Les Knicks face LeBron

December 19, 2007 – 2:44 am

lebron.jpg

The Cleveland Cavs (11-14) come to the garden tonight to face the New York Knicks (7-17).

This is a rematch for the Knicks, who lost to the Cavs in Cleavland, 106-110, in the Knicks’ season opener on November 2nd. In that game, LeBron scored 45, pulled down 7 rebounds, dished out 7 assists and ripped 3 steals. For New York, it was Crawford and Randolph who had big scoring games with 25 and 21 respectively, and a now seldom used player named Nate Robinson contributed off the bench with 19 points and 6 rebounds in 27 minutes.

In recent days, Coach Isiah Thomas has said publicly that change is coming, and it is up to the reader to infer if he means a lineup change, or his own removal from the coaching staff. It is hard for me to envision Isiah relieving himself from coaching the Knicks, because Isiah never really volunteered to coach the Knicks to begin with; it was James Dolan’s order after Larry Brown was fired during the “show significant progress” days, which resulted in Isiah’s contract extension midway through last season.

If the Knicks are going to get back into the playoff race, they had better start winning soon–the season is going nowhere fast. The east may be weak in terms of records, but I don’t think it will be for much longer. The teams that are in playoff spots are going to fight to stay there, and the teams that were expected to make the playoffs that haven’t done so hot are going to want to cover lost ground right about now.

>>>

One last thing, as some of our defenders have already mentioned previously, there is a knicks protest coming up on the day of the bulls game, details can be found here.

  3. change is in the wind guys. whether it’s roster, management or wins, something’s gonna change. i wonder what our new year’s present is gonna look like?

totally OT, but just for laughs and b/c i’m procrastinatin, the latest on dnice is that he’s been assigned to the d-league. heh! it’s not the stigma it used to be (20 nba players have been assigned so far this year, guys who weren’t getting much burn otherwise), this league is really becoming something. i wonder if it’s worthwhile sending down mid-first round guys like javaris crittenton and our own wilson chandler? at some point burn is burn.

  4. Charles i am agreed….the Scholar hinted at it while griping about he DNP-CD role for vets - ballin’ beats sittin’.

Send Chandler, Morris & Mardy down & let ‘em play and establish themselves as “the man’ at the D-League level.

  5. @PaulNoize,

Mashburn is now a Scholar???? Let’s count his NBA Championship rings? How many is that?
Also, can anyone tell me the crimes against humanity that Artest has comitted for you
guys to hound him as a headcase? How many days has he spent in jail? Was he ever convicted of a felony? Gun charges?
How much money has this man raised for the unfortunate?

The fact is we need his “bad ass” tude on this team right now! The Knicks need his heart and play
    to be contagious!!!

  6. Guys I’m at work,

The TV is on Fox 5! They are running this Dentist(big pink slip)story that wants
Zeke fired and also running the story about the Heckler who they removed from the Garden behind the Knicks bench!
Man, this Media is the worst! I just hope Dolan continues to tell them to go Fuck themselfs!
We need a big win tonight against the CAV’S! Lets go Knicks!

PS. Most of the people here @ work are sheep! Some of them stated ” Magic should be fired” ????
Shows what they Really know and how easily they are led by the MSM!

By Peaceman on Dec 19, 2007 at 7:41 am

  7. Steady, Peace….i meant Malik as “The Scholar” when he whined recently about not being able to do physical conditioning on the days he was “active” but wasn’t put into the game by Isiah…he asked that he be deactivated so he could do conditioning stuff to stay in shape.

Monster Mashburn…i have no opinion on one way or another.

W/r/t Artest, he has talked about retiring suddenly no less than three separate times frankly and openly. On-court the man has more heart than the entire Knicks roster PUT TOGETHER, but i can understand the viewpoint that we have endured enough uncertainty that we should steer clear unless we can get him on the cheap - and it is clear that Sacto is still looking for full retail price at this moment, whether that is logical or not. The calls for trades and roster change should be tempered with the knowledge that the whole league knows we’re buying, and that makes Isiah & Glen’s job extremely difficult…

  8. Morning Peace and Gentle Defenders. Tough times in the City. Zeke has the resources, he needs to analyze the facts better. He has more than enough data to make the right decisions. Anyway, my man Peace asked me to forward an e-mail to you that he received from MSG in response to a great e-mail he sent them ( I assume he already published it here, b/c I am very behind on the Defense reading). To maintain his secret identity I altered the “To” line. His poitn is that MSG is listening (or reading) and they know that the true Knick fans are here. Enjoy. I hope to be back by the end of the year –a bit faster if Zeke does what he is supposed to do.

  9. I notice that for some reason the “msgnetpr@thegarden.com” did not show up in the “From” line. You techies might know why. I think it had something to do with the html code from the e-mail. I just want you to know the e-mail came from a legit address.

  10. The next blow-out loss by the fearless Knicks at home could be very ugly especially for the “profit” Isiah.

Massive protest inside the Garden are being planned & organized by fed-up NYK fans. There will be “Fire Isiah” posters that fans will be flashing throughout the Garden IF the game becomes a blow-out along with the chorus of my favorite mantra: “Fire Isiah.”
A civil war is brewing inside MSG, nothing that we’ve seen in our collective lifetime as sports fans. Seriously, if everything goes according to plan, this could be a life-changing event in the professional sports platform.

Also, protest and petitions will be organized outside the Garden at the next home game.

Makes you wonder how Team Isiah and Jimmy Dolan will deal with this. Will they ban the FIRE ISIAH posters? Will they confiscate them? Will they hire extra security? Will they have TSA and Homeland Security officials screen fans & their bags?

