Knicks Share with Us their Favorite Halloween Costumes
October 30, 2007 – 12:15 amWell, today marks the first day of the regular season, what’s on my mind? Well, the Knicks aren’t playing today, so forget all that Oden-less Portland vs Spurs noise on TNT–do they ever pick the right games to televise anyway? Answer: not in the last three or four years…
I’ll tell you what’s on my mind, what costume do I wear for Halloween this year? The Knicks give us some of their feedback.

not a basketball link, but here is an espn article on the really bad timing of the A-rod opt-out the other night. It was upstaging now that I think about it, but I didn’t realize it at the time. I was watching the game and was shocked to hear the news that he’d opted out, because I had heard how much they were offering him and thought for sure he would not opt out–I admit my baseball knowledge is scant compared to my basketball knowledge. Now I hear talk of bluffs and 300 million dollar contracts. wow. I wonder what MODI thinks about it all.

I would actually prefer to see Howard join the Cavs. I don’t feel the same antagonism towards Cleveland as I do Boston. Boston was attempting and now is NY’s main rival in the world of professional sports. So far the Boston area teams have been lording it over thos of the NY squads. All we have now is for our NBA club to represent and for the Boston Celtics rosey colored championship glasses CRACK–ergo when one of the big three goes down or their too worn out come playoff time.

I just looked at the CAV’S roster whic we will face on our opening night!
Man, the Majority of that team is old as Mehtusala! D Marshall, Snow, Hughs, Ilgzuskas!
Dnice was a good pick up, now Lebron has a deadly 3 point threat to kick it out to when
he’s double teamed! Dnice couldn’t of landed in a better situaton! He will get plenty of Burn!
I have nothing but love for all who once wore the O&B! I have a little

I found this interesting from Hahn’s article tday…….
Thomas said yesterday that the Knicks showed only “maybe two or three plays” out of the playbook during the preseason, so one might surmise a potentially lethal pick-and-pop game with Marbury and Randolph and some more variations of those backdoor alley-oops between Crawford and Curry have yet to be unveiled.
I’ll be happy to see him insert the rest of the plays and see how well the boys come together. I have high hopes that they will gel early and come out of the gate strong.
I’m starting to get really excited about the upcoming season. GO NY GO NY GO !!!!!!

N.B.A.’s Television Partners Get Expanded Digital Rights
*
NY Times
By RICHARD SANDOMIR
Published: October 30, 2007
“ESPN and TNT will start the N.B.A. season with a slew of new digital rights that will, among other things, let them stream their games live on their broadband outlets.
“Part of the point is that when we get exclusive games, we can broadcast them anywhere,” said John Skipper, the executive vice president for content at ESPN. “When we have a Friday doubleheader, you can watch it on TV, or on your phone, or you can watch it on your computer on ESPN360.com.” ESPN360.com is a broadband service.
The digital rights were negotiated in eight-year media agreements that were announced in June and will pay the N.B.A. $7.4 billion through 2015-16. As part of the deals, ESPN and TNT were allowed to deploy their digital rights this season, while the first year of the television portions of the contracts does not start until next season.
“We all agreed that these were rights that advertisers were demanding,” said Adam Silver, the N.B.A.’s deputy commissioner and chief operating officer. “And it made no sense to send them into the marketplace with one hand tied behind their backs.”
Now even Osama can kick back in his cave and watch his favorite team along with a billion Chinese and others.7.4 ducats is just the beginning. Can you see why Stern and co. want complete control of their product.Little Jimmy better understand who’s money he’s really messing with.By the way,Cablevision isn’t to big to be eaten or bought out by an even bigger communications conglomerate, rumors abound. There may yet be hope yet!Boo! Defenders,
Good AM to all of you! I see the Kobe trade talks are dominating the MSM on the East Coast. Ernie denied this morning that the Wizards are interested in trading Agent 0 for Kobe; Which means he is considering it at the least; I believe Agent 0 can opt out at the end of this year, so they would be negligent if they did not inquire. Although, with Kobe’s veto power concerning all trades, I’m not sure DC is the market he is looking for from a commercial vantage point. Leaving the Knicks and Chicago as the only viable teams left to deal with in terms of commensurate salaries and tradeable players. You know the dollars have to line up correctly, along with the level of talent. IF I was IT, I’m not sure I would gut my team for Kobe, and if Curry is involved Kwame Browne is coming with Kobe, and I don’t think Kobe wants that to happen. Let the games begin! Mystery, intrigue, skullduggery…
Also, many of you may be aware or not, that I engaged with MARK from a bloggin perspective on KK (my first and probably my last time doing so…Never say never…)last evening. And, our exchange was relatively harmless, but we both could present are thoughts and positions intelligently and respectfully. For the record, I know most of you probably thought I had flipped my WIG in doing so, but he is a child of God just like the rest of US, and though we may not agree with his opinions, mannerisms, his team and franchise analysis, name-calling, and OVERALL ATTITUDE, BUT HE WITHOUT SIN CAST THE FIRST STONE… (I have been KNOWN TO FLICK OUT and get a little nasty and raunchy, but it is not right). His response reveals his perspective and some of his points are valid, and others are not, but I respect his right to have them and share them, regardless how uncomfortable it feels, as he should respect our right to do the same without the insults and the negativity. It also revealed that he can communicate without the hyperbole and the sarcasism, just be a regular Kat expressing his views the best way he knows how…
In the end DEFENDERS, none of US are really ALL that different when you get down to it, but we have been conditioned accentuate what separates us, verse the commonalities THAT BIND US…(THAT IS WHAT AMKES THE KNICKDEFENSE SO SPECIAL AND UNIQUE

