Knicks come home tonight to face Warriors

by knicksdefense on November 20, 2007

The New York Knicks (2-7) should be well rested and ready to go when they taken on top-flight point guard Baron Davis and the Golden State Warriors (2-6) tonight at 7:30pm. The Knicks look to stop their current losing streak which is now at six games, but the Warriors won’t go without putting up a fight, having just defeated the Raptors in Toronto. Don’t let the Warriors’ record fool you into thinking this will be an easy win, they’re a western conference playoff team who just got Stephen Jackson back and have now won two in a row after starting the season 0-6. Ellis isn’t shooting as well thus far this season. The knicks need to make sure to box out Andris Biedrins who is a walking double-double not unlike D Lee, only taller.

The keys to victory for the Knicks will be the same throughout the season: good ball rotation (don’t over-dribble, don’t over-rely on freelance scoring) get the ball inside, reduce turnovers, make free-throws (assuming you’re getting to the line), guard the perimeter scorers. The knicks simply must do all of these things if they’re going to turn it around this season. Sink or swim.

NBA.com has an interesting preview article here.

I’ll be unable to watch this one as I will be away from the TV. Hold the fort down as always.

BUT THIS IS NEW YORK

correction noted

2 HarleminMD November 20, 2007 at 9:58 pm

It happens all the time in New York. It happened with the Mets. It happened with the Giants. New York is a tough place to play. Clyde is saying you have to just do your job, but he also said earlier that the players do hear the boos and it hurts.

Clyde got booed and he won 2 championships.

Just dumb.

BARF,

GS shocked Dallas because Dallas had no inside presence. GS turned them into a running jump shooting team and GS was much better at it. Avery was outcoached; he coached reactively to what Nelson was doing. Small ball has been successful in regular season for a long time, but small ball with no defense has never won a Championship.

GS may be your second favorite team but as their record indicates they are imminently beatable. Crazy.

What does DaVonn say terrible. Have you ever seen Zeke shake his knees like that while on the bench. DEAD MAN WALKING, because of the team he hasn’t lost. Unconscionable.

4 HarleminMD November 20, 2007 at 9:59 pm

Stephen Jackson killed us in the 3rd quarter.

5 Lives In New Jersey, Loves New York November 20, 2007 at 10:03 pm

Detroit is a less winnable game than this one. The Knicks can’t do a thing with Tashaun Prince. Rasheed Wallace negates whoever he guards, ZBO or Curry. They have chemistry. Chauncey to Rip off the curl is butter. Guards will trail him all night because they supposedly played (lies) the night before. Unconscionable.

Yeah Anti, with that type of performance the players need to give the TV viewers some money back too.

6 HarleminMD November 20, 2007 at 10:03 pm

Anti,

Even Ewing played tight because of the boos. He tried to man up, but the extra pressure just caused him to miss free throws late, have a finger roll rim off, etc.

That’s why all the opponents that come to MSG look like worldbeaters. The crowd jumps on the home team to quickly.

We have a young team that needs support man.

Stephon is the lifeless one out there. I’m sure Isiah wants to suit up. You can’t coach the killer instinct, the “f*ck y’all” attitude that the Knicks need out there.

7 Anti-NYSportsNews November 20, 2007 at 10:06 pm

Even Isiah Thomas didnt want to coach this team he created.

He’s a good GENERAL MANAGER—-and I have no QUALMS about that!!!!

I’m not being nice about this shit. Be men. Buckle down. Earn your money. Stop mopping like babies. Play some ball. Stop missing those freakin’ easy shots. Marbury came to play. Crawford and QRich show little value in this system. What happened to the mixture of penetration and posting. Are Steph and Nate the only one’s who can drive to the basket? Mardy, what the hell were you doing. Lazy ass passes. Not just one; multiple lazy passes and you’re supposed to be the best entry passer on the team. How dare you embarass yourself and Zeke like that.

9 Knicksome November 20, 2007 at 10:08 pm

exactly not hutsle, its like they dont come to play hard. Cant even make the easy shots…this team needs a change straight up!

10 bronxboy in Md November 20, 2007 at 10:09 pm

Harlem,

“Real fans would not boo their team coming off of a 5 game losing streak”.

You’re joking, right????

We they supposed to come home to a hero’s welcome?

I think not.

They should’ve expected the reaction they received from the fans.

Cause they deserved every boo they recieved.

As Anti so eloquently put it…they need to “man up”, dammit….

And if they don’t like the boos, play like it, and they’ll stop.

You gotta earn your keep in NYC.

11 HarleminMD November 20, 2007 at 10:09 pm

I remember Phoenix reporters asking Q how is NY and his response was “terrible.”

