New York Knicks, Knicks, NBA

Pacers@Knicks

December 17, 2007 – 12:17 pm

I haven’t any coupon codes for discounted tickets for the game, but here is the link in case you want to go and pay full price.

Let’s see, the Pacers are playing .500 ball at 12-12. Their roster’s primary threats include Danny Granger, another one of those high-energy scoring forwards types the Knicks (7-16) have had trouble with all season, Mike Dunleavy, a solid fundamental basketball player, former Isiah Thomas project turned all-star forward-center Jermaine O’neal, and Jamaal Tinsley, the crafty point guard that is better than you’d think upon first glances. First guy off the bench for the pacers is probably Troy Murphy, who was recently clocked in the face by Chicago’s Ty Thomas.

Veteran point guard Stephon Marbury comes back into the lineup, not sure if Coach Thomas will be inserting him right back in as a starter or as a reserve, especially since Crawford and Jones have played well together the past two games. I don’t necessarily consider it a negative thing if Steph gets the start; the knicks just need to come up with a few simple go-to plays that get them playing as a cohesive unit–if either Zach and Jamal are taking all the shots tonight, that’s an indicator that the team aspect to the basketball game is again taking a backseat.

Eddy Curry broke out of his slump with a 20 and 9 game, good for E City (remember that nickname?). The knicks are as healthy as they’ve been in the past two seasons with Q back and I’ve heard crazy rumors Jerome may even start playing? The good thing about health is you get to see what you really have in terms of the knicks basketball team Isiah Thomas envisioned, the bad thing would be that the kids (nate, lee, renaldo, collins, chandler, even jeffries and jones) will again have a diminished role on the court on account of your big-contract vets being on the floor for the majority of the game.

The knicks should try to build up their confidence coming off a big win over the Nets, a team that usually has their number in the past 20-25 match-ups. We beat them, so we should be able to take Indiana. I believe. I also believe the garden wants to believe. Tipoff is at 7:30.

  2. I think it would be wise to go with the same starting unit as last game
just for consistancy! Steph may very well add more value coming off the bench,
as the pressure is off him and he slowly gets to regain his game conditioning.
Zeke has said Steph has lost weight, so that may be a better indicator of having him
    come off the bench!

The Knicks need to show some Swagger in the 1rst quarter tonight!
Take to the Pacers from the start and not let up! We are healthy like
Knicksdefense just posted. We win tonight and there is new perspective
about this team from everyone! Time to make a run!

  3. Thanks for the tip on the new thread, Peace. i’ll repost some stuff from the last thread:

As i pointed out in the last thread, Artest IS NOT A FREE AGENT AFTER THIS SEASON!

Artest & Bibby as a package doesn’t work - they are not simpatico.

Folly, i know we’re not writing essays up in hurr, and everyone makes typos now & again. i don’t care about that stuff, but the constant your/you’re “typos” are hard to take.

Then there’s straight-up ignorance, like using “owners” instead of “onus” and “dew” instead of “due”. When i see Knick fans use lines like “Gotta give credit where credit is dew” and “the owners on the teams players for the current poor play” - i cringe. It’s the same basic reason why i cringe when i see Eddy Curry look at a potential rebound instead of jumping and grabbing it….

Anything worth doing is worth doing right.

Imagine Charles, if your auto mechanic scoffed at your concerns about a new engine noise after a repair, claiming “Bitch, you ain’t racin’ in the Indy 500 is you?”

Or your wife setting out some burnt chicken, saying “Charles, it’s not like the Pope is coming over for dinner tonight!”

i think the Lee/Malik for Artest deal makes the most sense for both sides, unless Miami is willing to up the ante and pitch in other considerations. We might need to swallow Reef or Thomas’ contracts to get Ron-Ron here - and still give up Lee, Taz or both!

  4. That Greenberg article was disgusting. I am disquieted by the “MSM consipracy theorists” in here, because largely I think the so-called “MSM” doesn’t exist. In fact, it is the downright desperation to differentiate yourself from the pack that largely leads to the half-truths and outright hostility that plagues news stories on the Knicks - or news stories on Iraq, the stock market, the 2008 Presidential race, etc etc etc.

But this whole “Isiah lost the locker room when he ignored the players voting Steph to not play after he left the team” story really irks me, because it is a media-driven story. I have not heard one single player go on the record to voice their displeasure over this. Does anyone have any hard evidence that this vote even took place, much less that Isiah “lost the team” over it?

Also, i hope there is no creedence to the reports that the Knicks are going to buy out Malik’s contract - why give up a trade asset? Who cares if Malik’s feelings are hurt - for all the money he’s made in the orange and blue for doing next to nothing, my man should zip it shut and deal!

  5. Classic Zeke moment from back in the day here! Go watch it, it’s a short video clip and worth it for the close-up of Bobby Knight’s expression alone!

Can’t say i have ever heard the term “sunt” before, LOL. =)

  6. Disgruntled forward Malik Rose was a no-show at yesterday’s practice. A team spokesman said Rose’s vehicle was blocked in by the snow. The rest of the team, however, all made it to the practice facility in Greenburgh.

    Another funny - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6M-Ppp3JVg
Eddie Jones inbounds the ball to an official, thinking it was a teammate! i know it’s not Knicks-related, but its kinda cute.

  9. PaulNoize,

I’d like to see your view on tonights game and your breakdown of what the Knicks have to do
to keep this Net game momentum going!