Defenders, a portion of my post got cut off, but I will not let that stop me from sharing this good word with you…
Today’s Quote
If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.
Today’s Scripture
“Now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love” (I Corinthians 13:13 NIV).
Today’s Word
Spiritual maturity isn’t measured by how long you’ve been a Christian, or how much you know, or how often you go to church. Spiritual maturity is measured by the way you treat other people. It’s measured by the love you allow to operate in you. Corinthians tells us that one characteristic of love is that it is not rude. That means, when we are walking in love, we treat other people with courtesy and respect. Are you courteous to other people? Are you kind to the person at the check-out counter that may be moving too slowly for you? Are you gentle when you are driving down the highway and someone cuts you off? Are you patient with your family and coworkers? These are all characteristics of love. The Bible tells us that love is patient. It is kind. It does not envy; it is not proud. It is not rude. Love is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrong. Love never fails. Notice that these characteristics don’t have anything to do with feelings. Love is a choice. You can choose to walk in love toward people even when you don’t feel like it! Make the choice to do what is right. Choose today to show kindness and be courteous to others. Look for ways to cultivate the greatest thing in your life-love! As you do, you’ll move forward into the life of blessing God has in store for you!
A Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, thank You for working in my life. Thank You for loving me so that I can show love to those around me. Keep me close to You, and help me be an instrument of love to those around me. Amen.
Hopefully the rest will show up somewhere and you will get a chance to read it or ignore it…

Looks like we’ll be at full strength come opening night. They said Balkman will play against Cleveland.
We finally get to see Balkman mix it up with Zach. We all notice how better we are when Zach and Lee are
on the floor together. I wonder if they had Balkman at the 3….what would that look like?
I feel sorry for these other teams….if Isiah only showed 2-3 of his plays in the preseason, that’s a
great move. We still finished with a better than 500 record.
Now we don’t really have to worry about the little 3 weeks without Jeffries because we got Balkman coming
back at the 3. Then we get Jeffries back and we take off running.
Is it true Dwayne Wade isn’t coming back till mid December?
Why haven’t more people spoke about the Heat not winning a single game in the preseason?
If the Cavs don’t sign their 2 free agents….will they even make the playoffs?
What is the over under for the # of games played before one of the Celtics big three goes down?
Who here really thinks Kidd had a back problem through preseason?
What happened to him gropping that woman? Seems that story vanished…..smh
I’ll be at a few games this year…some at the Garden and all their games in NJ.
If I go to that Denver game…I’ll swing on through section 123….I think I’ll be there.

Nice piece on a great trade by Riley for New Heat Ricky Davis:
Davis has a better career shooting percentage than Paul Pierce.
He has averaged more assists in his career than Richard Hamilton.
He has a better scoring average during the past six years than Richard Jefferson.
He has a better career three-point shooting percentage than Tracy McGrady.
And that was all before playing with the human diversion that is Shaquille O’Neal.

Juwan Howard goes to Dallas:
“Juwan was too big of an opportunity to pass up,” president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson told mavs.com. “Juwan is a winner, he’s a leader and he knows the Maverick way.
“He can swing from the ‘4’ to ‘5,’ so it gives us tremendous flexibility on the frontline.”
Howard should join the rotation immediately backing up Gana Diop and Dirk Nowitzki up front. The Mavs were in need of help down low, especially with Erick Dampier out. Brandon Bass was the only other healthy big man with NBA experience on the roster.

You heard that rumor out Bermy that the Cavs will send DNich to the DLeague?
What you think about that?
DLeague still eats up a roster spot. By picking him up, that may mean Pavlovic doesn’t have a spot anymore. Didn’t the Cavs trade for Cedric Simmons too? He could be a Varejao replacement.
I’d cut Malik Rose and JJames, eat their contracts and sign Varejao if he became available (after he’s finished with this hold out). But the money doesn’t match and Cavs would have to let him go. Neither side seems to want to budge. What a weird predicament.

From SLAM
We’re with you live (sort of) at 11 a.m. EST for an ESPN phone press conference with Bob Rauscher, VP of production, and, more importantly, analysts and former coaches Jeff Van Gundy and Hubie Brown. The biggest question is whether Van Gundy and Rauscher will have any time to get a word in edgewise.
…It’s my turn (last!), and I skip the announcing theory question and ask about the Knicks. Heck, both guys coached there (even if Hubie’s stint was over 20 years ago) Is this the year they finally put it together?
Hubie: From a talent situation, they have enough talent to make it in the East. They only won 30 games last year, but they don’t have to make a major jump. But you have to get Curry and Randolph on the same page, whether it’s the high low or how you do it. Randolph is a tremendous rebounder—and you have David Lee. The key for them is can they rebound the ball on a consistent basis, and can they improve their assists. If they improve their assists, the chemistry will develop…And then their halfcourt defense has been suspect for several years. And you do not have shotblocking which is a major minus. It’s about consistency in defending and rebounding.
Jeff: Think the hardest thing to analyze is health. Look at the Blazers this offseason, or the Clippers with Brand. And last year the Knicks were playing very good when Lee went out. I think they’d be better served starting Curry OR Randolph with David Lee. He should lead the team in minutes played. Think that role definitely is critical. You want Marbury and Jamal to play assertively. And they have a lot of glue-type players. Lee and Q are glue type players, hard playing. Balkman, Nate—even though he’s a little nutty—are glue-type guys. That needs to transfer to the starters. Health and finding the right rotation are the biggest things. I’m just not sure whether Curry and Randolph together give enough rebounding and defense.
Hubie: Through the preseason, they were better with one of those guys off the floor. When Curry was out of the games, I thought they had better production.

