stop the madness

I like to think that until the vets sit and the kids play, we don’t know ALL we have as a Knicks basketball team.  In terms of math, when you have 15 players and can play any combination of 5, that’s 3,003 different possible lineups (larry brown tried to go through them all two years ago).  Now you know certain lineups aren’t going to work, ie the current lineup isn’t working, but you have yet to see any lineups like the following:

Nate
Stephon
Jeffries
Chandler
Zach Randolph

or

Fred jones
Jamal Crawford
Jeffries
Zach Randolph
David Lee

and so on and so forth to 3,000.

Just bloggin, but repeating the same conditions everyday and expecting different results is the definition of insanity.  I rediscovered my belief in this team when new players got burn at the end of the bulls game and during the nets game, but with the substitution patterns regressing back to insanity against indiana, it is very hard to think we’ve got a chance when the best chances we have are usually rotting over on the bench.

Dolan mandated isiah coach the team to significant progress.  do you think isiah could get fired from the coaching gig and stay on as GM under such circumstances?  If it were anyone else but Dolan in charge, I’d say no.  For all I know, maybe Dolan could have ordered Isiah tank these games to get a lottery pick–it has been done before you know.

Was this a better basketball team last year with Eddy Curry as the focal point?   There were a lot of exciting games last season, from the double-overtime victory in game one, to the crawford steal and three-pointer in denver, to david lee’s tip-in against the bobcats, to stephon marbury’s buzzer beater layup against utah, to eddy curry’s three point dagger against milwuakee, just to name a few.  have we had very many moments like that thus far in the season, 24 games having passed us by?  whatever the reasons, whatever the excuses, we’re not competing out there.  when people are scoring career highs against you, that’s a red flag that your team is in trouble.

    from ESPN Insider:

    Phantom Guarantee Motivates Pacers
    Eddy Curry | Knicks
A reporter who missed a deathly boring Eddy Curry interview was told jokingly that Curry had guaranteed a victory over the Pacers. Though the group of journalists laughed, somebody present apparently told the Pacers that Curry had guaranteed a win. And they apparently used it as motivation.

“We did talk about it,” Pacers center Jermaine O’Neal said. “You know I’m not gonna lie. We all thought it as strange especially being so early in the season and especially the team struggling, but I’m not going to knock him because they may need that type of spark.”

Memo to Pacers: Curry didn’t say anything close. — New York Post

    # Word circulated around the Pacers’ locker room before Monday night’s game at the Garden that Eddy Curry had guaranteed the Knicks would win. The only problem? Curry never said it.

“No, I never said that,” Curry said after the game. “I don’t know where that came from.” — New York Daily News

    Defenders,

It’s time for Zeke to make a trade NOW! Let’s not wait 15 more games!
I am sick about hearing that Artest is a gamble because of his behavior!
    Lets look at the facts!

    1. Artest has made it known he wants to be here!

    2. Is there a better fit for 8 million in the entire league
then Artest for this Knick team? Emphatic NO!

    3. Can Artest lead on the defensive end by example
and yell at players, even Marbury to tighten up
    the defense? Emphatic yes!

    4. Can we wait any longer? Emphatic NO!

    5. Should we all email the MSG PR dept with a
BRING ARTEST HOME MESSAGE? Emphatic YES!

    6. Is Artest on the trade block? Emphatic Yes!

    7. Does Ron Artest fill our Biggest Void? Emphatic yes!

Looking at the facts, we should give ANY comb of players
that will put him in a Knicks uniform!
Last question, does Ron Artest have Heart? Emphatic yes!
What the fuck are we waiting for????????????????

We need a leader who can lead by example!

  • Yes, let’s get Artest.

I’m right there with you Starburyfan on this post as you already know from my previous complaints. There is no possible excuse for the same starting line up. None.

  • Peaceman

    @ Paulnoize,

Berman is admitting that he was the beat writer that made that
up as a joke, but the Pacers ran with it! It’s on Berman’s blog!

  • You guys already know I think we should go after Artest.

I want to hear from the people that think we should still
keep this current team together…..that’s what I’m waiting for.

  • Syd

#1 hehe .. i read that in NBA Rumors earlier today. Anyway, water under the bridge now. Teams always get up for the knicks at MSG anyway, and players unexpectedly have career knights at our expense; I don’t think would’ve made a difference anyway in last nights game, even if the other team knew that Curry didn’t say it. They (Pacers) made it look effortless, shots were falling for them and we struggled to score the basketball, turned the ball over, and never showed up defensively. We have gotta change our mindset, we gotta believe that we can win and play like it. We cannot give up when other teams make a run, we must dig in defensively, and move the ball around on the offensive end to get easy baskets, stop being in such a hurry to score, we’ve got 24 seconds…. but then again we gotta make the easy basket too, that would help alot.

  • Guess who’s coming to town Christmas Eve to give us an early present?

