems that Philly is shopping Dalembert to make a run at Brand in the future. Does anyone see trading Marbury for Dalembert and Andre Miller as an option ? Miller comes off the cap at the same time as Steph and we inherit a shot blocking C. It works according to sportscrack.com ( or ESPN’s trade machine).
2. I don’t see how we can steal Artest for the MLE. There will be plenty of suitors willing to give Ron more. What about a sign and trade w/ Malik and Chandler as the bait this summer ? The Kings get younger and get cap relief (something they will need if they want to rebuild )
3. If we do these things listed above, what can we get for Curry ?
4. Does anyone think a starting five of Miller, Crawford, Artest, ZBO, and Dalembert w/ the current bench (Lee, Balk, Nate ) could compete for a title ?
By JohnQ on Jan 18, 2008

We can work on all that when the time is right (off season or when Sac takes what we give them).
If they want to be stingy…..let them. We’ll own the bargaining chips when it matters.

2)I also don’t think we can get Artest with the MLE(about 5-6million).We need to trade for him.The Kings are asking for Lee,Balk and N8.I would give them Balk only, out of the 3.Malik and Chandler make not do it.If they want the cap room great…again.

MJ, “YOU REACH, I TEACH.” Things are usually neither as terrible or great as they may seem on any given day. They are usually somewhere in the middle. It’s good to see a bunch of talented nice guys finally getting it right. We’ve all been waiting, some of us patiently, some not.It is strange that this burst of effort and team play has come with Steph’s decision to end his physical connection to playing for this year.Bottom line is he’s probably played his last game as a Knick. That is very very sad,but the rest of the team seems to be very, very okay with that, and that speaks volumes. We could probably use a point and Bibby seems to be the only one around.Sac plays team ball and he is a leader and, supposedly, a good guy, so that is a real possibility.A true point would help Curry who is doing much better with limited minutes.Curry shouldn’t be traded because he still has the big P, potential.Yeah, I know, he’s a coach killer, but the man has never been in shape. He needs to do what he didn’t do last summer, get in shape and then see what comes back after next summer. If it doesn’t work, then trade him.The reason you wait is very simple. The current bigs, Duncan, Garnett, Shaq, etc. are slightly over the hill, still great, but over the cusp. Then you have the new upcoming crop, Amare,Oden,Laker youngster, Moses..oops, I meant Howard et al.Now even if you like Zach offensively, you can’t be serious about him defensively in the middle.More on him in a minute.Who do the Knicks have, or who can they get to be a serious threat in the middle?Curry is still worth the wait through the beginning of next season. He’s that talented. Why he wasn’t guided through a summer regimen, this last sumer is a reflection of how unprofessionally the Garden takes care of its business.I wonder if Portland let Oden rehab and train himself last summer?Nuff said, you know the answer to that one. But,I like Zack. He’s kept out of trouble and he comes to play.He doesn’t appear to be brain injured so when asked to D-up or pass out of the double team he seems to have responded. But you have to ask or you don’t get.You have to teach or you don’t improve.Look at the fabulous teaching job Nate McMillan is doing with his young team. What’s up with our young guys?Balk and Lee are still afraid to shoot.Balk still defends little guys like their big guys and guys simply sit out games for reasons no one can figure out.Nate and Balk are playing as well now as they did in the summer. Why weren’t they playing more when we were being crushed? What guys do in practice should dictate who plays, not politics.Free Hanners! If IT goes the Larry Brown clone might be the right choice. But on the positive tip, the team is playing well.Big game tonight! The Wiz will be trying to wack Jamal and the Cowardly Lion.If we win this one, and Eddie House is playing the point for the Dark Side, we got a good shot at them too.If IT wants to keep his job he needs to continue playing at least 500 ball from this point and he may find a graceful way out of his predicament.Otherwise, he follows Steph into infamous oblivion. The Knicks just need to seize this time, play defense, share the ball and believe in themselves. We need to be steady! It can all still be good.LGK