Now, you know this comes with a disclaimer, being that is comes from the horse’s mouth that is Bermy. In between bites of his boiled eggplant and sauteed onions HERO with garlic sauce on the side, he managed to squeeze these words out of his arse for his blogging constituency:
There is talk the Cavs, who host the Knicks Friday, may send Nichols to the Developmental League, which would be ironic. Nichols would’ve been better off in Treviso, Italy, where the Knicks were going to send him to keep his rights during the summer.

Bermy is one of the more creative writers on the Knicks beat and his opinion should be taken as serious as a plea from bald Britney Spears to her devoutness in Buddhism.

Knicks Knacks dude is trying to start some, but James Dolan ain’t having none with D. Stern:
I don’t know if anybody saw NBA commissioner David Stern on ESPN last night, but he was asked how the sexual harassment fiasco in any way spoke to the state of the Knicks franchise.
Just so you know, Stern doesn’t waste time hiding emotions.
“It demonstrates that they’re not a model of intelligent management,” Stern said. “There were many checkpoints along the way where more decisive action would have eliminated this issue.”
Wow.
By BARF on Oct 30, 2007 at 4:24 pm
David Stern is power maniac and needs to retire as to salvage whats left of entertaining basketball. This would be a perfect time for another league to start up and start convincing NBA players to switch their affiliations like in the ABA days. I would definetly be up for watching basketball the way it used to be played instead of this constant stop and go with ticky tack fouls which enable higher scores. It’s has gotten rediculous. I agree with Raheed when he states that NBA is turning into the WWE. I’ve been saying it for years and I will not change my stance. I already believed that the refs were cheating and when they caught Tim Dougnaghy I was all like “It’s about damn time.” How can he talk about one’s intelligence when he wasn’t even aware of stuff going on in his own house?

My thoughts on Demitros Nichols is this(I’m taking back the Knick name because he dosen’t deserve it) he didn’t want NY. He just wanted to use this as an opprotunity to showcase his skills so he could be picked up by another team. So instead of being apart of a promising future here in NY he will now probably be a prostitute player until he learns the nuances of the game. So that means Cleveland this year and probably Washington next year and so on and so forth. He’ll probably find a steady home after about 3 or 4 years in the league. Good riddance and bad luck to Mr. Nichols.

See Peace my man
You have my logic confused with someone else’s conclusions. I’m aware that he has game because Isiah would not have accquired him if his game was not up to par. My logic has more to do with his unloyal type actions to a dude who was willing to give him a chance after 52 picks had already passsed. I’m aware of his ability to shoot and would of been happy to see him on the team but that is not happening. Now he’ll have to suffer like the rest of the leage as the NY Knicks redeem their selves for past failures.

Peaceman;
I like your idea of meeting at one of the N.Y. sports bars to watch a game, but this Friday strikes me as too short notice. I think we should plan such event with some lead time. I cannot make it this Friday (opening game), but could make it on alomost any night thereafter. I think Starburyfan should take the leadership role in organizing the gathering; I believe, if given enough notice and some planning, along with enough r.s.v,p. commitments, we could have a Defender night to remember.

I see your point Boomann!
But let’s look at Dnice’s perspective!
According to Hahn( Nichols lit up practice with treys) and what we saw in Summer league,
let alone his last minutes as a Knick, maybe he felt that Zeke was not being loyal to him?
Seems Dnice was right! The moment he cleared waviers, the Cav’s jumped on him, faster than
than Mitch Lawrence was turned away by any decent looking woman!

I read the little piece you got from Steve Adameck’s Blog.
I was listening to some Steven A and was fortunate to catch it when Steven A was interviewing NBA Commissioner David Stern.
What was interesting was that when Steven posed to Stern the whole Knicks ABS Sexual harrasment question he answered with the following response– note I am paraphrasing.
Basically that the whole ABS Sexual Harrasment matter could be interpreted as giving the league an opportunity to reevaluate it’s workplace habits at the various NBA venues and that as such going foward the NBA would be much the better for it. Essentially Stern mentioned that during the league meeting with various owners he was introducing his plan to reevaluate and help NBA rehaul their procedures to a standard of conduct the NBA would set so as to aovid a reply of ABS.
Additionally with regards to the Knicks in particular he said that the Knicks would be better off in the long run after this episode since going foward they could now rehaul their procedures and measures to address workplace harrasment.
Lastly Stern pointed out that winning and the regular season with ZBO as the new addition to the Knicks would help cure some of the ill will arising from the ABS fiasco.
Hey I agree with Post UP Prince I would be willing to go to catch a game at a sports bar but at a later date and with more adequate notice.