I’m not really trippin off Lebron because for some strange reason, Q does
    a decent job on him.

If you really want to see how bad our defense is, wait till Christmas Eve.

Oh yeah….The Black Mamba is right around the corner and he already has his
eyes set on 32nd and 7th due to the fact he couldn’t play here last year cause
    of a silly ass suspension..

It’s going to be one of those cold nights here in the Apple.

    Let’s Go Knicks!!!!

  • bronxboy in Md

Whether that statement was true or not, I could tell from the outset that something had J O’Neal’s ire…

He started the game like a house a fire. He was definitely on a mission, talkin’ trash, hitting fadeways in front of the Knicks’ bench, talking noise on the way back downcourt.

I don’t recall ever seeing him that way before.

Do you think somebody put that out there to set Eddy and the Knicks up? If so, why would someone do that?

  • bronxboy in Md

Oh, ok….I didn’t know Spermy Bermy put that out there on Curry….

    That explains it.

  • Mike

Right on, Peaceman, Berman’s admitted starting the guarantee story. He was joking but someone took him seriously.

Artest would be another bad idea for this team. It’s going nowhere as presently constituted, and bringing in another head case is going to help? I’ll grant you that Artest is one of the most complete players in the game, and can affect play on both ends of the floor, and particularly on defense. But he’s as loony as they get, and hasn’t exactly gotten along well with his teammates in Sacramento. Do you really see him fitting in smoothly with whoever’s left after a deal–Crawford, Robinson, or Marbury? Yet another so-so shooter who demands the ball on 50% of possessions? This move would be classic Isiah: grab a name with no thought whatsoever for his on-court or salary impact.

The precondition to any improvement is getting rid of the idiot Thomas, but that’s a given.

This team will get better only by letting the bad contracts expire, or by trading them judiciously (and that means not taking back bad contracts in return). Next year, Steph and Malik Rose could be worth something. The key is to be patient. Don’t swing for the fences on a flawed player, like Marbury or Curry. Rely on the draft, trade for players at sensible money, let some of the clogged roster spots resolve themslves with time. You can’t clean house quickly because you take back the trash from someone else’s house in exchange for your own. And you can’t just trade without regard for the cap because it limits your ability to sign or trade players later.

The Curry-Randolph experiment is failing. The smart thing to do is decide which is most valuable, and move the other for a ball distributor. Big-for-small isn’t a sin in this case, because it’d be (1) addition by subtraction, and (2) possibly allow Marbury to slide to the 2, where he’s better off anyway.

  • Peaceman

    Yeah Bronxboy,

It’s in his ” Blame me for the loss ” blog!

  • D L T Knicks

Yes, I’m down for an Artest trade too. Where do I sign?

And how do we get IT to agree?

  • bronxboy in Md

Yeah, I read that. Curry wasn’t too pleased with that at all.

Maybe he should take that anger out on the court.

  • Syd

DaVonn, I try out to call out individual players; Knicks are very predictable, and is desperately lacking in team play. IMHO the post players just don’t move the ball enough; throw the ball back out, you know the double/triple team is coming, pass the ball….trust your teammate will give it back… our guards on the other hand must fake and break defenses down, then get ball back in to the big fellas as the defense will rotate from the post. Pass the ball, make it easy. As I’ve said before, our Knicks are trying too hard to win, team play that will get the job done.

  • bronxboy in Md

    @ Mike..

We’re better off with Steph “sliding” off the Knicks altogether for a “real” 2.

  • Peaceman

    Mike,

Artest has a 4 year old daughter, that may end up @ Sloan Kettering and @ another NY hospital for
a transplant! A Head case? Give the guy a Break! He would be Miracle on 34Th ST 2007!

  • Peaceman

    BTW

It would be a early Christmas present if Artest doesn’t play
tonight in NJ because a trade to the Knicks is announced!
If not, everyone watch him and decide if you want to email the MSG PR Dept,
and simply state ” BRING ARTEST HOME!”

  • Peaceman

Back at you from the previous thread!

Right now my mindset is about seeing what other lineups have to offer.

There is still time to see what a change in the starting five and what combination of players off the bench can work to ease this team’s plight.

But as others have pointed out. This team needs a dawg, a real bad boy, at least on the court, like Ron Artest.

Without some attitude adjustment from either within, lockerroom brawl where the last man standing is deemed leader, or a trade for a Ron Artest, then we’ll continue to be lambs to the slaughter.

    LAMBS TO THE SLAUGTHER!

    LAMBS TO THE SLAUGHTER!

AND ZEKE THE COACH IS LEADING THEM MERRILY TO THEIR DEATH!

  • Peaceman

    Knicksdefense,

I emailed you the MSG responds to asking them to put
all the preseason away games on MSG! You still have their email address?
If you do please post it for all that want to email them! Thanks.

