Knicks battle Nets across the river in Jersey

by knicksdefense on December 5, 2007

The New York Knicks (5-11) will face the New Jersey Nets (9-9) for the first time this season tonight at the Izod Center (Meadowlands for the old school) in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

New York may or may not have Stephon Marbury available to start at point guard, since he is still mourning the loss of his father Don Marbury. If Marbury is out, look for Mardy Collins or Nate Robinson to get the nod.

Nets point guard Jason Kidd is in a duel with Cavs forward LeBron James for near Oscar Robinsonesque triple-double averages (Kidd: 11.3p 8.7r 10.4a, James: 30.7p 7.6r 8.1a) and the Nets also have Vince Carter back in the lineup, so it would be an accomplishment for the Knicks to get their first road victory of the season against this Nets ball club. Over the past five years, the Nets have simply dominated the Knicks.

NBA.com has the preview article of Knicks-Nets 2007 round I here.

>>>

In a related story (NJ basketball), I checked out the brand new Prudential Center in Newark last night at a Seton Hall-Saint Peters college basketball game. The new arena sparkles, none of the sticky floors or crappy seating of MSG and infinitely easier to get to than the Izod center via public transportation. Of course the Knicks are supposed to be getting a new building of their own, one of these years (behind the post office/future Moynihan station) but if the Nets franchise continues to struggle securing the Brooklyn Railyards property as they have been, the Nets are invited to move into this new building which seats 18,500 and currently hosts NHL’s NJ Devils. Regardless of where they end up, once the Nets move out of the Izod Center, that arena will probably be demolished.

Lawrence Fraud. Tomorrow MSM will say they should’ve won by 30. They’ll talk about how Kidd wasn’t there, won’t mention that we were without Marbury and Curry, two starters.

14 BARF December 5, 2007 at 10:13 pm

JCraw’s got a wicked quick-release when he steps into it off his dribble move. How the hell do you guard that?

Look at the refs and say “That can’t be legal!?”

Post game Zeke should be interesting!

19 Peaceman December 5, 2007 at 10:18 pm

I’ll tell you what! I’m eating Crow because I refered to Jones as a “throw in!”
You know what? Crow never tasted so good!

4-2 last 6 games! We got something here!

21 Peaceman December 5, 2007 at 10:23 pm

I believe that Curry being Hurt is noting but Actors!

22 bronxboy in Md December 5, 2007 at 10:23 pm

As I mentioned after the Bucks game, Zeke has got to make some very difficult decisions when Steph returns.

And Curry as well.

I know it’s just one game, but actually it’s not. I’ve noticed this trend for a while now.

The play is more fluid without them.

Two turnovers in the second half? When has that ever happened???

23 Jay Bee December 5, 2007 at 10:24 pm

Stat lines for tonight. Great games from Crawford and Zach. DLee we see you. Fred, solid all around job. N8 way to come in and contribute. Work on that patience though. Good win. Let’s build on it.

Curry’s going to Cali, to Cali, to Cali.
Just blogin’

26 bronxboy in Md December 5, 2007 at 10:27 pm

@ Peace, #221..

Exactly. How do you turn your ankle so badly during shootaround you can’t play that night?????

I say it’s a blessing in disguise.

27 Peaceman December 5, 2007 at 10:27 pm

Why can’t Zack work with Lee on that hidious jumper?

28 Steady December 5, 2007 at 10:27 pm

Nah, Curry is off to see the Wizard. Puff the Magic Dragon is playin’ on his DVD

29 bronxboy in Md December 5, 2007 at 10:29 pm

@ Jay Bee…

With regards to Nate, I think his patience will increase as his playing time becomes more consistent.

He’s an asset, and Zeke needs to use him.

30 Jay Bee December 5, 2007 at 10:30 pm

And the Oscar goes to (drumroll) Eddy Curry!! For his portrayal of an invalid. Hope he learns something while he’s out. Go to the Knicks home page On Demand Pregame and look at Crawford’s face when MSM asks him was he there when Eddy got hurt. He almost busts out laughing.

31 bronxboy in Md December 5, 2007 at 10:30 pm

I’d even go out on a limb and say if Curry plays tonite, we lose this game.

32 Steady December 5, 2007 at 10:31 pm

Crawford’s game is 360 when Steph is out. He played w/n himself 2 nite. Look at da box. Those are Steph-like numbers. Lee and Curry have bad handles down low. Curry needs to get better position down low and not just the -ooop! If he’s moved, I will welcome the baller coming back. I’m not weded to anbyone, I weded to the WIN.

33 Steady December 5, 2007 at 10:33 pm

Bronx @ 231.
Agree.

34 Orange and Blue December 5, 2007 at 10:33 pm

Nice win fellas.

Glad we broke two bad streaks tonight.

The Knicks winless streak on the road.

Our winless streak against the Nets.

I heard someone mention the possibility of LBJ coming to the Knicks in a just blogging way.

Here’s a thought, wouldn’t Nike, evil shoe empire and all, love to completely outshine the Marbury sneaker label in New York.

Well might such a scenario not entice Nike to entice LBJ to go to New York.

