Early Atlantic Division Parity
Why couldn’t I have bought tickets to tonight’s Knicks-Celtics game instead of last week’s? Well, at least I got to see Allan Houston play in a Knick uni for the first time in two or three years. That’s something.
I’m not going to over-analyze what I saw tonight because most of you defenders were right there with me holding down this spot with the play-by-play.
Great stuff tonight from Nate, Zbo, D Lee, Stephon, and I liked Q’s defense tonight as well. These two teams played like they’re going to be fierce competition in the Eastern Conference this year. Jersey-pulling, smack-talking, face-grabbing, it could have been a WWE match out there except there was some fine basketball being played at times. I didn’t know Nate could thread the needle on some of those consecutive passes he made, I hope that continues.
No minutes tonight for Mardy Collins, Randolph Morris and barely any for Jared Jordan(10 seconds is generous, more like 8 seconds). Maybe next time they can show their skills with some minutes.
KG, well, he looks like a beast out there, as does Paul Pierce. Ray Allen was off tonight, but then again, Jamal couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn tonight, he still found ways to contribute.
Though 16 is an improvement from the last game (20+), I’d like to see the Knicks continue to work on reducing their turnovers, their regular season goal should be about 12, ideally.
Yes, JohnQ, the Knick perimeter defense is still porous, but you have to like their effort, and the confidence the knicks showed tonight in facing the team that beat them by 40 last week and finding a way to win this time around.
You can’t read too much into the pre-season games, but for those that saw this game, it was less of a pre-season game and more of an intense playoff-like game.
>>>
If you check the last blog entry, there is a link to a new Alan Hahn article that reports that Demetris Nichols has requested to be cut if he is not going to make the final roster. The kid has balls, what can I say? I guess he does not know the story of Trevor Ariza, and he’s going to find it out the hard way. Isiah has not cut him yet, nor has he cut Walker Russell, Isiah might not make another cut until after the pre-season games are over on Friday. Maybe we’ll do another poll soon. 10 out of the 50 that voted last time got it right when they picked Allan Houston to be next off the island. I was not in that bright 10 who chose correctly, maybe you were. They say the AH7 comeback could have been a publicity stunt to distract the fans from the ABS trial because it did not make any sense to come back to this particular over-loaded roster. Who knows? Winning is the best distraction for this team, for any team.

Since the DNice debate has been beaten like red headed step child tday, I’m gonna steer clear of that debate.
Did anyone notice the intro music last night ? What was that crap ? I now 2nd the notion that we bring back the DFresh’ Take me Home from last year.
Also I don’t see any comment on the “formidible” ads that call out Boston. Why would we go out of our way to provide them bulletin board material ? Who took ABS’s place as marketing head anyway ?
African, I am not retracting my statement. (oh yeahh, noww I remember what I wanted to say before. i better say it b4 i forget again)
Why would you say, “This ain’t Syracuse,” about a guy who sucked? That just doesn’t make any sense! If the guy was actually GOOD and you want to put him down, then that’s a fine thing to say. Do you understand? Scroll up and read what I actually wrote.
I am indeed offended by the press label, as much as I suspect you would be. It’s an insult, tho a mild one. That doesn’t mean I’m afraid to come back here tho. I’m just sayin, officially, them’s fightin words. And if you feel you need to go there over this, that’s an unfortunate thing cuz otherwise I think more of kindred spirit than enemies. I argue forcefully, when pushed, whether it’s over Alan Hahn (who’s a certified dick for posting that eff-you Beastie rap at the end of his non-apology) or the merits of DNice.
Now, if you’re arguing that criticizing Zeke in this way gives the msm extra fodder to vilify Zeke with, ok, fair enough, I didn’t really see that before and I’ll try to be mindful of that in the future.
(tho the site name here is KNICKS Defence, not ZEKE Defense, I can see how the two can be synonymous
)
CharlesFM
You know what, I crossed the line by calling you Alan. You’re right. I apologize.
