Who’s next for the Knicks?

by knicksdefense on November 7, 2007

dwight_howard.jpg

This man is, that’s all. Dwight Howard. If anyone in the NBA could lay a quarter on the top of the backboard, my money would be on Dwight.

My brother Dollar Bilz is a bigtime Magic fan (and he roots for the Knicks as his second favorite team) and he’s given me the scouting report on how Rashard Lewis is doing down in O-town with Mr. Howard. Apparently Lewis has been raining three’s (7-9 against Minnesota) with defenders draped over him, so you know it is going to be interesting to watch a Knicks team that doesn’t like to guard the three point line over the years. Should be another great game, I’m looking forward to seeing more from this souped up knicks team. Rashard is another one of those guys like Zach, hanging out in the relatively small media markets of the northwest, they’re not on everybody’s radar, despite very impressive skills.

Noah’s a neat kid. You know, like proper. Dignified, world traveled. Its not like he’s a gangsta rapper, poppin bottles and doing lines off strippers. I dont know for sure, he may dabble in sultry night life, but the kid’s image doesn’t reflect a thuggish, pretentious person. He’s well spoken, respectful. You know, like a model citizen.

“You need your players to have your back. Attitudes like this does not help.”

That’s my point. I couldn’t put my finger on it but there it is.

Which brings me to the next point…who’s more valuable to the Bulls?

Noah? or Skiles?

Look at what happened in Houston. JVG instilled a hard working, defensive mindset for years and just when they are on the cusp of a championship, they fire him and hire a coach that’s completely opposite. A player’s coach. Someone who’s actually going to take them to the next level, supposedly. Get the most out of his players.

Skiles is setting himself up. I just hope he knows this.

2 Charles Follymacher November 8, 2007 at 3:55 pm

i remember skiles as a pretty gritty, solid point, but dag, looking at those numbers now, he was actually a lot better than i remembered…if all noah said was, “we’re out of synch,” good lord stfu coach, you’re a little too wound up imho…one big reason dnice (here we go again ;-) ) is on the bench in cleveland is cuz he’s only been there a bloody week. he’ll get his shot(s). does anyone know what he’s getting paid now as an end-of-bench signee and what that compares to what he would have likely earned playin in stashed-away-where-two-scouts-can-see-you europe?…MODI has detailed all of Zeke’s moves and LB is really his only critical mistake — but who on god’s green earth knew it at the time?

uhh, did you see this kid after they won the last championship? in the post-game my boy was goin on in a wanksta stylee.

“My point was less about LB calling (thinking that) Ariza delusional, and more about calling him delusional to the papers.”

Comeon, didn’t you laugh when he said that? I thought that was funny. Ariza started it by demanding PT. LB was deflating his ego. Some of these guys need that.

Oh yeah, AF, Noah is a complimentary player at best. Who cares about his personality? I can give a rats’ ass about an athlete’s eloquence. Can u stick the j? Can you clean the glass? Can u make the block?

If you think he is a great politician, ok. Then he should be an intern for a Senator here in DC, not playing bball in Chi-town.

5 African November 8, 2007 at 4:09 pm

Harlem:
Slow down. on’t sleep on Noah. he’s a winner. Noah could be a special player. He’s a very smart player and works his butt off.
That’s the kind of player that brings a team together. He’s the ultimate team player.
I said I think he could be a politician with his personality.
Many players run for office after their playing days. Name recogntion.

6 BARF November 8, 2007 at 4:17 pm

Harlem, of course I laughed. But then again, I’m not Trevor Ariza. I don’t have to go home and explain to my moms why my boss called me delusional. You don’t embarrass a youngster like that. By then, he was in his second year I believe (correct me if I’m wrong). He questioned his own playing time to the MSM. Yes, the Bermans and Isolas. So you know he was baited. Was it the truth? Sure. Was Ariza immature for saying that? Sure.

But c’mon now. How long has LB been a coach? That’s right, longer than Ariza’s been alive. So you can’t pull the young man off to the side and treat him like a man? Teach him in life too, not just basketball. Its just a job to him man. That’s the difference. When I leave my JOB, I’m not thinking about this place til tomorrow.

How come LB treated his dream job like that? Publicly embarrassing the kids you’re supposed to be developing.

That may sound sensitive but whatever man. These are senstive times.

Chuck, I saw you’re DNich reference and let out a big sigh…its like a knee jerk reaction at this point. You know what I think about when I say neat…the draft with his stupid looking bow tie, his fro and them bright colors.

He looked like a wanksta? a herb? when? Blame it hip hop. He’s mother’s a famous artist. He’s an eccentric.