Perhaps Nike might increase his kicker if he lands in New Yorks!

Just Blogging.

What’s the word on the Knicks taking both games on our back to back against Philly?

Would sure be sweet!

35 Steady December 5, 2007 at 10:34 pm

Zeke calls Z-Double a throw-back PF. We have an All-Star this year.

36 bronxboy in Md December 5, 2007 at 10:34 pm

Eddy’s contract is definitely “moveable”…not to mention the demand for a “decent” big in the league.

We can get a solid return for him.

37 knicksdefense December 5, 2007 at 10:35 pm

tell you the thing i liked about tonight’s game:
fast break dunks.
d lee had a nice one, as did fred jones.
they cut down on the turnovers
and we didn’t have to worry about zbo and curry getting their shots, it just flowed better with only one post player in the offense.
of course jersey isn’t jersey without kidd, but we needed our first road win of the season, it’s already december.
i’ll take it.

Iverson’s got 33 points at halftime to kobe’s 13 on espn.

38 Peaceman December 5, 2007 at 10:37 pm

Zeke already stated Currys NEW position!
When he learns to play on both ends,
this will be his team…again!

39 bronxboy in Md December 5, 2007 at 10:37 pm

Speakin’ of Kobe…

Where’s DVJ?????

40 Orange and Blue December 5, 2007 at 10:38 pm

Also I think Balk would increase his playing time and value to the team if he worked on his free throw!

Pretty obvious right?

Say it b/c he gets alot of his point on put backs and slashing type forays to the Basket.

When he’s fouled he’s almost a non factor.

Lee needs to work with him on the free throw.

Also Jamal took us off the snide with his fearlessness.

Only Knick that won’t pass up a make or break shot.

love that heart. It’s a form of leadership!

41 knicksdefense December 5, 2007 at 10:39 pm

he was here around comment #80, i think…

42 knicksdefense December 5, 2007 at 10:39 pm

it was after that. he said nice shot crawford and bounced.

43 DaVonn Jefferson December 5, 2007 at 10:41 pm

Eddy’s contract is definitely “moveable”…not to mention the demand for a “decent” big in the league.

We can get a solid return for him.

Comment by bronxboy in Md — December 5, 2007 @ 10:34 pm

We should def be able to get a couple FIRST ROUND PICKS for Curry.

We trade Curry to a team that has 2 first round picks this year.

Remember my prediction about Curry, Marbury and Crawford?

I was wrong about Jamal but I couldn’t be more right about Curry and Steph.

Doesn’t matter anyway because when Steph is playing…Jamal seems to be useless.

I like this team with Jamal and Jones in the back court.

Yeah Kobe is hurting right now….somehow I think he’ll be back in the game soon and
should be able to bring the win home for all the fans in LA.

44 Orange and Blue December 5, 2007 at 10:43 pm

Question to you Defenders.

If niether Marbury or Curry are exited out of NY by way of trade, then how do we minimize the negative side of thier impact on the team?

Seems like bringing them off the bench might have a flip side especially since Curry’s game doesn’t match our “energy unit” bench.

With Marbury having him come off the bench wouldn’t be as bad a move but given all that’s transpired with Marbury seems like the team has to handle whatever decision is made about him with kid gloves.

45 Post - up Prince December 5, 2007 at 10:44 pm

Good to get a win, especially on the road. Lee improved his foul shot,
no reason why he can’t get his jumper down with some consistency and
confidence. Its probably psychological rather than one of fundamentals. He doesn’t look for the shot, and prefers to set pics and pass, rather than score. He must attempt the jump shot even if he misses more than he makes. Because of his work ethic, his outside shot should get better. Lee still managees to contribute even when he’s not scoring.

Does anyone still want to question Zeke’s trade of Frye and Francis for Zbo and Jones? Six of next eight games at home. Time to string a run of wins. LGK

46 Steady December 5, 2007 at 10:45 pm

That was a great scoop Jay Bee. Craw said it all with that smirk–Nothing But Actors. He can continue acting hurt until the Wizards tunes his Puffy breath for fire instead of smoke. Liked dem hard fouls tonite.

47 Steady December 5, 2007 at 10:46 pm

Hey St_George,
We’re praying for ya. Hope you’re still Steady out there in the EC.

48 Orange and Blue December 5, 2007 at 10:46 pm

Good Night Defenders

Looking foward to the back to back with the Sixers.

49 Steady December 5, 2007 at 10:54 pm

Orange,
That 2nd “energy” unit concept is out da window. Fuhgetabouit!! Zeke is going with matchups and keeping a scoring post presence on all rotations. Notice how Z-Double anchored the 2nd unit. That could be a “helathy” Curry doing that or even JJI. We lose too much firepower with an all energy crew because we have consitant shooters coming off the bench. That’s why I like an H20 rerun. Seems like Dr. Harlem sees it that way too.

50 bronxboy in Md December 5, 2007 at 10:55 pm

@ DVJ..

Yeah, you was dead wrong about Crawford…

The thing that intrigues me about Crawford in Steph’s absence is not only does he perform better, he makes everyone else better!! ….something Steph unfortunately has not been able to do.

If we could get two first rounders for Curry….man….