from Chad Ford, ESPN Insider (now on free trial i guess for awhile)
The Isiah Thomas era in New York has been dying a slow death for the past two seasons. A three-game win streak not withstanding, owner James Dolan has had all the ammunition he needs to kick Isiah to the curb for more than a year now. (Here’s a transaction-by-transaction case for why the Knicks’ president of basketball operations needs to go.)
At this point, it seems to be a matter of “when”, not “if”, Isiah will get fired.
And at some juncture, whether Isiah loses his job now or at the end of the season, someone is going to have to come in, sift through the rubble and try to salvage a basketball team out of the Knicks.
Dubbed “Mission Impossible” by several prominent GMs, the once-coveted Knicks job is now considered a quagmire of salary-cap hell mingled with combustible chemistry.
Big name executives with stellar reputations — like Jerry West, Jerry and Bryan Colangelo and Donnie Walsh — have been mentioned as possible candidates for the job. But this mission, should any executive choose to accept it, would be the most challenging of their career.
For more than a year I’ve been talking with GMs about what they would do to fix the Knicks. The answer, invariably, has been a chuckle followed with a rejoinder: What would you do?
It’s easy to criticize Isiah Thomas for the moves he has made. Suggesting a course correction is more difficult … but I’m up for the challenge.
The Knicks’ situation is salvageable. Bring in the right people at the top, change the culture, hire a great head coach, manage the cap carefully, develop the young guys and the Knicks might actually look like a basketball team in a few years.
I think the model to follow is the Blazers. Four years ago they were the “Jail Blazers” — a team filled with talented players, zero chemistry and plenty of problems. Now? They are the hottest team in basketball, with a young core fans can stand behind.
Mr. Dolan, I hope you’re taking notes.
Step One: Buy out Stephon Marbury
When Isiah acquired Marbury three years ago, just about everyone thought it was a slam dunk of a deal. The Knicks gave up a few expiring contracts and draft picks and in turn landed a young point guard who could re-energize the Garden.
Only Marbury hasn’t been nearly as good as Isiah (or Stephon, for that matter) thought he’d be, and the Knicks haven’t been able to put together a winning season in New York. Marbury has one more year and nearly $20 million left on his contract after this season. The Knicks have tried to trade him or the past 2½ years, but no one’s biting. He hasn’t had a good season in several years, he’s been at odds with his past two coaches and he’s been missing in action since his father died.
At this point, no one is trading for him. So the Knicks should fire him. Yes, it would cost them a fortune, but it would be worth every penny.
Some will argue that he’ll be a valuable trading chip next summer because of his expiring contract. But using expiring contracts to collect talent hasn’t worked out well for the Knicks. With this strategy, they have gotten back overpaid, third-tier type players in return; generally teams that want cap room won’t give up great talent to get it.
Although Marbury could bring the Knicks something in return, it most likely won’t be as valuable as getting back some cap flexibility down the road.
And whether Marbury goes on to resurrect his career elsewhere is not an issue. It’s not happening in New York. The quicker the Knicks get him out, the quicker the team can begin to move away from the Isiah era. Making a bold move like dumping him sends a message to the team’s next coach: The front office is serious about creating a different atmosphere in New York.
Step Two: Trade Eddy Curry or Zach Randolph
If the Marbury deal was the one that started the Knicks’ descent into hell, it was the Curry trade that sealed the door. The Knicks gave up two lottery picks and paid a boatload of cash for Curry, a talented low-post scorer who does little else on the court. And, so far, he’s been unable to coexist with Randolph.
Although it may be Randolph who is begging for a trade, I think Curry may be easier to pawn off. Randolph is the more talented of the two, but he also has more off-the-court baggage. Curry’s deal is also for far less money, and the fact that he’s a center may make him attractive to a team with a huge hole in the middle.
Although it may seem crazy to give away a guy the Knicks spent so much money on, cost is irrelevant at this point. He’s a bad fit and the Knicks need flexibility and chemistry.
What type of deal might make sense for the Knicks?
First I’d hit up the Hawks, who are making a push for the playoffs. Although Al Horford has been great for them in the middle, he’s much more suited for the power forward position. A deal that sends Zaza Pachulia and Tyronn Lue to the Knicks for Curry (or if the Hawks won’t part with Pachulia, then Lorenzen Wright) would give the Knicks cap relief.
Another team that might be willing to take Curry is the Magic. They have Dwight Howard dominating in the middle, but he and Curry could play together in the front court. Two expiring contracts (take your pick of Carlos Arroyo, Keyon Dooling, Keith Bogans and Pat Garrity) along with J.J. Redick might be enough for the Knicks.
They may also try to entice the Wizards with a deal of Curry and Malik Rose for Antawn Jamison, whose contract comes off the books at the end of the season.
If the Knicks can’t trade Curry, they can keep trying to find a home for Randolph. There’s been talk in the media about Randolph being sent to the Bucks. However, if you look at the long-term salary cap implications of the rumored deal, it doesn’t make sense for the Knicks– even if Charlie Villanueva is in the deal.
The Lakers could also put together a deal that included Kwame Brown’s expiring contract and one or two of their young players like Jordan Farmar, Javaris Crittenton and/or Trevor Ariza.
Or the Knicks could try to get Jamison for Randolph if the Wizards won’t bite on Curry.
They also could try a swap with the Cavs to get Drew Gooden and expiring contracts in return.
Still, getting rid of Curry or Randolph is only half the battle. For the Knicks to have real cap flexibility in the next few years, they need to find a way to get one more guy off their roster. Whether that’s Jared Jeffries, Jamal Crawford or whoever’s left between Curry and Randolph, they’ll have to find a way to get a player whose contract expires in the summer of 2010.
Step Three: Start to dig the Knicks out of salary-cap hell
The Knicks’ payroll issues are bleak. The team has committed to a whopping $95.2 million in payroll this season. Add in the roughly $27 million they’ll owe the league in luxury=tax penalties and it gets even uglier.
Things don’t get much better next season — they only drop one contract, Fred Jones’, from the books. As it stands now, the Knicks’ payroll goes down to $89.8 million in 2008-09.
The watershed year is the summer of 2009. Marbury, Rose and Mardy Collins all come off the books and the Knicks’ payroll plummets to $62 million. That’s not enough to sign free agents, but for the first time in a long time the Knicks will have breathing room from the luxury tax.
Of course, had they not pulled the trigger on the Randolph deal this past summer, they could’ve been $10-$15 million under the cap in 2009.
If the Knicks are patient for one more year after that, Quentin Richardson and Jerome James can come off the books, too. However, by then they’ll have to decide how much to pay David Lee and Nate Robinson.
So, in the summer of 2010 — the same summer that LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh become unrestricted free agents — the Knicks could conceivably have cap room, especially if they move Curry or Randolph for cap space down the road.
Patience is a virtue here. If Isiah had bit the bullet and whittled away the Knicks’ salary cap when he got to New York, he would have had serious cap room this past summer.
Instead, the Knicks are in worse shape than when he arrived. The next guy can’t make the same mistake.
Cap room doesn’t win championships, but it gives teams the flexibility to make things happen. Right now the Knicks have zero flexibility, essentially neutralizing anything intelligent that a GM can do.
If the Knicks can find a way to get rid of some combination of Curry or Randolph plus either Jeffries or Crawford for a contract that expires after the 2009-10 season, they could be major players on the free-agent market in 2010.
Step Four: Start collecting lottery balls
With the exception of Lee and Robinson, the Knicks have done a poor job of cultivating their young talent. That has to change.
If the Knicks start rebuilding, it should produce high lottery picks the next few years. If they can get a high pick this season and use it to draft a franchise player like Memphis’ Derrick Rose, the Knicks suddenly would have some talent to build around.
Two draft picks combined with Lee and Robinson could form a nice core. And it needs to happen now — Utah owns the Knicks’ 2010 pick, which is unprotected. So they need to score big in the next two drafts.

