Why couldn’t I have bought tickets to tonight’s Knicks-Celtics game instead of last week’s? Well, at least I got to see Allan Houston play in a Knick uni for the first time in two or three years. That’s something.
I’m not going to over-analyze what I saw tonight because most of you defenders were right there with me holding down this spot with the play-by-play.
Great stuff tonight from Nate, Zbo, D Lee, Stephon, and I liked Q’s defense tonight as well. These two teams played like they’re going to be fierce competition in the Eastern Conference this year. Jersey-pulling, smack-talking, face-grabbing, it could have been a WWE match out there except there was some fine basketball being played at times. I didn’t know Nate could thread the needle on some of those consecutive passes he made, I hope that continues.
No minutes tonight for Mardy Collins, Randolph Morris and barely any for Jared Jordan(10 seconds is generous, more like 8 seconds). Maybe next time they can show their skills with some minutes.
KG, well, he looks like a beast out there, as does Paul Pierce. Ray Allen was off tonight, but then again, Jamal couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn tonight, he still found ways to contribute.
Though 16 is an improvement from the last game (20+), I’d like to see the Knicks continue to work on reducing their turnovers, their regular season goal should be about 12, ideally.
Yes, JohnQ, the Knick perimeter defense is still porous, but you have to like their effort, and the confidence the knicks showed tonight in facing the team that beat them by 40 last week and finding a way to win this time around.
You can’t read too much into the pre-season games, but for those that saw this game, it was less of a pre-season game and more of an intense playoff-like game.
>>>
If you check the last blog entry, there is a link to a new Alan Hahn article that reports that Demetris Nichols has requested to be cut if he is not going to make the final roster. The kid has balls, what can I say? I guess he does not know the story of Trevor Ariza, and he’s going to find it out the hard way. Isiah has not cut him yet, nor has he cut Walker Russell, Isiah might not make another cut until after the pre-season games are over on Friday. Maybe we’ll do another poll soon. 10 out of the 50 that voted last time got it right when they picked Allan Houston to be next off the island. I was not in that bright 10 who chose correctly, maybe you were. They say the AH7 comeback could have been a publicity stunt to distract the fans from the ABS trial because it did not make any sense to come back to this particular over-loaded roster. Who knows? Winning is the best distraction for this team, for any team.

Last post cut off by mistake. Meant to say that his (Isiah’s)
players are still competing for spots and place in the rotation.
Hope to see more of E-City – Z-Bo combinatin as well as Chandler,
Jordan and D.Nice. LGK
Right, it wasn’t worded, “New York subsequently went 4-15, suffering several key injuries.” They know what they’re doing.
JSnaxx could be a great way out of the whole 15th-spot quandry.
yeah, and Marty Burns has been an ass in the past…
SUP DEFENDERS. GREAT NEWS, BALKMAN HAS BEEN CLEARED TO PRACTICE WEDNESDAY. THIS GIVES HIM TIME TO WORK HIS WAY BACK INTO THE ROTATION. HE MAY EVEN PLAY FRIDAY. HOLLA!!!!
Yo Bum,
You know people be askin’ to hook up da link, kid! Why you be so damn lazy all da time bruh! You be teasing bros with knowledge and then scram ’til next week Tuesday. You be worst than wimpy on Popeye da sailor.

Anti-,
What you just wittnessed there btwn Modi and ChuckFM and African is a breakdown of the MSM. Cosellout is a site dedicated to that all over the blog and media world. We Defenders do it here for the NYK–cause we is grown and know what’s good.

One more bit, a little bit further down the page in that same interview with Zeke…
Ominous, yes?
Steady, I don’t even have to surf the web on Knicks stuff any more. I come right here, someone posts the link (like the recent Lawrence and Mejia links) and I just run with it a little bit farther. I thank everybody here for making this site the one-stop shop for bullshit Knicks links!
I’ve been meaning to do a write-up on Knick Defenders, but will probably wait until after the season starts. I think that this site is a compelling story #1 because the commenters kick all ass, and #2 because the migration from Knix Fix is an instructive story of BLOG POWER! when properly harnessed. Keep doing what you do Starburyfan!!!
BTW, what’s up O&B! great point about Boozer in #82. This is a business. I will only add that the 2nd round pick loophole that Boozer and Arenas took advantage of no longer exists. Having stated that the business aspect of your point still stands.
Umm, DNice ain’t a guard.

