Going to the Fleet Center for Knicks-Celtics Game

October 17, 2007 – 4:03 am

tdbanknorthgarden.jpg

Okay, I know it is now called TD Banknorth Garden, but it was once called the Fleet Center, just like the TD Waterhouse arena down in Orlando was once called the Orlando O-rena. My age is showing. I won’t bother to focus on any stats because you will have access to all that stuff online, but I will take some notes of the game and report back what I see for you. It is a four hour drive from here, and it is a meaningless pre-season game, this is crazy. But I look at it this way: this will be the first time “the big three” play on their home floor, and the first time we see E-Zbo. Unfortunately no Balkman, but we’ll have almost everybody else, including AH7–his first game in years! This is a new era for the Atlantic Division. I will represent you defenders. I’ll be back after the game with an update, by then the AP synopsis will be out, but at least you’ll have another perspective, from one defender to another.

LGK!

  4. Yo Starburyfan,

Where will you be sitting at? I’ll be looking for you on TV. If it’s not blacked out that is.
Have fun tonight bro and make sure your voice is heard in Beantown.

  5. Starburyfan,
I’m glad your going to the game. At least we’ll know the truth with your
report, with no hidden agenda! This is a statement game. We should take no prisoners!
I predict this game will be one sided, with that side in favor of the younger, hungery KNICKS!
This game should be over by the 3rd quarter, so our newer Knicks should get some burn!
NO MERCY ON THE CELTICS! TONIGHT YOU WILL PREVIEW NOT ONLY THE CHRISTMAS GHOST OF THE PRESENT, BUT ALSO OF
THE FUTURE! THE REST OF THE NBA WILL HAVE TO ENDURE THIS DICKEN’S NIGHTMARE!

  6. Seems like I missed alot yesterday afternoon and onward. I want to congradulate all the people on this defenders website for sticking to their principles and helping produce change over at our former Knicks Fix site. To that end I believe it took the efforts of the village with special efforts by LNJLNY and Post up Prince amongst others. Kissy Kissy lovey do!

Anyhow I’ve heard alot of banter about Kobe that he cleaned up his lockerroom and that he has alrady or is nearly on his way out to Dallas. Well I decided to check out some links regarding the matter and it seems that currently Kobe’s locker is less than full, and that although the Laker’s Phil Jackson also said that Kobe isn’t going anywherer Jackson is reconsidering whether he’ll resign with the team. Although Jackson claims health is a concern for him due to his hip problems, Jackson also seems to suggest that how the team plays and shows on the court will have much to do with whether he stays– read between the lines and you’ll see that Jackson is concerned of not having a superstar to make him look good as a coach. Also despite his disclaimer that Kobe is going nowhere, Jackson conceded that one can’t tell at this time. Just check out the links below.

    BARF:

Don’t know if you pondered the thought of Kobe heading to Golden State? If you did I think the following article seems to discount that possibility.

    http://www.mercurynews.com/timkawakami

Lastly as it regards the Knicks, I wonder if the supposed ill will between Buss and Kobe may result in Buss oking a trade of Kobe to the Knicks as a way of “punishing” him? What Buss don’t know could definitely help us land Kobe, and we more than have enought talent to trade for him and be very competitive with Kobe.

  7. Starburyfan,
Awesome that you’re going to the game. Hit us up with some info on how Zach was defensively on KG. I’m very interested in seeing that match up. If Zach gets destroyed, we just may have to use Rose or James on him in the future. Yea, I know, James isn’t exactly Mutombo, but his defense would be an asset if he ever showed up to play.

I’m also curious to see AH7 back in action! I personally don’t think he will make the team, but I’m rooting for him! I hope he torches Ray Allan.

While defensively Boston is a very tough match up for us, we could put Marbury on Ray, Q on Pierce, and Zach on KG (Balkman during the regular season when he’s healthy). I think that’s the best we can do against them on that front.

    Can’t wait!

By DNM on Oct 17, 2007 at 8:52 am

  8. @DNM

That’s why we need the boy Ron Ron LOL…

Marbury on Allen, James on Garnett (until he gets his 6 fouls in 5 minutes) and Ron on Pierce.

Classic Phil Jackson quote of the day

“We lost out on the Kevin Garnett sweepstakes,” Lakers coach Phil Jackson said last month. “Red Auerbach came out of the grave and told Kevin (McHale) to give him to the Celtics.”

Is that classic shit or what?

By DaVonn J on Oct 17, 2007 at 8:57 am

  9. nice.

    safe travels sbfan.

    keep an eye out for:
    -mardy’s drives and penetrations.
-nate’s passes off drives and entry passes if any
    -stephon’s engine and intensity
    -jamal’s drive/dribble ratio
    -ecity on defense
-zbo man to man on kg
    -qrich:fresh or not fresh?

    game day baby!!! i’m excited.

    lives…
my condelences friend. you’ve been such a vital piece to this online community that its heart warming to see it giving such a sincere response. life is a true blessing and it was i’m impressed by your sharing the news of your loss here. thanks sir.

By barf from phone on Oct 17, 2007 at 8:59 am

  10. We could even put Q on Allen, James on Garnett and Ron on Pierce. That’s perfect !

If Curry had some defensive skills it would be a classic match up with Curry and Garnett.