    Lastly:
Just browsing and glancing thru the postings here for the last couple of days. It sure APPEARS that certain regular posters have been MIA here since the “no heart/no pride/no courage/no coaching IQ” team’s losing ways and complete fiasco began to unravel and became magnified. Too hot in the kitchen? I think the MIAs are the one s who have branded & accused certain fans as “fair weathered.” Isn’t that ironic?

(the operative word there is APPEARS as there is no forensic evidence to declare this conclusive)

I’m starting to feel a pre-seasonish buzz in the air. We’ll see what the New Year brings us.

  12. Checking in. No we are not asleep. It just gets a little crowded in here when you boobirds come in here to gloat about Knick losses so there’s more to read. A lot more. I went to a play last night and fell out when I got home. I come to work today and it takes almost an hour and a half just to get caught up.

By Jay Bee on Dec 19, 2007 at 10:07 am

  13. Since my comments from last night have suddenly vanished (Knicksdefense LOL)…I’ll repeat them.

Kobe is going to score 50 on us if his groin is feeling any better.

Those fans marching today are the dumbest fans ever LOL.

Artest still wants to come here according to real GM.

What seems to be the problem?

  14. Those f**king insurance salesmen started calling my house at dinnertime again.
    What’s going on?
Did something happen recently? I got a break for a couple weeks, now they’re at it again.

I refuse to take part in any trade scenarios.
We’re all looking to make the Knicks better, when deep down we know other teams are looking to rob us.
This is the worst time to do any trades. All you’ll get is 15 cents to the dollar.
Besides, the only person to make it happen is Zeke.

Zeke the GM needs to hire a coach.
That’s he only way we’ll see some real changes made.
Zeke the coach is either confused, just too loyal, or some players have dirt on him.
There’s no reason to keep that same underperforming group together on the court at the same time.

I’ll be at the Garden tonight drowning out the boos with cheers. I stay committed. I’m steady.
Real Knick fans don’t boo. It’s the sheep that has been led by the media that boo at the Garden.
The guy that got the warning got his ticket off the street, and it was his first or second time at the Garden.

  16. Dead man walking. The most effective rule for coaching is to give your players all the credit for winning and take all the blame for losing. If you’re any good, others will blow your horn for you. When you blame your players in public the situation has reached the desperation level.Last season the Knicks played tough, even in their losses, and the outlook for this season was very positive.Nate and Balkman had good summers,Crawford gained muscle, since lost, good, and Curry, supposedly lost weight, since found, bad, after last years All Star run. What happened?First poor supervision, poor coaching, and poor planning. The key to our poor defense is Eddie Curry. He’s done after a “quickie”, 10-12 minutes.Kenny Smith, “He doesn’t look in NBA shape”.He will be a good to great player someday, but it won’t be immediately because this guy has never been in shape in his life, so no one, including himself, knows how good he can be.If he was 30 pounds lighter he could conceivably be a better defensive anchor and rebounder, to say nothing of a better offensive player.Who should be blamed?Everyone, but if 50,000,000 dollars are invested and your personal and business success are on the line you have to be more involved.Case in point, from SI article on Craig ”Rhino” Smith.

“The second item on that rhino list relates to diet, an element of Craig Smith’s offseason regimen that got extra special attention this year. Prone to excess poundage, Smith trained in double-time over the summer, hitting the weights hard enough to bench-press Kevin Durant while he’s bench-pressing. He did Pilates and danced through some aerobics, while eating more healthfully. The result? Stonger and even sleeker than ever, still beefy but not at all blubbery.

Smith spent the weeks prior to this season in Minneapolis, practicing against Al Jefferson, the centerpiece of the Kevin Garnett trade and thus the franchise’s new anchor. Lately he has been trying to adopt some of Jefferson’s wicked up-fakes, while the two of them work on their overall consistency.

He seemed destined to go the way of Byron Houston, Marcus Fizer and other NCAA strongmen who were undersized and overmatched trying to play a classic low-post game while spotting foes six or eight inches. But Smith’s tenacity gives him a little bit of Barkley, a little more of Malik Rose, in getting as much out of his body — inch for inch — as any frontcourt player in the league.” See also Post article on how Antoine Wright spent his summer!

Is it too late, maybe, maybe not?How much time does IT realistically have left?If he has a month, he may have enough.Curry could be in better shape if he had nutritional help, a trainer and was used for limited minutes while he gets in shape on the run.He should play only those minutes that he plays hard. Then we need to pull him and play small and tough defensively. We will win a few and lose a few while we wait for him to play into shape. It is unfathomable that when IT goes into a locker room of guys who he has made millionaires he cannot get these guys to play defense! That is a commentary on something! That is also a professional and personal commentary on everyone in that room. What happened to the concept of loyalty? He hasn’t asked anyone to break the law, just to break a sweat! While we’re on the subject of who’s in that room, the coaches have not distinguished themselves either.Aguirre had responsibility for Curry getting better. It didn’t happen and made no sense anyway.Offensively he is worse. Where is even the basic head or shoulder fake? The movement to step to the pass? The jump shot? that was his summer project? And how much defense did Aguirre play when he was in the game? Why him instead of a personal trainer, cook and big man camp? We’re all paying for those mistakes now.Fortunately, our jobs are not on the line.Where is Balkman’s jumper, man defense.Same for Lee and his terrible foot speed, (jump rope dummy!) and defensive footwork. These guys are not rookies anymore.Who is responsible for their (non)development?Sounds angry? Not really because if you watched the other ridiculous teams the Knicks fielded over many years you know that this too shall pass and better times will come(Here’s another fine mess you got me into Stan!).Can IT survive?Sure, it is possible, but not probable. That’s unfortunate, but so was the LB saga. All he has to do is win 4 or 5 in a row and all will be forgiven. Many fan, short for fanatics, have screamed, begged and spoken out,me, for this team’s need for defense since the origin of KK, the root of this venue. If anything IT has been indecisive with his rotation a la LB.He had a plan and should have stuck to it.Zack is a good player and he may work out, but look at the difference from the end of last year to now.Curry was on the upswing.Had we brought in more D and Curry got into any shape but oval, we’d be better now.Still, it is what it is.A coach once told me, “I can lose with you, or without you. Convince me why you should play…”. My advice to IT is to play those guys who come to play defense and play hard, real hard. The offense will take care of itself.Good defense generates offense.Isiah hasn’t hurt anyone more than himself so the vitriol is unwarranted.Ultimately he will live or die by his record. For my part I wish the game could be played in a closed gym with just cable viewing. It’s the Garden, not the Colliseum.

