Kings get past Knicks in double overtime
The New York Knicks (2-6) had plenty of chances to come away with a road victory and break their losing streak last night at Arco Arena in Sacramento, but it was not meant to be as the Kings (3-6) out-lasted the Knicks 123-118.
Knicks.com describes the game as thrilling, and it was that at times, sure, but it was also frustrating to watch so many opportunities to win the game go out the window. The blown layup at the buzzer by Eddy Curry (27 points, 9 rebounds) who had an otherwise good game in Zach Randolph’s absence. Crawford also had his game-ending shots rim out as well. There were also the typical missed free throws down the stretch that led to the knicks demise–at least they kept the turnovers relatively low with 13 in a double-overtime game.
But as I watched the game last night I have to bring up the NBA referees and their failure to officiate a basketball game without bias. This is not even the second or third time during a game the thought has come across my mind that the refs have been instructed by the powers that be to give the Knicks a raw deal.
For the second straight game the refs called carrying against the knicks but did not make the same critical call on their opponent. This time it was Ron Artest who clearly carried the ball down the stretch, although there was simply no effort made by the refs to call it. One could argue that the home team gets the benefit of the doubt when it comes to officiating during the last two minutes of a basketball game, but considering the recent NBA referee betting scandal, I’m just not trusting these NBA refs these days, especially when the same injustice occurs in consecutive games against the same team. David Stern recently trashed the knicks publicly saying they’re managed poorly. Anytime the nauseatingly PC Stern comes out and says something like that, you can be sure that behind closed doors it is much worse than a simple disdain: Stern wants Isiah out as badly as the NY Sports Media, and I’m not putting it past him to use his power to do something about it.
David Lee had a strong outing with 24 points and 16 rebounds and many key offensive rebounds that absolutely kept the knicks alive. Nate Robinson also had a strong game with 17 points off the bench, and I’m still scratching my head as to why he didn’t take some of the overtime-ending shots instead of the very poor shooting Jamal Crawford–9 for 27 from the field is garbage, I’m sorry but almost anybody currently playing in the NBA can score 24 points if they shoot the ball 27 times. Marbury had a good game off the bench with 15 points and 4 assists. Newly anointed starting point guard Mardy Collins continued to struggle with 4 points and 2 assists in just 18 minutes on the floor, hopefully Collins can make adjustments soon to show fans some of the game he displayed at the end of last season. Quentin Richardson’s offensive game is MIA this season. Incidentally, there was another bad call by the refs made against Richardson, who drove to the basket late in the game and scored a layup, but the points were nullified by the refs on a shady offensive foul call that did not exist upon examination of the replay. David Stern and the refs should be ashamed of themselves modifying the outcome of these games in such a manner.
The Knicks finish their west coast road trip tonight as they face the high octane offense of the Denver Nuggets in the mile-high city. Randolph and Balkman may be added to the rotation in time for this game, but will the knicks have enough in the tank, having played and lost a double overtime game just 24 hours ago?

One thing about these Knicks is count them out, and you’ll get your ass
handed to you in Vegas! Tonight we have an oppertunity to make this road trip
positive …just by beating Denver …Again! We can do it! The fact that we already did,
plays heavy upon Denvers mind! LGK!
Good commentary by Knicksdefense. Unfortunately for Isiah redemption at this stage comes only by putting up ‘Ws” and the team is just not doing that. In boxing when you are in an opponents arena you can’t leave the decision to the judges, you have to plan to KO the opponent. The Knicks must now begin winning by any means necessary. Good teams do it with or without the officials.
It was good to see Curry get a technical, but they have to start hurtung the opponents the way Laimbeer & Mahorn & Oakley did. They will get respect from the refs when they play like they want respect. This is a reflection of management and coaching. Dolan is partly to blame because of stuff like this staged question and answer time. The team is in a culture where they can’t express themselves. How they gonna do it on the court when the employer say you can’t express yourself elswhere?
Isiah may not keep/want the job and at this point, who would want to with all the anti BS going on in the league office and in MSM. Couple that with a degree of poor choices from the player you mentor and you have a situation where maybe taking the money and chillin for a while may not be a bad option.
As Knick fans all we want is to get some ‘Ws” and some respectability around the league. Because of the power of the press (ESPN, BArkley on TNT, newspapers and radio) it’s we the fans that really are the victims if you think about it. Imagine being 5000 miles away and trying to have an intelligent discussion with folks uninformed because they only have the misinformation propogated in the MSM.
