E City back in two weeks

The New York Times’ Howard Beck reports that Curry has been re-examined by team doctors who say Curry will be out a maximum of two weeks. Curry will probably make the season opener against the Wolves. Though you’d ideally like Randolph and Curry to acquaint themselves during the preseason, at least Eddy will start working with Zach when the games that matter begin in November.

No word on Jerome James’ status as of yet.

Yeah, I just checked it out. Steady as she blows. Just stayin’ “easy like a Sunday morning.” Don’t get too high on ‘em, don’t get to low, just know that your position and your principles are solid and steady.

guys, sorry for the cluelessness but I’ve been doing a lot of work lately for my REAL job that actually pays a salary. that is my way of saying that I’m a little out of the loop on the Hahn boycott. Can someone provide a brief synopsis as I am unclear what “whacky” is?

PS: what are the chances Isiah swings a trade to clear up roster space

Defenders,

Modi I knew we would hear from you soon. Kindred spirits Defenders! You are welcome here, but I’ll let StarburyFan do the official WELCOME, because he has earned it…(blog is cool)

Heady Steady,

I like your mind my good man and your good heart. One so insightful is one that thinks their way through, as the ole folks say, “Still waters Run Deep.” Great Post on AH and the AH7. Your line of thinking is straight to the heart of the matter. It has been brewing for quite some time and makes IT”S job tough, an unenviable position, in the coprorate world and football they call it piling on. Let’s hope a wiser spirit resolves this amicably for everybody and no one is injured (These are Brothers), I got Faith…

AH7 is a Knick Icon, and he is respected and loyal, cause he could have been catty and took swipes at IT and Stood on his soap box, but he will come in quietly, former Piston, knows the history, so let’s hope wherever he lands he does without dishonor, and if is the Front Office, there really isn’t anything really bad about that, because the story changes and so does the image of the Franchise immediately. This could actually be a good chip if it falls that way. Time will tell, or as our Defender Steady says, “just keeping it STEADY.”

I guess someone will give us an synopsis of this evening’s game????? I’m hoping…

Accentuate the Positive!

Keep it POPPIN

Modi, at this point I would say “whacky” is part joke and part principle. I guarantee it will join the coined phrase pantheon of Knicks bloggers along with “Steady As It Goes,” “Top of the heap,” “Shiny Stuff,” and “Starbury Snapple.”

Yesterday, AH’s tech guys began reconstructive sugery on the blog to add additional features including advertising adn a blog roll. As the changes were being made, the FIXERS were very vocal about the changes and made numerous suggestions, some of which were addressed immediately by the tech guys. Those changes were mostly cosmetic and had to do with font size, style, color of the blog and the sexiness of AH’s new picture.

One change however was a little bit more substantive and did not sit well with several FIXERS: Newsday added a subtitle to the Knix Fix heading which identified the site as the place to discuss and hear news about the “whacky” world of the Knicks. Fixers were pretty strident and polite in expressing that they wanted the “whacky” removed. The displeased FIXERS attempted to explain that the “whacky” was a reflection of the media’s coverage of the Knicks than the FIXERS fanaticism towards their favorite team. What was not understood was that the reason the posters moved to Knick Fix was to avoid the pedestrian and perpetually biased dissing of the Knick by the media. The FIXERS, myself included, felt that given our contribution to the enhancement of the Knick FIx Community our welcome mat should be more reflective of who were are than what the media believed of the Knicks. We asked for “whacky,” to be removed.

For some reason Alan decided to respond by telling the FIXERS that the IT guys were tired of our requests and told us to “Get Over It.”

Several of us felt that was an unacceptable response and that Alan needed to do a better job of advocating for the change which some of us thought was within the authority of Newsday editors. IN response, a few of us decided that respect for our contribution to the blog was essential to our continued participation — therefore we would not write on the blog until the “whacky” welcome mat was removed.

Apparently Alan has indicated that the FIXER should not get bent out of shape about “whacky” or the “IT” diss and that the IT guys would eventually address the “whacky” issue.

On one hand, it is serious to the extent that we expect and demand that we and our contributions are accorded respect which does not result in dismissive responses from employees who are not the blog host or newspaper management. The FIXER response was not personal against AH, for the most part, except that he was very willing to give us a “take it or leave it” message which he attributed to his IT guys. That was simpy unacceptable and you know us Knick bloggers are always ready to take a challenge.

On the other hand it is just plain funny as everything else that we KNATION BUILDERS/FIXERS/DEFENDERS do as a community. We are unique and have no problem flexing muscle when challenged. It is a reflection of our team and our fanatical love for the Knicks and what has been created by IT.

Sure, to some this episode may seem to be a silly spat over a single word, but it is about respect and fairness in promoting the image of the basketball team. We believe this is to be a winner on the court and we want to reflect that in our passion, discussions and the venue where we ply our efforts. That’s not all that “whacky,” is it?

O&B and Trane,

I hope you read this.

That discussion on “wacky” and the various responses was perfect from both sides. O&B was so on it that I was so tempted to break my silence, but I intend to keep my word and not post until the “wacky” is off the welcome mat. O&B tells exactly what it is all about. It’s about far more than a word. It is always about far more than a single word, even when the word is “bitch.”

And I believe Trane has it right too. There is nothing wrong with a decision to stay, fight, discuss and express displeasure. We need those people too. Statesman brought up this very issue when the posters left Knicks Knation, then after a year of complaining about the abhorrent content. Leaving was a personal choice, but staying to fight was a tougher one, I think because most of us are in this to “enjoy” our fellowship, not to spend all our time “fighting to enjoy” our fanatic fellowship.