  • Post - up Prince

If Artest can be attained, do it now. I am tired of seeing true small fowards burn the Knicks night after night. Usually, the most prolific scorer on most teams (except N.Y.) is the small forward–Lebron, M. Redd, Carmelo, Dunleavy, Pierce, et.al; we need to match up with a solid defender, ie. Artest. Offering Balkman and Rose could make it work under the salary cap. If Sacramento wants to unload Bibby as part of the price, then take him and offer back N8. A shakeup is necessary.

  • D L T Knicks

    O&B

I hear ya! I think everyone here on the blog is for Artest in Orange & Blue. If only we had a part ownership in the team.

As far as a line-up change.I think now is the time to give JJeferies more burn.Let’s see what he can do with more minutes in the rotation. It is not easy playing 8 minutes one night and not playing the next.Let’s use him for the next 10 games to see what he does in the mix.If he does show us anything, now we know for sure.I would play Q more at the 2(I’ve been saying this since the summer)bring in Crawford with the second unit.Maybe stop the Curry/Zach thing for a while. Play them together a short time.Curry works well with Crawford in the second unit.N8 needs more time too.Steal the minutes from Steph and Q.

Steph(because he is the only player who breaks down the defense and gets in the paint)
    Jones
    JJ
    Lee
    Zach

with Crawford,N8/Q,Balk and Curry.(Q for defense,N8 for scoring)

All I’m asking you guys to do is email them with your blog name, let them Know

  • DVJ, as far as previous thread goes, we all agree that one or two trades are necessary, but you can’t tell me that the current starting line-up is the best that we have. And you can’t tell me there is any good reason to not even TRY one or two defenders in the starting unit. There is no excuse for this.

  • Mike

    Hey, Peace,

I wish the best for Artest and his daughter. I’ve read a little bit about what she’s going through and it’s pretty frightening. He’s dealing with a lot–remember all the love Derek Fisher got during last year’s playoffs–and I hope this helps teach him to settle down. But he’s a scary guy. If you’d paid attention to him throughout his early career, could you be surprised when he went berserk at Detroit, and killed the Pacers’ season? Robinson’s calmed down a lot, but he’s in Stephen Jackson’s class as a belligerent player. I fear that combination…and not in a good way.

There’s no doubt he’d be an imposing defensive addition–rotating him and Balkman on someone like KG would be a pretty interesting strategy to watch–but I think the minuses outweigh the pluses. He demands the ball, and he’d be on a team with several other players who do the same. He has the attitude of an alpha dog but he seems to pay little or no attention to his teammates–a little like Antoine Walker used to be, and Steve Francis. He brings some real skills to the table–I absolutely agree with that. But I think the risk is still too big. I haven’t researched the money, and I don’t know what the deal would potentially be anyway, so I can’t comment on that.

And, of course, to reiterate, I hope his daughter recovers and his family stays healthy. My feelings about him as a basketball player have nothing to do with wishing him and his family well as people.

  • Steady

    Defenders,
I don’t know if you heard or read the news–Dan Fogelberg died of prostate cancer. He was 56 years young and living in Maine. Following the diagnosis in 2004, he began to battle the disease and became a champion for those inflicted. His music has touched many lives–”The Leader of the Band”, “Auld Lang Syne”, just to name a few. The real reason why I post this news here is to remind the men among us here to get tested (especially the African American/Black males age 40+). The PSA can be an intrusive procedure but knowing that everything is in order makes it all worthwhile. Defenders, to keep the community in good order, please do take this matter seriously.

BTW, the season is very long and the NYK will turn it around. You simply must believe. Steady as IT goes.

    KFLL

  • Peaceman

    I hear you Mike!

It may be noted that a Convicted Felon threw that beer at him!
The guy was just released from prison and…was not a nice guy!
He’s back in the big house now as we speak!
Tell me though, you think Barkley, Ewing, Oak, Mase, Lanieer,
Magic, Bird, Lambeer, Rodman, Jordan, Mourning and too many to mention would of acted different?
I really doubt it! The guy was lucky it wasn’t Sprewell, or he would have been choked to death! lol
BTW…Artest’s contract is for 8 million! An easy transaction for the knicks!

  • Defenders what up! Just getting in and checking in on my fellow NY Knick Fans. I see the cries for Artest is growing stronger…I can dig and I do understand it. A chnage is a coming. We may not know the when or where, but we may already know the why…LOL

GREAT shout out Steady as it goes! the PC is no joke and it is definitely nothing to play with. It is certainly a part of my yearly physical regimen. Gotta do what I gotta do..

