this guy is taking a shot at isiah for benching marbury..

but when he is defending stephon, he does a terrible job at it. he says that the root of stephon’s problem is “understandable” but never bothers to explain it. so how easy is it to understand if you can’t explain it?

i think when he mention how consistently inconsistent stephon has been throughout his career, that it supposed to pass as a defense for stephon’s reaction.

the real point is, people want to blame isiah for even having stephon on this team. they’ll defend stephon just to further debase isiah. so transparent that i may work

stephon’s just another crab in the bucket with these reporters.

funny how he mentions mardy averaging 4.5 points for the season but failed to mention that mardy averaged close to a triple double for the last month of the season.

2 DNM November 14, 2007 at 1:21 pm

Even if Steph comes back to the team and the players and coaches welcome him back, he’ll never be accepted by the fans. Not by me anyway, don’t want to speak for the rest of you.

The Garden will let him hear it everytime he touches the ball (all the time since he’s PG). It’s in the best interest of everyone to cut all ties.

Stephon MEbury What a real professional. Azzhole that is.

I can’t take this crap. I don’t watch soap operas for a reason. What happened to NY bball ?

Someone needs to show him that “all will NOT be well” and suspend him indefinitely away from the club so he can be “all alone”

I read an article tday ( I forget where ) saying that if Marbury is welcomed back without penalty that IT’s credibility w/ his team will disappear. I’m inclined to agree.

I dunno if I can stomach tonights game. Thank god I was at a concert and didn’t have to watch last nights drubbing. If SM wants any sort of forgiveness, he should get his pouting azz on a plane and get out to LA.

4 Starburyfan November 14, 2007 at 1:29 pm

steph is wrong if he can’t accept not starting. you have to respect the coach if that is what he asked of steph.

HOWEVER

I want to go on record for saying that in terms of “leadership and defensive performance,” Jamal has been more disappointing for me to watch than stephon. why isn’t he being benched? He’s averaging 4 turnovers a game, and is very slow defensively. that’s just how I see it. Scapegoat city.

Mardyfan or Collinsfan is so not you! lol

But Riley rips the Heat for their play:

Yea, it didn’t make me feel much better about our situation, but at least we won’t be bottom feeders in the East.

7 Starburyfan November 14, 2007 at 1:41 pm

anti,
not soon no. but when i do change it it will not be to another current knick player because there is no knicks player that is going to stay a knick for as long as I intend to keep this knicks blog.

those who know me know that I’ve had this name prior to stephon’s fight with isiah, summer of youtube, ect. those who are just finding this blog now aren’t going to understand why I chose that name to begin with.

Defenders,
You may see this theory again.
In professional sports, considering the age of the players and the amount of years they spend to learn their “profession”, coaches and GM have very little control or ability to coerce their behavior. I submit that their control lies in the three Ps. P1=Pocket (through fines, penalties, suspensions, etc.); P2=Playing Time (all professional athletes want to play the game and practice to develop their trade); and P3 (though used sparingly and most coaches/GM do not agree)=Press–Players don’t want to be called out in the MSM or caused for the fans to see them in a negative light by the venemous comments/opinions that can be made in the press by a coach, fellow players or anyone for that matter.

Stephon,
You need to spin this. You’ve got the means, use it.

Steady as IT goes.

13 STATESMAN November 14, 2007 at 2:56 pm

AFRICAN,

I did not see the post about Baby Shaq(LOL). You took my JAB more seriously then it was intended, there was a reason why I included LOL.
Your old post hit the nail on the head, in some cases. I am excluding Calvin Murphy & Curry is Shaq. Your comments about Steph
fall in line w/ what I was saying about Steph this past summer. Steph is a 2 guard, and not a pt. guard at this stage of his career.
I was advocating starting Mardy at the point, (Cooley this was before you appeared), w/ Steph at the 2. I stated defensively,
Mardy could guard the the 2, and Steph the 1. AT NO TIME DID I SAY STEPH WAS THE POINT FOR THIS TEAM. Crawford is the guy that must sit.
Somehow his lazy-entry pass against the Heat, unforced turnovers(how many palming calls), and matador defense has been overlooked.
Maybe I am missing something, but then again, I still don’t see Malik as a LEADER.

BARF if I was to use your definition of a leader(talking to teammates and kids), then N8 would be considered a leader. Go ahead and
admit it, the MSM convinced you that Malik was a leader. Veteran leaders are guys like Horry, Stackhouse,PJ Brown, guys that
are not necesarily stars but make TANGIBLE & MEANINGFUL contributions. Malik’s shot is a KILLER!! When will the LEADER realize that
anything but a lay-up is out of his range? That’s LEADERSHIP, knowing your LIMITATIONS.