Finally, Isiah, a word of advice,

It’s just a job. Grass grows, birds fly, waves pound the sand. I beat people up.
    Muhammad Ali,

Knick people, vote with your ass, not your mouth.LGK

  17. @ Tman…

    Thought provoking post. Well said.

By Rockstar on Dec 19, 2007 at 10:39 am

  18. Tman - isn’t Curry prohibited from extensive cardio work due to his heart condition? Thought i saw that somewhere…

African - well said on the 15 cents on a dollar thing. Sacto’s used car salesmen owners are for sure insisting on us absorbing KT & Shareef’s contracts while giving up probably Lee AND Balkman in exchange for Artest, and Zeke ain’t buying it. So we maintain the status quo and try and figure out what is best for the team.

Dolan won’t let Isiah hire a coach. He’s still paying Larry Brown and has spent WAY more than enough money on his coaching staff and front office. If Isiah wants to promote Herb and step back, that is another matter i suppose, but i reckon Herb’ll have to do it for the same money. He would in a second, i am sure - i just don’t see it happening.

African, i don’t agree with your OPINION that real Knicks fans don’t boo, though.

My OPINION is that Knick fans are entitled to boo if the players on the floor don’t play hard. It is an honor and a privilege to wear the orange and blue, and no matter what your salary or age or rep - if you’re wearing the uniform and in the game but not playing hard, what you get from the fans is ON YOU. That is maximized in the lean times…you know, like if you’ve had many consecutive losing seasons, for instance.

i can’t bring myself to boo, but i can’t knock the guys who do when we’re getting mudstomped by 25 points on multiple occasions by mediocre teams. Obviously i think the threshold needs to be way lower than what it is, but the Big Onion gotta stay true to itself i guess.

Anyone see Oak’s mugshot? Pass the Dutch….LOL i bet Tyrone Hill & Jeff McInnis got the best night’s sleep of their lives finally!

  19. tman, good stuff, but re curry thing is you can only get so much boost out of an inspirational pep talk. it may light a fire under you for a while, but once the euphoria ebbs, that fire has to burn from within. guys like craig smith, a budding poor-man’s barkley, and utah’s paul millsap (my fav line from paul, when asked about the secret to his rebounding prowess: “my secret is there is no secret — i just go get it.”) have a desire that burns bright and long. curry’s wick is nearly always wet, can’t stay lit. any of you who’ve tried to lose weight know it’s a difficult thing, especially if you love to eat. it takes a serious dedication and dedication requires fire. not everybody has it. he’s making do with the aptitude and attitude he has.

long story short, curry wouldn’t have done enough at fat camp, even if he were willing to go.

African my brother, i predict dem insurance phone calls will stop by february (dnice is just following jamesOn curry’s footsteps) ;-) book it.

  20. More from an interview with Paul Millsap (the only 3-time –consecutive at that — div I rebounding champ), an undersized power foward.

HoopsAddict.com: Interesting. Treat every shot like a miss. So you shared some of your sacred rebounding philosophy. In one word how would you describe the science of rebounding?

Paul Millsap: Desire. The will to go get the ball. Plenty of players do not go after the ball every play…these players try to conserve energy. Me…I go after the ball every play.”

  21. The Knicks will scratch out a win tonight. Unfortunately I will not be at the game and cannot watch TV but will catch Knicks in 60. I will be at the Lakers game to cheer up the Knicks.

There is nothing wrong with the makeup of this team. The problem is the heart. My guess is we are going to finally give up a lot to get Artest and he will sign a contract extension as part of the deal Just to be sure that he will be here for a while. Will that save the Knicks? We’ll see

  22. Paul:
If you know me by now, you’d know that I don’t come on here to have folks agree with me.
You don’t have to agree, no harm.
I maintain that the real Knicks fans don’t boo.
There are folks that go see the games, and there are the real fans.
The real fans would prefer to stay at home, than boo their team.
Most of the boos come from those that read the tabloids religiously and don’t follow the game.
To each his own. Booing is the right of a paying customer, you can’t change that.
Heckling on the other hand is flat out wrong.
I’ve got to give much props to DaVonn when that conversation was on here. He held his own, and I fully agree with his take.
Freedom of speech does not give you the right to interfere with someone while doing their job.
Go try that with a traffic cop, and see the results.

Win or lose, I’ll have a good time. The Gaerden is special. I’ve learnt to not get too high on the big wins and too down on the bad losses.
I keep it all in proper perspective.

    Folly:
That’s the third team in two months.
At what time does the insurance sales become permanent?
    Wait till next month!

