OPEN LETTER TO MR. MARBURY, part UNO

Happy Thanksgiving Mr. Marbury. I pray that on this day that you and your family are experiencing great joy and love together. I know that your day will be filled with thanks and praise of the great Creator and Facilitator of life. I add to my prayer that such love, praise and thanks overflow in your heart and mind pushing out all negativity and spiteful motivations.

I am writing this letter to you because I am a long time Knicks fan and you are a New York Knick; in fact, for better or worse, you remain the fulcrum of a team for which we had great hope and expectations in the 2007-2008 season. I am writing you in this time of discontent and disarray with my last hope that before Isiah Thomas is fired and this team is dismantled that you will be true to your insistence that you have a better understanding of yourself and your relationship to your God. It is only through you or trading you that the Knicks season can be salvaged. I am betting that the salvation can be done through you.

I do not know you personally, but I have watched you closely throughout your career. Like others I was intrigued by the Knicks acquisition of you and the notion that you could be the cornerstone of a winning franchise. I was even more intrigued that the decision was made by Mr. Isiah Thomas, a man with unquestionably high basketball IQ and known for a the toughness of a fortune five hundred CEO. I was intrigued because clearly among Mr. Thomas’ greatest combination of skills is the ability to identify young talent and to communicate to young men in a way that brings out the best in them. It is clear that he saw himself in you. He saw a beautiful raw talent where most others just saw a selfish, self-centered ghetto boy lucky to have grown up with a basketball for a rattle. Mr. Thomas believed that he could, by his own example, instill in you, the confidence that would turn that talent into the most powerful force on the court, a point guard with leadership skills able to control the tempo, pace and heartbeat of a game. He clearly believed that he could get in that head and repair what others saw and still see as short circuits in your self-concept and understanding about humanity.

Mr. Thomas believed that with tough love, friendship and prodding that he could turn you into him – not Isiah the personality, but Isiah the tough young man who saw difficulties as opportunities to succeed rather than times to wither, whine and withdraw into self-pity. He thought he could do that and he convinced James Dolan to invest a lot of money in that belief.

What Mr. Thomas and Mr. Dolan did not fully understand is how impossible it is to build on a foundation of selfishness and self-centeredness that always threatens to shift the ground and destroy anything put on top of it, including love. A foundation of me always moves alone leaving ruins behind. By your own admission you have been a selfish, self-centered person fighting these tendencies for a long time.

I am writing you because I do not want you to leave destruction behind. I am writing you because as a Knicks fan I am so so hopeful that there was a slight sliver of truth in your announcement that you have found that all is ruled by a higher power and that the world does not center around you. Despite the fact that your latest actions and comments to the press have demonstrated just the opposite, I am going to offer you the following advice and suggestions to how you can turn this entire fiasco around and salvage the remainder of your career so that you are remembered as the person and the winner that you believe you are; that many of us believe you are. We want to be right. We want you to do right.

Yes, it was terrible, but not as terrible as living forever with the thought that you quit on each other. The answer is in believing in one another.Don't make the mistake of thinking it's all someone else's fault and that you will eventually move on to better things. It's everyone's problem, here and now.You win as a team and lose as a team.

"The question is not whether we will die, but how we will live."

GSW not known as a great defensive team but look at these numbers:

steals: 17-3 GSW
blocks: 7-0 GSW

(turnovers: 27-11 NYK)

cannot afford to have huge imbalances like these (in multiple areas) and expect to win, not if we're only just treading water with the opponent in the other areas.

we need to trade off some of our inconsistent guys. this means N8, Q, packaged with either Lee or Balkman. this team needs a shakeup and not sure if zeke can wait another year. this team, as currently assembled ain't it.

anyone else get the feeling this team is still spending too much of practice time still trying to understand their offensive and defensive strategies and not enough time prepping for the next team it is to face?

Q. How do you lose a game by 16 points and it is not deemed a blowout?
A. By losing each quarter by 4 points.

The next five games are going to be pretty tough. If they come out 2-3, I'd take it and run. The key to bolstering confidence on the team (and throughout fandom) is to be competitive even in the losses. Don't lose composure, keep fighting through it, make the victors know they were lucky to escape with the win.

Curry does not have the head or the heart for that. We have to de-emphasize him in the offense if you ask me. Risky, but methinks we should ride our double-double hoss ZBo now. Ride the man to death. He can take it. Marbury plays better with a big chip on his shoulder. He has one now. Big as his head.

To parachute in some quality, we have to give up something quality. Give a little to get a little. Either Lee or Balkman have to be in the package.

Team is fragile right now. A players-only would be good. Who's going to lead it? N8? Crawford? I think it should be on Q. Just a rally meeting, no big airing of grievances.

Just keep it close fellas. Battle, battle, battle, no let up.

the knicks need somebody who plays above the rim. Zbo, despite his dominant numbers, does not play above the rim. he got his shot blocked 5 or 6 times against the nuggets. curry can jump, but not quickly enough. Lee has hops but is undersized. balkman is the most dynamic forward on the knicks in terms of being in three places at once, but he isn't an above the rim player either.

I didn't see the game but I can tell from your posts that it was a tough one to watch. I read howard beck's write-up, lots of boos through out the game and chanting.

I'm on the road stopped in Virginia traveling to family down south for thanksgiving. My girlfriend was sending me text updates with the game scores as I drove down the Jersey Turnpike--could not find the game on the radio unfortunately.

I'm not smart enough to know how to solve the knicks' problems, but I know that you guys are real knicks fans and I only wish this team improvement and more wins because we deserve it for our perseverance though this adversity.

Maybe it is time to let Chandler have some decent minutes or switch Q for Jeffries. Q is struggling this year. The problem with the rotation is there aren't enough guys that play two ways, which leads to bad combinations on the floor at the same time. Q is actually our best two-way player when he's feeling good, but this year he's regressed into the player that struggled during his first season in New York.

Chandler also blocks shots, something this needs pretty badly right about now.

I’m not smart enough to know how to solve the knicks’ problems, but I know that you guys are real knicks fans and I only wish this team improvement and more wins because we deserve it for our perseverance though this adversity.

Maybe it is time to let Chandler have some decent minutes or switch Q for Jeffries. Q is struggling this year. The problem with the rotation is there aren’t enough guys that play two ways, which leads to bad combinations on the floor at the same time. Q is actually our best two-way player when he’s feeling good, but this year he’s regressed into the player that struggled during his first season in New York.

Chandler also blocks shots, something this needs pretty badly right about now.

Can we really blame Larry Brown now?

I know hind sight is always 20/20 but if we could do that scenario over again...
I think I would choose to keep Larry and not Marbury.

Larry saw this coming and so should've Zeke.

Looks like Larry wasn't such a snake after all. Yeah, he spoke with reporters
when Dolan told him not to but that's who he is. He also had a proven record
of turning teams around from losers to winners.

We have gone backwards from last year.

I don't remember, did we start off this bad last year?