Rush, I appreciate your posts, however this is not a matter anymore about how good the team is or can be. This has to do with bigger issues emanating from leadership league and Knick.
That’s it from the EC today where it is rainy and gloomy; maybe as it should be for Knick fans after a loss
That’s some hilarious paranoia…David Stern doesn’t like Dolan or Isiah so he’s instructing refs to fix games against them.
LMAO.
Perhaps he’s also instructing Eddy Curry to miss layups as well?
Blah…blah…blah…It’s all the MSM’s fault the Knicks suck…yada…yada…yada.
Don’t you whiners ever get tired of that same old schtick?
The Knicks are a dysfunctional laughingstock…the MSM just reports the news.

Whaddup witht the baygone on the smirky and sacrcastic?
Just to further burry a troll.
You get my bounce pass on those we should skip pass or not even let on the court.
Man, that Kobe Bryant sure is good huh?
Anybody watch the game last night where he wasn’t scoring that much so he stepped up his defense and pretty much
shut down RIP in crunch time?
Man I wish we had a player like that.
St_George,
I’m supporting your boxing reference. The NYK must simply view this scenario playing out like an “us vs them” and go out to beat teams by 10 instead of by 2–leave no doubt. Looks like the team is starting to find “an” identity and the players are getting to know their (t)rolls (especially when they interact with the fans on blogs).
The fans must not lose sight of the long season that is ahead and not buy-in to what the media wants us to buy (their paper, the Lone Rogue Ref, etc.). Of course you can’t control folks, you can only hope they verify their sources and remain objective to alternate sources of news/information.
Thanks for all you do in this community St_George.
Blogzilla–this post is on point. It should blow the record and over 500 hits today including the game. Let’s how we do–roaches and all.
KFLL
St George, I know your pain.
Imagine living in NYC and having people shoot out San Antonio everytime you talk about the Knicks. And when you try to get a conversation out of them about the Spurs, you realize they don’t know jack about that team either.
They’re not real fans. They just wanna talk shhhhh
Ok Guys!
How did he get in here? Who left his cage open!
I suggest we do not converse with Plankton!
He’s alone in bad company!
Now you guys know why the big fuss about eating paint chips as Childern!
St. George
I don’t think the league has anything to do with us losing. Refereeing was rather normal last night with usual ticky tack fouls called on both sides. Kings had couple of their bigs foul out. I didn’t see anything outrageous. Even that carry by Artest was pretty quick and they let it slide. They only call half of those anyway. It was a decent game, had me pulling hair out of my ass from 4th on but I did enjoy it.
Was Artest such a great defensive stopper in this game? I don’t know about that. He made some plays, missed a bunch of freethrows. His outside shot is streaky just like everybody’s on our team. He is definitely an upgrade at the 3 for us but to give up two or more players for him would be questionable. Lee for Artest straight up? Don’t know about that. Lee is young and could get even better down the road Artest is on the way down and will give you a couple of years before going on tour to India or something.
What pisses me off is that the Knicks are always missing starters for one reason or another. Its either injury or somebody dies or some other shit goes down. This really wears on me. I’m tired of saying we would have won if we had Zach and Balkman healthy or some shit like that. Its a damn soap opera with this team.
Yo DVJ,
Though its early in the season, how’s your Fantasy League team doing? Looking like you’ll take the ship againg this year? You must keep us in the loop of your success/winnings. Last year, you were stealth (WAY BELOW THE RADAR) but you what, came in second or won the whole thing?
RE KB–maybe Stephon will view the Bryant clip and emulate.
I’m still waiting for JChuck to come off the bench for JCraw. Let the Chandler experiments begin. That will put some fire under somebody.
KFLL
DEE-FENDERS,
The Miami game and 1 of the last 2 (Clips or Sac.), should have been W, and the record
would be a respectable 4/4 at this point. I projected after 15 games we would be
8/7 plus or minus a game. The little things (lay-up at buzzard,foul-shots), are what seperates the good
teams from the bad. Also believe that games are won in off-season. If Curry was serious about taking
next step he would have come in better shape. Then he could get to some of the loose balls,
block shots, etc. TIME FOR BALLERS TO BALL, PERIOD. After double overtime and 2nd night of back to back,
legs may be tired. W/ Karl wanting to NAIL it to Zeke, don’t be surprise if they don’t attept
to run up the score. The next 4-games are crucial for Zeke & team.
