My buddy PEACEMAN has invited me again to post here in this Arian Nation.
Most posters in various sites concluded that the NYK starting 5 against the Nets was a cohesive unit. Without Lazy Eddie, team had better ball movement, better spacing, better & quicker rotation D, etc. Zach was also able to do his thing more freely within the flow of the offense without EC. I fully agree. However, a few or some even suggested that this should be the permanent starters and ship out EC.
That starting 5 matched up well with the Nets mainly because the Nets are a perimeter and a slashing team. They don’t have skillful bigs. Collins is practically a useless offensive player, Magliore is a senior citizen, Kristic is a question mark and high potential Sean Williams is still learning the ropes.
I love DLee and I’m very impressed with Zach. They’ll match up well against certain teams. However, against the Magic or an aging Shaq or Yao or STAT, etc… or Duncan’s Spurs….They’ll get killed in the paint. Lee/Zach don’t have the length to defend a Garnett or a Bosh.
EC has to go but who can you get for him? Only teams with established great D needing an offensive big man will want him. Perhaps a team like the Pistons or Celts could use EC to provide offensive spark off the bench.
STARBURY - about your header the Izod Ctr. a few days ago:
Quick anecdote about the Swamp. The Izod Center was built in the late 70s/early 80s (no, I’m not gonna Goog the precise data.) It was originally called the Brendan Byrne Arena. Anyway, in the early 80s (1981 or 82), the NBA All-Star game was held at the Swamp. The day before the Sunday game, my cousin and I were driving to go to the city when we heard on the radio that there was (free) open house scrimmage of the All-Star team that afternoon. Needless to say, bleep Manhattan and we went straight to the Swamp. First, the East team practiced and scrimmaged then the West team. We had good seats to appreciate the likes of Kareem, Bird, Magic, Parish, Dr. J, Zeke’s buddy Dantley, Moses, Tiny (even Tripucka ???) etc…. I couldn’t believe how long Artis Gilmore is/was in person. Kareem kept missing dunks during warm-ups. The crowd kept teasing him. The Swamp was only about 60% to 70% packed to my surprise.
During the West practice session, Lonnie Shelton was noticeably absent. There was a ‘buzz’ in the arena as to his whereabouts. He was the only M.I.A. Anyway, Shelton showed up when the West practice was about done. A few weeks later after that All-Star game, I heard on the news that Shelton was busted for drug-related issues. Great talent but strayed (or hung out with the wrong crowd.)
Anyway, that was the extent of the All-Star festivities back then. No big week-end of promotions, no 3 pt. shooting, no slam dunk contest, and what have you. No mainstream internetS back then. Wow, how things have changed and how time flies. And now, approx. 30 years later, the Swamp is considered a relic and its useful life is nearing its end.
Love and prayers to moron # 3.

African,
Did I make a distinction somewhere in my post about blacks or whites being on the welfare line ? I wasn’t going on a racist rant and never said that one race takes more advantage than any other. So where did I get it twisted, sir ? Don’t read too deep bro, you are the one creating an issue where there isn’t one.
I already passed a test to get my job. I wouldn’t now. Thats not the point. I buy my own trees( and apparently your’s too ). Thats the point.

According to Real Gm, Zo had to get between Shaq and Riley to keep it from

JohnQ:
First of all, it’s 60+ inches. Not 60.
You do know what I’m talking about, but let’s just let it slide.
So you’re saying, because of welfare recipients, you make less money?
Not true.
You’d still be in the same tax bracket and that money would be used to invade Iran.
Think about it. I’m doing you a favor.
You can come over to watch my Hi def, but we drink a lot of cool-aid and 40’s, you’d have to bring your Coors Lite.
The Hood is kinda rough though. Make sure you leave the Rolex and the platinum jewelry at home, and walk with a swagger.
You don’t want anyone to see Opey from a block away. That would be trouble.
I’ve also got all the past games on the new Tivo. We could make a whole night of this.
By African on Dec 7, 2007 at 10:29 am
Its the fact that I won’t have a Social Security check when its time to collect one becuase of welfare cheats that bothers me, not your race. Let’s get that straight pal.
I don’t like cool aid. Can I bring some Jack Daniels or Tequilla ? If not, will Corona’s be ok ? Coors light is piss.
By the way, its Opie. Do you even know where that comes from ? Not starting some, just wondering.
I’m 100% Italian w/ dark hair and eyes. I shouldn’t stand out that much. The hood doesn’t welcome me ? I’m going to be upset. White guys can’t jump but we can enjoy basketball. Do I have to bring my 45 ?