Players play for the love of the game. The money means a lot, but if you are being booed and ridiculed NATIONALLY, would you still love the game?

12 Knicksome November 20, 2007 at 10:11 pm

Cant wait to see what IT has to say about this game…let me guess the foul shots….them being tired or their just getting ready for the pistons game. WHAT A JOKE WE NEED A CHANGE….and I dont think bringing in ron ron would be enough.

13 Lives In New Jersey, Loves New York November 20, 2007 at 10:12 pm

HarleminMD, I believe that Zeke has done almost all he could for this bunch. They have let him down and embarassed him. But Dolan will not let them all go.

There was not a single good sign out there. I heard the fans cheer when the Knicks were playing well. The boos are not good and can affect a player, but that is the time to bring a team together and say fu*k ‘em. We’ll beat the home crowd and the opponent. We’ll win against one and win the other over by our effort.

Champions play through boos. 31 is not young in basketball years. They call that a veteran, with a veteran salary.

Unconscionable. Unconscionable.

14 Steady November 20, 2007 at 10:12 pm

I’m not 6’11″ and 285 lbs but to be given all that talent and support and come away with just TWO stinkin’ rebounds, I say gimme my neighbor’s chick on da side for a romp. I’ll deal with the crabs later.

15 Peaceman November 20, 2007 at 10:12 pm

I’ll be back In NY tommorrow,
just listening to Gus Johnson and Johnny Hoops call the
game, they sounded like they have given up on this team!
One of Two things will happen in the next two day!
1. A trade involving Marbury, Rose and LEE/Balkman plus a #1 draft pickfor…
2. Zeke will be fired and Marbury will be shown the door!
Doesn’t matter what happens in Detroit, the die is cast!

16 BARF November 20, 2007 at 10:13 pm

sure, i could say this is a team they “should have” beat, but it doesn’t make it true. And their record? They are undefeated ever since Stephen Jackson returned. If anything, I think Detroit is more winnable because they don’t play at the breakneck speeds of the GS, Phoenix and Denvers. I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s game.

in my break down earlier, i described ONE WAY they could win. They didn’t execute it well enough because they don’t have the manpower to execute the game plan. Plainly, they sucked at it.

trading lee and whoever else for Artest during the offseason would have made sense. Artest can play the PF in a game like tonight and combat Stephen Jackson. He can be the enforcer that will allow Curry to play his game.

Even when the Knicks were “in the game”, they were down by 4 or 5 points. They played with energy but GS has more energy.

I hate to say it but, GS is better than the Knicks. Their PG is a true leader. Their SF/PF, Stephen Jackson is an Oakley type enforcer, a leader and captain.

I’m sorry guys but this doesn’t surprise me. I thought the Knicks were doing well into the break at half but when they realized the game was slipping out of their hands, they got frustrated.

ZBo lost his composure. Curry sitting out the second half of the 1st quarter killed whatever momentum he had going.

When they lost the momentum of their big guys, the game was over. Completely predictable. Our wing players are not (a) better than GS wing players (b) as numerous as the ones on GS. They can sustain a much faster pace then the Knicks. Nelly goes 10 deep on his roster without batting an eye.

I’m out til tomorrow night. I promise I won’t shit on anyone til tomorrow. I won’t be reading newspapers tomorrow either. I’ve been reading them long enough to know that all they do is speculate. And speculate boringly too.

Harlem, I was telling my girl how much I hate that about this city and its citizens. They boo everyone. I’m hoping that someone other than Stephon responds to the boos.

I’m out to watch some primetime TV with my lady. Good night fellas.

Sorry we lost. Sorry we got shut down. But I’m sorry to say, I could see it coming.

17 HarleminMD November 20, 2007 at 10:15 pm

Bronx,

They are playing like shit right now. Everyone can see that. But does it help to remind them every time they play? they just lost 5 straight, including 2 blowouts. Who is going to feel confident after that?

Curry is as soft mentally as they come. He gets frustrated easily, hangs his head. Shouldn’t the fans try to encourage him?

NY tried to destroy Patrick every time his team failed against Chicago. (His team was usually inferior, but NY doesn’t care; it was Patrick’s fault).

Then look at the matchups. They were bad. The only advantages were the Center and PF. Q is too small to shoot of Jackson. Baron is stronger than Marbury (even though Marbury had a decent game). Craw could do nothing but shoot 3s.

18 BARF November 20, 2007 at 10:17 pm

I’ll say it one more time cuz my point was lost in the length of the message…
when they realized the game was slipping out of their hands, they got frustrated. and the game slipped early in the third.

ZBo lost his composure. Curry sitting out the second half of the 1st quarter killed whatever momentum he had going. they needed to have a playoff type atmosphere. and they didn’t. you can’t take breaks against a team you dont match up well.

isiah is falling on the sword in his post game comments. “It falls on my desk. Its not the player’s fault” he stands up and walks off.

night fellas.