  23. African your only (tho imho critical) mistake in the dnice follies was assuming the reason zeke cut him was cuz he lacked skills enough to be nba-worthy. I say it was about timing, not talent. You can’t tell me if JSnaxx or Scholar’s contracts were more manageable/eatable that he’d still be gone. But, yeah, time will tell fellow Knick fan.

On the topic of booing, I agree that it’s mostly bullshit if folk is booin too much and at the wrong time. You want to help your team not just vent, so pick your spots. But i’m not sure if you’re saying it’s not ever alright to boo a player? Depends on circumstances, right?

F’rinstance, when it was clear wince carter was doggin it to escape town, man you better believe we booed his ass. You tellin me that was wrong?

By Charles Follymacher on Dec 19, 2007 at 12:26 pm

  24. Anyone who really understands basketball will not blame IT for players melting down at the end of the last game. According to Eddy when they get to the point when the miss like 2 or 3 shots in a row they go like “Oh this thing again” That to me sounds like the character of someone who is not battle tested. Maybe the team needs a psychologist.

You might boo a player who has publicly stated he doesn’t want to win or be a part of a team.

I might fire an employee if an investigation concludes that he sexually harassed someone at the work place. I certainly would not if there is little evidence. MSG was found liable (not guilty) because it appeared they had retaliated against ABS. How is that IT’s fault? The only fans who will use that as a reason to fire a coach are obviously ignorant.

Every team goes through rough times and certainly we’ve had ours. So far this season has been filled with some unfortunate happenings. Marb’s rift with the coach, Zach’s grandma death, Marb’s Dad’s passing, etc. It will have been amazing if we were above 500 at this point and certainly there were some games we should have won regardless. But is that enough reason to blow up the entire roster?

    NO WAY!!!!

    LGK

By Jazz on Dec 19, 2007 at 12:39 pm

  25. Exactly African!!!

Great analogy about the traffic cop LOL.

    It’s so true it hurts.

It’s not Isiah’s fault. Now if we had Shaq and Wade and we were still losing….then it would be a different story LOL.
I had to take a jab at Pat Riley !

By DaVonn Jefferson on Dec 19, 2007 at 12:56 pm

  26. Folly:
That’s not even the point with Nichols.
The issue is that he was reading his clippings too seriously. He had a higher-than-reality view of his talents.
Zeke used his second round pick on him, and he could have just as well go with the program with the guy that put his neck out for him. He was passed over multiple times by other GMs.
He thought he was that good. Guess what! He’s not!
NBA journeyman? Ten day contracts to replace injured players? Insurance sales? God knows.
I clearly stated that it’s the right of the paying public to boo.
There ones that boo are of a completely different make-up. There are some that would have booed from the time Brown got fired. Some would boo at the first loss of the season, like they expected the team to win every game.
I for one, would never boo a player or team. I go to the meadowlands to see the Nets and hope they lose every game.
They’re not my team. When their fans boo, I don’t, so why would I boo my team? That’s just me.
I’m a basketball fan, and I’d be able to tell my Grands that I saw LeBron and Kobe in their prime, the way I saw Michael.

By African on Dec 19, 2007 at 12:58 pm

  27. Fans that boo are nothing but monkeys.
    That’s whats up cause I said that’s what’s up.

Who got a problem with what I said?

I’ll say it again…fans are nothing but groupies and if you really think these athletes, coaches, GM’s or
owners actually care what fans think….you are living in a world of fiction.

I read that thread, but refused to engage because there was too much fuckry going on there.
The fans that picket are just wasting their time.
Dolan is tough as nails and he’s not going to allow the press to dictate how he runs his empire.
Money gives you the power the run the show the way you see fit.
    Good for you Dolan.
Once you allow these clowns to run the show, you’ve already lost.
So go boo, go picket, get out the signs at the garden, just don’t heckle.
    Don’t make it personal. Don’t start none…….

By African on Dec 19, 2007 at 1:59 pm

  30. African, we’ll do our level best here to get heads off the Knicks immediate doldrums, eh?

“The issue is that he was reading his clippings too seriously.”

Remember he’s the one who generated the positive clippings. He earned them. Lots of other guys played Division I college ball and summerleague and didn’t do as well. He knows he has NBA value.

“He thought he was that good. Guess what! He’s not!”

What does “that good” mean? All we actually know is that he thinks he’s better than euroball. That’s it. Going further than that, to assume he thinks he’s god’s gift to basketball is wanton speculation.

“He had a higher-than-reality view of his talents.”

Sez who? You? Fact is, we have no idea what he thinks of his own talent/potential other than he doesn’t think he needs to be in europe. You’ve gone on to predict he’ll be a journeyman NBAer/insurance salesman in short order strictly on the basis that zeke waived him. You said it from jump, again only based on the fact that zeke waived him b/c you surely could not say stuff like that based on his summerleage and pre-season performances.

“Zeke used his second round pick on him, and he could have just as well go with the program with the guy that put his neck out for him.”

Fact remains, he was a projected late-first-rounder til hepatitis C rumours went out before the draft that dropped his stock (you can find that on the web). The rumours turned out false. GMs only get two picks, man. If he’s got more confidence in himself to think
he belongs somewhere in the NBA, I don’t think that ego out of control.

So he goes and tears it up in summerleague and pre-season and gets waived and….seconds after he clears waivers he gets picked up. Twice, now. If you’re saying zeke cut the guy cuz he’s not too good and not because he was forced to b/c of the salary contract situation, then you’re either sayin zeke’s eye for talent ain’t so hot (like, why pick him in the first place?) or that other GMs are also blind.