By Peaceman on Dec 17, 2007 at 1:06 pm

  10. Funny thing is that Isiah approached Knight beforehand because he didn’t know what to say as he was being honored as the Hoosier celebrity of the year at a local golf club - and Coach told him to make jokes at his (Knight’s) expense!

Video courtesy of http://thebiglead.com/?p=3925, which pops up in my Google sidebar every now and again and has some funny reads.

Tonight should be a fun game….Jamaal Tinsley has been playing out of his mind this year, i hope that recent shooting business has him distracted and less effective. i don’t know why the Pacers’ equipment manager was with Tinsley’s crew at nightclubs in the late AM, but i do hope he regains full mobility after being shot in both elbows. Every healthy day is its own blessing. =)

  11. It may be noted that Isola whines about too much Garden security
and censorship! The Pot is calling the Kettle Black!
Anyone see the obsurb amount of security on his blog to post?
You have to register and then type in Cryptic codes to post!
No wonder his blog is going down in flames! No one in there right
mind will go through that bull to post there, that’s why Drossman who is
out of his mind is his lone poster!

  12. Ron Artest has a player option for next season for $8.4 million. He can take the $8.5 million, and play another season in Sacramento, then become a free agent in 2009.

Or he can choose to become a free agent. No one knows what he’ll do (not even Ron) until June, but given his history of voicing dislike for losing and for living in Sacramento, he might opt out, and become a free agent. Especially if he plays well enough to earn a decent contract offer from another team. Would he? Doubtful… not too many teams out there might take “the risk” on their team, and if they did it would be for a short-term contract that pays around $6-8 million, tops.

I could see a team like San Antonio signing him, to replace Brent Barry, for the mid-level exception. But only if they failed to repeat as champs. Or better yet, a team that needs to role the dice, like the Houston Rockets. Only teams that need to gamble are going to roll the dice with Artest, you know?

Nice post, Orange and Blue. Looking forward to tonight’s game!

  13. Paul say:

“Anything worth doing is worth doing right.

Well, we all have our differing life philosophies and pet peeves, don’t we. I guess one of yours involves typos, spelling and bad grammar. Fair enough. I just think it’s about setting the right expectations.

If my mechanic went on like you describe, damned straight i’d be pissed cuz i paid the man good money to get it done right. As for my wife, I’m lucky that I snagged a pretty good cook, so if she did set out some burnt chicken I’d be concerned cuz that’s not how she rolls. She’s set different expectations for me.

In here, with a wide/broad/deep collection of BFAM, I don’t think it wise to expect a high degree of writing excellence from most. We all have our areas of expertise and writin’ don’t gotta be one of em.

I say it’s petty and picayune to pick on the prose to that degree. For me, it’s more distracting to read over corrections to typos and wotnot when we already bloody well know what you meant the first time. It’s nbd. And this is from me, a guy who really does appreciate good writing and makes some effort to roll out same.

That’s what I meant about essays up in hurr. If KD was a series of expositions on the Knicks’ future and fortunes from acknowleged knowledgeable and erudite scholars then, fine, I’d be more annoyed with the mistakes. But since it’s not, I’m not. We’re just a bunch of fans spoutin off our ideas, frustrations, dinks an dunks. I level-set accordingly.

Tip: if your two year old wets the bed, don’t freak out too much. ;-)

By Malik Rose aka Charles Follymacher on Dec 17, 2007 at 1:25 pm

  14. i agree Steph should come off the bench and back up Fred & Jamal - in fact, this may be the role he faces going forward in his NBA career as a scoring combo guard off the bench.

The Pacers - i dunno, i don’t think they have many great players but they do play well together. They got off to a hot start this season. i think the key is to take the ball out of Tinsley’s hands and make their wing players handle the rock and make plays.

If we just pack it in and yield open jumpers from the perimeter, i think we play into their strengths. i think Jeffries gets the call on Granger - i’d like to see Q sit until he’s fully healthy, not just healthy enough to play.

Offensively, i think they are very soft up front. JO is a baller no doubt, but i think we should go to Eddy early and often down low, try & get JO into foul trouble. Their other bigs are journeymen so lets exploit our depth! Foster, Murphy, Harrison don’t impress me as game-changers.

We will need to communicate out there because Indy is an unselfish team who will swing the ball around, make crisp cuts, set strong picks, etc. They have snuck up on some people this year and a win tonight would put them over .500 - lets keep them drowning below the water line like the rest of the sad, sad East. =)

  15. Good insight @ Paulnoize!

Damn this blog is jumping! looks like there is a lot of Positive vibes
going on here due to the Knicks breaking the Kidd curse!
    Keep it coming guys!

By Peaceman on Dec 17, 2007 at 1:32 pm

  16. Paul Noize: Thanks for the correction on Artest’s contract.

Kings thus have more say and time in Artest deal and can afford to wait until end of this season. At that point, Artest is a restricted free agent, and if I understand the
NBA rules on same, Kings can deal him on a sign and trade or match other team offers. Yet optimal time for Kings to trade Artest is before this year’s trade deadline, when they can attain maximum value. The team that owns a player in a sigh and trade usually has to accept lower value unless they are prepared to match ans swallow bigger contract. We both agree that Rose should be kept to ease cap restrictions next year
or used as trade bait for ugrade value (Artest) this year.