Berman quoted Crawford disputing the notion that Marbury’s absence would make the team
better. “The Wizards have a better winning percentage with Gilbert (Arenas) out but if you ask them, I’m sure they’d love to have him.” If Jamal, feels this way, he is probably not alone. As I said yesterday, when Marbury has his head into the game, he enhances the Knicks overall team and depth. Now we have to hope that Nate (and perhaps
Mardy) will continue to develop their point guard skills. Whether the total team chemistry improves remains to be seen.
At any rate, Zeke will have the chance to guide the team for the remainder of the season, assuming that Dolan continues to ignore the MSM endeavor to destablize everything by having Isiah removed before the All Star break or before the trading
deadline. Ed Valentine of the “New York Stove League” blog http://www.hotstovenewyork.com/2008/01/17/knicks-are-messing-up-a-good-thing/ writes:
“Memo to the Knicks’ players: Guys, stop winning. Play like Marbury
was still out there. Your team sucks, the season is already ruined and
the only good thing that can happen the rest of the way is for Dolan to
actually work up the courage to give Thomas his walking papers.
Don’t win games. That will only make it worse.”
I responded to that statement as follows:
” On January 18th, 2008, Post-up Prince said:
Tanking the season so that Dolan will have a reason to “give Thomas
his walking papers,” would not in my view speak well of the Knick
players nor would it be in the interest of serving the fans who
purchase tickets to see competitive basketball. Even if Isiah lost
the support of some of his players, they owe it to themeselves,
their teammates, and to the fans to play their best team basketball.
Telling the players: “Don’t win games. That will only make it worse”
is a disservice to all concerned.”
Here’s hoping that the Knicks and thier coaches commit to putting out their best effort and compete with all out intensity. If they lose, so be it; but a full court, 48 minute
effort is necessary and should be expected. LGK