Anyway, granted, I’m runnin out of excuses for the kid ;-) but you got to consider that he really didn’t have a fair shot at sticking with cleveland since they were only biding time til mophead returned (you could look at dnice as, well, “insurance,” in case mophead somehow weaselled out of his obligation ;-) ). Chicago’s the best opportunity for him to get some playing time. Like Chandler, he just needs some burn to show and prove.

I may yet be proved wrong about him (i think he’s got more potential than kapono), but I think you were waaay premature in predicting failure.

If your thing is about how he thumbed his nose at zeke’s plan, well, i find it surprising for a guy who is otherwise so openly contrarian. If anything, I’d think you’d be rootin for him (OPP aside). I didn’t figure you for a know-your-place, work-your-way-up-the-pecking-order kind of guy :P

  32. Call me slow, but what does any of the booing and fan reaction have to do with the Knicks’ putrid effort most nights???

I believe I posed this question onece before and I’ll ask again…

What came first? The uninspired play or the booing?

    African,

Your point is well taken about the fans that boo for no reason other than the fact that Larry Brown got fired, but I believe that a winning (or competitive) team would stifle the boobirds.

That, my friends, is on IT and crew.

Do we need to blow this team up? IMHO, no.

    Addition by subtraction? Yes

    A coaching change? Definitely……

The pieces are there and have always been. As someone alluded to, you can’t have 5 offensive-minded players in your starting lineup, for crissakes.

C’mon Zeke….you can’t expect to merely OUTSCORE your opponents, as fun as that might be.

He placed his loyalty on the WRONG folks….and it hasn’t been rewarded.

In fact, the effort put out by some is like a spit in his face.

Meanwhile, the “worker ants”, the cats that bring their lunch pails and hards hats to work EVERY DAY who really should play (who I really would like to see, BTW), aren’t being shown ANY love.

If you’ve played competitive ball or been around ball long enough, you know when players quit on a coach, and Zeke’s squad has clearly quit on him.

WTF that has to do with booing is beyond me. We need to fix what broken, and spare each other the details.

  33. Read this and tell me Curry doesn’t sound like a pussy.

“He doesn’t normally call us out, so I think we definitely took heed to what he said,” center Eddy Curry said. “It’s almost like you want to go out there and just prove to him that we do got heart. Maybe that was a coaching tactic, I don’t know. Maybe that’s how he genuinely felt last night after we lost like that.”

By DaVonn Jefferson on Dec 19, 2007 at 2:19 pm

  34. No you fat fuck….Isiah was just bullshitting. He didn’t mean any of that.
See this is what I mean….Curry doesn’t have it in him.

He’s a spoiled fat boy who’s never had to work hard a day in his life.

By DaVonn Jefferson on Dec 19, 2007 at 2:22 pm

  35. Check this out…..hmmmmmmmm!!!

Advance scouts chart every play call of their opponents. They see the team’s hand signal, and then they know where everyone should go. And then they watch. Sometimes what they see is that some players are breaking plays. Ian Thomsen of Sports Illustrated: “‘When Theus calls the play and it isn’t for [Ron] Artest, he’s so reluctant to let them get into a play he’s not involved with,” said an NBA advance scout who has been studying Artest recently. ‘He’ll be running down the floor and he should go through to the opposite corner, but instead he’ll turn and post up. He might be open and he definitely is good enough that he can be effective in a quick post-up, but that’s not the play. I can’t tell you how many times that happened. He is playing like a very selfish player right now. Maybe he doesn’t like the team, or he doesn’t think the team is good and so he has to put up numbers to make up for it. I knew he was a time bomb in the past, but I always respected his game. But he has gone down a notch or two because of the selfish attitude.’”

  36. Folly:
I was reading your piece and laughing. You should be his agent and starve to death.
What value does a player that has been kicked off three teams in two months have?
We do know what he thinks of his talents with the comments he made.
He since then got the boot from two other teams!
    Wake up!
You ARE running out of excuses for Nichols. But you already know that. Forgive me.
But the ones you’re going with can’t hold water. Too many holes.
He was picked up quickly off waivers twice! Then released…..TWICE!!!
Get off his jock and ask him to stop calling me during dinnertime. lol
I’ve exhausted my Nichols commentary. He doesn’t deserve the strokes.
    New topic.

By African on Dec 19, 2007 at 2:28 pm

  37. He forgot to leave out how Sac is playing without 2 of their starters, or should I just say
    without their starting backcourt.

He is the only offensive option on that team in my eyes.

I always thought teams should use Ron for everything he can do.
He can literally bring the ball up, post up, shoot the 3, come off screens and hit the 15 footer,
defend, rebound and just cause all kinds of chaos out there on the floor every night.

I say we get him but not for David Lee. Don’t include Lee in any deal for Artest.
If we do, the Knicks will be sorry a few years from now when Lee is a superstar.