The reason that I want the leading scorer(leading shot attempts), to sit is because whenever there is an offensive flow going early in the game JChuck will take a CRAZY SHOT. Not only does the shot cost the Knicks at the offensive end, but because it is out of the flow, but it creates an
imbalance defensively also. A lot of times it appears the Knicks are not getting back on defense, but JChuck’s ill-advised shot put the team in
bad defensive position.

Finally, my position is that Zeke should have addressed this in training camp, and handled the demotion better. While the Celtics were making a statement in pre-season our guards had a horrible pre-season. I was taught you play the way you practice. Steph & Crawford have proven this to be a truism. This is a very Pivotal year and noone should have been allowed to float through camp. While the Celtic appear to be all business, The Knicks are dealing w/ some SOAP OPERA SH–.

Peace & Blessings

(Wow N8 a LEADER)!!!!

14 BARF November 14, 2007 at 3:20 pm

“Horry, Stackhouse,PJ Brown”

Those guys are contributors on veteran teams. Did you forget the young teams that gave up on them? Except for Horry, the other two went chasing after veteran teams for their rings. Malik falls in line with that group except that he is on a young and rebuilding team. Eddie Jones, Gary Payton, Derek Fisher…yes, all those.

And if they were on young and developing teams, they’d be doing things they shouldn’t be doing. I am not defending Malik’s offensive decisions, I am merely defending his qualities of leadership and veteranship. His shot sucks, his spot doesn’t.

You’re confusing the man with the job.

Whatever offensive flow this team has been on has been because of JCraw. If anything, the shot out of the flow you are describing is what I’ve accused Stephon of during games. If anyone is not paying attention to the gameplan, its Stephon. JCraw is the one forcing passes into the interior to a fault. Over passing to a fault. The Phoenix was the exception. JChuck has only surfaced since ZBo was out. Stephon’s been at it since the preseason.

I’m kind of glad Stephon did what he did, cuz now, its open season on the critique of his game.

as per Hahn’s blog:

* – Just an update on Renaldo Balkman: his status remains uncertain — team is calling it a “game-time decision” — for tonight’s game against the Clippers. They’re calling it a sprained ankle, but it is not related to the stress reaction injury that had him out for the entire preseason. X-rays were negative, but it would be a surprise to see him on the court tonight. He left U.S. Airways arena in Phoenix on crutches.

* – Mardy Collins (sprained foot) said he expects to play tonight. Q-Rich might have to play through the hyper-extended elbow injury, just so the Knicks have enough bodies. Q said on Tuesday that he wanted to play, he just couldn’t shoot.

It would be nice to see Mardy back out there. Balk too. QRich looked really hurt though. A hyper extended elbow of the shooting arm sounds like it’ll mess with his shot. Tough break.

We should see a healthy dose of Jeffries too. *sigh* It’ll be another long game without ZBo though.

“Sure Curry and Zach Randolph are still a low post threat but with passes coming from the likes of Robinson and Mardy Collins, who knows how effective they can be. The players Zeke has acquired just simply do not have the talent defensively to hang with NBA teams night in and night out.”

From the link in sbfan’s post

This is the perfect opportunity for Mardy Collins to make a name for himself. If opportunity ever knocked for anyone, its knocking now for Collins.

The only thing Collins cannot do that Stephon can is score. But on this team, it’s more important for the PG defend and lead than to score.

I still stand behind that Curry and Calvin comments.
Nate may be the most athletic small man in league history.
Get Mardy solid minutes and see how that turns out.
So you’d start Steph ahead of Q? No way. A backcourt of Mardy and Q would be ideal. Bring Steph off the bench.
I’d love to see Zeke give Marbury some DNPCD when he comes back.
That would show Steph who runs this shit.

I generally stick w/ facts & the truth. If half truths, misleading information and deception will help you prove your point, feel free to use them.

Stackhouse was traded to Dallas 4-years ago, before they were conference champions, and has assisted w/ their growth.
PJ Brown played w/ the Bulls last year a team w/ a starting 5, younger then the Knicks at 3 out of 5 positions. He started last year
or was first forward off the bench.
Horry had 2 Rings from Houston & 3 from the Lakers, before he joined the Spurs. I’m not sure what Rings he was chasing.

The Knicks starting 5.
Steph
JCrawford
Curry
Zach
Q,.
All have been in the league at least 6 years, do you call this a young team? Do you think any of these guys listen to Malik.

Barf, you get last word. This is as exciting as watching paint dry. Contrary to what you may think Air Rose is only taking up Cap & Roster
Space. He has zero influence on the Knicks success or failure this year.

Peace & Blessings

30 STATESMAN November 14, 2007 at 4:14 pm

Q, has zero lateral movement, he can’t play in the backcourt. Besides will he ever stay health? W/o a doubt Zeke runs this,
and if thre was a fight, there may be a reason why Steph went home. The Knicks & Zeke don’t need messages right now,
we need wins.

Nate is a poor man’s Earl Boykins, not really a point because he looks for his shot first, second and last.