I have a question to the Defenders
I’ve been hearing this back and forth about the suspect nature of the NBA game– the Ballerina league or WWE etc– and to add to that are the comments that Stern or his cronies for marketing purposes might have had an incentive to get LeBron to the finals over a more complete Piston team.
My question is if the Bulls get Kobe will Stern, hypothetically and assuming any truth to the conspiracy theory, favor Kobe in Chicago over an emerging Knick team? Will we have a replay of the Charles Smith no calls so that Kobe in the red of the Chicago Bulls can sell more market shares to Stern’s NBA investors?
I’m sort of worried only to the extent that the Knicks don’t have that “Trnascendent Supestar” player who might draw favorable calls> I wonder if in the event the Bulls get Kobe will the Bulls with their “transcendent superstar” get the calls against are beloved orange and blue. In short will we ever catch a fair break?
This line of reasoning leads me to think that maybe, if the game is fixed and stacked to favor the “transcendent superstar,” why not make a bid for Kobe. I recall someone here mention the three players it would take to get him.
Additionally talks of NY make a strong bid for Kobe might up the ante so that Chicago feels desperate to throw in players it would not otherwise, thereby leaving the potential Kobe Bulls less dangerous.
But if I were to have it my way I’d love to see the Knicks as they are now succeed and make a finals showing anf get the NYC the ship it’s long deserved.
Anyfeedback peeps?

O&B
I don’t think stern, a new yorker, has shown enough favoritism towards the knicks. ever since that ewing draft he’s gone out of his way to depict indifference towards the home team when he should be making some of the networks pickup knicks games and other stuff that supports the knicks. we only won 33 games last season, yet there were a lot of exciting games played by the knicks. when i watch those boring games on TNT and ESPN, you know they always show the same 6 team combinations, the league needs the knicks to matter again soon.
kobe can be kind of spoiled. i think he and KG, lebron those are three of the best individual players int the league right now, but they each have their personalities. And also going with what booman was saying about d-nice, if he don’t want us, then I don’t want him (Kobe). everything i hear is that he wants chi. does he even have interest in helping the knicks turn things around?
>>>
as far as the sports bar, how about around the time of the denver game peaceman was talking about? what day is that on peace? i haven’t look at any schedules yet, that will be my next post, the november schedule.
is that cool with everybody? if we get enough feedback here i can send out an email to everybody. if there is another game that everyone prefers that’s also a possibility. i went to almost all the games last season, this year i haven’t bought tickets to any of them yet, so sport bar is cool with me.

does the juwan howard to dallas signing do anything in terms of kobe going to dallas or chi?
did jalen rose finally retire, or is he still active on a roster? C-webb is still playing, juwan is still playing…
when I was at the boston game two weeks ago, the people behind me saw malik and said “now which rose is that, is that Jalen?”
the other boston guy said, “uh. I don’t think so… I think it is another rose, but I can’t think of his name.”
Then they saw nate come into the game. “man, that #4 is really short, how short is he, like 5-11?”
I just sat there and watched the game and minded my own business. other teams fans are oblivious of the knicks, yet I know their players. people just want the home team to win.

If the Nets move back to Brooklyn in a few years, as scheduled, the city of Newark should make a major PUSH for the Sonics franchise. I know it would disrupt the conferences, ect, but Newark just got a brand new 18,000 seat arena where the NJ Devils will play. It is waking distance from the PATH trains, therefore walking distance from Manhattan. All the people that didn’t go to the nets games because of transportation problems would probably make it out to this new arena in Newark. That is just how I see it.

Don’t get me wrong, I really would like the Knicks to win with the team they have constituted. I really don’t care for Kobe but my whole rant was just about the frustration I feel with regards to the lack fo respect the Knicks get and have gotten in the past. I mean I’ve gotten a sense before the whole referee scandal and Rasheed Wallace rants that the league tended to favor its superstars or transcendents more than the collective efforts of the team– the exception of course being the Detroit Pistons under the HOF coach whose name we do not mention.
Also regarding your question about a Howard perhaps being a sign of Kobe Bryant possibly having an option in Dallas, I thought that LA was asking for Nowitsky in any potential trade for Kobe. I believe that I read somewhere that Dallas would not give up Nowitsky in order to get Kobe.

“The Newark Sonics” HA! more like the “Newark urban revival.” Though it would be good for Jersey’s people to have a team. Then again what did they do to keep the Nets?
Oh what I am trying to get to with regard to the national MSM reaction to stories such the Celtics revival, the Kobe to Chicago is that perhaps when one compares the relative big splash those stories make over the mum but steady and effective rebuilding/revival the Knicks are going to experience under Thomas perhaps the national MSM ignores the Knicks potential b/c their emergence will not be the result of a big splash move. ON the flip side the ire that the national MSM takes up against the Knicks might reflect the local coverage.

What is sort of troubling is Barkley’s failure do some basic background check to see if the statement alleged was actually made or whether the statement was misconstrued. If Barkley had done some work and seen the deposition in detail would Barkley have made such a statement. Again I tend to think that the national MSM takes its lead from the local MSM. I would love to check with MODI to see what his insight would be though.
Anyway what do you think of the lack of love the Knicks are getting from the ESPN “anal lyst”?

1)Your point about Barkley is correct, he should THINK and learn BEFORE he talks.
2) As far as the “No Love” for our Knicks…that’s good,Zeke has to put this team in an “Us against the World” mentality.Let everyone sleep on us.I don’t think the key is the EC-ZBo combo,I think they will be fine. I think Q,Steph,JCraw MUST punish other teams with the 3-pointers to keep that space EC and ZBo will need. IF we can drain those 3’s…..no one will sleep on us again.Hold the love for the playoffs, no one is watching us…..GOOD!