B/C I figured “Charles” is a common enough name to warrant a surname (and I happen to like my full pseudonym). You can call me whatever’s easiest tho, I don’t care. “Folly,” “Charles,” “Chuck,” “FM,” “CF,” whatever, man. Just don’t call me “press.”
haha

I recall Starburyfan make a comment about the guy on the commercial specifically as to whether the guy on that formidable commercial was a real Knicks fan or some guy paid to do the promo. IMHO I think the reason your typical subarban couch potatoe looking white guy in the commercial was a way to sort of smooth over the whole overblown coverage of Isiah supposedly making a dissmisive remark against the teams white fan base. Also perhaps the fact that an intense rivalry might reemerge with both teams improved in the talent department provides the marketers an opening to focus on getting buts in seats when the Celtics come to town.
The Nichols debate has been so overblown. Kill me if you will but depending on the context I can understand the point Follymacher was trying to make. “This aint Syracuse,” could easily be interpreted to be a comment to tell the rookie to focus on his defense given Syracuse’s lack of emphasizing that aspect of the game in their program. THen again, if Follymacher is correct in his observations that Nichols made a concerted effort at D while in Syracuse, I wouldn’t Know don’t watch the college game, then it could be Thomas saying to Nichols, that the level of defense in the NBA that is required would be more than the effort he put out at Syracuse.
BARF, fair enough, much appreciated (man, that would’ve blown my top if I’d seen it before, my subconscious must’ve erased it from memory immediately after reading it
)
Bronxboy in Md,
Thanks for those quotes. That’s the attitude I like and love. That’s the attitude I play with when I ball. Q have the attitude like these guys haven’t won anything shiney stuff like me, what do we(Knicks)care about them. Just because the Media put these winning the “shiney stuff” already we like tru Knicks fans over here saying they(Media)should chill and take a look at our team. If not—they’re about to here about us real soon.
We all know the real deal with the team Isiah created from scratch and chicken feed. Making the playoffs this year, in my mind, is a foregone conclusion.
We all know, Defenders, if it wasn’t for the injuries to our key players last year—the the Knicks were playoffs bound. Nothing change. Just winning the Atlantic, is a thought that I and some other Defenders are here entertaining.
Duplicate comment detected; it looks as though you’ve already said that!
What?!
Show me what I posted StarburyFan—-if not—-Word Press is lying.
Folly
Your new man! Good for you not to back away from these Barking Alpha Dogs! lol
You held your ground head to head with the best!
Welcome!
Have a question why is Nichols at todays open house
along with the Teams other rookie Chandler? Does this suggest he might still have a shot at staying?
Let me know your take in it.
Looks like Cleveland will not have all their players when they play us opening night. Maybe a break for us.
ChuckFM passed the gauntlet. HAHA
And that’s how its done newbies.
Pull your skirts up, ya big whiney wussies!
It’s not “antagonistic bully”, it’s called being a “New Yorker, Top of the F’in Hill’er”
After having said all that, reading all the back and forth, I still think D-Nice is going to have a roster spot.
I just hope he’s not going to pout, bitch and moan while he keeps the benches warm and carries bags and fetches water for the rest of the team.
Pay your dues now cuz tomorrow you may be looked upon to contribute your piece of a champion-chip

Thanks, guys. I sometimes chafe living in Canada cuz you gotta be so frickin nice all the time and it’s hard to be straight up and direct with people without being slammed as an “alpha dog.” Real New Yorkers can both dish it and take it — all with the right amount of respect due. I’m definitely a New Yorker at heart.
Defenders,
What’s Up! We can beat our chests for a brief moment, because this may turn out to be one tough, thril by the minute, ride with out NYK’s, becuase the EASTERN COnference will not be easy. For the record, I am not coveting any other teams player, but did anyone see the numbers posted by Josh Smnith last night…Go Check it out. UNBELIEVEABLE!