Anybody notice what my word of the day is? Classic

Yes, I’m interested in seeing how Zach defends KG but I’m also interested in seeing how KG defends Zach.

Don’t forget, last year Zach torched his ass for 30 and better a few times.

Yo Peaceman, I was watching that Sac game last night and man….I was just dreaming of the possibilities of getting
Ron on this team. What made it crazy was the fact that he was shutting down Stackhouse for a while…then he just
took over the game offensively….incredible! He says he’s in the best shape of his life and I must say, he played to the
final minute last night. It was a good game and Howard might get suspended for that flagrant foul.

Don’t believe that Kobe slop. That trade wouldn’t even work as far as salary cap. I don’t even think the Mavs involved in
that “trade” make more than the 15% kicker that would be in Kobe’s salary LOL…..nice try guys.

If his locker is cleaned out….that means he’ll be on Park Ave this weekend looking at property.

You better believe his wife has a big say in where they go as well. Where do you think she wants to go?
I know she always wanted to be a model….I’m just saying.

By DaVonn J on Oct 17, 2007 at 9:03 am

  11. Fantasizing about OTPs

Kobe’s still in LA from what I read. Although Phil “Zen Master” Jackson keeps hinting that he might not stay around depending on his health– and the success of the team implying that if Kobe gets traded Jackson won’t have a superstar to make him look good so why bother trying to coach!

Also I was wondering if the bad blood in the relationship between Kobe and Dr. Buss, may result in Buss being more open to trade him to what Buss would percieve as a “bad” Knick’s team. Hey I wouldn’t mind benefitting from some bad perceptions if it helped land Kobe.

  13. Davonn
We all read the article where Ron Ron stated that the New York trade Rumors had
him hyped to get in the best shape of his life! I’m happy with what we’ve got, but
to get Artest in the next two week wouldn’t surprise me! Since Artest is suspended the
first 7 game of the regular season, I believe the Kings are showcaseing Artest to the Knicks for
more than what’s already on the table! I know we don’t need a first round draft pick for the next
two years! The Kings do! What else do you think it would take to bring Ron home this year! The
Kings know Ron won’t be their next year no matter what! Just bloggin!

By Peaceman on Oct 17, 2007 at 9:32 am

  14. Damn Orange and Blue,

    Early December?

    That’s like 15-20 games right?

I don’t know how people don’t see us in the playoffs this year.

Maybe once we smash these cornballs tonight we’ll get some respect.

I doubt it…especially it being a pre season game.

If Rivers starts to see the Celtics going down by a lot say in the third.

He’ll pull his starters so they can say they didn’t play the whole game.

I hope he knows that once we pull our starters…our 3rd unit might run the score up on his 2nd unit LOL…

  15. Peaceman,

Ron will opt out after this year so we are in the position of power with the Ron situation.

With that being said..Sac has their pick from Jeffries, Rose, James, Nichols and our next 2 first round picks.

If they don’t want any of those players….I’ll speak to them again after the season.

I wouldn’t even want him at the trading deadline because our current chemistry will be right going down the stretch.

Either Sac trades him to us now or they lose him for nothing.

There is no other team that wants him because they all know he wants to play for us.

Sac is fucked either way you look at it.

  16. fellas & sbfan:

here’s the deal with tonight’s game. the quote sums it up quite nicely:

“Tonight’s preseason game is just the beginning of what will certainly be a renewed rivalry between the Knicks and Celtics. Knicks guard Jamal Crawford said he recognizes this game’s significance, even if its result won’t show up in the standings.”

for as obvious a powerhouse as the celtics are now because of the big 3, i don’t understand the “team to beat” label. i know it adds drama to an otherwise boring conference, but they should earn that title by proving they can beat detroit, cleveland, miami and chicago before everyone heaps praise their way. tonight, new york get their first crack at them.

dvj, zach DID have great games against kg. Knicks see the celtics 4 times a year so we should be in for a mighty exciting season.

  20. Peaceman: I hope you are right. Boston will want to show off their new
trio (Pierce, Garnett & Allen) plus Posey (don’t forget him). Kicking Boston’s behind would send a strong message: Take Notice NBA and Knick fans: This Knick season is no longer business as usual.

A win or loss, however, is not a true indicator of either team at this
point. Both Knicks and Celtics are trying out their new mates; chemistry takes time, and both teams need to give their rookies and no-guarantee-contract players a chance to make the cut as well as showcase some “talent” for trade bait. For the Knicks, E-City is recovering from his shoulder injury, so must wear that cumbersome brace; and Balkman won’t be playing. Nevertheless, LGK.

We will know more once Starburyfan reports back.

  22. DVJ,

You make excellent points about Ron Ron. I think we are in a position of power on that trade and the Kings are trying to showcase him for more in a package. One way or the other, we have to do a sign and trade w/ the Kings anyway. Even next year, we won’t be able to sign him outright because of our salary cap situation. If the trade isn’t made now, it puts us in a position to lowball them next year but I still hope it goes down now.

I really don’t see us (or anyone else for that mater) getting the Mamba. How does a team swing that trade without decimating their own squad ?

By JohnQ on Oct 17, 2007 at 10:20 am

  23. Crawford said he is particularly excited about the Curry-Randolph combination and can’t wait to see how these players perform in Boston.