watching league pass. dallas is blowing out chi by 22 points, about to change the channel on this snooze fest.
Modi,
With Zell about to acquire Tribune, he says that his main focus will be about cutomer service. Seems like that co. has a bad rep in terms of how it does biz. Explains also why that kid on da island puffed out da way he did. It was all about customer service. Meanwhile, apparently, he continues to spew by sending apologies through rap lyrics with double entendres. Ain’t read da shit, just bloggin’ here.
That would be cool if you PT’d Starburyfan (aka Blogzilla). Lives and the archives of both KF and KD here have all the posts chronicling what happened and how it played out. Columbia School of Journalism can pick it up and do a whole case study on it. When you have your Adjunctship, force the students to buy the copies @ Kinko’s

What would be cool–which we may do by mid-season is establish a profile for each character. There’s a core of about 40 guys here and we blowin’ up shit–egos, ideas, theories, veiled hypocrisy, nostalgia–nothing is left uncovwered. The Big BUT is that we are respectful, we are adult-like, and we are NY-like in how we deal. Don’t start none, won’t be none. We’ve got Defenders in the Eastern Caribbean, Saipan, Philippines, Canada, DC/MD/VA, GA, Blogzilla can drop some more abv. while still protecting privacy & junk. Ya’ll know what’s good.

Thanks for bringing the knowledge and clarifying the point about the 2nd round loophole rule. I might catch grief from some here but I’m on the fence about the whole Nichols debate here. I recognize the importance to Isiah to win now and that the best way to do so this year would be to transition his offensively minded team towards a defensive minset, and I understand that given the potential that another team might covet Isiah’s rookie he might want to keep his cards close to the deck and not show what his rookie Nichols has in terms of his shooting skills. I even understand that anyone whose good at what they do has to have a sense of self importance– ego or whatnot–and that Thomas wouldn’t be were he was as a player and be heading where he’s going as a GM– of a title contending team hopefully–without that lofty knowledge of his own ability to do what he sets out to do. Given all that, it’s Nichols right to be selfish, whether it’s to his benefit was the point of today’s debate, and his confidence in his game isn’t a bad thing to have given he supposedly wasn’t supposed to be drafted but performed well during the summer league and showed an upward trend in his overall game while at the Cuse. I just hope that if Nichols doesn’t make the roster, he is shipped out west somehow where if his potential flourishes it won’t be to much to our detriment.
Defenders,
Big Baby Davis and T Allen blew up 2nite in da loss to NJ. It was already reported here that the big 3 sat out DNP-CD.
Didn’t know that Mateen “Chops” Cleaves (that kid’s got all mouth and teeth) was trying to latch on to the Nets. Wasn’t he on that Spartan team with Z-Bo? Backcourt was Snow and Cleaves! I used to be out there but that was YEARS.
KFLL
In my sweetest fantasies, I’m a do-it-all guard in the mold of Magic Johnson. In real life, I am (or was) more like Bruce Bowen, a shut-down defender and rebounder with a streaky outside shot. I’ve always had a thing for silky smooth sharpshooters tho. That’s why I’ve always appreciated guys like Ray Allen (before he moved east) and ole Houston…and now DNice. I want to see him do well and I don’t blame him for lookin out for number one cuz nothin’s guaranteed for him at this point.
It’s clearly an ego thing what’s going on between Zeke and Nichols. I don’t know what to make of it, one minute I think Zeke’s gonna keep him (just refusing to give him any FredJones love), the next I think he’s trying to package him in a trade, the next I’m thinkin he’s just tryina put the screws to him. I don’t know what the hell’s going on. I keep tryina say he’s not a starter, and not, at this stage, necessarily part of your top-10 even, but he’s part of 15-man roster for sure. The answer will come out soon tho.
Those who wouldn’t mind Jason Kapono or Walter Hermann someplace on their roster, take one step forward. That’s the potential here. I can appreciate Zeke wanting to stash him away for a year, because it gives him the most flexibility re trade offers next off-season (goodbye Jeffries if you have a more seasoned Nichols to replace him?). The boy’s refusing, the brat. Wottayagonnado? We shall soon see.
Steady, I love it! Maybe I could help with the profiles in a later addition, but if you, Starbury or somebody else can send me the “evolution of comments” at modi@cosellout.com, that would be cool. If not, I pretty much have a handle on what happened.
O&B, I understand your points and ain’t mad at Nichols or any other player looking after their wn future, ESPECIALLY a 2nd round pick.
bumrush, encourging link with Garnett giving Zach some praise.
ChuckFM,
People give opinions and they’re entitled to do it as provided by Blogzilla.
Good to know–you need that b-ball knowledge when you step up in here.
What makes this place interesting is the cross-fertilization of knowledge. Ask, answered. Some guys come on and say NYK kicked butt and we’re gonna take the east. Others come on blog about line-up, the pick-n-pop or drop some inspirational words to keep the community on a positive vibe. This is the ultimate b-ball destination regardless of who you cheer for (I think) because we have some C’s lurk and blog and it all goes down smoovly.