What would you guys think of sending Marbury and Curry for
Shaq and 2 of Miami’s 1rst round picks? That may work money wise!
Our starting line up would be, Crawford, Jones, Lee, Zach and Shaq!
I like the sound…Zach and Shaq! No way Riley and Shaq co-exsist
if Spreewell 2 almost happened! Also Shaq was born in Newark!
He would complete a full circle! Just bloggin!
By Peaceman on Dec 7, 2007 at 11:04 am
Peace,
Shaq has 0 interset in coming to NY. He’s from Newark but has a house in Florida since his Orlando days. Riley is a defense 1st guy. What would he want Curry and Mebury for ? Curry would be suspended before he got there for body fat content. If he suspended Walker, he’d exile Curry.

Thanks Af,
I feel welcome now. I’ll walk w/ my head down so nobody sees the white.
Happy to educate……….Opie is the kid ( Ron Howard ) from Andy Griffith. He was whiter than white ( think opaque ) with red hair and freckles. This is why black people use that term for us white folk.
I consider you a cheat because welfare should be used for food, rent, insurance, etc. not booze, phones, drugs, or other expensive electronic items. You are paying for these things on someone else’s tax dollar while you are free from paying those taxes yourself.
Now you can educate me. Where does welfare money come from ? What programs suffer due to welfare ?
So should I leave the 45 at home and bring the kevlar instead ?
By John Q on Dec 7, 2007 at 11:23 am

JohnQ:
Wear a hoodie, and pull it down low.
I have no education, so I’m no expert, but Social security benefits have nothing to do with welfare.
Do you consider yourself a cheat when you file your taxes with all the fake deductions?
Don’t cast the first stone. They’d come back at you.
You’re getting over on the system like most folks do.
The issue most have with welfare is along racial lines, because most believe that blacks take advantage of the system, when in fact most welfare recipients are actually white.
You wouldn’t admit it, and I don’t expect you to. But for many, that prejudice is so embedded, they’re not even aware of it.
Here’s some education for you.
By African on Dec 7, 2007 at 11:37 am
Peace,
I think Shaq is done. I doubt that he has the 3 years you mentioned. He probably has just about a year. Plus his contract will give the MSM ammo for 2 years.
I wouldn’t trade Curry yet. Unless maybe if it is for both Bynum and Odom or J Oneal (if we can add Malik to the mix) or Artest Brad MIller (for Curry and Marbury. I doon’t think any of these would happen.
Curry needs to find deep positioning and the guards should feed him early to beat the 3 secs. He should pass out when double-teamed, learn team defense and also dunk more and stop flipping the ball up 3 feet from the basket. And be a bit more aggressive. I watched Shaq’s elbows doing damage last night and said to myself that is what Baby Ed needs.
I think we should also continue to put Craw at the point and Marbs and Jones man the 2.
My 2 Cents