Now I am aware they played the Wizards last night and there is no legit PF on the team unless Jamison is your hero; so just imagine what ZBO will do them and long with ECITY…I’m telling you there is no team in the east that has OUR TYPE OF DYNAMIC BIGS and IT is a TOTAL GENIUS…It will be fun to watch…
Keep it POPPIN
Cooleyhigh, when I got off my Artest soapbox to propose a trade for Josh Smith, I was not playing. The kid is amazing on defense and he can score in the paint OVER ANY ONE.
We had a hard time defending him last year and I doubt we’ll have any more luck against him this year. He’s a monster. 6’9″, jumps out the gym, LONG arms, plays angles, has handle…I wasn’t playing. I’d trade Balk for him…and if you know me, you know I love me some Balk.
Still, I’d consider trading him. That’s saying alot. And again, I’m still open to trading for Kwame Brown. Both JJ’s. Just to get rid of Big Snaxx’s f’in contract
@Cooleyhigh
If Zeke can get them to play to a high level and without injuries we should do very well.We Defenders believe! Most of the media doesn’t.I agree with you about the best 1-2 punch in Zach-EC. I just see this as a “Us aganist the world” year. I think our HEART is going to take us there.
O & B and SB,
I think the guy in the commercial is a real fan. He was told what to say of course. I don’t know who it was but someone pointed out on the fix this summer that they were having open tryouts for real fans to be part of the advertising this year.
ChuckFM,
And I’aint feelin’ yo lil’ jig at the name KnickDefense. We don’t DEFEND nobody here blindly. We defend our (wo)manhood as NYK fans, we defend our passions as fans, and we defend our ability to read, type and think for our damn selves w/o MSM spin, bunk, hyperbole or inciteful $#!+. In other words, we now realize that you’re Just bloggin’ so a retraction would be for a hack which you’re not. I do like the pics on your site though–where’s Joumana Kidd?
Peaceman is right. You just came from a spar, a tete-a-tete with one of the village chiefs who is responsible for circumcisions (no homo @ least not with me) here
BTW, BARF is the resident “namer” here and he controls the Baygon supply for roaches. Orange & Blue (though he might be renamed because abbreviating his name would make him a feminine hygiene napkin) backs him up with the Baygon but he has a diplomat’s touch. Lives is the resident scribe who would otherwise be typing this stuff for ya but he’s not available right now so he’ll chime in when he gets good & ready. I took the liberty to also rename Starburyfan as Blogzilla because his site has become the beast of all b-ball blogs that I know of. But when he’s watching the game with fans named after a bird or sippin’ on his favorite bev. while his blog blows up, then he can be Starburyfan. Only in that identity can he Just Bloggin’. Otherwise, Blogzilla is da King of the F’n hill.
And yes JSmith got real game, if Zeke could have pulled off that trade it would have been big.Don’t think the Hawks will trade him now.
“Confidence is great, but arrogance is a m’fkr.”
african
ill mess you up m’fkr
so dont you talk shit about me you beotch
Ok, what does MSM means?
Steady you wrote the word last…
I figure it the “Media” something.
metro sports media
ROTFLMAO @ #124!! *wipes eyes* Oh shit, that’s funny.
I have a funny feeling that catching Zeke’s bench splinters may wind up DNice’s main role this year.
Josh Smith is a BEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAASSST!! I am so scheming to get him on my fantasy team this year.
conventionally, it means “MainStream Media.”
man, i gotta do some work.
Yo DNich
Next time you step to Af you better come prepped with a set of diapers and a pacifier cuz you not fully cooked yet.
Get yo’ ass to the back of the line and your teammates some water or a snack rook. Well, in the case of JJames, you should get his ass some lipo.
Any one else interest in starting a knickdefense fantasy league somewhere?
I know DVJ and I are down.
Anyone else?
