Knicks Visit Cavs in Season Opener

by knicksdefense on November 2, 2007

The wait is almost over. The NBA season started on Tuesday, and this has been a long week, checking out the other teams while waiting to see the Knicks finally play. Tonight they open up the season, test the waters and stretch their legs. There were glimpses in the preseason of good things to come, and there were some glitches that obviously need to be improved upon now that the games count on the record book. Will the defense be improved? Are the Knicks close to healthy again after last season’s major injury setbacks? Can ZBO and Curry flourish on the floor simultaneously?

What better way to start the season and try to figure these things out than with last season’s Eastern Conference Champions, the Cleveland Cavaliers.  The journey back to the playoffs begins tonight.

Why did Q give Lebron the baseline that time?

If we had Artest…..it would be a lot more difficult for Lebron to do all this shit.

2 DNM November 2, 2007 at 9:46 pm

We’re done for tonight

3 DNM November 2, 2007 at 9:47 pm

Too bad, we actually played a pretty good game. We didn’t fall behind big, we were in through out, but LBJ went to the line 18 times…

4 Peaceman November 2, 2007 at 9:48 pm

DNM
Believe!

5 DNM November 2, 2007 at 9:49 pm

I’m trying to believe…I’ve been believing for years now…it’s catching up to me lol.

6 DaVonn J November 2, 2007 at 9:53 pm

Terrible…just terrible.

7 DaVonn J November 2, 2007 at 9:54 pm

I’m with you DNM

It’s hard to be positive and I won’t be so positive this year.

Our play has to do the talking.

We have to win.

8 DNM November 2, 2007 at 9:56 pm

Gibson’s threes killed us tonight…what the hell was JC doing? The only positive is that it was close…but still…I’m sick to death of “being close”…I want to freaking win!!

9 DNM November 2, 2007 at 9:59 pm

Same old story…too many second chance shots, horrible perimeter D, and our free throw shooting still sucks.

10 HarleminMD November 2, 2007 at 10:03 pm

DNM,

Can you be a little more positive? Didn’t they play a good game? Isn’t it game 1?

11 DaVonn J November 2, 2007 at 10:03 pm

Terrible

12 DNM November 2, 2007 at 10:04 pm

I admitted they played a good game…but we still lost.
No more moral victories for me this year.
We must win. That’s it.

13 DaVonn J November 2, 2007 at 10:05 pm

I don’t care if it was game 1 or game 81.

People always make excuses.

There is no excuse why Crawford was leaving Gibson open like that.

Some say it was because we was in a zone…

If that’s the case…there is no reason why we should have been in a zone after Gibson got hot.

Even Gus said it…

Gibson will shoot you out of that zone.

Terrible loss tonight.

No we didn’t look good.

We lost.

14 DNM November 2, 2007 at 10:05 pm

Sadly, I think this is the best we can imagine to play. And if it’s the same result, it’s going to be a looong season.

15 Peaceman November 2, 2007 at 10:06 pm

Free throws! Free throws! Free throws!

16 KNICKSOME November 2, 2007 at 10:07 pm

One game guys this woke them uP…AND THE PAPERS WIL WAKE THEM UP!
we will over come this and it will only make us better.

Have faith guys dont be fast to fold.

17 DaVonn J November 2, 2007 at 10:08 pm

Ron Artest is the answer.

Does anybody care to disagree with me?

Everybody at the game, watching the game or listening to the game knew in the fourth Lebron was going to be more aggresive.

What does Isiah do? He puts Fred Jones…a 6 foot 2 player on the 2nd best player in the league who just so happens to be 6 foot 9.

LOL

I can’t wait to hear the excuses for this loss.

Looks like I’ll be up debating with some of you guys tonight.

I said it before and I’ll say it again…

Terrible….just a terrible loss.

18 KNICKSOME November 2, 2007 at 10:09 pm

Look they said the nets healthy were going to do damage and what? they lost by a blow out!

chill ! we will get it done

19 DNM November 2, 2007 at 10:09 pm

When will the excuses stop though?
At some point we have to freaking win games.
One game it will be bad defense.
Next it will be free throws.
After that it will be “Player X was in a zone, we couldn’t stop him”
Enough. I want wins. I want playoffs.

20 Peaceman November 2, 2007 at 10:10 pm

The knicks brought effort! No 20 point come back!
I’m not throwing in the towel, this team will gel!

21 DaVonn J November 2, 2007 at 10:12 pm

If we continue this type of play…Isiah will be gone by Christmas.

