Cavs and Knicks could do a two-for-one?
August 27, 2007 – 2:17 amBut who would you want from the Cavs?
Well, during his tenure as Knicks head coach, Larry Brown did want veteran point guard Eric Snow, who I’m sure the Cavs would like to get rid of if they could replace him with a more youthful point guard. I’d guess with the emergence of Daniel Gibson during the playoffs last season that the Cavs would have limited interest in taking a player such as Fred Jones back in a package with Dan Dickau. Nevertheless, such a deal would work in terms of matching salaries.
With Jamal Crawford, Stephon Marbury, Nate Robinson and Mardy Collins, the Knicks have a very inexperienced–yet talented–backcourt in term of playoff wins. Snow has been to the finals twice, is a good distributor and defensive player, and he could add veteran playoff know-how to the Knicks bench in the backcourt. He has two years left on his deal for about 20 million. Expensive, yes, but this is New York we’re talking about. The East keeps getting stronger each week, and if Isiah wants to actually make the playoffs this year, he’d better start addressing his team’s weaknesses instead of adding more redundancy, as has been a trend in New York, with pairs such as Jared Jeffries and Renaldo Balkman, Steve Francis and Stephon Marbury, and Eddy Curry and Jerome James.
The Knicks as they’re currently built have enough firepower in terms of offense, with at least six players capable of scoring over 20 points if given the looks at the basket. What they need to improve upon is to limit their turnovers and learn to play better defense.