Big debate down here in Philly regarding Sammy - they’re pretty evenly split on evaluating him.
There’s no question he is overpaid for what is he or will be. He has a very low basketball IQ, hasn’t been playing for too long so maybe that will improve…probably not though.
Incoming GM Stefanski recognizes that Ed Snider ain’t James Dolan, and attendance is plummeting in the post-Iverson era. i think Stefanski aims to undo the moves Billy King made when he extended promising youngsters Dalembert & Korver (to put around AI). He’s already dealt Korver - a very easy piece to move. Sammy would be more difficult, but with shotblockers being so scarce around the league, i’m sure it could happen.
i think he might hang onto Miller though, thinking that Miller can probably pilot a team full of scrubs and rooks into contention for the 8th seed in the next season or two. And that MIGHT just be enough to keep attendance flowing enough to keep the black from falling into the red.
By PaulNoize on Jan 18, 2008
Paul,
Miller’s pact expires when Steph’s does. Don’t you think that they would be wise to trade him to us w/ Dalembert. They want to have flexibility to try and acquire Brand. We could give them that by jettisoning Marbury’s albatross contract to Philly. The deal works on many levels for all parties involved. I guess you skip my posts or you would have seen this line of thinking within the last 20 posts or so.
By JohnQ on Jan 18, 2008
Thoghts from da boomann:
1. Jamal Crawford has turned on his pilot light and starting to cook. All of his diligence and hard work is starting to pay off. I believe he is the perfect leader because of his even keel and his relationship with the other players. I fully expect him to stay consistent for the rest of the year.
2. Zach Randolph is learning how to trust his teammates because his assits numbers are up to about 3 during the winning streak.
3. Eddy Curry continues to dissapoint with his wishy washy play and needs to stop being a passive man.
4. Nate is fast becoming Great and I have a feeling we are seeing the blossoming of a truly special and Unique talent that will be a force to be reckoned with. He’s #11 in three point percenatage in the league and gives the Knicks a instant boost every time he checks in to play.
5. We will not lose more then 4 in a row for the rest of the season. Mark my words
By boomann21 on Jan 18, 2008
“With the exception of Lee and Robinson, the Knicks have done a poor job of cultivating their young talent. That has to change.”
yeah, that’s no good especially for a team at the bottom, what’s the logic in not playing the kids when you’re in last in the division? at least now the kids are seeing a little PT.
post up,
couldn’t have said it any better. this team should not tank. it’s unethical and if they were doing there would be no point to watch the game, i’d just be watching the standings and that’s no fun.
da boomann!!
where have you been bruh?
glad to see you’re still around.
hope you’re right about 4-game losing streaks.
i cosign on your assestment of nate. i’ve been saying for a while now that he is the best shooter on this team. i want him to play better defense though, then he’ll be a force in this league.
By knicksdefense on Jan 18, 2008
Actually John Q, i read your post and thought it was pretty good, no need to put up tha dukes just yet. =)
You’re right, it would serve both parties well. It would also make us ridiculously deep in the front court, and could dangle Zach/Eddy/DLee without fearing who would play their minutes.
Thing is though, Philly ownership runs a tighter ship….i think Snider is simply too tight-fisted to pay Stephon $20M next year, when they don’t have a reasonable expectation of making the playoffs or reversing the declining crowds trend. Yes, even if it is in the franchise’s long-term interest to do so. i don’t see Brand + Dre being a contending nucleus with the other assets they have in play. It’s too bad, because Sammy & Eddy are ALMOST yin and yang.
They’re pissed they extended Korver & Sammy at this point, because they only want to spend money if they can realistically contend for the chip. Otherwise, it’s the cheap. The chip or the cheap - their dealing Korver signals it is gonna be the cheap for awhile. That’s why they didn’t extend Iguodala, and that’s why they won’t be taking on max contracts from guys on their last legs for awhile.
Having said that, i think this is an excellent and rational trade idea, and i would like to see it explored seriously by both sides.
By PaulNoize on Jan 18, 2008
Nate? Play “D”? Why?
No one else plays “D”. Crawford doesn’t play “D”, and he is PAID! Curry and Zach don’t play “D” and they are PAID IN FULL as well! Some guys try to play “D”, like Jared Jeffries - and look what happens. They look all awkward stumbling around the court trying to keep up with guys, they get knocked down sometimes contesting drives, get sweaty (ladies don’t like that), sometimes even get hurt like Jerome James!
Nah man, N8 ain’t playin “D” - he’s too smart for that. He’s been around the Knicks for long enough to know you don’t need no stinkin’ D, if your man gets a bucket on you then you just pump a trey at the other end….BOOM, 3 beats 2, Nate wins and looks GOOD doing it!
Besides, what counts are the highlight reels on ESPN that can be packaged into a promotional video that will be the centerpiece of Nate’s first contract extension negotiation. Dunks, alley-oop passes, blocking Yao Ming - that’s the core right there, baby….that’s how lil’ Nate is gonna GET PAID!!!
Besides, Coach Aguirre says defense is overrated - he never bothered with the stuff, and is a borderline Hall of Famer. =)