CF,
Way to hang in there DAWG! These Defenders don’t play and will call you out, then take you out, and have you posting under an alias… Your DNICE Value Proposition, is still a little weak, but I admire your commitment to what you believe and that makes you a TRUE DEFENDER…Don’t worry though, I think DNICE is a lock to make the team. IT played with another wild and zany character, his name was RODMAN, and he had to be taught as a rookie too, so this episode won’t freak him out, but he will not and can not let the 15th Man be a distraction, nor his agent…
Fellas I will out an about on Business travel. Headed to the Philly to catch up with the NFL folks, then on to the World Series to see some MLB folks, to talk bout a few things, and back on Monday. I doubt I will get a chance to post this evening, Spedning time with the Tribe before I head out. I may check in while I’m on the road, but that maybe difficult.
Folks to see and plenty pressing the flesh to do, so I’ll be entertaining…It’s starting to get old…LOL
Anyway, keep posting with fervor and passion, keep the Community safe and strong, and EACH ONE CONTINUE TO TEACH ONE, AND SHOW THE LOVE until I get back with you…I will leave you with these words especially for MY DEFENDER FAMILY…
Oh Last and CERTAINLY not least, BLOGZILLA YOU’RE THE BEST. Keep you head tight and your mind right, and don’t feel no pressure, cause this I YOUR HOUSE we’re just visitors with assigned rooms…LOL Proud of YOU STARBURYFAN! U R A Star!
Quote for today
God loves it when we help others. If we make others successful, he will make us successful.
God puts people in our lives on purpose so we can help them succeed and help them become all He created them to be. Most people will not reach their full potential without somebody else believing in them. That means you and I have an assignment. Everywhere we go we should be encouraging people, building them up, challenging them to reach for new heights. When people are around us, they should leave better off than they were previously. Rather than feeling discouraged or defeated, people should feel challenged and inspired after spending any time with you and me.
The Bible says that love is kind. One translation says, “Love looks for a way of being constructive.” In other words, love looks for ways to help improve somebody else’s life.
Take time to make a difference. Don’t just obsess about how you can make your own life better. Think about how you can make somebody else’s life better as well. Our attitude should be: Who can I encourage today? Who can I build up? How can I improve somebody else’s life?
You have something to offer that nobody else can give. Somebody needs your encouragement. Somebody needs to know that you believe in him, that you’re for him, that you think he has what it takes to succeed. If you look back over your own life, most likely you’ll find someone who played a pivotal role in helping you get to where you are today. Maybe your parents or a teacher had confidence in you and helped you believe in yourself. Perhaps it was a boss who placed you in a higher position even though you didn’t feel qualified at the time. Or a school counselor who said, “You’ve got what it takes. You can go to this college. You can be successful in that career.”
Maybe they saw something in you that you may not have seen in yourself, and they helped you get to that next level. Now, it’s your turn to do something similar for somebody else. Who are you believing in? Who are you cheering on? Who are you helping to become successful? Friend, there’s no greater investment in life than in being a people builder. Relationships are more important than our accomplishments. I believe that God is going to hold us responsible for the people He’s put in our lives. He’s counting on us to bring out the best in our spouse, in our children, and in our friends and our coworkers.
DEFENDERS a whole bunch of US are living examples of this WAY OF LIFE…I feel it in my HEART
Peace, Love, Longevity, and Prosperity is my daily prayer for each and every one of the DEFENDERS!
KEEP IT POPPIN!

“The Knicks seemed to play with extra motivation after being hammered by the Celtics, 101-61, last week. Ray Allen (12 points), Pierce (game-high 29) and Kevin Garnett (17 points, 10 rebounds) played together in the fourth quarter for the first time in the exhibition season, but they combined to go scoreless in the fourth on 0-of-6 shooting.
“I told one of the coaches I wanted to see that game [on tape],” Garnett said. “Both teams played hard.”"
Hot off the presses

Smith’s agents, Brian Dyke and Wallace Prather, met with Hawks management Monday to discuss a Smith contract extension but exited the meeting firm in their plans to simply play out the season and revisit the discussion.
“We’ve decided it’s best to play the year out and see what transpires next summer,” Dyke said. “There are several issues that come into play when you’re making a long-term decision like this. We have to weigh all those things before we do anything.”