Agreed with the point about the perimeter players having to make further adjustments in order to compliment the EZ pass combo. Did you get the impression that Crawford’s rough preseason was partially the result of having to adjust to working his shot off the perimeter instead of his more conventional drive and pop style? I think Crawford may have the hardest adjustment to make b/c of his freelance style of play, Marbury had already been working towards adjusting his game to become the more conventional PG the Knicks need whereas for a scoring oriented rather than perimeter shooting gaurd such as Crawford the adjustment might take more time. This is where a repeat my tired mantra that Crawford should come of the bench to better accomodate his style of play.

Not for nothing…if the Lakers can stay healthy this year…they will make some noise.
Fisher brings a whole new element to this team that they’ve been missing since he left.
Instead of Smush Parker as their starting PG….they have Fisher.
Fisher is a CHAMPIONSHIP CALIBER (spell check) point guard. Now the Lakers won’t be so
dominated by the Suns, Mavs and Spurs at the PG position.
Nash, Parker and Terry normally kill the Lakers, heavily swinging the advantage to their teams.
With Fisher back…..Kobe can go back being a straight scorer and defender.
I personally don’t think Kobe will go anywhere.
I think they will start the season off well. Kobe and everybody else will realize that what he did
only made their team stronger and better.
My dream is a Knicks vs. Lakers finals. That would be retarded indeed.
I’ll let you guys know about the Denver game.

Starburyfan #71, Do you really think an nba franchise will be successful in jersey state??????
#69 Any Sportsbar in midtown is fine with me.
Orange & Blue. #68 I see the Knicks as one hell of a scoring machine and will not be an easy out even if they get off to a slow start in a game. Most games for us this year will come down to the fourth quarter and in its final minutes… And yes in Kobe will get the favorable call then. Defense will be the Key, we will need to stop him cleanly (aka lockdown defender), make him either give up the ball or take a bad shot. I don’t like the bulls and will hate them even more if Kobe wears their uniform.

syd, please don’t put down jersey–let’s not forget this will be the second time the nets franchise will attempt to reside in brooklyn. i’m not convinced they’ll do any better in brooklyn than in NJ because new yorkers are knicks fans, first and foremost.
as I stated before, the main reason the nets struggle in terms of crowd attendance is because many people in the surrounding areas find it difficult to commute to the arena. you basically need a car unless you want to take a train to get to a bus that will go there or cab it outright. the new arena in newark is far more accessible to commuters than anything out in east rutherford. i don’t have to lobby for it, if it makes sense, and the rich real estate developers fail to kick those generational families out of their homes (its a shame what people do for the love of money) down by the brooklyn railyards, the natural choice will be newark despite jay-z’s inclinations.
but let’s just see how the old nets do in the frank gehry building assuming it gets built. i’m in brooklyn pretty often during the week and I can only speak for myself when I say I’ll never cheer for the nets even after they’ve completed their transplant back to brooklyn.

KNICKS DEFENSE HALLOWEEN ROLL CALL
Good Morning DEFENDERS. Happy Halloween. It’s almost time for the start of a season-long Monster Mash, at MSG and visiting stadiums near you, and the Blogger Bash at “www.KnickDefense.come and read the best in Knicks analysis and commentary in the blogosphere.”
The atmosphere is electric; the energy is building in the building. Our host with the most, Blogzilla a/k/a Starburyfan, the dominator and wacky terminator, has created a Frankenstein of a Blog. The where?wolves are here, wearing Knicks Jerseys, EwingCurse talismans and cross-over dribbles to defeat the bloodsuckers of the Atlantic Division. How will the division be divided? Yes, we know. With the Knicks upstairs in playoff glory and the Net Worthless’, 70sickers, Craptors, and CellarTicks in . . .well, the cellar graveyard. Long Live Knicks Love.
Gentle Folks, are we ready to receive the winnings and “shiny stuff” we so richly deserve for our fanaticism? Are we ready to bask in the rain of treys and the reign of our BIGS in the paint? Are we ready to Post-Up Princely and to be Steady while we get Cooleyhigh and be Poppin in Orange and Blue?
If the answer is yes, and I know it is, it is time for the Official 2007-2008 Roll Call for Knick Defense. Training camp is over and we are ready like Freddy Krueger. So let’s do this.
Yes, we are scary good. On October 1, there were three posters (Modi, Steady and Robin) hanging out with our esteemed host preparing this space for our arrival. With the following words by Shamgod, on October 8 at 10:05 pm at Knicks Fix, the migration began: “Go courtside with news and commentary on the wacky world of the New York Knicks. Wacky world of the NY Knicks? C’mon what kind of ad is that? Sounds like they are making a joke of the Team” on Knicks Fix.” .
Shortly thereafter, BARF on October 9th at 7:42pm set his flag in the heart of KD post territory with the following comment heralding a historic journey that would shake the blogosphere and turn this private haven into the headquarters of Knicks intel. BARF wrote, “Maybe that wacky stuff won’’t go down and we’’ll all migrate here.” Truer words were never typed. . . .
And here we are. Fall In. Attention. Roll call at 47 strong and growing:
Modi, BARF, Peaceman, Jazz, BronxboyinMD, Orange and Blue, Cooleyhigh, Steady, John Q, Shamgod, Robin, Lives In New Jersey, Bumrush40, DaVonnJ, African, Post-Up Prince, Anti-NYSportsnews, Boomann, Statesman, Syd, DNM, DLT Knicks, Poppin Scoski, Harlemboyin MD, St._George, Charles Follymacher, Stopmikelupica, Bokonon, George M., Knicksome, Saipanknickster, TMAN, Minnesota Knicks Fan, MAK, LGM, Andone, Kandiman, Don, Ali G, Dross, Rush, Kevin Harewood, Frantz Richard, Sean Butcher, Trane, Vic Corbitt and Marquette ‘07.