In the NBA winning teams get the calls, and losing teams do not. This has been the case for the last
20 plus years, or since Stern decided basketball was ENTERTAINMENT and not a SPORT. To get our share of
the calls we need W.
Peace & Blessings
Peaceman…how do you manage to type, when you’ve got your hands wrapped around Ron Ron’s johnson?
BTW…I hear David Stern is claiming that Isiah gave him permission to have the ref fix these games.
LMAO!
Won’t be long now till Isiah is behind you on the welfare line…
Rush,
It’s nice to see a sane post amongst the conspiracy theorists.
I’m sure the Knicks would have won 50 games this year if it wasn’t for Stern.
I don’t know how to link storys to this blog, but the Denver Post has an article,
about Thomas “getting” to melo the first game, and blameing his poor 4th quarter on Thomas’s
Charm! The writer is trying to fire up the team. Hmmm, Guess that writer respects us so much he needs to “Fire up”
the Nuggets? LOL…We are a dangerous team = that writers article!
We are a dangerous team, to ourselves mostly.

Provking thoughts from da Boomann
1. Road trip almost done and the Knicks have yet to have any fun. The good news is Zach will soon be back and then we can have our most potent attack. Hey I’m a poet and didn’t even know it.
2. Renaldo is this year’s Jared Jeffries. He can’t stay healthy long enough to get his groove. Let’s pray to the injury gods that he finshes the year injury free from here on in.
3. Why play Malik Rose when Wilson Chandler is clearly the dominant player? All Malik is good at is pulling chairs from under people and he’s starting to suck at that too.
4. What happend to the Stephon Marbury fine? If they aren’t going to fine him they need to at least get the team together and give him the blanket treatment. For those that don’t know about the blanekt treatment it involves throwing a blanket over victims head while the group collectivly pound them to their hearts delight.
5. Did I mention Boston is like a Fredy Kruger movie right about now.
All BS aside but our SF position is fucked up. Qrich cant hit an ocean at this point and Jeffries only contribution is to stand in the paint with his arms up hoping someone runs into him for a charge. Balkman could be out for a long time with bone bruise and high sprain. I dont understand why IT doesnt put Chandler in there for some minutes. And why does Malik stand at the top of the arch chucking Js? We need Zach tonight in a big way.
Rush–agreed. I’d like to see what Chandler can do out there, I know he can shoot better than some of our options at the three.
Maybe Isiah doesn’t think he is ready yet for NBA action?
with key players out, and the starting five changed, the rotation is up way past 8 and will continue to increase when balkman and randolph come back to the knicks.
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/knicks/2007/11/17/2007-11-17_isiah_thomas_staying_upbeat-2.html
fred kerber of the post reports ewing never had a chance to join knicks as an assistant coach.
http://www.nypost.com/seven/11172007/sports/knicks/ewing_never_got_the_call_67738.htm
I don’t think Ewing would have helped. Aguire and Herb work with the bigs so there was no room for Ewing. I dont have a high opinion of Ewing he was alot like Marbury talented me first player who would always miss in clutch. Just another loser as far as I’m concerned.
LGM,
I make no apologies to you for what I write here. As a grown ass man, I call them like I see them; so you can exaggerate, sensationalize, marginalize, whatever. maybe you should start your own blog about what is written on this blog? Most of us here know what you’re about by now, as was illustrated when there was a nearly unanimous vote that you are in fact a troll of a blog cancer.
That said, there are enough intelligent basketball people here to counter any garbage you bring to the table. Other people have also disagreed with what I wrote, but they did it with taste and respect, good for them. This is still a free country, watch the game for yourself and come to your own conclusions just like I have for myself. Did you even watch the game? Your post is without any game related information is the reason I ask.
Considering there was a recent scandal exposed involving NBA refs coupled with a public anti-knicks remark by the commissioner, I have every right in the universe to question the integrity of refs because I pay money to follow this team and this league. By the way, I haven’t like the commissioner in years.
But back to the subject of you: any rational human being that does not enjoy the company and perspective offered by a group of people moves on to find more like-minded individuals, yet you continue to blog here some reason.
Blogzilla,
HURT’em good!
The community is behind you with placards and lighted torches. You know you’ve got the ultimate seismic eye ray to kill all the nonsense. Trolls beware.