By Post-up Prince on Dec 17, 2007 at 1:37 pm

  17. Fair ’nuff, Charles…i don’t know that asking grown men and women to know the difference between your and you’re is “demanding writing excellence” ‘zackly, but i get your your essential point that most Americans could care less about that kind of stuff.

i’ll try not to let it bother me much, but don’t expect me to totally suppress one of my more annoying quirks on this here ‘blog. KD can ban me for it if he chooses. =)

Do you watch “The Wire” on HBO? I am so inspired/saddened/educated/entertained by that show, and i think it would be priceless to have a session videotaped where you & a few of the more outrageous characters from this blog sat down and debated a few of the show’s premises. This blog though does not deserve to be hijacked with such high-falutin’ concerns - we’re here to cheer for the NYK!

By PaulNoize on Dec 17, 2007 at 1:38 pm

  18. Artest kills his own value by being so candid in interviews….he basically says he’ll walk away in a moment from the NBA if his daughter needs him.

Mind you, i imagine looking into the eyes of your four year old daughter as she’s undergoing chemotherapy makes the glitz and glamour of the NBA, rap videos, luxury restaurants, etc seem very unreal and unimportant…..here’s hoping Diamond Artest lives a long, happy, healthy life.

By PaulNoize on Dec 17, 2007 at 1:43 pm

  19. Ok Paul, just do me a favour and don’t bother posting a correction to a typo/spelling mistake if the error doesn’t materially change the meaning. FWIW, those kinds of errors used to bug/surprise me too but one of the benefits of aging (if you’re lucky) is increased mellowocity.

“The Wire” is my favourite show, no doubt. But this ain’t really the place to discuss it. Why don’t you start up a blog, PN?

    p.s. MOI, outrageous character!? ;-)

  20. FYI
Eddie Curry turned 25 years old December 5TH.
Had he spent 4 years in College, this would be his second or
third season as an NBA player! Just to instill proper perspective,
this guy still has time to improve.

By Peaceman on Dec 17, 2007 at 1:49 pm

  21. Anyone else here really interested to see what Randolph can do?

By Charles Follymacher on Dec 17, 2007 at 1:50 pm

  22. Peaceman, a guy who leaves college early (or doesn’t go at all) still gets an “education” in the NBA. Guys tend to reach their NBA maturity by third or fourth year in the league. I think we can be very confident that Curry’s about maxed out whatever potential he has. This is it, folks.

    Even Zeke sez so.

By Charles Follymacher on Dec 17, 2007 at 1:55 pm

  23. Wow, I just realized I just linked a Frank Isola article! So that’s where he works! K. Cool. Now I know. Uh, he doesn’t twist up quotes does he? Should we not believe the quote from Zeke re Curry?

By Charles Follymacher on Dec 17, 2007 at 2:06 pm

  24. I’m assuming you mean Randolph Morris. Yes dammit! Yes!! Damn Summer league teaser. They only had a two year contract with him. Why not see what he could contribute?

    Free Randolph Morris.

    Free Jerome James??

By Jay Bee on Dec 17, 2007 at 2:06 pm

  25. Paul,

You are talking to a wall if you think that you are going to get these guys to spell correctly, use proper grammar or use words in proper context.

I’d like to add one more to your list……….its lose, not loose as so many of you say here.

I know that we aren’t all Rhode’s scholars but that was taught in 1st grade. Even African (the self described uneducated soul) made it through grade school.

By John Q on Dec 17, 2007 at 2:15 pm

  26. Follymach:

Your point regarding our favorite Munster Eddy is well taken.

Here’s a question that I’ll pose to you and any other defender regarding the Big Enigma.

I hear about things such as Big Man Camps and Shooting Coaches, and the use of former greats to tutor current generation players. Orlando has used some of these measures in further developing the raw power and potential of Dwight Howard.

Howard has also shown his gumption for self improvement by muscling up to become the current post monster that he is.

Does anyone here either think or believe that Curry’s potential might not have been properly or still fully developed?

By this I ask, why would Isiah, as KnicksD once eloquently pointed out, still stick with using Mark Aquire to limit Curry’s development to “Fat Man” post moves? Shouldn’t part of maximizing whatever talent or residual potential Curry has or still has be better served by investing a bit more in a game plan that could have helped him better hone whatever talen he still may have.

By this I am asking, whether any of you guys is aware of Curry ever being sent, by way of an off season conditiong program, to a Big Man camp. Has he ever been asked to work with a shooting coach to give him more options further out of the post? Has Isiah ever considered a Hall of Fame calibur great to coax Curry development and game any further?

Don’t get me wrong, conditioning I take to be a personal point of emphasis, and Curry seems to be looking more like the Pillsburry Doe Boy nowadays than Gangbusters, so maybe that says something about his desire to chisle himself physically into the defensive player he still might become– if ever at all.

    Last random thought.

Did anyone even consider Isiah’s use of the word “Funt” in that video posted here by PaulNoize as indicating something about Zeke’s Player-Coach relationship with Knight that might have carried over to Zeke during his current forays as a coach executive etc. B/c for me it seems that it is well known that Knight has an acerbic personality that has been higly documented. I wonder if any of that personality rubbed onto Isiah and manifested itself upon his style of GM’g or running an organization?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not defending anything Thomas has been alleged to have done b/c he is a grown man and more than smart enough to learn decorum in the workplace.