O&B, it’s hard to take seriously anything Barkely says, and if I recall he has made a couple of pretty sexist statements in the past and might not be the guy to do all of this moralizing. In short, barkely probably desrves no response.
Blogzilla, to your opening post, as a Yankee fan I am very upset at the prospect of losing AROD, but OTOH, if I were AROD I would say “fuck the Yankees, the NY media, and the fans”. He was treated like shit and New York simply doesn’t deserve him. Period.
As for ESPN the fact that not one of 10 writers picked them says a lot. Just statistically, it is very odd. It tells me that they probably spend too much time talking to each other beforehand and it affects them.

Agree with your take on the national “anal lyst,” @ #91 in that they don’t have a clue and that the majority of the information they convey about the team is pure word of mouth instead of observation. Sad thing is that you would expect a bit more effort from the sportwriters of the much baleyhood ESPN– proverbial sports media giant LMFAO. Instead of hearing them regurgitate news and dis-perspectie they get from the NY MSM I would think that such a “professional” grouup of “anal lyst” would do their own research into the team Isiah is building. It’s one think to raise as a question whether the EZ pass big man combo will pan out and how long will it take to do so but it’s another thing to disregard the solid drafting and acquisitions Thomas has made– of course sans JJames. The bunk spilled by SheSPNs “anal lyst” shows me their are lazy regurgitators that merely take their lead from the NY Sports Tabloids.
With regards to your point about the lack of love from Kobe. The NY Yankees respnse to A-Rod sums it up best for me “if Kobe doesn’t want to be a part of a NY Knick team then we don’t certainly want Kobe!” Agree that our perimeter defense should be better this season though I think early on it might a result of Thomas’ emphasis on jumping the passing lanes. This approach ought to make it harder for opposing teams to connect on their post entry and perimeter kickouts but in the long term better overall perimeter defense will be required. My point with Kobe is that its a shame that the league may continue to disrespect the league b/c of the teams lack of a “transcendent” player and that the team is disregard b/c of the very low key by the way nature Thomas’ has rebuilt this team.
Here’s something MODI may want to comment on, it’s a story about the Knicks from a west coast-San Francisco- sportswriter commenting on the Knicks though he is so far removed from the story and compounds that problem with his failure to check the basis of his claims against Isiah and the Knicks.
“Isiah Thomas, known around the league as a bully, a con man and a snake behind that breezy smile and mellow speaking voice, got nailed this summer when a jury found against the Knicks and Madison Square Garden in a sexual harassment suit involving Thomas and one of the club’s female executives. Although Thomas is appealing - to the accompaniment of derisive laughter throughout New York - the case brought disgrace upon one of the league’s most important franchises.
Thanks to incompetent MSG chairman James Dolan, who inherited his money and couldn’t run a five-cent lemonade stand, the Knicks have been a travesty for years - surely the only organization clueless enough to hire Thomas in any capacity. At a time when they could have settled out of court, they stubbornly went ahead with the case - during which Thomas, in a videotaped deposition, derided the Knicks’ white fan base and announced that while he has “a problem” with a white man calling a black woman a “bitch” (one of many accusations leveled against Thomas by the plaintiff, Anucha Browne Sanders, who was fired by Dolan), it’s within a black man’s rights to do so. The media’s outrage, particularly from influential African American sports columnists, was formidable.
Incensed over claims that he has let the Knicks off the hook, Stern said (a) sanctions may yet be coming and (b) there’s an important distinction between criminal cases and the he-said, she-said nature of the Knicks’ civil litigation. A larger point: The Knicks were ordered to pay $11.6 million in damages. In the real world, Thomas and Dolan don’t get away with such nonsense. Until further notice in Stern’s world: Hey, no problem.”
Starburyfan
Love your social commentary about the darker side of the Nets rellocation to brooklyn. I wonder why that story is not given as much commentary and analysis in the NY MSM when compared to the ABS story. Although some may attempt to spin the ABS story as one in which the career of one person was affected the rellocation of the Nets to Brooklyn and the means whereby it will be acheived, by demolition the homes and neighborhoods of intergenerational residents of NY, should get way more attention. In that instance the lives of many people are effected. In the Nets case, if as you have described, its for a different sort of corporate folly that of greed at any cost. I wonder if MODI or anyone closer to the Brooklyn area has done such a story.
Hey it would make good counterspin to throw a deck of the Nets dirty organizational shenanigans out but that much like J Kidds crotch groping get no play in the NY MSM. Is it b/c,… I won’t go their!

Lastly for today, … or at least untill mid day.
Could Sterns slight at the Knicks have some basis in the ending of the Larry Brown tenure in New York?
“It’s doubtful Stern believes that all the Knicks have to do is win some games in order to clean their house. The commissioner has been troubled since the Larry Brown fiasco of two summers ago, and is concerned over the recent sexual harassment judgment levied against Dolan and Isiah Thomas by a federal jury, which supported the claims of Anucha Browne Sanders by awarding her $11.6 million. ”

It’s Halloween!Trick or treat!
From the NY Post,
“I can’t separate myself from the team’s achievements or disappointments,” Thomas said. “Whatever we do together as a group, we’ll all take the blame for.”
There is oceanic depth. There is a promise of motion on offense, and on the other end an even bigger promise to defend to the death - or at least the fourth quarter.
“He’s our best player. I’ve run out of adjectives for this guy. He is our team.”
“This is pretty much a veteran ballclub. “We have one rookie. We have a lot of bigs. This is probably the biggest team I’ve been on.”
“His willingness to win, his desire to win. The mark he puts on the game, offensively and defensively, is second to none. He makes it easier for all of us. By him doing that, we all want to make it easier for him.”
“He’s a great player. He’s the leader on the court, …one of our best defenders and certainly our best passer.”
“I just have to be myself,” he said, “do what I did last year:. Find the open guy, play defense. My game hasn’t changed since I came into the league, so there’s nothing I have to do now.”
Trick!Gotcha!