L-A-Z-Y E-D-D-Y,
Dee-Fenders, Do not read too much into the win the other night. The Nets are comprised of a bunch of FINISHERS,
that were w/o a set-up man. Carter a 2 or 3 played the point most of the evening. I am not complaining,
a Win is a WIN. However after watching the Knicks defeat the Nets(minus Kidd), the other night,
I am convinced more then ever before, that THE KNICKS NEED CURRY TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS.
While celebrating the win, what Dee-fenders appear to overlooked is that the Nets were minus their
Leading Rebounder(Kidd), playing their 4th game in 5 nights (tired legs), Kristic & Boone were out,
and EVEN STILL, the Nets BEAT the Knicks on the Boards 37-27. Why were the UNDERMANNED NETS able
to grab more rebounds,…because Eddy Curry was not in the line-up.
While on the floor Eddy takes up space & men. The constant double teaming of Eddy, always leaves an open-man
free to hit the boards. Teams are so consumed with stopping Eddy in the paint, that the Knicks are able to
CRASH the Boards and out-rebound their opponents. This is why Lee and others have had GOOD REBOUNDING NUMBERS
in the past. W/o Eddy the Knicks are played one on one, and rebounding would become an issue. This would
lead to the Malik Allens, a journeyman outrebounding everyone on the Knicks, (why can’t our Malik ball).
This would also be detrimental to DLee’s rebounding stats. His numbers are always better while playing w/ Curry.
Lee had just 7 boards in 38 min. against the UNDERMANNED NETS,(KNEE-DEEP be careful what you ask for). Detroit,Boston,Cleveland & Orlando would dominate the boards w/o Eddy to occupy 2 men.
The lack of fluid in the Knicks offense is due to POOR SHOOTING and not Eddy & Zach’s inability to play together.
The double teams on Eddy allow open shots, and the team is SHOOTING BLANKS. Q/31%, JCHUCK/40%, STEPH/42%,
JONES/43%, terrible…just terrible. If the outside shots were falling the offense would look better.
The Spurs have Gnobli,Parker,Bowen,Barry, around Duncan. Majic have Lewis, Turgolou, Nelson, around Howard. Boozer has Williams, Okur and other shooters. The offense will stagnate until JUMPERS are falling.
Curry ENHANCES the Knicks, he doesn’t hurt them. Those down on Curry be careful. If he is traded or benched, then some of your favorites numbers may fall.
Peace & Blessings
By STATESMAN on Dec 7, 2007 at 11:41 am
This was a very deep post Statesman.
I agree 100%.
I mentioned yesterday that Eddy is not as bad as most make him out to be.
He’s not good defensively, that’s why I proposed a trade.
Zach for a defensive minded shotblocker and a point.
Most teams could use a scoring post player, and we could get something pretty good.
Chicago comes to mind.
“Most teams are consumed with stopping Eddy.” So true. Most would hate to admit it, or just don’t open their eyes.
That’s one of our strengths.
Dan Majerle stated it on the Suns telecast. Curry is not getting in Zach’s way, it the opposite if anything.
The team needs shot blocking and a point.
By African on Dec 7, 2007 at 12:02 pm
I now understand that you think ALL white people are racist. Are you Farikan’s cousin or something ??? There are shades of grey my friend. Don’t be so fast to label someone a racist just because the color of his skin. If you ask me, I would say that YOU are the racist for labeling me when you don’t even really know me. I know the white establishment is out to get the black man. I’m not blind because I’m not privelaged to be part of the establishment. I have a degree in Criminal justice/sociology. My eyes are wide open.
I don’t have too many “fake” deductions to make. My job and assets are pretty cut and dry which doesn’t allow for much swing w/ the IRS. If I make these deductions in the future I’ll make sure to duck when I’m doing it.
The money has to come from somewhere. If not from Social Security, then from some other program it could be better allocated to.

I’m glad MAK responded to the Izod content because no one else did, but “Arian Nation?” Myself being a multi-racial American, I take offense to that remark MAK. that kind of stuff isn’t welcome here just so you know. This is a hoops family, not Zbo’s, but a family of knicks fans nonetheless.
“the Swamp is considered a relic and its useful life is nearing its end.”
I see it a little differently than that. When I go to the Izod or Byrne or Continental or Meadowlands arena, I am impressed with their building; I like that arena. I think it a comfortable place to watch a basketball game in. Modern, roomy, clean, I can breathe, I’ll even go so far as to say it is a better place to see a game than MSG, which is sticky and claustrophobic despite being the undisputed mecca of basketball. If you haven’t already done so, try taking off your jacket and/or hoodie while sitting down at MSG with people next to you. Seats are just too small for anyone over 6′, 180lbs. New York needs a new Garden and I guess the Dolans are overseeing that eventual project.
Contributing factors to the Meadowlands’ eventual demise are twofold, despite both being related to location:
1. all the development over there (shopping plazas and the new stadium being constructed) makes the real estate valuable. same thing with MSG. eventually they’re going to knock it down and put up a new one, some place else in manhattan. Where current MSG stands will be brand new office space and luxury condos. evil has won.
2. IZod has bad access for public transportation. If a patron has no car, it is just a pain in the ass to get there, weather you’re coming from Jersey, NY, or Connecticut. The Prudential Center in Newark is two blocks from a major transportation hub in Newark Penn Station, and that just makes it worlds more convenient for the people that don’t want to pay $20 for parking. For those that do choose to drive, there are many more options in Newark than the isolated Meadowlands as well. You know what happens when there is no competition, right? abusive pricing.
Incidentally, PATH fares are going to increase with congestion pricing to $2 starting in 2008, yet MTA fares will be more than $2 by that same time of course.