  27. Johnny Q

You’re right I misused Loose instead of lose. I’m not apologizing for it b/c it didn’t ruing the context of the point I was trying to make. But I think things like that tend to happen when I’m writing from the stream, and I all but forget to review what I put out before I hit send. Believe me if I have to whip up an official document for business or work-related purposes that won’t occurr.

But if you wan’t to be the spelling and grammer police. Knock yourselves out.

  39. Good PM Defenders!

I hope this message finds all of you in good health and in good spirits. I thought I would peek in on the THREAD to check in with the most informed and passionate Knick Fans in the Blogosphere. Once again, I want to give PROPS to our Host Mr. BLOGZILLA/KNICKDEFENSE/STARBURY, for allowing ALL OF US to hang out in his HOUSE and for trying to keep the content tight and up to date….You’ve got game BLOGZILLA, you’ve got game…

IT’S GAME DAY DEFENDERS! GO KNICKS! GO KNICKS! Steph is back, JJames is practicing, and the squad is as healthy as it has been all season; so let’s see if they can gain some necessary traction and keep the wins coming. Tonight’s opponent will not be easy and one thing you can be sure of, the Pacers will compete. Before I bounce, here is little something, something for your Heart and Soul Defenders. Oh, the Defenders that are concerned with spellcheck and grammar. Ebonically speaking, we’re just blogging partners, ain’t writin no thesis or nothin…Wee’s be bangin! I’s out…

In my life time I have been blessed to have many heroes in my life. Funny thing, they were not athletes, entertainers, coaches, or political figures. They were ordinary Men and Women that touched my life greatly. For example, MY MOTHER; My Maternal Grandfather and Grandmother; their siblings who were/are my Aunts and Uncles; Ms. Lucille Richards and Her Dad, called Pop; both watched over me while I was young and slinging in Fort Apache, while my parents were working hard; and our relationship stayed strong even after adulthood… The list could go on and on and on…Godly, Decent Men and Women that have influenced my life (William Saunders Crowdy, W.E.B. Dubois, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Dr. Howard Thurman, Rabbi Levi S. Plummer, Rocky, Mr. N. Barnes, and so many more)!

I am so thankful that God placed these heroes in my, because they help shape the Man I’ve become today! If I have fallen short, it is not their fault…LOL

Have a great day and God bless Defenders!

    Today’s Quote
Without heroes, we are all plain people and don’t know how far we can go.

    Today’s Scripture
“But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the righteousness for which we hope.” Galatians 5:5

    Today’s Word
What are you expecting in life-good things? Bad things? Big things? Little things? Anything at all? God wants you to get your hopes up! The Bible says, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for.” One definition of hope is confident expectancy. Did you know you can’t even have faith if you don’t first have hope?

Your expectations set the limits for your life. If you never expect anything good, you’re never going to receive anything good. If you don’t expect things to get better, then nothing will get better. God promises to meet you at your level of expectancy. That’s why Jesus said in Matthew 9:29: “According to your faith be it done unto you.” One translation simply says: “Have what your faith expects.”

Make the decision to expect the favor of God in your life! Start expecting to overcome every challenge you face! Start expecting God to meet all of your needs! Live every day of your life filled with anticipation that God is going to bless you exceedingly, abundantly above and beyond your wildest dreams!

    A Prayer for Today
God, I want to grow in my faith this year. I believe that You want the best for me. Help me learn to expect to be blessed and to face challenges with the confidence that You will see me through. Amen.

Sorry sweet heart! Whats your real name again?

By Peaceman on Dec 17, 2007 at 4:16 pm

  45. punctual ????

you mean I can be on time ? thats what I’m talking about moron. Its literal not punctual. Keep trying to sound intelligent peace, you dig your own hole.

By John Q on Dec 17, 2007 at 4:18 pm

  46. WTF!
    I actually agree with Folly!
Whenever you go on a sports blog with guys(hopefully), and get annoyed at spelling errors, something’s wrong somewhere.
With a superbly illiterate like me, you should be happy you can understand what I’m trying to say.
To expect proper grammer and spelling… this is not the place.
If it bothers you that much, why even read to aggravate yourself?

    Paul:
We had that discussion before over at KK. Peaceman summed it up quite nicely. My sentiments of course.

Indiana poses many problems for us.
They have guys with size that can shoot the rock.
My biggest disappointment has been Zeke the coach, that would not match up, but continues to play small ball.
Indiana is a big team at every position, so Jefferies and Balkman should play major minutes.
Marbury, Crawford and Q would not cut it againt Tinsley, Granger and Dunleavy.
This could get ugly real soon if Zeke keeps this trio in there for extended minutes.

I don’t care how many points Crawford had against N.J.
I maintain that Craw is not a starting two in this league. He can get away playing the point against a passing point guard, but every two in the league eats him up.
Craw is best used as a spark plug off the bench on a winning team.
Playing Craw heavy minutes at the two almost guarantees you’re a losing team.
He gives up more than he can score, and when he does score, it’s with so many shots.
He was efficient against Jersey, which is the exception.

  47. LOL Mr. Spelling and Grammer,

In your quote to O&B you stated his words ” were like rain OF a Ducks back.”
Didn’t you mean OFF A DUCKS BACK? What a perfect example of a bitch that bitches
about spelling and grammer and then misspells his own shit! What an asshole!

By Peaceman on Dec 17, 2007 at 4:24 pm

  51. Peace,

    hahahahha.