“Eddy and Zach look good,” Crawford said. ” Zach’s done a good job feeding Eddy down in the post, and they look good playing together.”

That’s from the same link shared above.

The big men can share on side of the court on offense. With Zach feeding Eddy in the post, it will free up the other 3 players on the floor get motion going. Jamal running around a screen set by Lee and Marbury floating by the top of the key for a wide open 3 or a quick pass in case Zach can’t find an opening.

Isiah’s going to have his work cut out for him.

I really enjoyed reading his perspective on how the rest of the team will have to pick up on the defense. ECity’s no Ewing. As a guard, you can’t expect ECity to be there to erase your mistakes. To keep whining for him to become a Ewing-esque defensive presence only adds more pressure, which in turn, leads to resentment. Get Eddy off the hook by surrounding him with defensive guys and watch how the big man will “get it” in time. Give him space to breathe and get comfortable and the man will realize there’s more he can do. And the big man is a hard worker. He showed that this summer by responding to the criticism…HE LOST 20 LBS

By BARF on Oct 17, 2007 at 10:24 am

  24. DVJ

Nets got their pivotal star injured, the heat has wade out until november perhaps as long as early december, Bosh from the Toronto Raptors is having problems with his Knee, same goes for Dalembert of the 76, while Boston has no depth meanwhile the Knick’s have added Z-Bo have the canon loaded to obtain Artest, have the best depth in the East, and Thomas after getting the teams offense in synch is now working on improving the team defensively, and the Knicks according some analyst are a speed bump in the Eastern Conference.

Seriously every analyst is a broken record that starts off their commentaries about the teams off the court troubles to validate their opinion of how the Knikcs will do on the court. It’s not like the Atlanta Falcon situation where the teams problems off the field cost the Falcons their pivotal and most important player, the ABS (ALLBULLSHIT) trial hasn’t cost the Knicks a player although some columnist would like the fiasco to cost the Knicks the head of Isiah, which would stall the Knicks development this year.

Gentlemen, congratulations, someone on L.I. blinked. That means you won this round. But really winning is just enjoying life, so you win each time you smile within yourself.Your site is full of Knick knowledge and interesting people. That’s winning 24/7.Don’t waste your energy on anger, save it for driving to the hole. That’s still where the magic is.Many Kudos to Starbury on a great venue, definitely, the next level with no agenda but Knick love and fellowship.Lives, you are proving to be a great mentor for many of the young men and women posting.Lessons 1&2 are very clearly illustrated in the F.I./A.H. scenarios.First,if you want respect, you must first give it.Second,in this country, the system, the market, will work, if you make it work for you. It’s really great to see so many familiar names with so many diverse opinions.Enjoy! And don’t feel bad about sometimes posting other places. It’s still a free country, despite George’s best attempts. Why? because, What is it that Dorothy said? “There’s no place like home!” Peace, brothers.LGK

PS.Just so you know that I’ve not completely lost my edge, or my mind.We need to, figuratively speaking, punch the Celtic Troika in their collective mouths to–night!Just to let them know what’s up comes the real deal.

  26. Coolyhigh,
Good to see your posts! You must know by now that Davonn and I are two of the crazyest
Brothers you will ever know when we see an Obvious upgrade for our beloved Knicks!
I stated I’m fine with what we have, but Davonn got me going with his descriptions
of Artest’s game last night against Dallas! Before you became family, I posted on Knicks Knation
that I met and spoke to Artest at John’s Pizza @ Bleeker and Houston last summer, 2 blocks away from W4TH.
He was very approachable and expressed to me that him coming home would happen some day, sooner the better!
That very same summer I was walking @ 51rst & Lex and I did a 180! There was my Favorite Basketball player of ALL TIME!
THE KING OF NEW YORK FOREVER! BERNARD! He was very humble as I shook his hand and told him he was the best Knick ever!
He smiled and said thanks Man! I said no Man, Thank you!

  27. Yo AF, you’re one mean SOB when you want to be. Evidently, its NOT all his house.

Lives, in response to your post, I probably won’t be returning until requested. When someone tells me they don’t want me around…I’m no stranger to rejection, I respect that wish.

What still irks me is, if you have a problem with the “bullies” in your “house”…why wouldn’t you say something before it turned into a problem?

It was tolerable until everyone left? Or was it that he preferred an empty blog (or in the case as it is now, a generic blog) to what was there during the offseason?

See, I can’t call it. The dude we thought we liked never existed…so what’s the point in posting there again?

I’m done with beating people down in my spare time. I’m done trying to beat sense into people whose opinions on the Knicks are shaped by the public opinion that is fueled by the MSM.

I look across the NYC blogs and realize they serve a purpose. They attract newbies. You can tell because the conversations they are having, we had all last year. If that’s what the blogs’ hosts want, then so be it.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that they are off limits. Cuz when the spirit or mood hits me, I will and do post.

    Missed you coach ;-)

    Peaceman,
Thanks for sharing. Da King should stop by the MSG and let us appreciate him from time to time. Anyone know what he’s up to these days. I don’t recall but if his number is not retired it should be. Oops, I forgot ’sumin’, our marketing guru just fleeced us with ABS so there’s noone on the clock.

Say General, what’s good with a banner raising nite for BK @ MSG. This Defender would defend that notion. The franchise needs some positive vibes this year. Even JohnQ can appreciate the need to recognize the horses that ran free and brung ya.

