Knicks get knocked out the box–or voluntarily step out of it

by knicksdefense on November 30, 2007

They didn’t just whoop them, the Celtics nearly doubled up on the Knicks last night, 104-59.

I can not dismiss the possibility posed to me by a fellow knick fan that the Knicks players deliberately tanked this game, because no NBA team should lose by this amount, let alone a healthy team with far and away the largest payroll in the league. The team I saw tonight, if this is how it is going to be, they’re headed straight back to the lottery just like that suburban dork Rick Kamla sarcastically remarked in the offseason Atlantic Division preview.

The ultimate dis tonight didn’t come from podunk Charles Barkley, or sworn enemy Reggie Miller, or even sour grapes Marv Albert, although each of them had their knick bashing moments on the TNT national telecast. No, the ultimate dis came when they cut to a shot from the crowd; to an older, chubby, understandably disgruntled Knicks fan who was representing with his knicks jersey. Having to sit in that hostile environment and watch that kind of a blowout, he took off his jersey and threw it towards the court in pure disgust, a gesture TNT captured with their cameras and played back to us in slow motion.  Maybe that one will make youtube.

So what are you going do, Jimmy Dolan?  Sit on your hands and wait for the Knicks to get better accidentally?

Looking for some nugget of wisdom on what I had just witnessed, I headed over to Knicks.com and got as far as this single sentence I’ll leave you with here:

Nate Robinson led the Knicks with 11 points.

8 BARF November 30, 2007 at 9:58 pm

GAME….OVAH!

9 DaVonn Jefferson November 30, 2007 at 9:58 pm

Limit Curry’s minutes and we have a special team here.

we had a team when steph got injured.

17 DaVonn Jefferson November 30, 2007 at 10:00 pm

I clearly said Steph, Curry and Jamal was the problems.

I was wrong about Jamal.

Was I wrong about Steph and Curry?

Curry needs to come off the bench or something man.

18 BARF November 30, 2007 at 10:01 pm

redd was incredible for a good while in the fourth. even fjones got faced up a couple of times and got a couple of redd’s jumpers in his mouth

19 D L T Knicks November 30, 2007 at 10:02 pm

My Colombian wife wants Marbury and Curry to “go fishin’”

20 Peaceman November 30, 2007 at 10:02 pm

Great move by Thomas to tell Redd to slap Marbury in the head!
Marbury then left to the locker room and took a cab to the Airport!

21 DaVonn Jefferson November 30, 2007 at 10:02 pm

Trade Curry now for something we need.

We don’t need him….

22 HarleminMD November 30, 2007 at 10:02 pm

Isiah,

You HAVE to get rid of Marbury. I don’t care if we don’t win another game this year. It might not be fair to him, but he cannot lead.

Gotta go!

“DVJ, STFU”

I concurr there!

You guys know why Crawford apologized?

B/c he is being taught to kill these manic depressive “knick fans” with Kindness!

Real Knicks fans keep it steady.

REDEMPTION PART 1. SUNDAY AGAINST PHOENIX IS HUGE. MUST MAINTAIN DEFENSIVE INTENSITY WE DISPLAYED TONIGHT. AFRICAN, WHEREVER YOU ARE, HOLD IT DOWN DEFENDER. WHAT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT AS OUR FATHER SAYS AND I QUOTE, ” WHAT DOES NOT KILL YOU, WILL MAKE YOU STRONGER”. I WILL REPEAT, WE MUST BEAT PHOENIX SUNDAY OR THIS WIN MEANS NOTHING.

25 bronxboy in Md November 30, 2007 at 10:04 pm

@ DaVonn,

I’m not saying Jamal is the answer to our PG problem, he’s not even our BEST pg….

But he’s the best we have at the moment, when you consider how everyone else plays when he’s got the “handle”….

26 Peaceman November 30, 2007 at 10:04 pm

It’s the truth, this team is better without Marbury!

27 HarleminMD November 30, 2007 at 10:04 pm

Jamal can get Curry involved. We don’t have to give up on Curry. But if he doesn’t perform, he has to sit. “The culprit shall sit.”

28 HarleminMD November 30, 2007 at 10:05 pm

Good call on Jamal, Bronx.

29 bronxboy in Md November 30, 2007 at 10:06 pm

The Celts are beating the Heat 83 – 51….wow

30 Orange and Blue November 30, 2007 at 10:06 pm

I’ll also take the blame for last nights debacle against the Celtics!

Why since I am paranoid I might have jinxed them by watching and blogging at the same time.

I usually don’t do that.

Yes hate me! I deserve it! I will accept all the blame!

Lol!

31 DaVonn Jefferson November 30, 2007 at 10:06 pm

You tell me to be a real fan and while the Knicks were getting blown out in this game….none of you “fans” were saying anything here.
I am a real fan and I was right on 2 out of 3 of my predictions.

Here come the shots again…LOL.

Telling me to shut the F… up LOL

Incredible.