Hey I like the trade proposal of Marbury for dalambert and Miller.
If that don’t happen what other possiblities are out there.
I’m not saying I covet OTPs but if there is a decent trade that appears to work for both sides then shoot.
Also I hear DJ Mbenga, formerly of the Mavs and Warriors maybe available.
He was cut by the Warriors last I hear.
Could we get an injury exception b/c of Marbury’s injury?
Has he, Mbenga, caught on somewhere elese?
If not could we acquire him to provide some interior bruising?
I know that BARF as a warrior fan can tell me if signing him, assuming he is out there, is worth while.
Let me know.
By Black and Blue on Jan 18, 2008
“Could we get an injury exception b/c of Marbury’s injury?”
I don’t think we should ask the league for anything right now….
Especially with the current relationship between Dolan and Stern
reaching a boiling point.
Let’s just be happy that Steph is not with us. That may be as good
as it’s going to get LOL.
I’m telling you know…towards the end of the season, we will look back and
say when Steph went down, that was the turning point in our season.
Like Clay Davis in “The Wire” would say….sheeeeeeeeeeeeet!!

YES!!!!!!
Remember before when I said he will be a great asset to this team?
Give him a couple weeks to get into game shape and watch.
I know he’s never in game shape but when he gives us that 15 - 20 minutes a night
he can be more than useful.
It’s getting better slowly but surely my brothers!!!!