    Starfan,
You know what’s good. We need the intel on the injured/recuperating ballers. The clips on JC have him looking beastly. Who woulda thunk his wiry frame could take on so much Creatine muscle? Just bloggin’. Except his muscles/weight (to me) look like “extra helpings” as opposed to Jack Lalane.

  30. BARF,
I feel you in #22. When you think about it, if you compare his mailbags from the summer when he had “Real Fans” compared to today when he has juvie-nubies, the exchange and amount of typing by him changed. A cross-town Defender would have to substantiate this opinion. I’m just bloggin’, but I think we made this ‘hopper work his ass off–telling him what we want him to see, look for, report on, interviews, quotes. I could see him feeling “bullied”. We wuz sum demanding muthaflubbers. Ain’t defending for him, I’m just bloggin’. Sensing the maturity of the 70-sumin’ group (one his nubies calls us “intellectuals”), he figured disrespecting us would be the way to rid his site of us like he figured out slang would get rid of the HIV we left at KK.

As for me, I’m steady. I said I would post there after that word was removed and his company got its act together. They did and have an improved product so I did what I said I would do by posting there last night (around the same time of my last post). Now will I go back there like everything is honky-dore-kissy-kissy? I’m a NYer and a King of the F’n hill. I have bathed in the Condado Lagoon, the Indian, Atlantic, Pacific Oceans, the Caribbean Sea. My blood flowed in the Niger, Chari, Euphrates, and Lake Tanganiyka. I have choices and I am free. ;-)

if we were still here. We would only do it for 1 day on each blog. I prefer to do it right around the time we are playing that team. That way people across the East can see
    how powerful we are.

  32. Damn Steady and I’m the Bear? . . . .I wish.

TMAN has just raised it another level by walking in the door. Brother you have been missed and I was thinking about hitting the Knation soon just to chat up you and Kevin. Let me tell you that as I have been writing and thinking, I have been trying to hear your soul. It adds a nice balance when one is angry. It keeps one centered and real. Good to have you around dear friend.

I think I am about to spend some extra cash for some of these sports channels just to see this game. You’ve got me amped up.

BARF and Steady, I hear you and I have no suggestion. Being selfish, I know where you are and I will be there, so I won’t be calling you, I’ll be on the same couch, drinking the same libations. Plus, the content you guys provide is really product enhancement and it should be respected as such. Mr. Hahn got a little confused and started believing the hype as well as forgetting he was still writing/working in his professional capacity. Still, the flipside is that forgiveness is not a bad thing, if it is earned. It certainly will be hard to forget this unnecessary — but unifing episode — still we all make mistakes. (I am not saying that the mistake has been corrected or the person redeemed). But I guess, just like we all have different ways of protesting, perhaps we have different ways of forgiving. I have forgiven and walked away plenty of times. I bet we all have. I’m still trying to figure this one out though.

I think I’m out for the day. I need to figure out how I am going to watch this game. I need the visual intel.

    Peace.

2- Someone out of us is chosen to send the warning shot.
3- We all swarm in throughout the day or days leading up to a game.
4- GLOAT/APOLOGIZE the following day depending on the outcome.
5- Leave a link to this site at the end

I know it’ll be fun for us. I doubt it’ll be fun for blogs who do not have a sense for community though.

  43. Either KKKandi is in love with Thomas or he is Thomas. Thomas has made good and bad moves as GM. Zach,Lee, Balkman were great moves, but Jerome James and Jared Jefferies were bad moves and he was reponsible for hiring coaches who didn’t plan out. I’m willing to give Thomas lots of credit for getting Zach,Lee, Balkman, but he also got Jerome James and not only did he sign jared Jefferies, but he continued to start Jared even with more talented players Lee, Balkman on the bench. If people can only see the good that Thomas has done and ignore the fact that he’s done a bad coaching job then they’re just up Thomas butt. No wonder KKKandi can’t use his name in posts. He lacks the balls to do so. Maybe KKKandi/and or African and Thomas can live together in NJ now that they allow civil unions to gay couples there. The only way I can explain KKKandi constant support of Thomas is that KKKandi is in love with him,

Hubie Brown’s teams in the early and mid 1980’s had talent, but that talent was injured and he was fired. If KKKandi and African excuse Thomas’ coaching because of injuries then they should give Hubie Brown, David DeBusschere and Scott Layden passes also.Hubie Brown, David DeBusschere and Scott Layden’s Knicks had lots of injuries also.

AF- You know I could care less whether or not you’re PC. Its all to the good cuz everyone serves a purpose. AH really took it to where it didn’t need to go. Now he has bite-sized minions defending a spot that was never there’s to begin with.

Funny how he called us “bullies” but we were never in a position of power unless he enabled it. You have to possess power to exert it, no? The truth is that we felt a part of “The Fix” and the host did not feel a part of us. We got ahead of ourselves.

You tried to warn everyone. And what you warned us of, came to pass. In time, the truth always manifests itself.

Like I said, I will post there whenever the mood strikes me. I still read the information provided by all of our former hosts. AH is still the best out of three.

  50. JohnQ,
Where you be at? You who loves to jump in the ass of nostalgia. At least I’m not a revisionist. I mean “giminee X-mas”, Hubie Brown had a coaching job where he made major headways and then walked away due to the rigors of coaching the Generation Xers and dealing with the suits in Memphis. This guy here would have the NYK sign him back up? Sick-em’!