Yo, but I like that. He’s got balls. Bull balls. And by the look at that draft pick, he obviously doesn’t take himself too seriously. Which I think is cool for a kid his age.

Now, assuming you agree with that assertion, and you were the coach, why would you make an example out of THAT kid ?

If you’re old and can’t get down with the youngsters of today, then maybe you need to step to the side and let someone who WANTS to work with them have a crack at it. I get the old-fashioned values spiel and stuff but ultimately, this is a game. Yes, they get paid unreasonable amounts of money but there’s a demand for the talent they supply. Without demand, there’s no big paychecks. Without the paychecks, there’s less pretentiousness. The egos aren’t the problem, there’s egos in the hood. The problem is the entitlement the young rich dudes get contanimated with.

7 BARF November 8, 2007 at 4:19 pm

“I can give a rats’ ass about an athlete’s eloquence. Can u stick the j? Can you clean the glass? Can u make the block?”

He can do all that too.

But Uncle Buck Skiles won’t ever get that out of him. Noah’s a player. Not a dumbjock.

I realize a big win like the Knicks came up with the other night against Denver has a way of making reasonable people rather greedy. The level of expectation immediately rises. And future losses against pedestrian opponents usually seem more damaging.

There’s no reason to launch into crisis mode if they only pick up one more win on this homestand, and begin a four-game Western trip with a 3-2 record.

While the Knicks showed plenty of promise on Tuesday, I still don’t believe the breakthrough is going to come until the second half. Wait until January. The goal for now is to hang around the .500 mark. When the Knicks finally got their act together last season, it was too late.

They wasted November and December, and were 13-20 on when the New Year began.

It sounds like Isiah Thomas settled everybody in the locker room down after the Nuggets win, noting that good teams are supposed to win at home even if the opponent happens to be a playoff contender from the stronger conference.

“He just said they’re a good team, but these are games you have to have,” Jamal Crawford said. “You respect your opponent, but don’t bow down to anybody.”

• I’m off today, picking up leaves before the snow flies, but it sounds like Jared Jeffries is running around. He’s not far away. It will be interesting to see where he fits in. Jeffries had a good training camp, and he is a capable defender, but the rotation hasn’t crept beyond eight so far.

I’m not impressed with Noah. I was glad Chicago picked him with our pick; it made that lottery designation a lot easier to digest. He was good for college, but he’s going to have to step it up if he’s going to make an impact in the NBA.

Corey Brewer, Taurean Green, were the NBA ready players in Florida. Noah is JJames with a better motor.

HarlemMD,
You are not alone. I am here with you. JJames plays a critical role on this team whether we see it or not. And when he ceases to play that critical role, TRUST that IT will move him. Case in point–Stevie Franchise. Word is he can’t break into the Rockets rotation–sort of like “Love on the rocks”.

Let’s go Bullets!

18 LGM November 8, 2007 at 6:29 pm

heehee…

I see African, Anti-intellectual, and Peaceman drooling on themselves again.

Here’s a writing assignment boyz…put down your ‘glock’ and pick up your pen and compare and contrast Boston’s win over Denver last night, with our own.

Make no mistake, I was very impressed with that 4th quarter we had against them. It was a great confidence building win, and the first time I can EVER remember Eddy Curry having any impact on the defensive end to close out a close game.

But honest Knick fans know we’ve seen the fall behind by 10 or 20 early in the game “strategy” countless times last year…come up SHORT.

The starters come out flat, on their home court, turn the ball over, don’t play tough D, get down by double digits, then we make a furious comeback, typically with the second unit on the floor…And more often then not, that strat made us LOSERS last year.

Turning the ball over 8 times in the first quarter ain’t cuttin’ in. Letting folks like Gibson or Iverson shoot wide open shots at will…ain’t gonna get you to the playoffs, no matter how many nights we get 20 from Zach or Eddy.

You leave Lewis or Turkalu wide open tomorrow, and they are gonna rain threes down on us.

Now I apologize for getting some of you ladies all lathered up…but there’s a difference between being a Knick fan and a Knick sycophant.

Do you know what that word means Anti?

Look it up!

LMAO

19 HarleminMD November 8, 2007 at 6:39 pm

LGM,

You’re writing assignment should be to give a full report on tomorrow’s game. You know, when the Knicks beat the Magic. How will you spin that?

Stats are for losers. Focus on 2-1. LeBron got Jordan treatment.

Boston up by 40 before halftime = 1 win.

Now Turkoglu is a big threat? When did he become an all-star?

20 Steady November 8, 2007 at 6:40 pm

That was clever “skip pass” as opposed to bounce pass. Just used it.