  38. The sheeple in fixerland are high on the hog right now with the team struggling. A struggling franchise complete with villians sells newspapers. If they start winning, then I guess Hahny will say that IT should be fired because of ABS. He and the others have no choice but to keep this going. Some guy was praising Hahny for his activism and talking about the fourth estate. WTF?? Evidently he doesn’t understand the concept of the fourth estate. He was referring to the power of the newspaper reporter to has a check to the branches of power in government. This is not government. The tabloids are using sensationalistic journalism, people’s prejudices, predispositions and natural azz hatin’ to herd folks into doing what they want them to do. That’s a pretty powerful position to be in. When you can tell people to be somewhere and protest. What if you tell them to boycott McDonald’s or Macy’s. This is a power play alright. With the poorly treated beat writers as the heroes of the “little guy”. In the meantime, Isola has become nationally famous,as well as the other beat writers who are now getting face time on national tv. I bet IT on the back page sells a lot of damn ads too. See the research from the PEW Research Center:

    http://people-press.org/reports/display.php3?PageID=1066

And this article regarding pressures of a bottom-line on journalism:

    http://people-press.org/reports/display.php3?ReportID=214

From the above link: “News people also acknowledge a downside to the Internet solid majorities of both national and local journalists think the Internet allows too much posting of links to unfiltered material. In addition, sizable numbers in the national (42%) and local samples (35%) say the Internet has intensified the deadline pressure they face. The changing media environment is generally having an impact on journalists’ workloads pluralities of national and local news people say they are increasingly rewriting and repackaging stories for multiple uses.”

and this one also from the second link:

“Journalism is becoming more and more a business operation. What news stories will make our station/newspaper more profitable? This has always been part of the “business” but now it has become the major factor.” - Vice President of online news at a local TV station”

I don’t have a problem with booing a lackluster effort. The problem is the sheeple. They boo because someone missed a 3pter they were supposed to take. They boo when a shot is blocked even though someone else is tugging the guy’s jersey and it’s not getting called. The boos are not coming at times where an objective person would say, “These are some intelligent fans.” The point is, it doesn’t take intelligence or courage to go along with the crowd. But it takes a lot of both to stand up to it. IT is standing up to it daily. He’s got money, he’ll never be poor again. He could easily run and say it was too hard; take his wife out of this harsh environment and constant pressure. But he stands up to those lying cowards in the press every day knowing that any word said will be twisted to fit their agendas. Fire MSM. Don’t buy newspapers. None of them. Until they change their coverage and stop the madness they created.

This would be my idea of a counter protest. Cancel your subscription and when they ask why, tell them “Fire the MSM”.

  44. Warning: long post hurr, very little Knicks content.

There is no “MSM”. Traditional print newspapers have been declining steadily for years, their audiences decimated by the rise of Craigslist, blogs, iPods, TiVo and p2p downloads. They’re a great wounded wildebeast blundering through the forest, only dimly aware that their wounds are most likely fatal.

The only thing that keeps them semi-alive is the fact that they have a physical tangible output printed on paper. That’s what keeps them afloat as opposed to network television, which is a digital product that has to compete with other digital content (and man are they getting their ass kicked).

So papers survive, losing money, and watching as their best talents are poached by the online sector. The hacks left behind know only one strategy: differentiate yourself from the (print) competition. So they race to sensationalize everything, they race to provide the content they think people will buy, and as the competition goes to ever further lengths to provide lurid details and hateful analysis, the whole thing implodes into a mean sensationalism which caters to the lowest common denominator amongst John Q. Public.

Sports teams are an easy target because they are always around, and tomorrow’s teams and players can be compared (almost always unfavourably) to yesterday’s darlings. Every champion will be praised and analyzed to an absurd degree….all everyone else will be crushed by their local coverage for losing yet again.

But to suggest that there is an MSM which acts with a unified purpose is absurd.

Funny how liberals gnash their teeth at the very same “MSM” concept, thinking Americans are dictated to by huge media conglomerates who pick and choose what stories to cover, who pacify the masses with trivial BS like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton rather than hard stories like Katrina or the Jena Six. FOX News is just the propaganda arm of the G.O.P., etc.

Conservatives chortle at this concept, and also believe this very same “MSM” exists, but with an extreme liberal bias, dominated by “Moonbats” like Dan Rather, who invent news stories and subtly slant everything to condition the American public to embrace values which the left hold dear. Thus the rise in political correctness at the expense of the truth (allegedly), handcuffing the War on Terror because of racial profiling, covering only tragedies in Iraq rather than a more balanced approach which covers the good pro-American stories as well, etc.

There is no MSM. Only a fragmenting, once-profitable sector which is thrashing about doing whatever it can to simply survive.

  45. African, post #13 agree with it all– even the booing part…

    thoughtful post bt Tman

Jay Bee, excellent post on MSM and sheeple…

Mak writes: “It sure APPEARS that certain regular posters have been MIA here since the “no heart/no pride/no courage/no coaching IQ” team’s losing ways and complete fiasco began to unravel and became magnified. Too hot in the kitchen? I think the MIAs are the one s who have branded & accused certain fans as “fair weathered.” Isn’t that ironic?”

I’ll be honest, I’m less likely to post after tough losses, not because I’m abandoning ship or any nonsense like that, but for the simple fact that I’m not a masochist and don’t feel like rehashing the misery — At least not on that very same night… This concept shouldn’t be too hard to understand. 47. Who is Mak referring to as missing from this blog? I see most of the Defenders are back and pulling for the team. Not everyone can post every day. Frustrating as it may be to watch a struggling team, true fans do not boo, nor take glee in berating those who sustain their support. Few if any of us are so blind in our loyalty that we do not see shortcomings in players, a lack of competive effort or mistakes in coaching decisions. Yet a loyal stays loyal and hopes for a better performance in the next game, or the next.

The season is still young and I believe that the Knicks have sufficient talent to improve their record; certainly Isiah has enough savvy to make a trade, if possible, for an upgrade at one or two positions. Tonight’s game against Cleveland offers another test of will. If Lebron can be contained, the Knicks have a solid chance to win and gain back some pride and confidence. Balkman was not available when the Knicks played Cleveland on opening night; his presence should help. I would also
like to see some burn for Chandler. LGK

Sad to know that the Knicks haven’t improved since I’ve been away. One thing I personally can’t stand to see— is a losing basketball team— a team that don’t even try. Why bother? I have plenty of other things to do but invest a few hours in a losing, lackluster effort. I’m still a Knicks Defender just not a Knicks Losing Defender.