Peaceman..your right about the free throws but Cleveland also sucked at their free throws tonight.

How many offensive rebounds did Cle get in the 4th?

Terrible….just a terrible loss.

22 DNM November 2, 2007 at 10:12 pm

Why did Balkman play like 2 minutes? I know he was in foul trouble in the first half, but damn, at least put him in the fourth.
LBJ is good, but 45 points?! Why is that the players have season highs against us all the time.
Sorry, I’m venting…

23 DNM November 2, 2007 at 10:13 pm

Looks like the robbers stole Curry’s free throwing along with his valuables.

Okay, maybe that was below the belt.

24 KNICKSOME November 2, 2007 at 10:13 pm

Before it was talk of Zbo and curry not messshing, we accomplished that not we have to work on or free throw and the forever defence

25 DNM November 2, 2007 at 10:13 pm

*free throw shooting…man the typos tonight…

26 DNM November 2, 2007 at 10:15 pm

ZBo was jacking up way too many shots though…he doesn’t seem to like to pass. I like that he’s aggressive, but he needs to look to pass some more.
And the defense is un-fixable at this point. 35 points in the fourth quarter. Wow.

27 DaVonn J November 2, 2007 at 10:17 pm

KNICKSOME…come on bro

You can’t be serious man.

We said we had to work on free throw shooting and defense last year.

It’s ok to talk bad about our team and to say changes may need to be made.

Isiah fucked up tonight by putting Jones on James at the start of the 4th.

Isiah fucked up tonight by staying in that freakin zone when Cleveland was stroking 3′s every time down the floor.

Terrible….just a terrible loss.

28 Peaceman November 2, 2007 at 10:17 pm

Davonn
I only get upset when the Knicks don’t bring the effort!
We had this game, let it get away! I’ll tell you what I
did like in the closing moments! The emotion from the players on the bench
looked nothing like last year! The faces of the Knick did not take this loss lightly!
They looked pissed, unlike last year!

29 DNM November 2, 2007 at 10:19 pm

Van Gundy just gave props to the Knicks for playing a good game tonight. Is it wishful thinking to hope that he might come back if Isiah is gone?

30 DaVonn J November 2, 2007 at 10:19 pm

Terrible….just a terrible loss.

31 DaVonn J November 2, 2007 at 10:20 pm

Who here was defending Richardson again?

That guy needs to be moved from the 3 spot.

Why is Crawford still starting?

Why do we see the problems but Isiah doesn’t?

32 HarleminMD November 2, 2007 at 10:21 pm

I don’t know what yall saw, but I saw a good team who is learning to share the ball. Marbury is not bein allowed to dominate. IT will learn that he can’t play small and zone, or else he will be fired. But we got a team yall. Zach is a player. Curry played well. We need to come off the zone and learn to rebound better and we will be ok.

33 DNM November 2, 2007 at 10:22 pm

Isiah won’t change the starting lineup unless we start off 2-10 or some other ridiculous number.
He’s way too stubborn, we know that. Unless Balkman is still hurt, why the hell didn’t he play more? I don’t understand.
Our offense is fine, but the defense is killing us. Especially the perimeter D.
Gibson lit us up with 6 three pointers.

34 DNM November 2, 2007 at 10:24 pm

Harlem,
I’m just tired of moral victories.
The only thing that matters after years of this crap is getting wins.
Call me impatient if you will.
But I think the fans have earned the right to expect something more.

35 Peaceman November 2, 2007 at 10:27 pm

Good post game interview with Zeke!
What did the Cav’S shoot from the free throw line?
22-31? Knicks 14-21? 80 games left! We’ll be fine!

36 Chicken Little November 2, 2007 at 10:30 pm

The Knicks lost a basketball game!!!

The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

Save me Ron Artest! Save me Jeff Van Gundy!

Haaaaaaalppppppppp!!!!

37 Peaceman November 2, 2007 at 10:31 pm

I believe fred Jones is out of the rotation when Balk is 100%!
We could of used 15-20 minutes from Jeffries tonight!

38 DNM November 2, 2007 at 10:32 pm

Is Balkman still hurt?