I missed a letter. shoot me. At least I know what the words mean and how to use them without an open dictionary or thesaurus in front of me. Come by anytime bitch. We’ll work on your GED. As I said before, I don’t go looking for typos. Blatant misuse of words and obvious spelling errors (dew, loose, etc.) aren’t mistakes. I just want you to sound intelligent w/ more people than just the other morons you hang out with on the street corner.

I love how when someone challenges you, you revert back to 6th grade and start name calling and whing like a mary. Are u still an infant ? Are you going to say something mean about my mother now ???? What a clown !

By John Q on Dec 17, 2007 at 4:43 pm

  52. Easy does it fellas….retreat to neutral corners. We’re all Knicks fans here.

i didn’t realize quite how vehement the response would be from Defenders on “the issue” i brought up earlier. i’ll try to remember it the next time i see some heinous shit spilling out from someone’s keyboard.

Peaceman, don’t take it out on John Q, who merely tacked on a harmless aside to my original comment. You’ve already hinted that i’m gay (still haven’t found that poll - you wouldn’t make that shit up would you?), i’ve been chided TWICE by Folly and even the Holy Roller Cooleyhigh took a shot at me somewhere in his seventeen page sermon masquerading as a Knicks post!

i think Defender Nation has spoken loud and clear on this issue and it is beaten to death. To paraphrase Digital Underground, spellhowyalike…..and if you’re dirty, then go take a bath. =)

As far as Zach’s outlook for tonight….unless JO is covering him he should be able to get plenty of good looks. i’d prefer to see him serve more as a decoy and continue to develop the high-low passing game to feed Eddy in the post. We need to get Jermaine in foul trouble early, because if we don’t then he will have a MONSTER game against our defensively-challenged front line. If Jermaine & Danny start lighting us up, it could snowball into one of those nights….let’s be patient, keep reposting Eddy inside and hope the refs make good calls.

    LGK!

  53. LOL African!
I’ll stop! But what a way to fuck up! I’ve got tears in my eyes from laughing
at this HISTORIC QUOTE….RAIN OF A DUCKS BACK! lol lol lol!
Next time John Q, the word to finish your quote was either ON or OFF! NOT OF! lol lol lol!

  59. A JERK, sorry! lol

By Peaceman on Dec 17, 2007 at 4:53 pm

  60. African is dead-on with his comments about JJ and Balkman - i’d like to see them in, too.

i read somewhere that Isiah had a confrontation with a player in practice, and speculation centers that it was Nate due to his erratic playing time. But what if it was ‘Naldo?

Dudes are killing Balkman this year for not adding enough to his game, but he’s gotta get out on the floor to develop. With Q & Jeffries, we know what we’re getting….

i also side with African on the issue of Jamal. Jamal would have been a superstar in the 80’s with the way those guys played defense on the perimeter (not much), but in today’s NBA? He’s simply got to work harder on defense. Call it pride, call it toughness, call it professionalism, call it whatever the fuck you want or need to call it….fight through the pick and shut your man down, dammit!

If Fred & Jamal start, does Fred cover Jamaal? i think Jamal on Jamaal would be a mistake, and i really hope they try Dunleavy on Crawford, cuz JChuck will be in full effect - and will probably have a good night against one of the slower shooting guards in the NBA.

  63. African,

What are you detecting ???? Losers (sorry, loosers) hang out on street corners. That is what I’m trying to tell you. Does that clear anything up ? You have to tell me what you see. You are reading what I didn’t write between the lines again aren’t you ?

    Peace,

I’m a jerk then. You ignored everything I said to explain myself and took it personal. GL with being an illiterate.

By John Q on Dec 17, 2007 at 5:06 pm

  64. Graceful & classy Cooley, i wish blessings on your house. =)

Actually, now that i think on it - Steph may turn out to be a big factor tonight. i guess i’m one of the few pro-Marbury guys left around here, because he can play both ends of the court at a very high level at the same time when conditions are right. Of course, the conditions have never been worse than they are now for Stephon - but given how erratic he is, he may find it within himself to confound the critics and find that quality ballin’ inside him!

By PaulNoize on Dec 17, 2007 at 5:21 pm

  65. PNoize and JQ, lookit, it’s pretty simple. If you’re going to bother to correct guys on spelling/grammar on a blog such as this, you’re going to come off (at best) condescending. It’s really not necessary. Nobody likes being talked down to so surely you can expect the reactions you got, right? Let’s just leave this issue alone forevermore. Please.

    LGK!

(and “peaceman” you can quit it now, too ;-) )

By Charles Follymacher on Dec 17, 2007 at 5:23 pm

  66. oh and African, it’s not the very first time we’ve been on the same side of an issue. it won’t be the last :)

guys’ve been talking indy’s JO, but i’m actually more afeared of Dunleavy. and Tinsley of course. but i don’t really know indy’s style of play. styles make fights? howz this one match up?

By Charles Follymacher on Dec 17, 2007 at 5:28 pm

  67. O&B re #25, umm, I kinda think that your max is determined by aptitude and attitude. it doesn’t really matter what “camp” you send curry to, he’s just not going to put in the effort on a consistent basis. it’s in his DNA. you can’t teach desire, man.

By Charles Follymacher on Dec 17, 2007 at 5:34 pm

  68. O&B,
You know what’s good. Your advantage is still the fact that you speak and write three languages. If only we could all have such blessings.