Both sides have had months to come to an agreement. But with the league’s Oct. 31 deadline to complete contract extensions just days away, it appears there won’t be any agreement reached.
Cooleyhigh,
U are da man. I get basketball notes and quotes and spiritual life lessons all on one website. This defender page is a godsend.
@ Cooley,
You take care dude. We’re gonna hold it down till you return. Trust.
No doubt boomann. This is the COMMUNITY that we have here. It ain’t no love fest, it’s the world we want and how we roll.
Safe travels Cooleyhigh and you can believe we will keep it poppin as you always say. Before you go, thanks for that line:
“These Defenders don’t play and will call you out, then take you out, and have you posting under an alias”. I just got up from ROFDL.
BARF credit on that JSmith talk cause you said it first. But you know how I scroll–Thou shall not covet thy neighbor’s baby momma; thou shall not covet thy neighbor’s chick-on-da-side; thou shall not covet OTPs. Did you see how Yahoo Sports picked up on our commandments? Wez got major lurkers on this blog. Blogzilla is a King of da F’n Hill!
KFLL
Can ya’ll recall ever having caused some (im)posters to leave the blogsphere or re-appear under an alias? Boomann knows what’s good cause he knows if loses on that post, he’ll have to change his cloak. Wanna see that one.

For the real to real on MSM (Mainstream Media), check out Modi’s site Cosellout that is linked here. The term applies to the Media and the actors in it (the hacks, journalists, etc.)

Alright defenders, try not to pee in your pants from all the excitement. Knicks are looking good.
Steady,
Thanks and all those that replied.

Anyone seen Lives?
Anti-,
Looks like IT was being diplomatic in that interview and staying steady by not criticizing him through the media. He could be playing out a script where he keeps barking to the press and create a demand for him to other teams. No conspiracy, no connects, just bloggin’.
Af,
Lives may be stuck on the last thread–there’s 366 posts over there and almost 1fidy here. Blogzilla is da Beast Master.
KFLL
@Steady
Yeah, I read the article too, does seem like IT is running for political office.
Sounds like he doesn’t want to N8 his props.
Isiah is always diplomatic, but how much should we read into: “He’s a great shooter. I think he’s gonna have an excellent career in this LEAGUE”. Notice how he didn’t say KNICKS. Feel free to throw a flag on my for over-scutinizing, but thought it was worth noting…
I’m new, so I can’t say for sure, but it looked to me the Fake DNice comment was just funnin you a lil bit, African. C’mon, you gotta admit it was at least a lit bit funny.
And no, for the record (cuz I knows you be lookin at me with cocked eyebrow, African), I didn’t do it (and neither did o.j.)
What MODI said. That’s some primo bafflegab/doublespeak there.
I just read that mary Burns link about coaches on the hot seat. About isiah:
“Last year he survived a “win-or-else” ultimatum from management, securing a new deal from owner James Dolan after guiding the Knicks into playoff contention with a 29-34 start (New York went 4-15 following the extension announcement).”
Is it an unwritten code amongst sportswriters to omit the tiny detail that Lee, Jamaal, and Q all went down with injuries. Its a small thing, but it drives me crazy! It is just dishonest as these guys know the deal.
Barf:
Timely posted link. You are always on point. From the positive things Isiah said about D. Nice, it seems he will attempt to retain him on the roster or has a 2 for 1 trade in the works. At present, the only way D. Nice stays is if “Big Snax” undertakes surgery. Perhaps a few dozen or so pounds can be extracted or “liposucted” from his overall frame along with the repairs on his knee.
Maybe we should move on to the Philly game up next. Isiah feels that
the 76′ers have improved and could compete for a playoff spot, or that
he thinks Philly will be psyched up to revenge their preseason loss
to the Knicks in Charleston. Then again, Zeke could just be saying he wants no let down in tomorrow night’s game. LGK
his players
Modi:
Include Steph, Franchise and Balkman to that list.
Crazy. That type of info is for the casual fans. That’s clearly intended to form opinions.