Modi,
Starburyfan is your man.
Blogzilla,
You da BEAST on this matter in #170. Ain’t like me to be bossin’ or flawssin’ but could you hook up Modi with da intel requested? I had posted the chronology here and there @ KF one time. Lives had at least two “minis” on the subject. The final submit @ Trane on KF is a classic that sums it all up. Da ex baller on da island will be happy like a pig in $#!+ from the unsolicited promo & hits that will come after the expose.
Modi,
People (the original Defenders) should be encouraged to contribute to their profile as a Defender. You may not have solicited it but the moral compass/servant among the Defenders (Cooleyhigh) decreed you as the Resident Scholar/Scribe (I may have missed his terminology) for the Defenders. African is a Professor @ FIT (the F is not for Fashion–it’s for Fuckry). Some of us who were together at KK had and continue to hold Lives in that high esteem (so a joint effort by you two would be OFF DA CHIZZLE). At KK, Tman and Statesman held the moral compass and still do so here (for me). Peaceman has put out an APB for Ewing Curse, Kevin Harewood and General. We thought Anti- was kidnapped over the summer and held hostage in some idiot’s basement but then we later found out that his laptop broke down and he could not get to his local library to check in on the family then @ KK (but he found us nonetheless). Maybe some of these cloaked types are reincarnated here because Blogzilla is the original Starburyfan (also called Starburyfantastic by St_George in EC))and CloaknDagger is Orange & Blue. Me, I’m steady–everywhere; always was, always will be.
KFLL
Modi:
The story of the Defenders started at KNation, moved to Alan Hahn’s Knix Fix in search of some media fairness, but in the course of the “wacky” episode migrated en masse to Starburyfan’s outstanding knickdefense.com– taking no prisoners, seeking a means to “get over it” and thereby solidify a community of KFL kinfolk with a special culture and cache unique in the blogosphere.
The Defender story is still unfolding, like the Knick team, a work in
progress and hope for this turnaround season. I believe some of the
individual bloggers at this site would be willing to be interviewed either by e-mail or in person, if necesssary, to offer you some real biography behind the anonymous post names–perhaps another story or part of the same cyperspace epic. I am sure Starburfan can help. I know that many of us would link to your article or essay the instant
it is posted. Good wishes indeed in its creation. KFL
Prince,
You be da King of brevity. Excellent summary. Of course I should know–you’re a King of da F’n Hill.

Overheard ESPN’s Rick Bucher report that the Kobe trade scenario is still very real and is very likely the result of a tug of war in the orgnazation between Mitch Kupchack, who doesn’t want to go down as the GM who traded O’Neal and then Bryant, and Buss, who feels betrayed by Kobe’s summer trade demands and would prefer to get something in return before Kobe attempts to walk in 2 seasons.
The Heat lost yesterday to the Spurs to complete their first winless preseason in franchise history. Nonetheless, O’Neal vows to step up his game during the regular season and carry the Heat during the stretch of the season they will be without Dwayen Wade.
Also the NBA will be reviewing footage from the Knicks Celtics game on Monday to determine whether to hand out discipline as a result of the altercation that ensued after Jamal Crawford, fouled Ray Allen which resulted in Paul Pierce grabing Crawford by the neck.
Also is J.A. Adande staking his claim amongst the ranks of Knick hating “journalist.”
Lastly was there booing at MSG against Isiah during the Knick Celtic game on sunday? Frank Isola’s article seems to suggest so.
Check you guys out later!