    PaulNoize,
Glad to be of slower trigger these days and “in these here parts”. With #63, back to the Top of the Heap you go. Plus, adding the b-ball analysis with a multiplicity of entries qualifies indicating a passion for the NYK qualifies you as a King of the F’n Hill. I recall seeing your posts during the Marbury Blog host episode at Boils Berman. You are not alone (with your supporting view of Marbury). In fact, I’m Steady. If you did not know, I’m the 16th man–A REAL FAN (but that name is already taken by brother BARF). I’m with ALL the players and coaches on this team until IT and Dolan say otherwise. I’m STEADY.

  69. Follymach,

I made my point! I just hate anyone that says ” do as I say and not as I do.”
He started this only to make a complete ass of himself with his own misspelling!
I was laughing when I read his love letter to O&B and saw his greater than thou tude!
Paulnoize was cool with my remark! If any of you go to Hoopshype, you will see that
questionare about what I was refering to! Lets just end this by saying John Q correcting
peoples spelling is like Curry yelling at Balkman to play defense!

    @Paulnoize

I’m with you on Marbury! He can go two ways! He can either have the BEST 59 games of his life
or the worse! I believe in Steph as I believe in this team this year!
Though Steph may come off the bench, He still is a threat as a top 15 guard in the league!
Starks turned his to the bench role into 6th man of the year when Houston came to the Knicks!
I believe Steph will do what it takes for this team to win! We have to win tonight and our next game to
right this ship! We need step 2 to = 4 game winning streak! Something we didn’t do last year!

  71. Good News for the Knicks!

If you were watching ESPN, Jermaine Oneal has a very sore Neck!
He got blasted last game by a flagent foul, right in the lower neck!
Later in the game he got fouled hard again in the same place and went to the bench! I believe he had
radiology check his neck, but he’s beat up! Curry needs to put those 300 pounds against that neck tonight!

  85. THE PACERS ARE TOAST……FUGGIM!

By Peaceman on Dec 17, 2007 at 8:03 pm

  86. O&B ? of course, it?s all just opinions. I?d never suggest anything different. Nor would I ever suggest there is only one right answer to these questions. Indeed, that?s just the point. These are all judgment calls. Especially with a team that has so many problems, and needs so much. The point is, you think this year can be salvaged, from a standings point of view. I say, to what end? At the very best, they?ll sneak into the first round for the privilege of playing 4 or 5 more games. I can?t help thinking that, often, teams would be better off in the long run if they?d landed in the lottery and come away with a potential all-star on their roster. Okay, the playoffs are more than a moral victory because ? I agree - it benefits team psyche. Teams need to learn how to win. Yet you see the potential for this team to gel, and come together (much as they started to do last year around now). I?m not nearly as optimistic as you are. But I don?t believe anything I?ve written is negative in nature. It?s all about what would benefit this team the most. What you call wishing for the team?s demise . . . I call focusing on the future more than the present. SO . . . considering the hole we?ve already dug . . . I say let?s benefit in other ways. I want Lee and Balkman and Collins and Nate and Chandler and even Morris in games ?till they drop. I NEVER want to see Malik on the floor again. And let?s realize the team will be more successful in the future by having these guys gain experience and learn from their mistakes now ? even in crunch time ? and by adding a high lottery pick to the roster. That doesn?t mean trying to lose. It means not worrying as much about winning. Big difference. They still have to play with heart and guts and enthusiasm.

We disagree. I can live with that, and assume you can too. I don?t think much more has to be said.

    Peace.

PS ? I would do your trade at #177 (in the last string) in a minute, even if Shareef is out for the year. My fear, however, is that it?s not enough to entice the Kings. I think, ultimately, Lee or Balkman will have to be sacrificed to bring Artest. Yet I also believe there isn?t a better small forward in the league to pair with Zach and Eddy, too ? assuming Eddy sticks around. As much as I like Lee and Balkman, it?s a chance to add an all-star to the starting team and only give up players from the bench. No matter how important the 2nd unit is to the Knicks, you gotta make that trade.

    The Pacers are TOAST!

By Peaceman on Dec 17, 2007 at 8:05 pm

  88. Get Steph and Lee out right now! Their not in the flow, keep going to Zach!

By Peaceman on Dec 17, 2007 at 8:14 pm

  89. Wow - Zach is SIZZLING 15pts in the first quarter - including a couple of attempts behind the arc (1-2 there)!!!

Eddy reverts to last season’s form….no, not scoring-wise….turnover-wise. Four fumbles in five minutes. He’s made such progress this year, especially when it’s become such a point to attack the ball when he gets it, that this has to be discouraging.

No Taz. No JJ. The Knicks are 6-7 this season when Q plays more than 30 minutes - which is a scorching pace in the Isiah Era. i just wish it were as a shooting guard rather than as a Bruce-Bowen-with-a-Bad-Back small forward.

Shoot, Zach even got a blocked shot!!!!! Too bad JO is gettin his at the other end, but we don’t have anyone who even wants to try defending him - except for maybe Tenderfoot James.

What does Zeke say at halftime to his guys? Maybe he calls them a bunch of sunts, LOL =)

This team is very beatable, we obviously need to ride Zach. An old fashioned big-man shootout between ex-JailBlazers tonight at the OK Corral. Keep them 40’s of Crazy Horse on ice and let’s see how it plays out.