  50. Is that really you Zeke at #48. I got a message for you.

Isiah, if you don’t do a better job of coaching your team, I will personally kick your ass through the picket line at the Garden. Stop breaking up the rhythm of your team by forcing a rotation that goes down by twenty. Can’t you see that after two years the starting team of Marbury, Crawford, ZBO, Curry and Richardson does not work. It does not work you knucklehead. Does not work. Don’t wait for a trade opportunity to make better decisions. If I thought you were an idiot like Frank, Brown or that Denver coach, I wouldn’t threaten to stretch that crooked eyebrow across your face. But I am getting tired of your bad coaching in games we’re in. I won’t blame you for the lack of heart and character and the twists of fate turmoil you’ve faced. But to suggest that you have done a good job of coaching is a stretch mark waiting to burst.

God bless Marbury. Losing a parent is almost the worst thing that can happen to a mind and heart. (Yes, almost. Losing a child is worse) But let God bless him on the bench until he is traded or can think straight.

Give me a reason not to watch Detroit kick the Celtics ass (I hope)?

  51. Defenders

With Zeke’s time is running out, he supposed to have asked for “2 more weeks” to right the ship. I’m wondering what he thinks he can do in 2 weeks that hasn’t been done from October-December.

    Is he planning a trade?

Does he think Curry will NOW dominate?

Did Q catch fire in practice?

Marbury told him he is ready to win?

Crawford said he will start d-ing-up?

Think a line-up change will do it?

Or does he just want out himself?(which is what I now believe)

Everyone knows David Loves Those Knicks, but I wonder what Zeke thinks will happen in the next 2 weeks.

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:07 pm

  87. 79-65 6 left in the third.

LJames with the last two buckets.

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:08 pm

  88. CUrry and ZBO still out there after the second team played extremely well to finish the first half.

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:09 pm

  89. tonight’s boxscore

QRich has had a good offensive game and he and FJones are a nice pressure duo.

The man of the night, DLEE, is in at the 4:16 mark of the third.

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:11 pm

  90. Crowd being silly against Curry now.

By HarleminMD on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:12 pm

  91. KnicksD:

no more posting links on the blog? I had trouble with that this afternoon as well.

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:12 pm

  92. Yeah, Curry got ecstatic applause when he came out.

Either that or they were cheering Lee getting back in the game.

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:13 pm

  93. tonight’s boxscore

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:13 pm

  94. nevermind. it was my goof

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:13 pm

  95. Jamal giveth, Jamal taketh away. Tonight he giveth.

By Jay Bee on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:14 pm

  96. Nice to see the big tandem (ZBo/Curry) energized after watching the second team do well without them in the second quarter.

    Gus Johnson is the man

87-70 Knicks with 1:45 left in the third.

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:15 pm

  97. Anybody see QRich yappin’ on the bench? What’s that about?

He shoulda pulled it out instead of trying to challenge LeBron.

He ain’t got no bunnies no more….lol

By bronxboy in Md on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:15 pm

  98. We need to close out the quarter strong.

By Jay Bee on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:16 pm

  99. Eat the clock, put the pressure on them to come back in the fourth. Fourth quarter come back out with the energy.

By Jay Bee on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:17 pm

  100. Jeffries being aggressive to the basket to draw the foul…

naturally…his first shot is an airball..

i was watching him in warmups and he didn’t hit one shot…he’s pretty nad.

after he misses another freebie, the score remains 87-70 with 30 seconds left.

JJeffries is playing well on D though.

And the quarter ends with that score.

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:18 pm

  101. Defense is beautiful!!

By HarleminMD on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:18 pm

  102. Hold for the last shot.

By Jay Bee on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:18 pm

  103. DLee, 8-10 from the field, 17 points, 8 rebounds in 21 minutes.
QRich, 4-6 from three, 5-10 from the field, 7 brds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 14 pts in 29 minutes

Stephon hasn’t seen the floor tonight.

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:21 pm

  104. Best thing about tonight’s game is that the afterglow should be troll-free. If we finish out strong and get this lead up to about 25 the kids have got to get some burn. Garbage time for us would be great tonight.

By Jay Bee on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:21 pm

  105. DLee starts the 4th with an and-one off JCraw’s 6th assist.

    WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW

NATE WITH A STEAL AND BANG IN A BLINK OF AN EYE

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:22 pm

  106. GOOOOO Knicks LOL

By Peaceman on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:22 pm

  107. Yeah Baby Nate the Great

By Lives In New Jersey, Loves New York on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:22 pm

  108. Nice dish by Crawford.

    Fugg that…he’s our point guard.

Have Steph come off the bench behind Jones.

If he doesn’t like that, he can go home…foreal.

By bronxboy in Md on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:22 pm

  109. Damn BARF you’re fast.

By Lives In New Jersey, Loves New York on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:23 pm

  110. bxboy…yeah…steph is a backup 2 or he can stay home.

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:23 pm

  111. this is like a bag of pure white stuff and I’m on lexington avenue. Give me more!!!

By HarleminMD on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:23 pm

  112. HAHAHAHA LINJ,LINY

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:23 pm

  113. 92-72 Knicks, 11 left in the fourth

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:24 pm

  114. Bronxboy, that’s what I’m talking about. How much more dirt could hurt Zeke. Whatever Steph knows he might as well get it out now while it can’t get much worse for Zeke.