    Defenders,
While I’m at it, let me take some time to revisit what I’ve posted at several places. Here we are trying to develop E-Zbo as two monsters on the blocks–TOGETHER. Imagine you are coaching–run shirts vs. skins (Orange vs Blue). How do you develop Orange with its full compliment? Do you run the rookie Morris and Rose as comp on Blue? What NBA teams bring that level of challenge nightly? What do you make out of the story about JJ becoming fit for practice when both E and Z were practicing together? JJ at the very least gives you an honest scout look. The NBA does not permit a “practice” or “taxi” squad. You run with what you got.

So please Defenders, take time think! If IT keeps JJ, it will be for cause and not comfort. Don’t sweat the salary he’s making–it’s his coins and a sunk cost for bigs in NY. You develop your chemistry and future talent through PRACTICE; yes I said it, PRACTICE. Sure JJ is an expensive practice player but he’s on the team and when available gives the coach an OPTION as a TEAM PLAYER (OTP). That’s the only OTP that I can support.

By Orange and Blue on Oct 17, 2007 at 3:12 pm

  53. Yeah, I’m new to this bloggin’, so the name just came out of a hat. I’ll probably change it again.

Malik is making more than JJames ($7.1 to $5.5). I think in this new Eastern Conference, if we think Malik can play backup Center, we are kidding ourselves. The conference is much more competitive and talented. There are some backcourts showing 6′10″ at all 3 positions. I think Malik has to become “assistant coach.”

Jared is gone, and Nichols has to wait one year.

Chandler is making more than Lee. The salaries are a mess. Like we said, “not my problem.” When is the last time we had comparable talent across the roster? I’ve been watching since 1982 and I can’t remember ever having this much talent at all positions. Bigger stars, but not this deep.

What D-League team is affiliated with the NY Knicks?

This next paragraph (from this article) is a sneak peek at how the Celtics perceive their D-Leaguers!

Ainge met with officials from the team’s Development League affiliate, the Utah Flash, for more than two hours. Celtics coach Doc Rivers said all of his rookies (Gabe Pruitt, Glen Davis, Jackie Manuel, and Brandon Wallace) are Flash candidates. “Hopefully the players will understand that it’s not like a punishment to come and play for us,” Flash owner Brandt Anderson said. “We’ll make it as nice as we can. We’ll make it such that they’ll get the All-Star treatment as much as you can in the D-League.”

I also took a position on the perimeter with my 9mm, pickin’ off intruders and no-gooders BEFORE they entered the compound. Gotta keep it safe, yanno????

It’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it….lol

I feel whatcha sayin’ about the moniker…was thinking about that myself. I’m a pretty secure cat, so it doesn’t really concern me a whole helluva lot.

But perception is very important. However, would I feel very badly for ANYBODY who got that moniker twisted. Feel me?

Looking forward to tonites game. As someone mentioned previouly, this is a statement game. It’s as big as a preseason game gets. I think we’re going to expose alot of weakness in Boston’s so-called “hi-octane” attack.

I liken Boston to a 96′ Caddy with lots of miles…..beautiful when it’s running, but a valve gasket away from the junk yard. Lot’s of potential problems.

Starburyfan, what you did with this blog is just short of amazing. Enjoy the game, but do your recon and please report back. We know the intel will be good.

Just know that just because I’m silent doesn’t mean I’m not here. Hell, you guys beat me to the punch in most cases, and I’m not gonna regurgitate what was stated for the sake of posting. I’ll get in where I fit it.

By HarlemMD on Oct 17, 2007 at 3:41 pm

  62. Harlem- Thing is, Malik is boys with every one of core guys. He’s a real activist (not like us according to AH) and a mature vet. If you ask me, its worth it to pay Malik $8 mil. The man is an intelligent man, an intelligent player, a good role model, a good example, a respected businessman and as eloquent a man in the NBA. I’d like to keep that quality a person my squad. There’s no need to let him go if he’s happy here.

JJames on the other hand, is only valued at “Tad’s Steak” place on 34th Street around the corner from MSG. Come game day, he orders his usual “Side of Beef” in a barrel and carts it away to his Zen spot in the locker room where he eats in peace.

    Houston, JJames and Jordan.

Those are my three. Nichols makes the squad and keeps his skills tight playing for Tulsa (thanks for the info) and Chandler keeps that 12th bench spot warm.

I wish I could hug all you guys who think Alan Houston is making it on the squad. For as much as he was paid, I hope he gets a spot in the organization. But, not on the team. They should make it where Houston is the contact throughout the league and is the man who you contact to propose trades. Of course, I still think Isiah should get the final word as to who comes in and who goes out. Its Isiah’s job to lose at this point. He’s done a good job of amassing talent.

Now, its time to see (a) what he can do developing that talent (b) how he pares down the roster (c) what he can do from a position of power.

Remember, he’s been making trades from a vulnerable position. He’s had nothing to lose up to this point. He’s been the one GM with the worst roster and the highest payroll.

The hard part is keeping your reputation solid when you have a lot of talent and you’re payroll is stable.