@ PaulNoise,
I can’t remember the source but the Knicks 1rst round picks are protected from 23 down this year,
24 down next year and 2010 unprotected. I believe it is our option to as to which pick the Jazz get,
but the Jazz do not own our 2010 1rst rounder! If by chance the Knicks pick at 24 this year or 25 next year
the Jhat pick becomes the Jazz’s. I also believe it is our position to delagate either pick to the Jazz if
the knick choose prior to 2010!

They have been contemplating their revenge and a stew of vengeance might be a brewing.
Do the Knicks have what a takes to take a team at home and away?
Or is the three game winning streak their version of the annual tease?

It has been so hard to sit here and watch my favorite sports team ever

Plus it would be great if we keep winning so Isiah can stick around
and reap the benefits of what he created. Instead of firing him and
hiring somebody else so they can come in here and get praised for having
Lee and Robinson on their team.
Let’s not forget…no mattere what happens…the players that we love which includes
Nate, Lee and Balkman were bought here by Isiah.
If Chandler can play a little more I think we’ll all grow to love him also.
Only thing is….2 of those players play the same position so what’s really
going to happen with Balkman or Chandler. Plus what happens if Artest gets thrown
into that mix?
The choices we have to make huh?

I hear you about the Knicks.
There the first team I learned to root for
and
The last team I’ll turn my back on.
All the losing has me all black and blue instead of with the spitfire chagrin of Orange and Blue.
Yeah we can’t let Jamison hit those wide open threes.
Again I’ll ask.
Since we have the laziest bigs in the league– Curry and Snaxx– can’t we get someone to do some bruising?
Is Mbenga still out there. We need a big cheap shot artist to get other teams to think twice about coming into our lane and Barney, and Stay Puff may not cut it.