Dr. Harlem,
Looks like 777 7th @ 7 will be the spot. From the looks of things, Cooleyhigh will know what’s good to the box (libation and grub in tow). MODI, Bronx (so far) will be da company. Let’s keep warming it up. And yes, will be lookin’ out for the Balkman jersey as agreed. As for me, was never the jersey type. I used to rock the “skippies” growing up so I never got into the Swoosh, Stripes, or Cat. Guess it just stayed with me afterr all these years.

LGM,

I have been able to avoid your poor analysis of my fellow Defenders by checking the name of the blogger before I read the message. I had no idea who you were or what you represented until just now when you called my fellow Defenders and me some ladies. Let me ask you a question you transvestie disguised as a Knick fan. Have you ever tried to open a jar that just would not open no matter how many times you struggled to get it open? And after a while you give up and ask anyone close to you if they could try opening the jar you were having so many problems with. Well this person is just able to turn the top of the jar with out any physical angst and you know you are stronger then the person who just did you a good deed. In your head you would have to say well I loosend the top that’s the only reason they could do it so easily. That’s what the Knicks did to the Nuggets. To every sports channel and area newspaper the Knicks game against the Nuggets was a big game because of the fight implications from a year prior. It was being hyped two days prior and I’m sure most of the players were aware of the situation. So after losing to a team that they were saying they loved to beat at home and who they stated as having bigger problems then the Nuggets which were really below the belt shots at the team. I would have to say their confidence and energy was completly drained when it came to playing the Celtics. Not to take anything away from the Celtics but we had loosened the jar up so the celtics could take it off. Now I would be pleased if you refrained from talking to my other Defenders as memebers of another gender or I’ll be forced to verbally abuse you in every encounter that we have from here on in. Show some respect or prepare to get chin checked.

Gentle Folks,

I hope you are enjoying the evening. I see the discussion today was much more pleasant and actually informative. Most of you know “I don’t give a rat’s ass” about pleasant conversation, but respectful and informative is usually good and minus the hyperbole. But then again we all know how not to read a post, now don’t we.

Check it out, I just bought a new book which I had been reading in the bookstore entitled Everything You Wanted To Know About The New York Knicks: A Who’s Who of Everyone Who Ever Played On or Coached The NBA’s Most Celebrated Team” by Michael Benson, (Taylor Trade:2007) 311pps.

I am really enjoying it and I can now pretend to be as knowledgeable about Knick ball as General Harewood. Dean “The Dream” Miminger’s son is a reporter in NYC for NY1. In 2006, Channing Frye beat Earl the Pearl in na investment contest with an average return of 7.4% on his investments versus Earl’s 2.6. And Darrell Walker is an assistance coach with the Hornets. Good stuff. Highly recommended.

Congratulations Cooleyhigh. Safe travels my friend.

LGM,

You’re writing assignment should be to give a full report on tomorrow’s game. You know, when the Knicks beat the Magic. How will you spin that?

HarlemDoc,

When the Knicks win tomorrow, I’ll be dancin’ a jig. I was a young man the last time they were 2 games over .500. I think the trade center was still standing…

But you can bet they ain’t gonna win the defensive effort and turnovers we had vs Denver. We were lucky.

Turkoglu’s not an all star, but neither is Gibson or Gomes. Anyone left wide open at the 3 point line seems to come up big against the Knicks. Turk’s got a lot more game then Q so far this year.

Time for the first unit to play some D. Time for Eddy to jump for rebounds and blocks in the 1st qtr. Time for my man Marbs to play D like he was in second half last season.

Anybody look up sychophant yet?

I see a few of you defended JJames earlier. I understand he’s insurance if healthy. I agree having a spare 7 footer is valuable. But he doesnt play because he’s always hurt. What kind of insurance policy is that ? You need to call him Allstate because thats who will pay his contract when we force him to medical retirement. I’d rather have Cato or even Butler back instead of James. At least they could actually help because they’d be available.

More MSM hijinx. Check out this bit entitled, Only winning will save Thomas’ job

“These days, Thomas doesn’t dare indulge himself in such moments of hubris. He is muted, humbled and downright lucky to still have this job. Deep down, Thomas is dying for a chance to be his old, cocksure self, but that’ll take time and it’ll take these Knicks turning into his professional salvation.”

I’m beginning to think a lot of sportswriters are being purposefully trollic TO GET THEIR READERSHIP UP. It’s worked really well in the tech journalism world (oh man, write an article bashing Apple and sit back and watch your clicks fly) and I don’t see why it won’t work in sports. Bash a popular-among-Blacks sports figure and watch the hubbub ensue. Hubbub = ratings = MO’ MONEY MO MONEY MO’ MONEY! and that’s what this whole game be about innit?