Just like the Knicks need an inside and outside game to win a Championship. We too need that to achieve the sports blogging community and environment that will allow us to enjoy each other and represent our team as the Ultimate Fans.

Gentle folks, it has taken us a long time to appreciate how complmentary and diverse tactics and responses get us to our ultimate objectives. O&B made it plain. Trane put it straight. It will all be good as we come closer together in this Championship run and let it be known that we are serious and fanatical about the quality of the media New Yorkers deserve. I just get goosebumps thinking about it.

I look forward to tonight’s game.

I posted a comment on Alan Hahn;s blog stressing that a “community of
feeling” matters. Hopefully, the “Whacky” title In the “Fix” blog be fixed soon. I am neverthelsss pleased to have been directed to the
Defenders site where we can hang out for moral support.

As for Houston, unless a trade is in the works, I would rather keep
D.Nice for his upside potential. Hell No H20.

Thanks guys. I’m in the loop now. I was having trouble finding the word “whacky”. Anyway, O & B posted also gave me the rundown, and I’ll reprint my return comment here:

“A very well written response and I do agree with the stance. Now, relative to the daily rags known as “Post” and “News”, the “wacky” sub-heading is rather tame (as are the movies SAW I, II, and III!). So while the cause falls a tad short of the Montgomery Bus boycott, we are still quite right to nip it in the bud. There is simply no question about it that it is pandering. “The fixers” are the customer base which seemed to make our feelings known. And like you, I am a fan of Alan who IMO is a close- second best NY Knicks beat writer after Howard Beck. But I was a little troubled by Alan’s response:

“Threatening to boycott me like I’m Sal’s Famous Pizza? That’s on you. This blog will be here. It’s my house, all are welcome to come and go as they please. Let the content be your reason, not some inane word in a subhead…”

As someone who has spent a lifetime in teaching youth employment and customer service training, I think Alan really took the wrong approach here and, to some degree, helped make the decision to boycott a lot easier. I would guess that if the word “wacky” was simply “inane”, then there would be absolutely no problem in removing it. Nes pas?…But like you said, it is not personal to Alan. But, at the same time, Alan is also an employee who may very well have it in his power to remove the word with some in-house pressure. If he DOESN’T have that power, i didn’t get the sense from his response that he cared about finding out. And I see nothing wrong with the Fixers providing that accountability. Not only do I find nothing wrong with it, I fully embrace it. In fact, that is EXACTLY what “COSELLOUT” stands for.

Again, nothing personal to Alan, strictly business (the same reason why “wacky” was added in the first place). As customers, we demand a journalistically non-sensationalistic standard and “the Knix Fix” seems to have been that “safe place”. And loyalty comes at the cost of maintaining integrity as you have already nicely pointed out. If and when “wacky” is removed then a discussion about a possible return can take place… until then… “No Roger! No Rerun! No Rent!…”

Lives,
I love you for that post. Thank you. And thank you for introducing me to bloggin’.

MODI,
I was reading fast through your weave to ge to these words in your post:
“And I see nothing wrong with the Fixers providing that accountability. Not only do I find nothing wrong with it, I fully embrace it. In fact, that is EXACTLY what “COSELLOUT” stands for.”
That’s why I post with you and DEFEND here. I don’t want to take credit for leading or pulling folks away. I took a position the way I did when I left those inane and juvenile types at KK. I’m a grown-ass human and have choices. I will go back and post there. Otherwise, I can refrain from this element of my fanaticism.

Star,
Are we still having issues with the time-stamp post? You’re King of the F’n Hill. What you did is what leaders do! Steady as it goes.

Modi and Prince. Write On. Very eloquent and powerful guys.

I am out most of the day. I look forward to catching up tonight.

Have a great and blessed day.

10 Steady October 11, 2007 at 11:29 am

It all began with this at the other place:

Posted by Shamgod | October 8, 2007 22:05 Go courtside with news and commentary on the wacky world of the New York Knicks.

Wacky world of the NY Knicks? C’mon what kind of ad is that? Sounds like they are making a joke of the Team

Anyone has the boxscore of tonight’s game?

And then this followed:
Posted by starburyfan | October 8, 2007 22:11 Shamgod

agreed. i was offended when i read it, but it is alan’s blog ultimately, so if that is how he sees it…

Followed subsequently by this:

Posted by BARF | October 8, 2007 22:27 Thats effing usless

I’m not idiot

And then ultimately this:

Posted by Steady | October 8, 2007 22:36 I’M BAAACK–Working on a major post. Will hold off until Newsday shows some respect to the Fix community here and change that “wacky world of New York Knicks” banner and get its overall act together. You all know what’s good–take a stand here KFLers.

KFL

To which others chimed in like this:

Posted by Orange and Blue | October 8, 2007 22:39 Steady

Do you mean a temporary boycott of the fix untill a headline more respectful of the Knicks Team is put up?

And this:

Posted by Orange and Blue | October 8, 2007 22:44 “The Wacky World of the NY Knicks”

As if the Team– never mind the organization– were a bunch of hysterical insane clown possy. Regular Comedians that anyone and everyone can poke fun at and disrespect. While maybe there is some cause for that depiction of Dolan and his careless antics overseeing the organization. The players shouldn’t be treated as clowns or jugglers fresh of a Penn and Teller re-run for mere bread and circus style entertainment. Don’t throw our troops to the lions of sports hyperbole and reaction they deserve respect and by the post I’ve read this summer many have worked hard on their games and on their chemistry to take another step.

Do the players on the team some justice and Change the Name!

ALAN

Show them and us the hard core fans some respect b/c we are the ones who have helped to build your Fame!

In the legal sense, this is the time line of what happened. But I still love Lives’ literary version most.