Here is what Isiah Thomas had to say following 10/30 Practice:
How important is it to get off to a good start?
Thomas: With the way the schedule is, anytime you play at home you want to win. We have four of our first five games at home. Our first game is at Cleveland, and we want to play well. Our focus is on winning the game. That’s what we practice for and what we play for.
On the Eastern Conference…
Thomas: This is a tough conference. Every team is capable of beating any other team on any given night. There is really no doubt that the games that you play in conference and in division are extremely important because down the road, those games mean a lot. I thought last year, our team could beat anybody on any given night. I feel that strongly about that today, and everybody’s gotten better. I don’t see a supreme out there of yet, so on any given night, the way the East is right now, the team’s that can grind it out are the teams that will separate from the pack. But I don’t think there will be a big separation this year.
Do you think you have a defensive stopper on the team?
Thomas: I think we’ve got some very good defenders in terms of [Renaldo] Balkman, [Mardy] Collins and I thought [Stephon] Marbury’s defense last year was outstanding. It was probably one of the best of his career. The way he approached training camp this year, he’s carried it over. When you look at Zach [Randolph] and Eddy [Curry] I don’t know any nights where Eddy’s man has scored thirty points in a game, and I don’t see where Zach’s have either. So defensively, we should be a solid defensive team. We just have to take care of the basketball and not turn it over ourselves.
What’s at stake for this team?
Thomas: I think for us the biggest thing at stake is can we take that next step. We are progressing and rebuilding, and we want to take that next step forward. I think the big thing for us is a playoff berth. Can we take that next step? Can we improve and get there? Can we improve our play and our win total. Once we do that, continuously do that, then you start carving out some respect in the league with some of the things we are doing. We made some progress with what we were doing last year, and we have to continue making progress. If we slip, then clearly we haven’t kept aggressive, so that’s kind of what’s at stake. Carving your niche out in this league.
Is this a playoff team?
Thomas: Yes. I think if we are healthy, we will make the playoffs and I expect to make the playoffs.

Gilbert Arenas is Looney Tunes, and I love him for it. CHeck his latest here:
For the last couple weeks people have been calling me saying, “Are you coming back to L.A.?”
I’m like, “Yeah, I am … NOT.”
“Why would I be coming back to L.A.? Don’t you know the season is getting ready to start?”
And they’re like, “No, they’re talking about you and Kobe getting traded for each other.”
And I’m like, “Oh, that’s what’s up. Sounds nice … NOT.”
Nothing against getting traded, but that would be a dumb thing on the part of the team who is accepting me because, don’t they know I’m a free agent? What that means is, if you lose somebody who you really want and you come get me back and I leave too … TA-DAH! That means you have nothing.
So take my name out of it because whoever gets me, there ain’t a guarantee that I’m staying.
Reality check: you’re telling me that if attention-hungry Gilbert Arenas was traded from the Wizards to the most successful and famous franchise in the NBA, he’d be unhappy? He’d piss and moan at being shipped to the world headquarters of image making and endorsement incom? Not to mention his home town?

Here is a comment by someone named, “karma” on Berman’s NY Post Knicks Blog…
Stings, but there’s a good observation in there. As others have said before mebbe Zeke did really want to keep the kid, but was not allowed to
buy outthrow away his albatross.By Charles Follymacher on Oct 31, 2007 at 11:19 am
p.s. no, i don’t agree with karma’s last sentence (certainly not based on JJ vs DNice anyway)

Barf,
If u were Gil, would you be running to go play w/ surgically repaired Oden, carreer failure Kwame, project Bynum and over the hill Fischer. Agent 0 is smart to push to stay in DC if thats what he’s in for on the west coast.
Charles,
I think he was trying to say that Zeke may be handcuffed by Dolan at this point. I read his whole post and it seems he is alluding to IT not being able to complete what he started because he is not allowed to make more moves.
O & B,
Stern hates Dolan. Its plain and simple. He is not alone though. Almost all of the owners hate Dolan. He’s the court jester of the league. Everyone is having a good laugh except us.
Barkley is an idiot. He’s just there to stir shit up. He is Steven A. in a fat suit. You have to take what he says w/ a grain of salt.

Modi thanks for the feedback on the article. Seems like fellow defender “Syd” also picked up on the article @ post # 95 which I was not aware of due to the long opening post I was writing at that time. I have some questions for you but I will defer untill this evening to pose them to you.
Defenders it’s time for News from around the NBA
Can the Dallas Mavericks say “reunited and it feels so goo” as Juwan Howard rejoins his former club?
In addition there is a side story of an athletic 7 footer being let go by the Mavericks in order to make room for Hoaward’s return. The 7 footer D.J. Mbenga will likely clear waivers and head out overseas to play in Europe to develop his game.
Question does any Defender know anything about Mbenga. Could an Athletic 7 footer be of any assistance to the Knicks. Note, however, that Dallas tried to trade Mbenga prior to letting him go so assume Zeke was aware of his availability and decided not to bite.