Ex-starburyfan,
I’m not sure what a ‘grown ass man’ is, and I’m not asking for your apologies.
As far as ‘taste and respect’, there’s no need to pretend that it exists here. It doesn’t. You and your rabid cult of defenders have shown no respect to me, and you certainly show no respect for any writer of any greater metro NY newspaper…including Hahn. This blog is filled with the same boorish, derivative, insulting prattle, day after day…yet all of a sudden you’re searching for some hilarious moral high road because I’ve chuckled at your ignorant rationalizing of last night’s loss.
Your post that I’m commenting on here certainly doesn’t show any respect for David Stern or the referees. It’s just more of the same hilarious whining that there’s some giant secret conspiracy to see the Knicks and Isiah Thomas lose.
So please excuse me if I don’t get to concerned over what you think ‘rational human’ beings ought to do. I continue to blog here – occasionally – because it amuses me.
Do I need a better reason than that?
BTW…Please tell your cheerleader Steady, to put down the pom-poms and take off that hilarious pleated skirt…it’s hurting my eyes.
so you know alan hahn and you’ve never heard of mark?
BS
you just proved yourself son.
no further evidence is necessary.
the problem with LGM’s BS is that he assumes I’m out to defend Isiah Thomas when in fact I’ve been quite critical in the past week and even wrote win or be gone with regard to upcoming games this year and in the years preceding the inception of this blog. the tendency to lump people into large groups and paint with such broad brush strokes is often attributed to racism and bigotry and I’ll be damned if I have such a poor excuse for a human being post on my blog.
Blogzilla,
Does that mean you have exercised the seismic eye ray of death on the troll? Cool.
KFLL
LGM check this out.
The people have spoken LGM. You’re not wanted here, go troll someone else’s blog you cancer.
knicksdefense…thanks bud
I’ve grown quite tired of lgm/mark myself.
Knickdefense,
As Blogzilla, you don’t have to defend, explain or define for ANY one. I’ve got your back and it was noted by the troll. As you correctly said, you’re a “grown-ass-man”. You have the privilege here in that this is your living room and no corporation is paying you to do this or troll on the blogosphere. If the MSM in NYC Metro want respect then they should change their ways, repent, accept God and be constructive and not destructive or be venemously inciteful with their stories then I may change my tune about Isolated, Con, the Caveman, and Boils. I’m not their friends and they’re not mine so this is perfect for me to stay here and out of their company.
KFLL
[...] They WON that double OT Sacramento game. Worst officiating I’ve ever seen in favor of an individual player since that finals series between the Dallas Mavericks and Dwayne Wade’s 10-inch forcefield. Under 1 minute left and Ron Artest has BLATANT carry with under a minute left – No call and allowance of ensuing 3-point play. In OT, Artest had a BLATANT flop with Curry – Curry gets offensive foul. In double OT, Artest has BLATANT push-off of David Lee on critical rebound off of missed free throw. No call. I’m usually not a big complainer about refs but this was simply horrendous. You really have to see the Artest carry to believe it. Or just watch his post-game interview where he ADMITS to the Curry flop! And when considering how Jamal Crawford has been getting routinely called for much lesser carries than Allen Iverson does every-time down the court, it is getting hard to take. Considering some recent David Stern comments about the Knicks and the recent referee allegations, it’s not hard to understand why the annual NBA conspiracy speculation has already gotten started just 9 games into . (see Knicks Defense). [...]
Inasmuch as Knicks didn’t show up last night, they were reasonably rested for tonight’s game–the first win in a back to back game. ZBo played a strong game and JCraw came with his offense. Lee, who did show up last night(24 points, 16 rebounds), looked evidently tired and played only sparingly (12 minutes), but took down 5 rebounds. N8 did not play? Is he injured or in Isiah’s doghouse? M. Redd got 27 at small forward spot, showing once again that Knicks need true sf.
Balkman helped some as did F. Jones. Balkman’s own intense energy is his best and worst attribute. He gets the team going, but is prone to injury–a fact that may plague his entire career. I believe he needs to slow it down a bit and turn it on when he has clear or semi-clear path to the hoop. If Taz cannot play in next game, I also
want to see Chandler activated. Despite yesterday’s horror show, Knicks won 3 of last 4. Stay positive. We’re on a new winning streak.
Ignore LGM and he may go away. KFL