  115. Defense is overrated in today’s NBA, Stevie….this is a new era, where offensive skills trump defensive effort. Isiah is way ahead of the curve (as usual) and has deftly assembled a roster to exploit this new era with its rule changes and style of play.

A new Showtime Era has dawned in NYC! Conference Finals here we come!

Not so much that we lost, but how the Knicks just came apart in the second period and unraveled like cheap thread.

We are definitely gracious hosts….it seems as though someone has a career night against us nightly.

    Dorky Dunleavy….career high 36 pts.

Who the hell is guarding him?

WTF is Jeffries on the bench for? Seems to me he’s the guy to put on him.

    Shyt pisses me off.

  117. Oh yeah Paul, an offense that shoots 43% as a team. Are you drunk? That’s what you call showtime. What a ridiculous thought. You do realize that the Knix shoot 5% worse than their opponents on avg. per game?

They are nobody going nowhere except to the lottery again.

  119. I realize Zeke was trying to work Steph in, but we were rolling in the first quarter…

Then Steph came in to start the second, and the game got very sloppy, for both teams.

Not saying it was his fault, but the bad play coincided with his entry in the game.

Zeke definitely stayed with Steph too long Did he forget Fred Jones’ contributions between quarters? I don’t understand what coach was thinking.

This game is simple….find something that works and stick with it. Quit blowing shit up.

  120. Bronxboy and Peaceman

It seems that decisions by Isiah to play Marbury and have Jefferies sit against wonderbread Dunleavy helped do the Knicks in. In a sense Isiah deserves what he gets.

Stop trying to a friend of all the players and stop coddling your overpaid players.

Put in from the get go the best balanced starting five in terms of Offense and Defense and on occasions match-ups.

I really can’t argue against the “fire Isiah storm” when he doesn’t put the players out there that give us a better chance at winning.

All that said. It’s a darn shame that the opposing teams players can maul are bigs but when they get pissed and maul back.

    OFFENSIVE FOUL!

The playing field doesn’t favor the Knicks bigs, niether does there tendency to not maximize the opportunities that occurr as a result of strong double and triple teams–e.g., passing opportunities.

    Fuck man.

I really see no point in a counter demonstration unless the Knicks play like they really give a damn about winning!

Fuck off Tom and Stevie Knix.

    Fucking trolls!

Where was Jones? Rideing the pine behind Steph! Steph sucks! get his ass
out of here ont the first thing smokeing!!!!!

Listen to ZEKE, he sounds like a clueless fucking MORON!
I don’t know what Steph has on ZEKE, but Steph is a CANCER!

  123. Normalcy returns, this time at the hands of the last team to fire Isiah. The only big differences between Thomas’ tenure and that of Pitino in Boston are the harrassment trial and Dolan’s idiotic press policy. Even though Isiah’s manifestly unfit for his position–by any standard–it would help the situation if he could at least betray some honest frustration, like Rick used to. But he’s proven he has no professional pride, by making up whatever sweet talk he can.

There’ve been reports that Stern is trying to make Dolan hire a real GM. I wonder what kind of pressure Dave can use–I doubt Jimmy would honor any kind of bargain, where the NBA agreed not to suspend over the verdict, in exchange for firing the incompetent. He’s not gentleman enough, which is why he hired a self-avowed liar in the first place.

By Mike on Dec 17, 2007 at 10:22 pm

  124. Steph was attacking the basket tonight and was succesful at getting to the line.

But it does seem that the team does have a different tenor when Marbury is in the game.

Thomas looked like he was about to cry!

Almost as if he were totally ashamed of his team. He should be!

But some of the onus is legitamately on him.

Better substitutions and allocated playing time to certain players would have gone a long way to making this exchange with the Pacers more of a game.

    Boo tonight indeed!

Sure there are probrably genuine cancerous personalities on the team.

There is also the specter of a hater cancer emerging here on the Defense.

    Fuck yall!

  127. Fuck you Orange and Blue!

So you know agree with thsi assanine statementin #114?

Defense is overrated in today’s NBA, Stevie….this is a new era, where offensive skills trump defensive effort. Isiah is way ahead of the curve (as usual) and has deftly assembled a roster to exploit this new era with its rule changes and style of play.

A new Showtime Era has dawned in NYC! Conference Finals here we come!

I can’t call Bullshit Police on that ridiculous statement?

By StevieKnix on Dec 17, 2007 at 10:29 pm

By Orange and Blue on Dec 17, 2007 at 10:45 pm

  141. Is there anyway we can get rid of QRich?….We get absolutely no offensive output from him at the small forward position.
I’m tired of watching him clanging wide open jumpers night after night…shit, maybe he has something on Isiah why he still continues to start.

By Top Shotta on Dec 17, 2007 at 10:48 pm

  142. That’s why i thought it was curious timing that the old video of post-Indiana University Isiah surfaced today at TheBigLead, when Indianapolis came to town. I’d love to know where the “never before seen” footage came from, and wouldn’t be too surprised if the leak came from Isiah himself.

It could be a ploy to challenge the manhood of the Knicks, to not play like sunts.

That’s the guy who i’d like to hear about the state of the Knicks - Bobby Knight. He’d probably straighten out all of Eddy & Jamal’s problems in about five minutes behind closed doors….of course, he’d need a tazer and a folding chair to do it. And them boys might need to sit out a few games to ponder his words, LOL. =)

But i think we migth be blaming Isiah a bit too much…. OK, so he sits Q and plays Jeffries - would that have improved our 36% shooting?