By Bronxboy in Md on Oct 17, 2007 at 3:45 pm

  64. True, true. In the future, PG spot looks like it’s Nate to lose. 2s and 3s are the spots to really make some tough decisions and Houston just made it tougher. Plus, do you add Artest to that mix? Tough. I like Lee as the 3rd big man, with Morris challenging. Future looks good, but you’re right, this is IT’s defining moment with respect to choosing his primary rotation and core players.

    Balk/Chandler? Damn, that’s tough, but I think Chandler has a shooter’s touch.

Crawford/Q? If Crawford improves his defense, his spot. With Thomas preaching D, it may be Q.

Houston is causing problems, but you can’t let a established shooter like him get away. I don’t know how he does it.

By JohnQ on Oct 17, 2007 at 4:06 pm

  70. BARF,
    At #57, that’s Glen Grunwald’s job–an IT type/loyalist.
I have a “mini” about where I see AH7 fittin’ in if he falls short of making the team. Maybe he becomes shooting coach like Aguire is a fat point guard coach for big butt post moves. After I type my lines for JohnQ, I will submit my entry about who AH7 should replace in the MSG house. Some may not like it (Lives-esque suspense built here) ;-). Modi knows what’s good.

Just bloggin’ here but some folks give IT too much credit for being so astute at pickin’ talent. Sure, as the GM he has the final say but c’mon. He sure could have delivered some duds like that turncoat Tapscott did in passing over Artest. Still, D-Lee was found by a combination of Suhr and Donovan. The corporate thing to do is to give your boss credit and those guys were doing their jobs. Jeff Nix could not cut it and missed the boat on Balkman so he was waived bye-bye. Chandler was peeped out by Maguire and his Chi-town boys at DePaul. The only other eye for talent that rivals IT today is “The Logo”. West, like IT has a system that enables people to identify NBA-like talent that can be exploited over the course of practices and training camps. I say he keeps that job as a talent evaluator and a visionary for the NBA (Generation X to Generation Next). In that timeframe, I believe that he will establish the framework for a DYNASTY here in NYC. Just bloggin’ here.

  72. Defenders,

I have been reading the recent posts and as usual you fellas are insightful, candid, and EXTREMELY excited about tonight and the possibilities for this season. StarburyFan hopefully is traveling safely up to the Haughty Beantown with it’s Liberal Twists, but deep deep conservative under-pinnings…I clearly remember the 60’s and the busing scenario, PLUS my own personal saga, which is story for another day. Now they’ve brought in another Trifecta of Brothers to salvage the franchise and all of New England is hoisting the NBA Gold prematurely, hopefully those Brothers and their families can live in peace, because if you think I’m joking ask Russell, he’s got some real interesting stories for ya…

I also agree with Peaceman, that we should play this game to win and to assess, but I’ll repeart gents, this is just the beginning of Journey, but nevertheless, for US Fanatical Fans this is a biggie…LOL I can’t wait

IT is a smooth customer, and he will display somethings tonight, and may even try a little fake left and go right on my boy Doc, but primarily he will only lay down his cards when the games count. This game just ought to be a BLAST the first time around and I hope ALL of the players enjoy the experience this go round because later on it is ALL BLOOD, SWEAT, AND TEARS…for the GOLD baby…

Lastly, I have read many of your comments about the removal of the term Wacky, but like African (just not as vehement), Steady, (who was reading him on the regular too), StarburyFan (who actually got called out by AH, and let it slide), and SHAM (who jumperd on him early and swiftly like a HAWK), I am here, and I respect all that choose to engage and share insight, even educate elevate, or return to regulate, but my time is VALUABLE, and I rather Post in a community that cares about each other enough to challenge and advise and to chastize if necessary, because LOVE IS A MANY SPLNDID THING–GO KNICKS GO DEFENDERS…Lives, has tried to make the argument about forgiving and forgeting, and of course we all do that in our way. I’ve got no beef with AH, and I read his articles and the blog long long time before I ever posted (BX in MD advised me too and I followed his suggestion, because he spoke HIGHLY of all of YOU), and I will still read his articles to seek info, context, and like African to peep his game to comfirm my suspicions or to see if he is seeking redemption and accepting his INNER LIGHT, either way I CHOOSE not (Never say Never) to post there again because his words today in reference to ALL OF THIS rang hallow and shallow, laced with contempt for the POWER of right, and that is not a Godly response. Lives I don’t need to forgive him (it never bubbled to that degree in my INNER SANCTUARY) but I will continue to pray that one day he will return to Potter’s House as a lump of clay to be remolded in the LIGHT. It was never about anger, because that is one letter away from Danger. That’s why there could never be beef between me my MAIN MAN PEACEMAN, no kool-aid is running through OUR veins, but neither is that kind of malice, envy, jealousy, and poison that kills ones spirit and depth perception, like I see in some of the bloggers AH has not had the courage to reach out to and offer guidance, because they are speaking for him, just like AFRICAN (Warrior), LIVES (our Community Poet), Steady (the Ops Mgr), Modi (resident Scholar), Statesman (asked and answered), OUR ELITE COACHING STAFF ( Peaceman, Barf, Post-Up, Davon J, Orange & Blue, and the defensive specialist on the staff Harlem & BX in MD)and the rest of the DEFENDER CABINET (Booooman, St. George, Min Knick fan, TMan, John Q, DMN,) and last but not least our young and earthy Conductor StarburyFAN…A Young Man who had a Plan SPEAK FOR THE DEFENDERS

THE POWER IS THE OUR MESSAGE! ITS A MOVEMENT not A MONUMENT!