“I generally stick w/ facts & the truth. If half truths, misleading information and deception will help you prove your point, feel free to use them.”

Last time I read that, Mak was behind the statement. Say it ain’t so. I don’t have time or the desire to explain every statement I think you might have a problem with. I type what comes to mind and hope you understand. Sorry if that offends your sensibilities.

But the Malik roster spot is not the problem. Nor is Jerome James’ roster spot. Demetris Nichols wouldn’t save the day now.

So although my blanket statement regarding your 3 player list didnt fit perfect in a nice little package, Malik still falls in the realm of the list, for me. Jerry Stackhouse hasn’t won anything. Horry third-wheeled for his rings (and I have nor problem with that) and PJ Brown was a vet big man on a Chicago squad last year.

I don’t know how you can dispute the “youthiness” on this team. There’s not many more youthier teams out there. I think that a player that has yet to hit his prime (around 27 or 28 through to 31 yrs of age, give or take) is still considered young. Maybe I’m wrong.

By that measure, the Knicks are young.

jcraw- 27
balk- 23
chandler- 21
collins-23
curry- 24
jeffries- 25
lee- 24
morris- 21
zach- 26
qrich- 27
nate- 23
jones 27

With the long vets on the team being:

jjames- 31
rose- 32
steph- 30

Unless we get better vets, why shit on the ones we have? Other than Stephon, our vets don’t have prominent roles.

That’s always been my point. While yours has always seemed to be heaping criticism on Malik for what? Taking ugly shots. No sh!t. That’s why he doesn’t average many minutes.

Until there’s a better offer, we’re stuck with him. I never said he was untradeable. But there are a ton more problems beside his obsession with taking shots.

“In the end, this Marbury mess is not so much about Marbury as it is about Thomas. The guy is desperate. You don’t just trash your starting lineup after five games. But Thomas’ job is very much in peril, and it’s looking more and more like the Knicks will be a 35-win team no matter how Thomas juggles the pieces.”

Does N8 Feed the Post?

Does N8 play at this team’s tempo?

Marbury Rejoins Team, Zach Back, Too
Just got official word that Stephon Marbury has, indeed, met the team here in Los Angeles. There was no indication that he would or would not dress or play in tonight’s game against the Clippers, but considering the injuries, he might have to.

I’ll be headed to Staples Center in about two hours to meet the team there for pregame. There will be more, for sure, later.

Mardy Collins (sprained right foot) is questionable for the game. Renaldo Balkman (sprained right ankle) is considered doubtful.

Quentin Richardson is probable for tonight and Zach Randolph came out to play tonight but he’ll head right back to Indiana for his grandmother’s funeral on Friday.

All hands on deck.

Nate already done did that.

i’m not comparing you to mak, i’m just saying that’s the last time i read that line. its easy to call people out for half truths. if i did that, this blog would be riddled with the statement. i type, and i hope i make enough sense or inject enough fact to make the point. if not, i look forward to filling in the blanks when they are presented to me.

Tru dat Knicksome,

I was never a big Marbury fan. In one of my earlier post(knicks fix)I said that I thought Marbury is not a good leader.Nor as a player or a person. He has talent, but he doesn’t help make the TEAM better (Nash,Magic, etc.). I’m not saying he is in their league, but he has the talent to do so much more. He should have more pride in his game and try to prove them all wrong……At least that’s how I feel

47 Starburyfan November 14, 2007 at 6:10 pm

If everything is marbury’s fault–as Isiah would have you believe–they why didn’t we win last night? basketball is a team game, it takes a group effort to win. if isiah suspects stephon is the reason, then he better win without stephon, he better win with nate and mardy and journyman fred jones, because if he don’t it’s his ass. i saw the same deficiencies in the phoenix game without marbury.

don’t believe the hype.

marbury probably isn’t going to play tonight. I want the knicks to win no matter who is playing. show me a winning lineup, or zeke gets shown the door. there are only so many ways to deflect blame onto others. frankly, this has been going on for years upon years. stephon is the newly appointed skapegoat, and previous scapegoats include

Scott Layden
Scott Ladyen players: Shandon Anderson, Othella Harrington, Mike Sweetney, Keith Van Horn, ect…
Lenny Wilkins
LARRY BROWN
last year’s scapegoat was the injuries down the stretch.
this year’s scapegoat is Stephon Marbury after 5 games.

I’m sorry, win or be gone. no more time to asses blame, you built this team single handedly.
This is NYC. we deserve a winning team. you can’t charge $3k for one seat to one game if the team is only going to win 23-33 wins out of 82. people will go to the jersey games instead. people will become bandwagon jumpers for the phoenix suns or the boston celtics. of course real knicks fans will never do such a thing, but the common nyc cat isn’t going to stomach so much losing and chaos, they’ll just come back once the smoke has cleared and reapply for their knick fan membership card.