Now it would be nice Defenders if we could implant Artest’s HEART and PASSION for the game in some of the chests of our current players. They’ve got talent, but they lack HEART and CONVICTION. In any TEAM process, sacrifice for the GREATER GOOD is always required. Too many characters and individualists, too few players with the HEART and CONVICTION to make the sacrifice. What will be, will be, and I’m down with this TEAM and the players that suit it up on any given night. WHY? I AM A NEW YORK KNICK FAN! Dream Teams are nice, but it is what is until the Change ah comes…

Got nothing but great respect and admiration for my fellow Defenders and the PREMIER HOST WITH THE MOST, BLOGZILLA/KNICKDEFENSE/STARBURYRFAN/ You the BEST! You the BEST!

Stay strong PARTNERS and I’ll catch Ya’ll on the other side in the AM…

    Keep it POPPIN!

  • PC

Jamal Mashburn said it best tonight on ESPN Radio: Artest would be a bad move. The Knicks need stand up character guys.

Someone needs to come in and tear our team up. We need a new look and it needs to be clean-cut, loyal and hard working. The fans deserve that much. No egos!

I personally think Artest would make this team no better. We lead the league in losses by more than 25 points. If he’s that good and can make up those massive deficits than he ain’t getting traded. He can’t even help a Sacramento team win more than 2 road games.

Please don’t let the desperate times make you guys think some wack job is the answer. Please

  • Marzak

This is the move if we want to make a run this year:

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=25~61~3194~2997~1718~2772~509~739~991~1828&teams=18~18~20~20~20~23~23~20~18~18&te=&cash=
(Chandler and Lee can be interchanged between Sacramento or Philly)
Although I’d really miss Fred Jones.

Artest does his thing and finally gives us a legit 3.
Dalembert blocks shots, rebounds and breaks up the Zach/Curry combo.
Bibby gives us a ball moving point with a better perimeter shot than Marbury.
Evans makes up for Lee’s boards and he plays rugged Oakley-like D.

Can’t imagine these guys getting beat on D often.

We’d be taking Philly’s 2 worst contracts so they can be players for free agents and we might have to somehow relieve Sacramento of a bad contract as well.

I would then trade Q’s bad contract for another player with an equally bad contract that can actually help us (with Artest, Balkman and Jeffries Q would be useless since he can’t hit the 3 with any regularity). Someone who can shoot from the perimeter.

    Starting 5:

    Bibby
    Crawford
    Artest
    Randolph
Dalembert (Curry’s skills are more fitting for a 6th man)

  • I can’t front, I like that trade Marzak.

  • Our defense would be top 5 in the league then.

Modi, I hear you about our bench and your right.
However, this came out from Zeke tonight…..

Isiah May Take Himself Off Bench?
    December 18, 2007 – 7:56 pm
    SI.com –
With his team coming off its latest embarrassing performance, Isiah Thomas said Tuesday he may have to shake up his roster if the Knicks don’t show signs of recovery from their 7-17 start.

“It’s safe to say that we’re not happy about where we are and I’m not happy about where we are,” Thomas said at practice a day after the latest loss. “And if we don’t turn it around soon, then yeah, we’ll have to make some changes.”

And he didn’t rule out having to consider the team’s coach. Thomas was asked how he would evaluate the coach if he were the general manager, and if he thought a change could be necessary there.

“That’s a better question in a couple of weeks and not today, but in a couple of weeks,” Thomas said. “We’ll see if we can come out of this. If we can’t come out of this, then those are fair questions.” [READ]

  • I think it’s safe to say that we should hope they don’t come out of this so we can actually see the changes LOL….

It’s about time Zeke showed he has common sense instead of always acting like we’re dumb at his post game conference.

Good for you Zeke, I like how your putting the team on a time limit now. They know their ass is toast if they don’t
    perform the way they should.

Even though he didn’t say, I think certain players are safe from that statement though.
    Lee and Zach in paticular.

Everybody else is in the oven for now.

  • How about this…ya’ll probably saw this already….

    Retirement Crossed Marbury’s Mind
    December 18, 2007 – 4:05 am
    New York Post –
Stephon Marbury is taking a vow of silence.

After speaking at length with a few writers following his Sunday practice, Marbury asked a Knicks PR official if he could skip speaking to media indefinitely to help him better cope with the loss of his father. The NBA has no problems with Marbury’s request.

Marbury told the Knicks official he would reevaluate tomorrow whether he was ready to face the press again.

Marbury’s 15-minute, brutally honest interview Sunday in which he admitted retirement crossed his mind made him relive all the feelings again and distracted his focus. He said the challenge of playing is as tough as being asked about the tragedy.

“For me the difficult part is I have to grieve in public,” Marbury said. “It’s harder for me as opposed to my brothers, sisters and mother.” [READ]

back to the drawing board….bibby and artest won’t be in the same uni if one or both or traded, they cannot stand each other. Artest is a great defender, yes, but more important he is severely mentally challenged and would be like gas on a fire. What happens if he decides to play “Rap Producer” again? That why he wants to come to NY and has nothing to do with the Knicks.