    My starting Pound tonight:

    PF: ZBO
    SF: JJFRIES
    C: ECITY
    SG: Jamal Jack Em Crawford
    PG: Steph Almighty

    Reserves: EVERYONE THAT HAS BREATH…

I don’t mind responding or disagreeing w/ you because I know I will at least get an intelligent response/arguement in return. I don’t know Dross but from what you’ve all said he’s not worth my carpal tunnel. He is just a hater and gets off when we butt heads w/ him.

Coaches from the old days (Hubie, Lenny Wilkins, et al.) have trouble w/ the Gen X ers. You are right on the money on that one. The game is not played the same way anymore so it can’t be coached the same way either. Those who don’t adapt to the “new” NBA find themselves out of a job like Van Gundy. You gotta roll w/ future or you’ll get rolled over by it.

  76. I’m with you John Q. There are a lot of coaches (LB, JVG) who just memorize a system and that’s that. No imagination.

Even though he was a mess with the Knicks, I’ve got to give ol’ Nellie some props for that.

But the most imporatant quality is that the players love you… and IT has got that. If he can get some big time D out of this team then they can be an elite squad.

By JohnQ on Oct 17, 2007 at 4:50 pm

  79. That was a classic press conference. Nellie’s a sly old fox. That upset of Dallas last year was a thing of beauty.

  80. To all defenders,
Lets deliver nice emails to MSG, telling them how much we
love the Knicks and hope they put next preseason’s away game
on! Hell, like the Temps sang ” Aint to proud to beg” for my Knicks!
There’s strength in numbers, …even if it is begging! lol

  82. Anti,

I swear on my Bible I had you in there, but I think during my edits, I accidently erased it. MY BAG HOMIE, I would never intentionally omit when of the ORIGINAL BBALLERS…LOL I got MAD respect for you and enjoy reading your posts. Please attribute it to my head and not my heart ANTI…

    Peaceman,

Are you kidding me! League Pass will not show the game tonight? Tell me yo are pulling my leg! Man, I got my blender set-up, the ice is crackling, my cork screw is shining, and my taste buds were ripe for POPPING BOTTLES BAD BOY SOUTH SYTLE…

Minn Knick Fan, that brothers JUMPER needed a lot work…LOL Yet, if used properly, he presnets a mismatch at the SF and should be posting brothers up and forcing the Double-Team and hit the open man. I said it before he can do that; and if you pair him ZBO when ECITY is not in the game he be the second post option. We don’t have guards that can post other than possibly Mardy due to his size, but he has not developed that aspect of his game, Maybe Steph but that is not his strength. Hopefully Chandler and DNICE can provide that option for us when they play the SG or while playing smaller 3’s or smaller line-ups. This is a game of attrition, and he who gets more shots, more FT attempts, grab more boards, and stares down the opponent on the defensive end usually wins the battle and eventually wins the WAR (NBA TROPHY GENTLEMEN)…

JOHNQ, in regards to the leaches and maggots that feed off the flesh of good and decent people do not deserve and nor have they earned your time and attention. You have been fair and consistent, you have posted both places, and conducted yourself with dignity and integrity. If you let them HOMIE they suck you dry and have you ravaging your spirit. My advice JOHNQ, cease and desist…

    Keep it POPPIN

By cooleyhigh on Oct 17, 2007 at 5:18 pm

  83. WOW! Cooleyhigh that was the deepest post I’ve read in a while. Had to read it twice for maximum appreciation! Deep, deep, deep!

BARF: Perhaps I am stubborn and old school on this point, but I keep james because you “can’t teach 7 feet”. Those 6 fouls in the playoffs against Shaq or Howard may be more valuable than Malik’s leadership.

Ed (sorry African - I can’t resist!), do you notice anything about your list? The moves that you give credit for were TRADES. In other words, when Isiah received MORE back than what he gave up. Your two criticisms of JJ and JJ were free agents, with the operative words being FREE! The Knicks gave NOTHING up besides a roster spot. In fact the majority of teams DON’T EVEN USE THEIR MID-LEVEL EXCEPTION. If one is going to make a serious argument about Isiah’s mistakes, it should really include something about an exchange of a LOSS in talent (i.e. Ainge giving up Telfair for Brandon Roy or Bird giving up Harrington/SJAX for Troy murphy and Mike Dunleavy; Mchale giving a 1st rounder for Marco Jaric) Let’s put an end to free agent discussions since half the GMs in the league have signed a bust. The only differnce is that the salary cap is meaningless to the Knicks…

  85. Fixers

I was inspired by Lives eloquent prose to write my own response and leave it at that at the Fix. Although the response sounded as conciliatory and diplomatic as any from a Nevil Chamberlain, the tone had more of the good old Winston Churchill in it as I kill with Kindness but offer up an olive branch to all listeners to see the web as an oyster of information for whatever suits ones fancy and that most important of all no site has a patent on what hot on the NY Knicks. My point reconcile with the caveat that I encourage those at the fix to look elsewhere for information and transform a good beatwriter into a virtual god who crumbles under the pressure of the pedestal and handles some success with the grace that David Duke handles a two dollar hooker.