Would Fred Jones’ intangibles be more valuable than Stephon’s scoring (Marbury 14 pts in 21 min; Jones 2 pts in 20 min)?

I’ve been begging for Balkman, who promptly shoots 0-5 - is he the answer at small forward? Or maybe it’s the rookie Chandler - do we throw him into the fire backed up by bigs who don’t defend the rim and ask him to help guards who don’t fight through screens? What does that do for his confidence and development as a player, and as a man?

I’m not so much worried about the cancer on this blog as i am about the cancer in the Knicks’ lockerroom. They need to build trust and unity to move forward, but it seems like things are getting worse. i am heartened by Zach’s efforts tonight, because he certainly has grounds to develop a “me against the world” attitude where he’s gonna get his - and instead he seems intent on being a good soldier and plowing forward (albeit with not much defense).

7-17…we need to find the catalyst. Ideas?

By PaulNoize on Dec 17, 2007 at 10:53 pm

  143. @ PaulNoize,

I can come up with a couple of quick fixes for this team that might have been mentioned previously, but I think the biggest thing is that Isiah has to be replaced.

I sincerely hate to say that.

I loved him as a player, in fact, he’s my favorite all-time behind the living legend, Clyde.

But to see what he’s done to my Knicks is truly incomprehensible.

You see, his greatest quality is also his worst quality.

    His loyalty.

He’s loyal to certain players to the point of killing this team, and unfortunately, those players don’t return that loyalty.

In fact, those players really don’t give a fuck about him.

And the players that really care and respect Isiah languish on the bench.

    Hence the dysfunction.

And the play reflects just that.

  149. Regardless of who has offensive skill, the teams that win championships always win because of how they play defense. The league may change the rules but the formula remains the same. Defense requires commitment, accountability and teamwork. We’re not there yet but I don’t doubt for a second that we’ll get there…this year.

  153. John Q

Accepted! I wont bring it up again! Lets just blog!

I’m the one who said we have turned the corner. I just didn’t know we turned it into
a brick wall! Marbury changed the little momentum we had going, and Zeke is to blame
for letting that happen! We can’t stay pat. We need a defensive stopper! We need to make sure
we are not beat by the likes of Wonder bread. Zeke needs to stop being a friend to
these players and Coach! I pray we trade Lee and Rose and whatever it takes to get
Artest here! Maybe Steph shoud retire? Maybe a change would be good for him in either
Miami, LA, or any team that needs a point guard! All I know is that we need to make
    some roster changes ASAP!

By Peaceman on Dec 18, 2007 at 9:19 am

  154. Peace,

I want to be enthusiastic like you were when they win against a rival like Joisey, but the Knicks are always due for a letdown after a good win. I almost felt this was going to be a loss before tipoff even happened.

The ball stopped moving in the 2nd quarter. Is Marbury to blame ? I really don’t want to place the blame squarely on his shoulders but, as many pointed out last night, that’s when the tempo changed. 20 missed shots ! That I can’t blame solely on Marbury.

I’m starting to question Zeke’s substitutions more and more. I don’t think Marbury and Jones should ever be on the floor at the same time. I’m also sick of seeing him play 3 guards in stretches. It doesn’t work Zeke! The Microwave doesn’t play for us ! This aint 1990 and it aint Detroit !

I’m with you 100% that IT is loyal to a fault. That can be the only reason he doesn’t mix and match his starters. I’d like to see him change the line ups. Why not exhaust all posibilities before making trades ? What would it hurt (besides bruising a few egos)? That said, Artest would be a welcome addition and IMO Marbury would be a welcome subtraction.

If he can’t see what we all see, IT has to be the one to move on. It’s that simple.

By John Q on Dec 18, 2007 at 9:40 am

  155. John Q

I agree with almost every thing you just posted! The one point I question is where
does the blame deserve to go? Yes, it starts and stops with Zeke. I’ll just say
the Knicks looked defiant when Steph was brought in when the score was tied 64 all!
Q Rich has been getting a pass, but he also has hurt this team on both ends!
At this point we have exhausted all posibilities! Time for major change.
This season has 58 games left in it and with the right change up we can turn it around!
There are no Durants or Odens in this years draft! So if even if we get the #1 pick
it’s not a franchise player! I say we get involved in a three team deal with the Heat and
Kings and work out a deal to improve the Knicks this year! Tomorrow if possible!

By Peaceman on Dec 18, 2007 at 10:06 am

  156. JohnQ:
Respect. It takes a big man to apologize. Good for you, but it’s always easier to apologize when the shit hit you in the face like it did yesterday. No beef though, just veggies.

“Indiana poses many problems for us.
This could get ugly real soon if Zeke keeps this trio in there for extended minutes.”

Sounds kinda prophetic if you ask me.
Zeke is above his head. He’s questioning himself, and that’s not a good sign.
Jefferies has been playing good ball lately, only to get a DNP against a lengthy team with shooters that we needed to defend.
Crawford and Marbury cannot be in the same backcourt together. Isiah already should have seen that.
Poor substitution patterns killed us last night.

I’m still obligated to hold my tongue re zeke’s coaching (where’s MODI?), but it sure looks like he’s still searching (scrambling?) for some better combinations. I think by now he should’ve crossed off a few.