19 BARF November 20, 2007 at 10:18 pm

Harlem, keep fighting the good fight. Good night

20 HarleminMD November 20, 2007 at 10:18 pm

Artest is not the answer either. He and Zach could not play together, IMHO.

21 DaVonn Jefferson November 20, 2007 at 10:19 pm

Jerry Colangelo..if we get him…

Kobe is next

Then Ron in the summer.

Then we can start talking again.

If I see Curry I’m going to say something to him.

I won’t say nothing to Nate cause even though I’m 6 foor 3..he’ll kick my ass LOL.

22 HarleminMD November 20, 2007 at 10:19 pm

Barf,

Just trying to keep spirits up and be a little realistic. Everyone wants blood and it is not productive.

23 HarleminMD November 20, 2007 at 10:20 pm

Let sleeping bears lie! Tread softly!

24 Lives In New Jersey, Loves New York November 20, 2007 at 10:20 pm

Who performs through Boos –

Reggie Miller did. Patrick Ewing did (yeah it hurt, but he wasn’t called Warrior for nothing). A-Rod (not a Champion yet, but a three time MVP) plays through Boos; Barkley played through Boos. Kobe played his ass off through boos. Artest plays through Boos. The Bad Boy Pistons played through Boos.

Boos hurt. At some point, if you love the game and you appreciate the blessing you have to play it, the boos should be secondary. Yes, boos can be unnerving and home boos can really be distracting and depressing, but what in the hell are teammates for if not to bond against adversity.

UNCONSCIONABLE. UNACCEPTABLE.

Even Zach has caught the bug. How many turnovers did he have? 7. Seven IIIIIII. VII. TOO MANY.

25 Steady November 20, 2007 at 10:22 pm

We’re FANS–let’s pick up our collective asses and spirits. They don’t represent me when they lose, they just sour my mood/taste, etc. Win or lose, we’ll be here tomorrow. And please fellas, I can find the MSM garbageness (nickel for Anti-) my damn self, please don’t bring in the dead rats from the gutter and post them on our living room walls. Oh well, I guess I can always skip pass. Ya’ll know what’s good. ;-) As in good night!!

26 bronxboy in Md November 20, 2007 at 10:22 pm

Harlem,

Encourage or coddle?

Shouldn’t “Easy E” possess enough “intestinal fortitude” to motivate himself?

One rebound at the half?

Zeke took cats the nobody else wanted, and tried to give em’ a shot, a new lease on their careers.

And this is how they repay him and his loyalty.

I have no sympathy for Curry and/or Marbury. They’re getting what they deserve.

Unfortunately, Zeke will be shown the door as a result.

Again, what came first….the uninspired play or the boos?

27 Lives In New Jersey, Loves New York November 20, 2007 at 10:23 pm

Crawford and Nate had four turnovers each. Come on, did they hear ghosts everytime they gave the ball back to thw Warriors. BOO. Where are the Ghostbusters. Bring that Eco-Plasm gun and shoot those fans.

28 HarleminMD November 20, 2007 at 10:24 pm

Lives,

I disagree. Reggie was the villain. Totally different.

Barkley had to leave Philly because of the boos.

A-Rod hasn’t won yet, hasn’t even had a good playoff yet.

Ewing tried like hell, but wasn’t productive enough because of it.

Ah shit.

Kobe is the only one on that list that can play through it.

29 HarleminMD November 20, 2007 at 10:25 pm

I don’t ever remember Chicago turning on their teams, even after Jordan left and they were bad for what, 7 years? They still don’t boo like NY.

30 bronxboy in Md November 20, 2007 at 10:25 pm

Harlem, I don’t want blood, bruh.

And I think most of us in here are being brutally realistic.

Speaking for myself, all I want is an honest effort. Some wins would be nice as well.

31 HarleminMD November 20, 2007 at 10:27 pm

Why would Kobe want to deal with this shit? He’s already rich and his model wife is a mother right now.

We will never acquire another major star via trade or free agency. Take that to the bank.

32 HarleminMD November 20, 2007 at 10:29 pm

Bronx,

I’m with you. I wanted Oak to suit up! It’s been painful for sure. But this pressure is OFF THE CHARTS on these boys. It is relentless and it is national.

33 Peaceman November 20, 2007 at 10:29 pm

What is the Answer? Everyone sees the problems!

34 bronxboy in Md November 20, 2007 at 10:33 pm

Peace,

Good question.

I don’t know, but something’s gotta change, for sure.

Looks like it’s gonna be the coach, with Steph not far behind.