I have a question. I recall Peacman writing the stories ending before it occurred, how the wacky would be blown up as a result of the fortitude of cybercitizens who stuck to their collective principles. I was wondering who better to note this little episode but our virtual Tacitus aka MODI. I wonder if he will do a write up of the name change on the Fix. Of course it’s just a thought and I’m just bloggin.

    Unrelenting prose with lyrical mastery
aint holding back coming true with the history
strenght in numbers through diverse voices woven tight like master tapestries
when put to the test with disrespect from those with motives that are highly suspect
Aint kneeling down or rolling over like the herd
Aint puttin up with lowball and lowclass from the wacky and absurd
stomping cyber roaches and checking the herd
socring a virtual and one as we forge on to victory!

Defenders ready to blowup on the White and green?

Christmas! I hope some more of you guys will email them at the address I posted.
I guess it’s gonna be Audio pass tonight or Espn’s Gamecast! FUCKEN CELTIC FANS

  99. 30 minutes until we see how lucky these leperchauns really are. I’m betting that they are very unlucky when it comes to playing these Knick boyz who are out to shock the world. Some people deny the taste off kool-aid but i’m an avid kool aid consumer. I drink it in da mornin, I drink it in da midday and I drink it late at night. That is some good stuff right there. I expect nothing less then a 10-12 point blowout anything else would be uncivilized. Let’s go NY.

By African on Oct 17, 2007 at 7:23 pm

  102. Of the twenty players currently on the Knick preseason roster (including AH7) five are to be designated for elimination, leaving 15 to comprise the roster for the regular season. Among the five
candidates I believe Isiah will consider cutting are the following:

    (1) Walker Russell Jr.: good athlete, potential to play either the point or shooting guard; needs time to mature and work on overall game. Likely slated for Europe or the Development League (a topic I want to
    talk about another time ).

    (2) Alan Houston: still has a shot to be reckoned with, but unless he shows in the five preseason games remaining that he can defend, rebound, drive the hoop, and sustain his energy/health, I believe AH7 is slated for the Knick front office. There he brings a “clean and pure” image, articulate, with good interpersonal skills, a cosmetic facelift in the context or wake of the ABS trial/scandal. In that case, AH7 will likely spare Isiah the act of having to cut him, and take himself out of contention.

    (3) Malik Rose: great intangible asset for team. Can l play power forward or center (in spots) where he “pulls the chair,” almost as well as Rick Mahorn in his prime, and can score some on hustle plays or get fouled. In my view he would be best utilized as an Assistant Coach, where his court savvy and respect among teammates, and locker room maturity is worth keeping. Randolph Morris said that he learned more in five days from Malik than he did all of his prior basketball experience. If that makes for too many bench coaches, somone can be directed to coach the Knick team in the Development League.

    (4) Jared Jordan: excellent handle and ball distribution. Would be worth having in reserve in case, Marbury or Collins or N8 gets hurt. Right now he is the 4th point guard (remember that Crawford can also fill in a the point). Jordan lacks height and has only average speed and jumping ability. He would best mature in Europe or in the Develoment League. I doubt he will be there on November 1st.

    (5) Jerome James: many of us want “Big Snax” gone. Isiah would surely move him for “future considerations” (i.e. a 2nd round draft choice in 2010–Knicks have no 1st round that year), if anyone wants to absorb the balance of his $30 million dollar contract—approximately $20 million. Isiah will showcase him in one or more of the remaining preseason games. If there are no bidders, I believe that he will be kept to clog up the middle and provide fouls against Shaq or Bynum or other lumbering big center type, for however many minutes he or Isiah can endure.

    (6) Jarred Jeffries: Isiah will also offer him around the league as part of a trade package. His big contract—approximately $25 million remaining—-may be an obstacle, but can possibly work out in a deal
where salaries (and salary cap factors) must be comparable. Nevetheless, I believe Jeffries will make the cut. He can play defense, block shots, and retrieve offensive rebounds: all 3 skills must improve this year if he is to fulfill his worth as a role player.

    (7) Demetrius Nichols: at 6ft-8 he offers considerable potential. Good to excellent range on a deadly jump shot. Has good running and jumping skills; length and wing-span could make him a solid defender. Showed well in Vegas summer league, where he got out quick on the fast break, and blocked several shots. He reportedly played well against AH7 in camp practice. Needs work on handle, defense and overall court awareness. He would be able to develop more rapidly, if he could be convinced to play a season in Europe and enable Knicks to retain draft rights.

    (8) Randolph Morris: came late last year and appeared in only five games. Has decent but not dominant (6’11) size. May be able to bulk up in the future. Scored and rebounded in solid and steady fashion in Las Vegas Summer League. At present he is more of big forward type than a center; he came last year to fill void left by inured David Lee. He is
a candidate to be cut if Thomas decides to keep D. Nice and cannot move Big Snax. Could also benefit by a year in Europe or Development League.

Thus, in my view the five most likely to go are:
Walker Russell, AH7 (to front office), M. Rose (to bench coach), J. Jordan to Europe, and either R. Morris or D. Nice to a place(s) yet to be determined. Any reactions?

I believe Isiah will wait until all of the preseason games are played before making his final decision. I do not envy his job in this matter, but look forward to watching the competition. LGK