KNICKS v. WIZARDS PRE-GAME ANALYSIS
Knicks ( 12-26, 6 games from the 8th spot with the tie breaker against the Nets)
Wizards (20-17, 2d Place in Southeast Division)
Summary: A Defender summed it all up the previous game: STOP CARON BUTLER AND YOU STOP THE WASHINGTON WIZARDS.
This game will not be nearly as easy as the Knicks 105-93 point victory against the Capitol City team on January 15th . First, although the Knicks played extremely well and Isiah used sensible substitution patterns and unit combinations, one cannot discount that the effectiveness of the energy units was heightened by the scheduling circumstances. The Wizards coming off two playoff atmosphere victories against the Boston Celtics simply did not have the team energy to compete with a well-performing Knicks team.
This game is important to the Wizards since they play Dallas on Monday and desire to get back to their winning ways (6 out of the last 10). The Wizards will be better rested and are more likely to hit their jumpshots and receive some energy in the defensive area. Still the Knicks have a more talented 15 than the Wizards and if they can play offensively the way they played the past three games with a bit of defensive intensity against Jamison, Mason and Butler they should beat them in the fourth quarter.
But I remain skeptical that Isiah has actually figured out a definitive winning rotation pattern although it has been staring him in the face and slapping him in the groin for 40 games.
Isiah’s Projected Starting Five
Isiah refuses to give up on his starting five and he is waiting for them to stop giving up on him by allowing so many points early in the game.
Jamal Crawford
Fred Jones
Quentin Richardson
Eddie Curry
Zach Randolph
The advantage the Knicks have is that they are not a jump shooting team, but they require perimeter accuracy to jump start their interior game in order to keep defenses honest and to reduce turnovers during the double and triple teaming of their post-men. If Zach continues to pass the ball to the perimeter and Crawford, Jones, Robinson and Q can hit a few shots, the Knicks are a very tough team to play.
Injury report: Jerome James (activated I believe) and Stephon Marbury are out indefinitely.
Wizards Starting Five
Wow. As soon as you visit the Washington Wizards website they hit you up for your vote for Caron Butler and Antawm Jamison for the All-Star Squad. It’s special. They have a short personable video and offer their credentials to jazz sound-bites. The anticipated starting line-up is as follows:
Caron Butler SF
Antawn Jamison PF
Brendan Haywood C
DeShawn Stevenson SG
Roger Mason PG
Point Play
It is likely that Roger Mason will start in place of Antonio Daniels which is favorable for the Knicks. Antonio Daniels, slowed by a sore knee, is a 6′ 4″ 205 lb point and is expected to play. In 31.3 minutes per game he is averaging 8.9 points per game and 5.1 assists. But the stats don’t tell the story of how well he has been running this team. He is quick, a tough defender and takes good care of the ball. He averages only 1.6 turnovers per game. In the two recent Boston games he averaged 37 minutes and 7 assists per game and 2.5 turnovers.
Roger Mason is 6′ 5″, 200 lbs. He is also not much of a scorer averaging only 7.4 points and 1.3 assists per game. But of course he scored 20 in the loss against the Knicks but had no assists. This is certainly a weakness to be exploited because he clearly takes them out of their offense.
He is not known as a great athlete but he can create off the dribble and has a jump shot. His shots against the Knicks come from 19 feet and out. Although he is quick off the dribble, it might behoove the Knicks to play him close and force him to drive or pass. He doesn’t turn the ball over much, but that’s because he likes to shoot.
Powerful Forwards
Caron Butler and his “All-Star Creds.” Averaging a career high 22.1 ppg, 4.5 ast. 2.2 steals and 88% free throw percentage. He ranks as one of the top three forwards in the Eastern Conference in all categories holding the number 1 spot overall in steals. Hmmm, he’s having a good year, you think?
Antawn Jamison has a career high of 8 boards per game ranking him 7th in the NBA. He has 20 double doubles this season (6th in the NBA) and is averaging 21.8 ppg (4th among eastern conference forwards).
Brendan Haywood is 7′ 0″, 266 lbs. A nice big body that runs the floor well, rebounds and blocks shots. Offensive game mediocre. Will occasionally try more than he is capable of doing. Not great hands. Inconsistent. Give him the ball.
Injury Report: Etan Thomas out for the season because of heart surgery. Gilbert Arenas (knee surgery) out indefinitely and Antonio Daniels is day-to-day with a sore knee.
The Wizards best unit by far has been Daniels-Stevenson-Butler-Jamison-Haywood
Bonus Note
Curry had problems with Rookie center Oleksiy Pecherov, who missed the first 33 games of this season with a hairline fracture in his ankle. He played a career-high 18 minutes against New York on Tuesday. The 7-footer scored nine points on three 3-pointers and also grabbed four rebounds.
Overview
Statistically, these teams are fairly even except that the Wizards are a bit more defensive minded as indicated by 7.7 steals per game (6.3 swipes per game for the “Bockers”) and 96.8 points against (compared to 100.7 for the Knicks). This game will come down to matchups and hustle. (No surprise there).
If the Knicks are able to move the ball around the perimeter and put pressure on their bigs in the post, the Knicks should dominate inside, collect fouls and win this game. However, different defensive looks (Q, Balk and Jeffries) on Butler should wear him down a bit, but he will get to the line often against each of these players. He will hit those freebies too.
The Knicks are too inconsistent for me to call this game.

I’m witcha on the bruiser B&B. We’ve got the weight but not the will. Eddy and JJ are too nice. Not nasty enough.
Davonn, good point about Zeke not getting credit for what he’s built. Same thing happened in Indy. Bird comes in and day 1 fires Zeke with a competitive team ready to take the next step. Hires his boy who looks like a genius afterward. However, his boy lacked people skills so you see what happened to that team; they fell apart. Hopefully he’ll get to feel the love at some point. He’s got to come off of that old school mentality and realize that the young guys have come to play. If the old rich guys are too tired to play, we’ve got some hungry young kids with plenty of talent hungry for the opportunity.

Needless to say Lives is Lives. He cannot be replaced. Especially by me. Great post Lives.
A good dose of Balkman, N8 and Lee and this team will be toast. Agreed, effort will determine this game. Eddy and Zach will have to be aggressive inside to get their big uglies in foul trouble. Someone should put pepper spray in Eddy’s deodorant can, he would block more shots.