Where was all this while we were getting blown out?

Why was I on here talking to a Celtics fan during the game?

Are you serious right now?

32 BARF November 30, 2007 at 10:07 pm

DVJ, Curry’s not a problem if we can get some production from ZBo and someone else big. DLee stepped up at the end of the game and gave up some good minutes. ZBo was facilitating on offense and passing the ball out of the post consistently in the fourth. he kept the ball moving and when the knicks needed a basket, jcraw stepped up.

dvj, earlier you shared your plan. unlike tom, i agree with your general plan.

come the offseason, we’ll have a draft pick. opefully we either get a PG or an uptempo or trade Steph’s expiring and the pick for a higher pick or an established star.

getting rid of curry for nothing is just wrong though. some nights, he is the difference for the team.

isiah has to find better combinations earlier in the game. but as long as we get a win, i dont care how long isiah takes to find the right combinations.

jamal stepped up though.

33 Vic Corbit November 30, 2007 at 10:07 pm

DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE. BARF, AFTER BEING EMBARRASSED BY RONDO LAST NIGHT, JAMAL PLAYED VERY WELL AGAINST A VERY GOOD MO WILLIAMS.

34 Peaceman November 30, 2007 at 10:07 pm

Hey I don’t think the Suns is a must win, we now have won 3 out of our last 4!
We will be fine if we continue to win 3 out of every 4! Hell 3 out of every 5!

35 D L T Knicks November 30, 2007 at 10:07 pm

Good win guys

Zeke needs to learn from tonite to keep winning.

We out………

Please don’t hurt em’

36 DaVonn Jefferson November 30, 2007 at 10:08 pm

Miami within 13 with 9 minutes left.

37 rush November 30, 2007 at 10:08 pm

This was sweet. 3 out of 4 aint too bad.

38 Vic Corbit November 30, 2007 at 10:08 pm

REMEMBER, THE NY AND NATIONAL MSM IS SALAVATING. SUNDAY CAN ONLY MEAN MORE KNICK EMBARRASSMENT. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. BAND TOGETHER AND COLLECTIVELY SHOW NEW YORK KNICKERBOCKER PRIDE.

39 BARF November 30, 2007 at 10:09 pm

DVJ, u make your bed bro. You think its easy typing through a whole game? You want better company?

You know where over-sensitivity takes you?

40 rush November 30, 2007 at 10:09 pm

How about our D? Not fucking don’t you think?

41 bronxboy in Md November 30, 2007 at 10:09 pm

@ BARF..

“Crawford apologized to the fans in the Garden”

Crawford is a class act…

Steph could learn a thing or two from this kid.

I liked him from day one.

42 Peaceman November 30, 2007 at 10:10 pm

We also need more Picks set for Crawford! He’s our leader as of tonight!
I like him and Jones together!

43 DaVonn Jefferson November 30, 2007 at 10:11 pm

Anybody watching that kid Cook on Miami?

Remember who told you about him this summer?

44 Orange and Blue November 30, 2007 at 10:12 pm

DVJ

Got nothing but love for ya, (no homo)!

Your this crews designated team destruct button and resident GM!

Me I guesse I’m to upbeat to just go buck wild when the team looses even as pathetically as they did yesterday.

45 Orange and Blue November 30, 2007 at 10:12 pm

Jones played tight on Redd even though that boy got some nice shots off anyway.

46 Vic Corbit November 30, 2007 at 10:13 pm

DAQUAN COOK IS A SCRUB.

47 bronxboy in Md November 30, 2007 at 10:14 pm

Do you guys realize having Jamal at the point addresses several issues???

1. It gives us a bigger pg..

2. Everyone plays harder because they like him….

3. Because Jamal knows his sweet spots, Curry is more active OFFENSIVELY, which makes him more active DEFENSIVELY…..

Zeke has a dilemna….what to do with Steph, or better yet, how to tell him he’s being demoted.

Fuck him if he can’t deal with it…Shyt, it’s about team success, not Steph’s success.

48 Vic Corbit November 30, 2007 at 10:14 pm

WHAT SOME DEFENDERS FAIL TO REALIZE IS YOU GO WITH YOUR HORSES, NOT YOUR PONIES. LOOK WHO WAS ON THE FLOOR WHEN IT WAS WINNING TIME. ENOUGH SAID.

49 BARF November 30, 2007 at 10:16 pm

I wish it were easy to hide Stephon somewhere until we need him off the bench.

But at his payrate…hiding him isn’t an option.

Our only hope is that Isiah takes him out of games mercilessly.

not as a scapegoat…but for the sake of the team’s chemistry and ultimate confidence

50 bronxboy in Md November 30, 2007 at 10:16 pm

@ Peace…

Screens would be fine, but Jamal doesn’t really need em’….he’s so good off the dribble.

His ballhandling ability is gonna result in automatic switches.

That’s why Curry flourishes when Jamal has the rock.