I wonder if we can be savvy enough to skip pass on them MSM traps, too? so hard to lay off…

I’m also gratified by the love being shown to Taz because I blogged here that he was our poor man’s Artest. Why give him up for a player who is known to want to come back home where the water/love runs deep? Now some folks would have him start!! Great! Maybe! Steady as IT goes–he knows what’s good.

JohnQ,
I’ve associated the two words to JJames’ name also while just bloggin’. The 7ft reason why he’s a better option than KCato or JackieB on the bench is because IT, who is currently the GM with the best eye for talent (whether it is him alone or through a combination of his scouts), says that he is better. Moreover, those other two big fellas could not latch on to no other team. Butler got Buster-Douglasitis after Pops gave him that “spite IT” contract. Hopefully Cato invested his coins wisely else he may be refinancing mortgages somewhere.

Stephon,
Keep doing what you’re doing. Just keep the faith and lead; no need to look back. Lead. Tell the fellas to peep in here from time to get the love ya’ll need to go on that long journey to the “shiny stuff”.

Steady,

You can’t be serious spouting that crap James is better cuz IT says so. What is he EF Hutton now ? I don’t blame IT for the JJ signing. At the time it made real sense. Our entire team was way far short of 7′ ! This is why I don’t agree people say it was Zekes mistake. James took him for a ride because NY was desperate for a center. Necessity move not great pick up get it straight.

I like how you tore up my 2 candidates for replacement of the Hindenberg (I thank Hollinger for that one). ANY AVAILABLE 7 FOOTER WOULD DO ! ONE THAT IS RELIABLE, IN SHAPE AND AT LEAST GIVES A SHIT !!!! JJames IS WORTHLESS.

49 Charles Follymacher November 8, 2007 at 10:47 pm

I know some of you guys still go to Hahn’s site to lurk so I’m getting ahead of the game here. I just saw this bit from my feedreader (I’m practicing what I preach, I read his stuff from the reader and i’ve only been to his site tops a handful of times since the boycott began. which reminds me, SBFan I’m asking again man if you could please check into your rss feed? it’s still not working for me).

“Had to share these photos, sent to me by Charles, who is a Fixer lurker. These were taken in a stairwell at MSG recently. Clearly Demetris Nichols wanted everyone to remember his time with the Knicks.”

It’s a pic of “Demetris was here” scribbled on a wall somewhere on Knick property I think.

So. I’m kinda thinkin somebody’s being cute over at KF. It does a number of things. At the least it might suggest that I’m visiting the site (esp as I am a known DNice booster, or was anyway). And that suggestion might help snag more of you guys to go see the dealio.

You decide what you want to do. Somebody asked me the other day why I use my whole entire (fake) name as my signiature, well, now you know.

50 Steady November 8, 2007 at 11:45 pm

JohnQ,
What do YOU mean by BETTER? IT decides who is a better fit for the NYK last I checked. Do you want me to accept your proposal that Butler and Cato are better because YOU proposed them? You must be just bloggin’? I might have mistaken you as serious until you I read BSPN’s asspert Hollinger as your reference.

To answer your question–for the NYK, IT IS EF Hutton, when he talks, all the NYK players and staff listen. JJames did not fool anyone–maybe you were fooled. Many sensible people following basketball knew that James is a “contract-year-player”–he rises to the competition when there’s a contract on the line. Seattle tried hard to keep him that summer after a monster play-off series. He’s an East coast player and wanted to come back East to be “The Starting Center for the NYK” following after the Big Fella. Were you following b-ball at the time? You must be joking? Tell me this is a big joke, JohnQ! You’re going to 2nd guess IT’s judgement about James over Butler or Cato? How many practices have you watched? Which of your two paper studs were reported as a better challenge to Curry in practice?

Let me suppose that you consider James “WORTHLESS” as a basketball player. That is FALSE. To shut you up, James only needs to be worth more than YOU JohnQ. Since he made the cut and YOU didn’t then I think you and those two other “has-beens” are WORTHLESS. Use that veil of hypocrates to wipe that smug smirk JohnQ. Undo the knot on your head as it’s hindering sight and thought. On the financial level, James is not “worthless” either. The NYK or his insurance agents have got him covered for the millions indicated in his contract–play or no play. And as already indicated previously here and at Modi’s, that money is sunk cost. James may not be filling up your fantasy league designs or living up to your wretched standards about team value. I’m rather shocked that you could be so obtuse on James while aplomb on Balkman vs. Q-Rich. Live and learn JohnQ–sans veil.

I’m steady bloggin’