O & B,
There qwas some booing but it wasn’t very loud. They announced the coach, the assistants and the trainers like one long run on sentence to avoid the boos if they were coming. It was faint at best but you can see some of the media want to make it out like it was raining boos.
JohnQ:
That’s what the media wants. If you read Assola’s article, there was no talk of the game. He rehashed all the negativity, and at the end, he mentioned the Knicks won the game as a side note.
I was suprised that the Hack from LI didn’t do a piece on the booing, since he was the main instigator before and after the Israeli team visit. He avoided that one. He wrote exclusively on the game.
I think he’s reading this blog, because I pointed that out very clearly after his two articles.
The village is watching!
John Q
I posted the article b/c I wasn’t able to watch the first through thrid quarters of the game so I wouldn’t have any clue if there was or wasn’t booing. I did get to see the last quarter and there was plenty of cheering which suggest to me that as long as the team is competitive and playing winning hustle basketball the MSM inspired boobirds will keep their lips tighter.
Steady and Prince, thanks for the direction…. got me thinking some more… originally, I hadn’t considered the Knicks Nation origins but if the complete migration is from KK to KF to KD then that is even a better story of a Knicks fans evolution and quest for a Knicks haven free from all sensationalism!
Nate’s elevated play will force IT into a quandary with respect to the rotation. Our starting lineup consists of 3 guards which must change. Marbury has to get 35 minutes mainly because of his huge contract (he still is an effective player, no doubt); Q is our best defender; Craw is our best and clutch scorer, and possesses the ability to create his own shot. Still, THE 3-GUARD LINEUPS HAVE TO GO. If we are going to win, our forwards (Balk, JJ, Chandler, Zach, Lee) have to get big minutes. Yet, Nate is putting pressure on IT. He is ready to really contribute in a big way.
We have a natural disdain for Hahn, but it seems like he is moving up quickly in the pecking order of Knicks beat writers. I listened to his interview on 1050 last night and it seems like the players are talking to him a lot. His articles have the most substance and depth. With your competition being Isola and Berman, I guess it only takes a little effort to become the main guy. Yet, his ego is enormous, and it will be interesting to see if he will continue to be brash as a customer service representative.
We all know the cure for the boobirds is winning. I bet there are alot less boos tonite after we beat the C’s.

Modi, if you like that story, then you can add the NYPost blog’s to the list. As I have mentioned before, this moniker B.A.R.F. originated there. In time, the moniker gave up trying to impart a sense of non-hater-hood to the freaks Bermy raises and coddles at the Post and has been down with the Knickdefender brotherhood ever since.
The man behind the cloak, BARF, is just looking for a good place to rest his head while consuming some Knicks news. In the process, he’s found quite a collection of minds. Gracias all you!!

Interesting how things play out, particularly when you stay focused on your own thing with positivity. The Slixer’s should be an interesting test of our defensive commitment and work ethic.Remember our win/lose letdowns. And remember who is a member of their brain trust.A win is not, necessary, but domination of their starters is.The Celts obviously could care less about the outcome of the Net game.Mind games don’t work on vets, like the Net Big three. So it was just a run.Not so vs. us.Philly will be trying to send us a message too.We need to Earp them. There is now a new sheriff in Dodge, that’s defensively. Then, whatever, whatever.Strange how life plays out.Modi, your idea of the evolution of a blog is interesting.Speak to Lives. He has lots of info documented. Also be prepared for the re-emergence of a very valued member of the Knick Knowledge community who was also at the KK Big Bang!LGK
Peaceman,
Nate is a minature beast and his passing is becoming uncanny. If he can get half the smarts Steve Nash has on the court I will be a happy man. He really left me impressed after that Celtic game. The little dude initated a 12-0 run with the help of some Jeffries Defense. And on him not getting hurt I think little people are more durable then bigger people. Have you ever knocked a bug across the room and it just go up and kept crawling. I’m not calling Nate a bug but he is involved in a lot of buggery.
In the spirit of our vacationing friend, DVJ, this LA writer proposes the benefits of a Kobe trade:
“If Jackson indeed likes to challenge himself, there has to be a part of him that would want to see Bryant go. Any trade involving Bryant would have to involve some decent talent, enough talent to allow a determined coach to begin the arduous task of molding a winner.
Jackson has all those championship rings, nine of them, but wouldn’t it be fascinating to watch him operate without the glitz of big stars on his team? It’s not as if gold-standard players tarnish a coach’s image. But they do make you ask questions about his ability.”
boomann,
What exactly do you mean by:
“If he can get half the smarts Steve Nash has on the court I will be a happy man.” If you want to know what I MEAN, go to http://www.cosellout.com and look at the Steve Nash MVP debate. Lives and Steady discussed this matter @ the other place before the exodus (and learning about Modi’s salient effort on this topic–thanks BARF). I’m not sure that you’re making a comment simmilar to the one Tman made during the game. Somehow, your presentation sound more like the familiar MSM bunk. What’s good?

Tman–the suspense is killing me coach.

BARF,
Most of the NBA and fans thinks The Zen one is a cherry picker. Could be all about his back but it is very telling how he hardly stands up during the game like most coaches do–barking instructions and being that presence on the psyche of the players. I used to always wish my coach would “SFD–sit the F#(k Down–during games but mine was a teacher and motivator. When you’re coaching veterans, you don’t need to stand up and coach as much. Just bloggin’.