35 HarleminMD November 20, 2007 at 10:35 pm

Well, I say start with a MAN like Zach. Nasty attitude, play hard every night, leave it out on the floor. He made mistakes, but that’s all we want is lunchpail dudes like Zach.

And our bigs need a consistent outside shooter.

36 STATESMAN November 20, 2007 at 10:35 pm

Fellas,

You can’t blame the crowd. This team looks for every excuse in the book. The bottom line is the players
are not mentally tough. Also, Zeke has put talent together, but not players who have experienced winning,
sans the Scholar. Jamal Crawford is not a starter on a winning team. At best he is a 3rd guard, too lax on
offense and zero defense. Q, spent 1-year w/ the Suns, before that w/ the Clippers who were bad, at the
time. There is noone in the rotation w/ the “Will” to win. I do not like the unit w/ N8 and
2 guards on the floor, N8 can’t guard anyone due to size. He also dribbles too much and runs time
off the shot-clock, and eventually the team has to put up a bad shot. This does not count as a turnover,
but it should. Team needs major changes, in the back-court. Steph is okay, but he needs a major
upgrade next to him.

Summary: The parts are greater then the sum.

Peace & Blessings

37 bronxboy in Md November 20, 2007 at 10:36 pm

Yeah Harlem,

I saw when dude was interviewing Oak.

He said the game has changed.

On second thought, maybe he needs to stay retired. He’d hurt Steph.

38 HarleminMD November 20, 2007 at 10:37 pm

LOL. True! There would have been a locker room fight for sure!

39 HarleminMD November 20, 2007 at 10:38 pm

Speaking of Oakley,

Lee’s helpside defense is TERRIBLE. If a guard or post needs help, he is always late.

40 Minnesota Knicks Fan November 20, 2007 at 10:39 pm

The good news is the Knicks are truly bottoming out now.

Drunks don’t get sober unless they really bottom out. This is when actual change can come. These Knicks are do for some serious change.

Welcome to the bottom.

It can only get better from here. (assuming they change)

41 bronxboy in Md November 20, 2007 at 10:40 pm

Minny Knicks Fan,

You hit that last post dead on.

42 HarleminMD November 20, 2007 at 10:43 pm

I still say Alan Houston can help this team.

We can’t guard anyway, so he is perfect on the defensive end.

43 bronxboy in Md November 20, 2007 at 10:46 pm

Lee does what he does well, but he does has limitations.

Foot speed is a major one.

It’s amazing, it seems like an eternity when we beat Boston in the preseason with them playing us like it was a regular season game……

We really thought we could beat ANYBODY.

Our confidence was soaring!!!

We had such high hopes for this team.

Where and when did the fuggin’ wheels fall off?

44 Minnesota Knicks Fan November 20, 2007 at 10:48 pm

I couldn’t see the game but here’s some brutal stats.
GS – 17 steals & 7 blocks.
NY – 25 turnovers.
Damn…that’s brutal.

45 HarleminMD November 20, 2007 at 10:49 pm

@Steady, #214,

Now you’re down with OPP? LOL.

46 bronxboy in Md November 20, 2007 at 10:50 pm

LOL Harlem…

Even on his worse days he played better defense than these current Knicks.

Speaking of Houston, I believe we should’ve gone after the shooter in the draft….Morris Almond.

We don’t have one pure shooter on this team to speak of.

47 HarleminMD November 20, 2007 at 10:50 pm

Yeah, and Boston now has confidence like the Chicago team that won 60+.

48 HarleminMD November 20, 2007 at 10:51 pm

Yeah, I could see Demetrius coming into a game like this where we’re down by 18, he shoots three 3s and we’re right back in it.

With our defense, we are going to need somebody like that.

49 Lives In New Jersey, Loves New York November 20, 2007 at 10:52 pm

Steady, this is the problem. When reality starts to meet MSM, that is a problem. It must change. I will not be nice. I will not be rosy. Fu*kin’ do better. I want them to succeed more than they collectively act like they do. I want to suit up — for free. I can’t play worth shit, but I bet you if I get fouled (if Stephen Jackson doesn’t steal the ball), I will hit 50% of my free throws. Boo me. I’ll play for free and I will hustle until my lungs give out 5 minutes into the game. To hell with the MSM. LINJ,LNY says they sucked tonight and I ain’t happy about it.

And check this; my spirit is high because I know they can do better. Others believe they can’t, but who being proven right now — me or the OTHERS.

No Kissy Kissy until they kick some assy, assy.

I’m done. I’m out.

50 HarleminMD November 20, 2007 at 10:53 pm

Speaking of old cats,

WTF did Phoenix feed Grant Hill? He looks great, even if he can’t elevate like he used to.

Don’t hate on the old guys!