39 Syd November 2, 2007 at 10:32 pm
40 DNM November 2, 2007 at 10:33 pm

Celtics killed Washington.
Atlanta beat the Mavs.
The East is going to be very tough this year…

41 Peaceman November 2, 2007 at 10:37 pm

ATL beat Dallas tonight? Jersey, Heat, Magic all tanked along with the knicks!
I’m not backwheeling here, just staeing that it’s one game!
We’ll take it out on the Wolfs, who BTW gave Denver fits tonight!
The East is wide open, and we will return the favor to the Cav’s at home!

42 HarleminMD November 2, 2007 at 10:41 pm

I think those comments by IT that LeBron is the greatest player in the world did not help us. He got calls from the refs like he is Jordan.

43 JohnQ November 2, 2007 at 10:45 pm

Perimeter defensive lapses and a badly played zone. Lebron could have had 55 and we wouldnt have lost. Gibson was an assasin. We lost this on wide open 3s.

Why would Zeke go zone ? We played decent defense tonite. There was no reason to switch.

Why would he not put Balkman back in the game for one more crack at James? The kid was hyped from the get go but his overzealousness got him 3 quick fouls. Give the kid a half and put him back in at the end of the 3rd. After all that time to settle down he needs to get another try.

There were so many positives in this game it wasn’t funny. If they can learn to play the D they have shown flashes of for a whole 48 minutes they will be so dangerous its silly. If they play it off and on we will be 8th seed if were lucky.

So whos fault was it ? Marbury for his 3-11, 5 asst night ? The free throw shooting being at 60% ? (0-5 Curry) or Zeke for going small w/ Jones, Nate and JC for a stretch and following that blunder by benching Lee and going Zone ?

I’m going to hang this one on IT. I think all of the other lapses could have been overcome if it wasn’t for his player substitutions in the fourth. They had been good up until that point. The zone was the nail in the coffin. 3! 3! 3! Get the friggin point man !!!!! If not for that 2 minute stretch we take this game.

44 DNM November 2, 2007 at 10:45 pm

We better not lose Sunday…or else I will really be worried.

45 DNM November 2, 2007 at 10:47 pm

If Isiah gets canned by Christmas, Van Gundy is available.

46 DaVonn J November 2, 2007 at 11:21 pm

no comments tonight because what we saw tonight was what we were seeing all last year.

you guys are realizing that there is only so much we can say.

the wins have to start coming in.

if not…bye bye to Zeke.

If Zeke goes…steph goes.

Damn guys…

Terrible…..just terrible.

47 DaVonn J November 2, 2007 at 11:22 pm

Is anybody watching the Lakers game?

They look really good.

48 DaVonn J November 2, 2007 at 11:23 pm

Anybody remember what I said about Fisher bringing something to the table the Lakers haven’t had since they won their last ring?

He came out and went right at Nash.

I think he hit his first 4 shots out the gate.

May not seem like much but it means a lot.

Now the Lakers are almost up by 20 with Kobe on the bench.

Odum isn’t even playing either.

49 MODI November 2, 2007 at 11:26 pm

This game was lost on Crawfords lack of perimiter D. plain and simple.

50 DaVonn J November 3, 2007 at 1:21 am

Wow…

Did anybody watch the entire Laker game?
They dominated the Suns.
Let me tell you something….with Fisher back, the Lakers are going to surprise a lot of people this year.
Like I said, he’s not the player to take them to a Chip but he is a CHAMPIONSHIP PG…You can’t say the
same thing about Nash or Kidd. He did Nash tonight on both ends of the floor. Nash had no answer for him.
Fisher knows how to control the game from the start to finish.
Once Odum gets back…I think the Lakers have the potential to finish top 5 in the west…
They lost to a Rockets team that will finish top 5 in the west by 2 points..then they come right back and
blow out a healthy Suns team….in Phoneix?

As far as the Knicks go..

Terrible…..just terrible.

Zach and Curry looked great. Marbury looked good also because he was scoring in transition and not in the
half court game. Lee was great.

The only knocks I have is Crawfords defense and Isiah’s choice to put in Jones (6 foot 2) on James (6 foot 9).

Other than that..you can’t say the Knicks played bad.

Nate was incredible and I love how Isiah takes Steph out the game early in each half and let’s Nate rock.
If he would’ve put Balkman in instead of Jones at the start of the fourth we would’ve won. I even said it
back at 9:21PM when the quarter was starting that he should put the Taz in.

For Isiah to be so smart…..these are mistakes that it seems like an inexperienced person would make. Sometimes,
you think the guy never played ball a day in his life. Then you remember he’s the best little man to ever play the
game and you just scratch your head.

Anyway….me and my Starbucks are talking right now.