By Lives In New Jersey, Loves New York on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:24 pm

  115. Damn, that Varejao shot after Nate tried to block him was a great shot. Not much more you can do with that

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:25 pm

  116. Curry needs to sit.

He’s not built for the fourth quarter. The Denver game being the exception.

I hate saying stuff like this cuz Isiah usually does the opposite and leaves him in there…

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:26 pm

  117. Yes!!!

    LBJ goaltends a Nate and-one shot attempt…

I dont understand why Nate hasn’t seen more time. Isiah has me scratching my head on that trend.

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:28 pm

  118. 95-76 NYK with Varejao going to the line after Curry fouls him on the block.

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:28 pm

  119. This is proof the team plays better without Steph, and WITH protesters!

By Peaceman on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:29 pm

  120. This is sweet… and against LeBron, who tried to do an MJ.

    Sweet.

By HarleminMD on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:29 pm

  121. We should all go out the Garden and “pretend-protest” for the rest of the games at the Garden.

    Peace, you’re a superstitious SOB???

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:30 pm

  122. Co-signin’ with BARF’s comment about in Curry in fourth quarter…

Speaking of Curry, why doesn’t he put his hands up instead of pushing when he plays post defense?

I guess his arms are heavier by the fourth quarter…lol

By bronxboy in Md on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:30 pm

  123. bxboy, I would agree with you about the heavy arms but bigboy hasn’t seen much time tonight.

    he should be fresh. lol

    fresh curry

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:31 pm

  124. 98-77 NYK with a touch less than 9 left in the fourth.

LBJ’s pissed off for some reason. Just dropped an andone…

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:32 pm

  125. Nate blows by LBJ with a crossover JCraw would be proud of.

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:33 pm

  126. LBJ answer with a 3.

He;s not trying to let the game get away

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:33 pm

  127. Great move by N8 over LeBron…

Zeke has gotta feel kinda foolish…..

By bronxboy in Md on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:34 pm

  128. Knicks have 6 players in double figures.

    No DDD tonight.

Curry with a tip out to QRich in the backcourt…and the crowd answers with applause.

JJeffries follows that up with a strong drive to the hole.

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:36 pm

  129. ROFL @ Fresh Curry….

    What a oxymoron….lol

I wonder how Steph feels about now?

By bronxboy in Md on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:36 pm

  130. 106-88 NYK, 2 seconds less than 5 minutes left in the fourth. :)

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:37 pm

  131. St George fell off the bandwagon? Miss that dude on game nights.

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:38 pm

  132. Garbage time!!!!!!

By Peaceman on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:39 pm

  133. I feel bad about all thats happened to Stephon but he’s got to find a way to contribute to the team that is playing tonight.

ZBo is our best player but his presence disrupts what we had brewing last year.

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:39 pm

  134. Lay down Cavs, just lay down. Make them bow down Knicks. Put that doubt in their heads. They can’t say they played down to the competition. They flat out lost. G. O. baby!! Game Over!!! Put my kids in there.

By Jay Bee on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:41 pm

  135. ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…

    Collins has NO bunnies…..

By bronxboy in Md on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:41 pm

  136. He is BARF! He just needs to do the same next game!

By Peaceman on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:41 pm

  137. BTW, I can see what African has been saying about trading ZBo.

His acquisition was counter productive to last year’s team. And by including him in the mix its thrown everyone off because he does what some of our favorite players are already contributing.

Balk comes into the game and gets a blocked shot on LBJ on the first defensive possession. Mardy blows an open layup,,,ouch. he hears boos…of course.

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:41 pm

  138. Oh…

    and for all you haters…

the Scholar put in some real PT in the second quarter…you buncha bitches you

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:43 pm

  139. oh…yeah..how could I forget.

    Mak is a phaggot.

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:43 pm

  140. He was just thinking that last turnover…the Scholar!

By Peaceman on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:44 pm

  141. Gentlemen, this is the Knick team we know is in the belly of MSG. This is the team (in spirit) that was bringing us back from DDDs . And guess what. We gained a game on Boston who lost to Detroit 87-85 on a last second foul. LGK

By Lives In New Jersey, Loves New York on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:45 pm

  142. The house is a little different when you’re not here Barf.

    You get the bugs out.

By HarleminMD on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:45 pm

  143. Where the boo birds at? Eat shi+ baby!! We livin’ tonight!

By Jay Bee on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:45 pm

  144. I’m encouraged by Zeke’s lineup in the second quarter.

He found out who was working hard for him and he rode them all quarter.

QRich and his newfound stroke was a huge part of that as was DLee in the post and the break. When we were throwing around our season predictions, no one thought QRich would have had such a terrible start to his season offensively. Tonight shows how much we need his shot making ability.

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:46 pm

  145. We still need Steph.

By HarleminMD on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:49 pm

  146. I’m satisfied. Good Knicks. Good night.

By Lives In New Jersey, Loves New York on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:49 pm

  147. Take your fake fairweather azzes home.

By Jay Bee on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:49 pm

  148. Harlem…I hate them bugs. They have plenty of other blogs out there to infest. This needs to stay the only blog that is for fans, by fans. Real fans of course.

Fans shouldn’t be interested in dismantling an already rebuilt team. That shit makes no sense.

By BARF on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:50 pm

  149. Re: 146 - To the boo birds.

  150. Hey guys…wonder if Isiah is showcasing Lee for a trade?

By DNM on Dec 19, 2007 at 9:50 pm

  151. Nice win tonight.

Don’t expect the same letdown the Cavs just had when the Mamba comes to town.

However, I will take the win tonight.

    Very, very pleasant surprise.