Great post Statesman. I’m with you regarding Eddy. I wouldn’t trade him at all. I would focus on getting him in shape. Isiah probably thought that some of these guys would play their way into shape, like a lot of the pro players do. The problem is, with Eddy it’s reached a critical mass. We don’t have 40 games to wait for him to catch his wind.
Which is why he should be doing some Tae-bo, wind sprints and running through the hood like Rocky, although probably running for his life. He hasn’t been a good help defender, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be. He just needs to get light on those twinkle toes and work on it methodically just like you work on free throw shooting or three pointers. He seems to be such a bright likable kid (no homo) I would hate to think that he is too selfish to not want to be the best he can be. You have to be willing to go beyond what you have done in the past to be great.

I remember just about a year ago. Eddy was a terrible free-throw shooter. He worked on that and even though he still misses a lot, he’s come a long way. I think he can learn defense however it takes desire an effort to do it. Plus running up and down the court playing defense and scoring guts a lot of energy. He can do it. I am seeing Zach, making the effort to play defense and even passing (He made a great pass to Eddy against the Suns.) These qualities can be acquired. Maybe some benching would do. Shoot!! that cannot be done because of the captain.
Trading is not the answer.

Jazz,
Do you believe that Eddie has the desire to make the effort to play D ??? I don’t think he does. I wonder if anyone ever told him that w/ 4 more rebounds a game he would have been a shoe in for the all star team last year .
By John Q on Dec 7, 2007 at 1:32 pm
I don’t agree with trading Zach!!!
I don’t think Curry will ever play defense.
If a good deal comes up for Curry, like the one mentioned above with him and Steph to Miami for Shaq…..I say we jump on it.
Why would we trade Zach?
What Curry doesn’t have…..he will never have.
He’s an offensive big man that’s out of shape most of the time.
Amare is an offensive minded big man that’s always in shape.
I’m not saying Curry needs to get to Amares size…but don’t sit here and tell me Curry can’t lose
another 30 pounds or so.

PHILADELPHIA — Stephon Marbury participated in the New York Knicks’ shootaround Friday, a day after his father’s funeral, and was expected to play against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Donald Marbury was taken from Madison Square Garden to a hospital during halftime of the Knicks’ loss to Phoenix on Sunday night. He died of a heart problem before the game ended.
Twenty-four hours after burying his father, Stephon Marbury sat in a locker room at the Wachovia Center and preparing himself to play here tonight against the Sixers.
“To be honest, I don’t want to be here,” Marbury said, “but it’s something I gotta do. It’s my job. It’s something I love to do. I just want to get back into the swing of things.
“It’s tough,” Marbury added, “but my father’s in the ground now, there’ nothing else I can do now but grieve.”
Marbury spoke to a few reporters for almost 10 minutes and expressed a wide range of emotions. He did say he had no problems with the Knicks not telling him that his father had gone to the hospital. He said his father would have wanted him to stay in the game.
“He would have wanted me to continue to play, even when he was in the hospital,” Marbury said. “My father was telling my brothers that he was tired, that he wanted to go to sleep. Right now, my father would have been telling me, ‘Go play, I’m all right.’ You know what I’m saying? The way how everything happened was the way it was supposed to.”
Isiah Thomas, who was among the mourners who packed Thursday’s funeral for Donald Marbury, said Marbury on Thursday night made the decision to play. Marbury will start and play his usual minutes.
“His grieving will go on for a while,” Thomas said. “Hopefully the games will be therapeutic for him. We’ll just deal with it for as long as we have to.”
Eddy Curry, who sat out against the Nets because of a sprained left ankle, had the ankle taped at the shootaround. His availability for Friday night would be a game-time decision.

Name other centers (OTP’s) in the league you would honestly say are better than Curry, faults and all. I’ll start it off:
East - DHoward, RWallace
West - Stoudamire, Ming, Cambyman (don’t say that 3 times or he’ll come through your mirror and block your shot)
Maybe I’m leaving somebody off here, but that’s the way I see it right now. I don’t see that many bigs shining these days. If I’m right and we’re talking about a top 6-9 center in the league, isn’t it worth developing him?