The topic of contract extensions for both the BUlls and the Seventysixers heat up as both teams approach the 11:59 Wednesday deadline to resign their players respectively– Deng and Gordon with the Bulls and Iguodola’s with the Sixers.
I wonder if Gordon’s reluctance in the CHicago BUlls story above has something to do with his name being mentioned in the Kobe Bryant trade rumors?

The Miami Heat’s Big Aristotle contemplates the importance of unleashing his inner tiger in order to give the Heat an opportunity to start the season of strong. Could Shaq’s resurgence along with ALanzo Mourning’s goodbye tour be the NBA equivalent of the last march of the giant tree Ents as depicted in the J.R.R. Tolkien Classic the Lord of the Rings?
Meanwhile although Heat gaurd Dwayne Wade states that he could play for the Heat during the opening night game against the Detroirt Pistons, he elaborates on the importance of coming back at an unspecified timeframe that will allow the gaurd to be the impact player he was in past years.

“Stings, but there’s a good observation in there. As others have said before mebbe Zeke did really want to keep the kid, but was not allowed to buy out throw away his albatross.”
I’d agree more if D-Nich (a) wasn’t a rookie (b) could help our perimeter defense along with providing a solid shooter off the bench (c) were trying to find a spot on a roster that t already has 8 SG’s / SF’s.
So although it may sting, its not an observation based on the complete picture that is the Knicks’ roster.
Its funny how D-Nich has come to represent James Dolan putting a cinch on his money purse because of IT’s summer/job performance. The full story is that Isiah took a chance on Nichols, gave him a shot in preseason (as he did JJordan) and in the end it did not work out. While JDolan might have stopped IT from buying JJames out, Nichols would have hardly had a shot at serious playing time this year. As the roster is now, JJefries, QRich, FJones, Collins, Balkman and Chandler are more “game ready” and because of the depth will all see their minutes cut.
Nichols would have had to jump them all.
While the point is surely a point…there’s MO’BETTA reasons for why DNich is gone then “We didn’t buy out JJames because JDolan put a stop on IT”

Gil is the man in Washington. Why would you leave a spot that you helped rebuild to go to LA and be Kobe’s “following act”? Gils got Caron Butler, Jamison, Daniels, Haywood…some young bigs waiting in the wing, and a new rookie everyone is hopped up about. They are going to be solid in the East for years to come.
Kobe just wants to bail because he know even if the Lakers improve, they still have to be better than Houston, Utah, Phoenix, Dallas and the defending champs San An.
Kobe’s not seeing the championship in the West ever again. He wants to come to the East badly.

Its nice to see McDyess productive after so many injured years.
By BARF on Oct 31, 2007 at 12:18 pm
Sorry about the mix up I forgot to mention that it was Antonio McDyess who would be starting at power foward for the Pistons this season @ post # 111.
BARF
Could I read an implication that although Kobe resigned with LA to be the player to take the challenge of leading the Lakers to the Finals and onto a championship all by his lonesome is now renegging on his former boisting????? What an Fng punk err he shoved foot in ass or mouth wherever is best suited for such classic back peddling. I don’t want that turd on the Knicks.
Also seems lik the futures of both Gilber Arenas an Anoine Jamison might be intertwined as Jamison contemplates not resigning next year should Arenas not be with the Wizards and the team fail to make a showing in the playoffs this season.
Finally Udonis Haslem of the Miami Heat expects to take advantage of the increased playing time due to the injuries afflicting the teams frontline.
Ok now I’m really out, I need some methadone to cure my addiction.

JohnQ say:
LOL!
notes… Shaq is done. All his talk is just talk, perhaps to boost himself up a bit, but he’s just too old and injury-prone now to carry the team. And Zo may’ve sipped the last of his magic throwback elixer last season. McDyess for the Pistons has the devil’s attention this year.
…BARF…it’s not about starters, man. JJ ain’t startin none, either. he’s good for some fouls and little else. but let’s say JJ didn’t have some fat-ass contract, are you saying he still would’ve been a better prospect to groom over DNice? i like the Dolan clamp story better.

John Q,
For the record Steven A is a supporter of the Knicks—-so if anything Charles “I Got Oakley Slapped” Barkley is Chris Russo in a “fat suit”.
And both of them are in Anti’s doghouse.
BTW, do any Defender here remember when Charles Oakly slapped Barkley b/c he was talking smack behind Oakly’s back.

Funny Anti,
I was thinking the same thing. Steven A comes off like an idiot but at least he is a supporter of NYK. I guess he has some redeeming qualities.

ChuckFM, I’ll just say this…
The Knicks paid took on Jalen’s contract for an extra year along with the pick that ended being Renaldo. Jalen got paid $15 mil, plus the $15 mil luxury tax hit. In essence, $30 mil was paid to get another IT-picked young guy on the roster.
So taken as a precedent, the Knicks are willing to do fiscally retodded looking things to acquire talent.
But, at the present time, D-Nich wasn’t worth a JJames buy out. If Isiah’s got an “eye for talent”, what makes this any different? What player has he let go here, has gone on to do great things?
I can think of Matt Barnes, although he’s a role player on a 1 year (try em out) contract. Um…McDyess has emerged as a productive player but I doubt anyone would argue the trade
